Need a Galentine's date night or day idea? We had the opportunity to celebrate at the Little Pine pop-up bar at the Little Pam Bar. The cabins are poolside, and there's even blankets when it gets chilly. The drinks all have fun names, and the snacks were delicious with their little twists. The popcorn had a chili lime flavor to it and the olives had fennel and lime i think. So good. Our waitress was very accommodating as well. We sat in the backyard area. Came here for some light bites and drinks. The chocolate fondue spread was great, I didn't think the chocolate was warmed enough though. I booked a reservation here a few months back with a group for 5. We booked in advance and the day of it was gruelingly hot and humid so I called Little Palm over and over, over the course of 4 hours and at no point did they answer the phone. I headed over to the place approximately 2 hours in advance of what our reservation was to see if we could change it and when I got there I was met with a hostess and eventually a manager who although their voice was level, was quite nasty and condescending. I asked them about the phone and if it was working and if they were taking calls and they said yes. As I stood there I held my phone down and called here as I stood in the lobby and they ignored it completely after telling me the complete opposite. They were incredibly rude while I asked about shifting the reservation up and spoke in a belittling tone. I could understand if the place was bustling but they were mostly empty and it was still early in their day. After their inappropriate responses, I asked to forego coming here altogether as they have some of the worst customer service I have ever been met with. They threatened to charge me $125 cancelation fee which I refused to pay for. That's absolutely absurd. Save yourself trouble and go elsewhere. read more

This pool bar is located inside of the Ryder Hotel on Meeting Street. Everything in the bar is decorated in very bright colors, and it had vintage vibes with the bar stools, lamps, and palm tree wallpaper. You will pay for how beautiful the bar is, but that's to be expected in Charleston. I got the nitro cold brew martini and it was $17, but it was delicious. I came in with a group of 5, one of us is celiac. We let our server know upon sitting down about the allergy, and she (I can't remember her name) told us off the bat that their fryers are contaminated, which is fine, and then that the only gluten free option was the salads. My friend asked for just plain grilled chicken, which was listed several places on the menu, and she tells us she will check if it can be served hot instead of cold. She never came back to let us know before ringing it back. I was expecting a manager to come over and check on the allergy and explain options for us as is standard with something as serious as celiac, but nothing. No concern at all. We were given pretty much ice cold chicken with some parsley on it. At this point we couldn't find our server, another runner comes out and we ask for hot chicken again. At this point we're concerned if the food is actually going to be gluten free and not cross contaminated. The server comes back to FINALLY give us other options of what my friend can eat- which should have happened immediately upon learning about the allergy. At this point everyone else has eaten, over 30 minutes has passed, and our friend is still hungry. We finally get the singular piece of hot grilled chicken and by this point, my friend was embarrassed as our server made it seem like an inconvenience or a request that was too hard to understand. There was no apology for the wait, or the mix up, and after all this the chicken was miraculously still on our tab. The server was dismissive while closing us out- still no apology or acknowledgement of how rocky the whole interaction was. I've worked in F&B for years- customers regularly have allergies and there is ALWAYS an accommodation that can be made in the name of superb service. This girl did not care, and neither did management, or the kitchen. Really the only reason that I can come up with why they were having such a hard time, and hesitant to even give us something that should have already been completely gluten free, is that their kitchen does not practice proper cross-contamination procedures in the first place. There is absolutely no reason why someone with a legitimate life threatening allergy has to ask THREE TIMES to be accommodated over something as simple as a piece of chicken- especially at a restaurant as "established" as this one. read more

Little Palm, located at the Ryder Hotel is a unique spot. This second floor poolside bar is located on Meeting Street, on the second floor of the hotel. There is some light people watching from just above Meeting Street, a unique bar/pool setup and an inclusive culture and vibe. The drinks are a bit on the pricer side, but you really are paying for the ambiance of the bar. The pool is small, but there is a feel of escapism and relaxation that has a style all its own. Cocktails and ambiance are amazing, we stayed at the hotel and the food was great as well....BUT the bartenders were not friendly except maybe one. I don't know the name of the nice one but he reminded me of the kid from "the girls next door". All other bartenders made us feel like we were inconvenient. The guy with the cheetah print hair definitely hated his job and made it known and there was another guy with him that did not make us feel welcome, looked like a manager maybe. We travel a lot and love going to different bars and chatting with the bartenders but these guys were rude and acted like we were inconvenient. If you go there don't sit at the bar, the other people starting at the hotel are nicer to talk to. read more

We all shared some appetizers, including the salted potatoes, pan con tomate, and guac. Overall the food was just fine, but the ambience is really nice. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and had to send back. It tasted old and texture was soft and smushy. I ordered the fish po boy. The server told me it was red snapper. But I disagree. We love Little Palm! It is beautiful inside and on both patios. The drinks are wonderful craft cocktails, the food is always unique and delicious and the service is friendly. This time we tried the spicy tuna appetizer and the crab empanadas, both were amazing. The crab empanadas were surprisingly filling and seemed to have a lot of meat in them. We realized too late that they offer two punch bowls to share on the menu that looked great, we'll definitely try them next time. I went to little palm maybe a year and half ago now and believe we only got drinks then, but had the opportunity of going with a bigger group and we had a lot of fun trying lots of their menu items this time! We did like sharing style and just order a bunch of stuff and shared it! I got the garden of Eden drink, which I'm not usually a tequila girl but definitely made me re think that hahaha! It was refreshing and sweet just how I like it. Other people got the green light with a floater of tequila which was good but stronger than mine. We got the indigo popcorn: 8.6/10 I loved it could use a tad more chili seasoning Street corn Doritos: 7/10 I waited too long to eat this and the chip thing was a tad flimsy so I used a fork but loved the corn so I would get again and just eat first. The chip is airy so it gets a little soggy Smashed avacado: 9/10 was one of my fav things Salt potatoes: 10/10 the green sauce!!!! Not a big fan of the yucca fries, the texture got me. The shrimp alajillo: 6/10 didnt wow me but maybe if I dip in the green sauce from the salt potato's Cheese burger: 8/10 I don't usually like burgers but that was delicious very flavorful! Chicken and rice: I heard good things, didn't get a chance to try tho was gone before I reached hahah!! Overall little palm was phenomenal, so cute! Disappointing experience - the hotel ambiance was beautiful, but the staff made it very unwelcoming . Booked a pool cabana for a few hours in the morning and immediately upon checking in with the hostess told us to "vacate the pool exactly at 10am" (those exact words) with a very demeaning attitude and a judgmental look. From the moment we handed our keys to valet, it was a chaotic experience. Wish we had a better time for what we paid. The food was alright, but in my opinion extremely overpriced. It ended up being $97 for two main dishes and an appetizer. Read about this newish bar operated by the Death & Co team and had to check it out during a recent trip to Charleston. It's located inside one of those trendy microhotels. Easily made a weekday reservation via Tock, and was able to get a table poolside. For those curious, they have a small pool (like, NYC small) and every lounge chair/cabana was taken even at 5 pm on a Sunday by twenty-somethings. They do reserve some tables for the bar. Since my boyfriend and I were on our way to dinner elsewhere, we just had one round of drinks and a snack. Over/under cocktail was great, and I loved the Wavy baby cocktail. Grilled watermelon was also excellent. It's a little scene-y, but overall a great spot. 4.5 stars. read more
