Parking was near Target and then you walk into the mall area and go right. The restaurant is very pretty. Our waiter was brand new and still learning the menu but he tried very hard to make good recommendations. Portions are massive here! We had the shrimp appetizer, which was good. The ladies also had a shrimp and pork spring roll they liked. I had the garlic noodles, which were very tasty. The other ladies had pho, a Vietnamese pancake with pork and another pork and beef dish. I guess positive comments first; The food was very good and super tasty. As Chardonnay drinkers, the selection was quite bad. One Chardonnay in Southern California and it tasted dreadful. Our server Eric had the personality of Lurch from the Adam's family. Could he smile a little and be somewhat friendly? Observing the servers in the restaurant, they tucked water bottles under their arm pits and placed other serving items against their chests. Then proceeded to serve quests or set tables with these items. To bus tables they brought dirty bus pans into the dinning room and set them on clean tables ( I guess) next to the ones they were clearing, never to wipe those tables after having the dirty bus pans on them. I've eaten at Little sister a few times before and really liked their food, but was totally disappointed by their service and lack of professionalism in the dinning room. We were impressed with both the indoor and outdoor seating areas, which were among some of the most beautifully decorated that I've seen in Irvine. Their menu includes quite an extensive selection of Southeast Asian-inspired cuisine and cocktails, and with the recommendation of our waitress, we ended up ordering the Seafood Black Rice, which reminded me of an Asian fusion take on a traditional seafood paella. We also ordered the beef pho, which came with a generous portion of fresh rice noodles and high quality brisket, as well as vegetables to garnish, and their housemade sriracha and hoisin sauce to dip the meat. The worst customer service EVER. It's Friday, we tried to get reservations but nothing was available for a party of 6. We walked in and waited in line to put my name on a wait list. Was told that our table will be ready in 30 minutes. Got a text confirmation. Waited for an hour with no text. So we check in to see the status. The host that took my name immediately recognized me and told me several times "just a minute". After 15 minutes we were told by another host after she checked with a manager that there's no table for 6 and that there might be a table for 6 outside in the "near future". We waited over 90 minutes for a table that was supposed to be ready in 30 minutes. Now we are expecting to wait another "near future" for a table outside?!? I've been to this modern Vietnamese spot a dozen times and usually come back for the vibe more than the overall experience. I recently went with family, and like always, the space is very spacious with both indoor and outdoor seating. It's great for groups, especially since they also have a bar. I ordered the Saigon bowl with lemongrass chicken, and it was packed with flavor. The grilled lemongrass chicken was juicy and paired well with the vermicelli, fresh herbs, pickled daikon, and fish sauce dressing. Just a heads up, watch out for the red peppers! I took a bite of one and it definitely had a spicy kick. I also tried the glamonade, a blend of ginger, lemongrass, and mint, and it was refreshing. It's definitely perfect for a hot 90 degree day. One thing to note, the AC was super cold and cranked up, so be prepared to grab a jacket if you're sensitive to chillier temperatures. The dishes here are big and definitely shareable, which makes it great for visiting with family or friends. Parking at the Spectrum sometimes feel like a matter of luck. I opted to just park in one of the structures after circling the lot a few times. This was a Friday around lunch hours. The place is beautiful, lots of glass, indoor outdoor seating, high and low seating. Service was nice, our waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful. Other staff members assisted us quickly, constantly topping off our waters. Food-wise, I opted for the black rice. It was good, wild/purple rice mixed with curry flavors. There could've been more seafood. Nice large shrimps and octopus. I was expecting bigger pieces of scallops but they were tiny. Portion is in that mix range of too small to share, too large for yourself A place like this, I'd like to share since there's a good mix of different items, but their portions seem catered to individual portions Don't get me wrong, the quality is there and the dishes pack a lot of flavor. I went here twice over two weeks January of this year. The first time everything was amazing, including the food and service and the second time service was still good, but the food was just off in many ways. The wings looked really good but the taste wasn't that great or the texture. Same with the spring rolls the second time the shrimp tasted off. Unfortunately I got stomach sick and had diarrhea for a full day after eating here the second time so won't be coming back soon, unfortunately but I thought I had found a new favorite spot in Irvine. Probably their best dish is the shaky shaky beef, followed by the garlic noodles. During our second visit, my friend who loves beef for some reason, only ate 1/3 of his food and didn't even want to take the rest of it home with him. He said the meat tasted weird as well. My husband just recently had his work lunch party at little sister so we decided to give her a try for happy hour. The value for happy hour is excellent. They call it their golden hour and you can order any classic cocktail for $8. They also have some beer and wine to choose from and about seven appetizers. I ordered the coconut crusted meatballs and the crispy pork rolls. Both were good, but the pork rolls were the winner. To drink, I ordered a brown derby, which is typically a grapefruit, honey, bourbon cocktail, but I think I received more of a gold rush type drink, but it was still great. I also ordered something off their regular menu, which was not on sale which is called the Hanoi heatwave. Tasty, but a little too smokey for me. It tasted like they made it with Mezcal when it was really just a tequila drink with black peppercorn. Interesting. I would not order it again. Went to grab a late lunch/early dinner the other night and had a really nice time. The restaurant itself is so pretty. We love the lights and the little lamps on the tables. I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee espresso martini which was pretty good. My boyfriend really liked it, but I was just okay with it. I asked for a taster side of the Vietnamese coffee alone on the side just for try. I personally don't like theirs, but I do think it tasted better in the espresso martini than it does alone. For dinner, The only complaint I have is that we didn't know they had happy hour as no one told us or even asked if we were there for dinner or happy hour (we arrived around 4-4:30). We found it they only offer it at the bar or patio after I saw it on their website and asked our waitress. She was very nice though and let us add a couple of happy hour drinks to our table since we had already been there and finished dinner. We had the papaya salad, the xoi (crispy sticky rice), and bo Khoi (short rib). The food is presented so beautifully. I hated the papaya salad tbh. And I love papaya salad. Absolutely unacceptable customer service and a complete failure in basic restaurant operations. We had a reservation for 6:30 PM and arrived at approximately 6:40 PM, which was still within the restaurant's stated 15-minute grace period. When we arrived, there was no one at the hostess station. We stood there waiting for several minutes with no staff member available to check us in. When a hostess finally appeared after 6:45 PM, she informed us that our reservation had been canceled because we were now more than 15 minutes late. This was despite the fact that we had arrived before the grace period expired and were prevented from checking in solely because the restaurant failed to staff its front desk. Rather than taking responsibility for their own absence, the staff chose to blame the customer and rigidly enforce a policy that their own negligence caused us to violate. There was no apology, no attempt to accommodate us, and no effort to resolve a situation that was entirely within the restaurant's control. A reservation is a commitment from both sides. We upheld our end by arriving on time. The restaurant failed to uphold theirs by leaving the hostess station unattended and then punishing us for it. The combination of poor management, lack of accountability, and indifference toward customers was astonishing. If this is how they treat guests before they even get seated, it raises serious concerns about the overall quality of service. We left feeling disrespected and unwelcome.
