    kimchi dumplings #delicious
    Bernice N.

I made a visit to G.I. with my girls, and some friends this weekend. Not only for our yearly trip that we do, but they had Pumpkin Point on the island that day. That is where they bring pumpkins and set them up like your in a pumpkin patch and you get to pick your very own, or two. Of course the kids got hungry, and we found that they no longer had a row of food trucks, more like food huts now. A lil disappointed, but happy to have found Lil Eva's. Now I knew that I was gonna pay a pretty penny because we didnt have time to pack a lunch like we normally do, and to my surprise I found that the prices were not outrageous. Chicken nachos- 5stars+ The chicken was so juicy, tasted like slow cooked BBQ chicken, with cheese and guac. mmm, mmm, mmm, only thing missing was the spice. I didnt miss it though, I mean they were that good. BBQ sandwich- 4stars Chicken taste the same as the nachos, just in a sandwich, missing all the cheese, and good stuff. Kimchi Dumplings-5stars They were hot, spicy, just delicious! Peach sangria- 3stars It was refreshing They have a seating area where you can sit down anywhere you like, and after you pay they give you a number and bring you your food to your table. If not, you go to the side of the shack and pick up your food from a lil side window. I hated the seating area due to a sworn of bees all over the place. How can you eat or drink when you are being attack by bees. I think they should find a way to have a net all around like a fence to keep them out. Anyway I would return again for those nachos and dumplings if they still are around next year.

    Shrimp bun with avocado

The food is overpriced and not very good, the line is always long and the top 40 they blast in the seating area is pretty terrible. The mac n cheese is actually OK, it's a classic mac with no goodies and standard cheddar, but it's melted nicely. It does need salt and pepper which they do provide in packets at the side of the shack. The shrimp bun is hilarious. It's literally a hot dog bun smeared with mashed avocado with three shrimp added in. It's pathetic. I never thought shrimp and avocado could be so disappointing but, there ya go. Service is weird. On a weekday the woman bringing out the food to the tables seemed weirdly intense and also mentally checked out. She looked at my table (alone, at a four seater) like it was puzzle, not sure where to place my tiny items, so I made a ridiculous amount of room for her so she couldn't possibly make a mistake and like, throw them across the island. I wish they would bring the food trucks back!

It's cute and it served its purpose. The adult Apple Cider - while pricey was absolutely delicious. I had the Mac n Cheese nothing to write home about. My friends had the bratwurst and couldn't stop raving about it - I missed out. It's a cute shop that moves fast and the aromas will definitely lure you in. Come prepared because I found them pricey.

    Little Eva's Dogs & Slaw

Today we spent the afternoon on governors island. As we got to the area with the lunch tables etc we noticed a place called Little Eva's. Little Eva's was a really cool looking little spot with tables and umbrellas, so we decided to grab a quick bite there. We ordered Eva Dogs, with slaw. The ladies working at Little Eva's were super nice and really helpful. We noticed there were a few other things on the menu but there were 3 of us and we weren't looking for a MEAL. The hot dogs took about 20 minutes and were just plain old hot dogs with some shredded cabbage and carrots on top(slaw). We were certainly disappointed in the hot dogs, but I imagine we made an error in ordering something so easily found elsewhere. Overall; I wouldn't order the Eva's Dog again....but I'd give Little Eva's a shot again just based on the great customer service.

This is their idea of a hot dog??? Never again.

Currently at the hour mark waiting for my food. I don't care how good the food it is at this rate.

They're definitely open today. Not sure of hours but the island's open until til 6

Ordered shrimp bun with mango and guacamole, mahi taco over greens, and a mango frozen daiquiri. Pizza Yard has me setting my standards too high. Be forewarned-the mango used for the blended drink and bun is canned, and therefore the texture and taste were...questionable but was refreshing in the daiquiri nonetheless. There was NO alcohol whatsoever in my daiquiri which, for $13, is both a ripoff and a waste of money. The mahi taco was ok if a bit wet, and the shrimp bun was on a hotdog bun and not the Bao bun I was expecting; however, the fault is mine for assuming. The shrimp is pre cooked cocktail shrimp, and the guacamole lacking in both salt and lime. The salad was crunchy, with fresh greens, peppers, cucumber, a sprinkling of quinoa and a nice dressing. If here on a weekday, for drinks stick to the taco bar near the Manhattan ferry entrance if the line and time will allow. Otherwise not a bad eats option.

