This place has great little snacks and bar food to accompany the brewery in the same building! Went to Ojai for the day for Valentine's Day and stopped in for a quick lunch bite and beers. We love Sama Sama in Santa Barbara so we've been excited to try out Little Sama when we were next in Ojai! Finally made it out and it did not disappoint! The setting is super fun, in the same building as Topa topa. It is definitely more casual than the SB Sama Sama. You find an open table and go up to the counter to order any food or to the topa topa bar to order drinks. We got 4 dishes-- the seasoned tater tots, Brussels sprouts, karaage chicken, and sama donburi rice bowl. The seasoned tater tots were incredible. The perfect crunch and seasoned to perfection, they were hands down our favorite thing. Plus for those with dietary restrictions, these are gluten free!! The Brussels sprouts were similar to the ones at Sama Sama in sb and were delightful. Love the mix of flavors and textures with the dates + almonds in them. Gluten free. The karaage chicken was slightly underwhelming, good but not the same level of amazing as the other items. Not gluten free. The rice bowl was delicious! We didn't order any additional protein on it but you can get several meat options. The egg is marinated in a soy sauce but it is gluten free soy sauce. The sriracha aioli definitely has a kick to it but was really good. Gluten free depending on what/if you add additional protein. I was there on Friday. I ordered the Little Sama Chicken Salad (purple & green cabbage mix, fresh mixed herbs, farmers seasonal fruit, sweet chili & onion vinaigrette topped with crispy wonton strips) and a Mexican Coke. The Coke was warm and I had to ask for a cup and ice. The guy at the counter had zero personality and it seemed like I was putting him out. The salad portion was small and came WITHOUT the sweet chili & onion vinaigrette, so it was VERY DRY. When I went to the counter to request the sweet chili & onion vinaigrette, the guy and the counter did not know it was supposed to be on the salad and offered me something else. I had to again request the sweet chili & onion vinaigrette. The cook gave it to me on the side, but it seemed like it was given grudgingly and no apology was offered. Sitting at the outdoor dining area of the Topa Topa Brewing Company, we realized we can order food from Little Sama, which is technically a separate establishment, but is kind of 'inside' the brewing company and has a partnership with them. You can also go to an outdoor window and sit on the side street if you only want Little Sama. We were happy to have both! Little Sama is Asian fusion. Coming from LA, it's hard to impress us with Asian food. We have the best Thai food (outside of Thailand), best Korean food (outside of South Korea), and among the best Chinese food (presumably outside of China, too!). We enjoyed the Chicken Larb, made with Mary's chicken (though very few places do Northern style Larb Kua, which is what we really like). The wings were good (Mary's chicken with a sweet and spicy tamarind glaze), the seasoned tots (with togarashi and furikake) were good. They were sadly underwhelming -- definitely needed more okonomi sauce and mayo to justify costing twice as much as the regular tots. The tempura mushroom was so tasty but awkward to share since the mushrooms were fried as whole clusters and not broken apart. The donburi rice bowl with tofu katsu was flavorful. OMB!! Oh my Buddha, for those not in the know. This little gem of a place is inside Topa Topa. I happened upon the reviews when searching for some good dinner fare while the hubby and I were in Ojai for a few days. I am so glad we decided to order a few different items, because they were all amazingly delicious! We started off with the Krupuk. I know of them as shrimp chips, but whatever name, it is a nice crunchy starter. And the sambal it came with was a super nice spicy touch. Then came the brussel sprouts and crack wings. If you like little chunks of crispy garlic with your food, the brussel sprouts should be your go to. And the wings were finger lickin' and meat sucked right off the bone wonderfulness! As if that wasn't enough, we each got an entree as well. The hubby got the wagyu burger and I got the donburi rice bowl with pork belly, all with a side of pickles. The burger and pork belly were nicely cooked and oh so fatty. They both went really well with all the pickled sides. If you get a chance, don't pass up a chance to get something from here.
