Well despite passing by here with my motorcycle friends in the past before the pandemic I was finally able to try this Japanese restaurant for the First time. Very good tempura udon. Sushi was a bit odd to me but was delicious too. Why only 3 stars was because the waitress dis not understand when I ordered another sushi appetizer. I told her 2 times and said she understood but clearly not. I had addressed it to her about my disappointment. Also place was not ada or handicapped complient. Other than that food was great but service was subpar and not handicapped accessible for my mom who was my guess. Interesting to see a bonsai decoration on my sushi. Really enjoyed this place. I had already decided I wanted to go there but it was also recommended by some of the locals we talked to. We went for lunch on a Thursday and it wasn't busy at all. They have an extensive menu with lots of choices for cooked and raw sushi. Me and my boyfriend both got sushi, soup, salad and mai tais. The ginger salad dressing isn't the kind I prefer. Theirs is sweet and I prefer the tangier one. Overall we had a great meal and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. read more

We had an amazing time, however, we went to dinner at Little Tokyo the last night, and had a terrible experience with the wait staff. The food was very good, and the portions were extremely generous. However, our waitress was completely inattentive and ignored us for most of the time we were there. She never came by and asked us how the food was, never came by to refill our water, and, at one point in time, seemed annoyed with me when I ordered an extra dish. We literally had to walk around the restaurant a few times to try to find our waitress and were unable to locate her, until our last ditch effort we found her, and she had completely forgotten about one of the dishes we had ordered and again seemed annoyed with us. While the food was pretty good, the experience with our waitress was terrible. read more

So so good! Fresh and tasty. Good service. Good place to go even if you have someone in your party who doesn't like sushi, with a nice selection of cooked items too. I had the spicy tuna roll, tuna and avocado roll, sake (fresh salmon) sushi, seaweed salad, shared some vegetable dumplings and my BFF had the teriyaki chicken (no raw stuff for her) which came with miso soup and a small side salad. Literally everything was delicious and I'm not that easily pleased. BFF never had miso soup before and I was worried that it might be too earthy for her, as miso soup can be sometimes be but she loved it. It's unassuming and the elevator music is a bit weird, but we really enjoyed ourselves. Bonus is that my Sauvignon blanc was great, too. I do wish they had Prosecco but the tasty wine made up for it. Who knew Galena would have a great sushi place? We decided to try this place based on the reviews. When you walk in there's a crooked staircase right in front of you, to the right is a bar, a few tables, and restrooms, to the left there's a sushi bar and a few tables. They have a pretty large menu, so something for everyone. We really enjoyed the sushi, rolls, tempura, and gyoza. We didn't care for the calamari, it was the kind of large rings that some chain restaurants serve, it was a very small portion and overcooked. Other than that, it was a great meal. read more

Being the only Japanese restaurant in Galena, you could truthfully say, "There's no competition when it comes to sushi in Galena." Sadly, though, I think that's what's needed here. For starters, this place could use some interior upgrades. The one sushi bar is kind of placed awkwardly in the main aisle. However, it's really small for much more anyway. As for the food, I ordered a Bento box dinner with beef teriyaki and sushi. The beef was tender but lacked flavor. The sushi was mediocre at best, even with sauce. Bento box means it comes with California rolls, which were ok, and gyozo, also ok. The miso soup, I thought could have used less salt. My wife had the chicken Pad Thai. Worst Pad Thai ever. When you go into this hole in the wall, it looks very underwhelming but still charming. Despite the amount of servers which was 1 or 2, our food came fast and drinks were filled often. Great service. I was a little nervous going in, since some of the more recent reviews haven't been great, but I gotta say that this was some of the best sushi I've had! Granted, we did only try the cooked rolls and didn't have any of the raw fish, but I thought the flavor was great. I have three words to describe Little Tokyo... Yum, yum, and YUM! I really wasn't expecting much from a sushi place in Galena, man was I wrong. We ordered the Down Town Roll (Spicy yellowtail, tempura crunch inside, topped with tuna, salmon, avocado with Wasabi sauce) and the Chirashi platter, the presentation was beautiful (See my picture), and the fish tasted very fresh. The service was very pleasant, and the sushi chef even gave us a little complimentary "appetizer" of cream cheese wrapped in smoked salmon, with a sprinkling of green onions and sauce. Delish! I wanted to write an updated review, because I feel it deserves it. Little Tokyo did not disappoint again when I ate dinner here. As always, the service was great and I really enjoyed the simplistic ambiance of the place. This time I decided to get some sushi. I ordered the amazing roll which included shrimp tempura with spicy tuna and other accompaniments, and I also ordered the ultimate roll which came with tempura oyster and avocado. Both rolls were some of the best and freshest sushi rolls I've ever had. The amazing roll had a nice crunch from the lightly battered shrimp and the wasabi mayo on top gave it a nice kick. The ultimate roll was a nice contrast to the amazing roll with tempura oyster and fresh avocado topped with eel sauce, which was sweet, savory and complex. Although, I'm not the biggest fan of green tea I decided to try it here with my dinner. Normally, I think green tea is a little too mild, but this tea seemed fresh-brewed and was slightly stronger than other green teas I've had in the past. It was definitely a nice light beverage to go with the heavier sushi rolls. All in all, this place has quickly become a must-stop for me whenever I visit Galena, because it really is one of the best restaurants here. read more

Definitely one of, if not the best meal I had in Galena. A lot of the surrounding restaurants are mostly burgers/sandwiches/etc. After two days of that, we were ready for something different and Little Tokyo was a breath of fresh air.