Lobster roll on a potato roll: surprisingly good!
    Jessica O.

I'd give Little Eva's 3 1/2 stars. My husband and I had the lobster roll sandwich ($15), the mahi taco ($15), and the watermelon salad. There wasn't enough mahi in the fish taco, but the lobster roll and watermelon salad were surprisingly good. The only "beer garden" on Governor's Island, Little Eva's is smaller than pictures reflect. On a Saturday afternoon it was packed so we could only find a bench (in their fenced in area) to eat our lunch at.

The seafood boils are served with potatoes, corn, and garlic bread. You have a choice of the twist special sauce (spice level is adjustable) or garlic butter; both are delicious. I've never had a bad meal here and would highly recommend this place if you enjoy seafood. I've also tried their baked oyster appetizer which is phenomenal. Service: Staff are friendly and very attentive. Service was excellent. Ambiance: The restaurant is not big, but they have a good number of tables. Both small and large groups can be accommodated. Surrounded by grimy warehouses, mechanic shops and other industrial endeavors, Twist seafood is a fantastic restaurant that I believe everyone who lives in 40 block radius should be frequenting. Although initially I came here for the happy hour oysters, I'm so glad that I stayed for more. I situated myself at the bar and asked for a dozen oysters. These oysters were fresh but a bit on the smaller side. I do wish more thought and finesse went in to the oysters like a nicer sauce selection. They should definitely take notes from the oysters happy hour at Siren. Perhaps it was my enthusiasm slurping them away that made the kind lady shucking them ask me if I would like a dozen more? Hell yeah is the only appropriate response to such thoughtful questions. I washed down the oysters with a crisp glass of Allagash and in that moment decided why not order an entree too? I'm so happy I went with the New Zealand mussels prepared in their house special spicy butter sauce because Oh. My. God.... First of all, I have never seen a mussel this meat and gooey and fat and delicious. A literal shell fish lover's dream??? The sauce was decadent and spicy and aromatic and all the things a seafood boil sauce should be. The potatoes were steamed perfectly. The corn? Delicious and sweet and my only wish was that there was more of it. The garlic bread soaked up all the juices beautifully. Honestly even though I went in here searching for oysters I believe the real star of the show is obviously the seafood boil entrees... and also very reasonably priced. As I write about this my mouth is watering and I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on these mussels again. Please go here, you will not regret it!!

Our server was courteous and attentive and my Narraganset Beer hit all the right notes to accompany my Lobster Roll. Ice cold and light. We chose the Conneticut style Lobster roll which was a warm style poached in butter (no mayo). In total, the menu offered four Lobster Roll styles. I splurged by selecting fries to accompany my Roll because who wants a salad when it's a holiday? There were two prices per each roll. For Conneticut, it was either $41 or $51 with the latter including a more pile high serving of lobster: however, we were informed the smallish bun will remain the same. The best Lobster Roll I ever had still holds its title from North Fork, Long Island at one of the vineyards. RHLB Roll was very good. Tucked in the quiet end of Red Hook right by the water, is Brooklyn Crab - a lively, coastal shanty themed restaurant serving up some seafood favorites... but on a cold day in early February the abandoned and frozen tiki bar downstairs and the residue of snow salt on the staircase leading to the restaurant only served as a faint reminder of brighter, sunny days that await us this summer in New York. I plopped myself on the bar seating as cold gushes of air swept in with the opening door. The heating was struggling but so were we - it really was just that cold. However dire these conditions were, I was here for my weekly ritual - two dozen oysters on the half shell. Trish the bartender was a great sport. We chit chatted about the weather and her California upbringing and everything in between. She was great company and a delight to talk to. When the oyster platter arrived I was met with instant joy. Nicely sized oysters, neatly shucked, briny and beautiful with the accompaniments I like. A cold glass of beer I had been slowly working on in the background. They only have the $1 Sunday oyster happy hour during the winter months. Staff simply can't keep up with the shucking when it's busier. I deeply enjoyed this meal as the sun shined in the glass enclosure and it started to warm up. Far away I could see the waves crashing on the dock, as I guzzled down the ocean's perfect food. I also ordered the peel and eat shrimp and they were very good. Nicely seasoned, with ample amount of lemon wedges to make this meal truly one of a kind. This is one of the best oyster happy hours in Brooklyn, and even though I am traveling away from home right now, I can't wait to return and bask in this sunlit bar one last time this winter. Highly recommended!!
