First Impressions: this is a local spot and close enough to my apt to walk for Thai cravings. The food is really good and the prices are reasonable. The Noms: Ground pork basil rice- one of my default orders here... the meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned and mixed with rice and a fried egg is one of the most perfect comfort meals. Coconut sticky rice - I like to order this as a dine in order because then I can ask for more coconut cream, because they tend to be a bit skimpy with it. For deliveries, which I have done three times now... it's always very dry. In Conclusion: So after the first time my coconut sticky rice was too dry, I asked for extra coconut cream on the side for the second time but they forgot... then the third time they remembered but the packaging was so poorly done that it spilled everywhere in the bag. That time was the last straw... I can no longer order take out from them. It's awful. And when you call to give the owner feedback, he told me to return the food and he will remake it. Bruh. I'm on my lunch break at work, I've not got time for these shenanigans. Had a hankering for Thai and decided on delivery. Found a deal on GrubHub so ordered Living Thai's Lunch Special Penang Curry with Mock Duck with Extra Shrimp and selected the side Thai Salad. Didn't know Mock Duck was a thing and curious to test it out. The "mock duck" was not so bad, but not sure had I'd be able to discern it was emulating duck flavor through the stronger curry sauce. Loved the vegetables too. Overall the dish was flavorful and glad I ordered the Extra Shrimp to make it more of a filling meal, although not sure without the deal it's as good a value. I think overall, this is a pretty mid thai place. The food wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. One of my favorite dishes is duck so when I saw there was a duck curry, I jumped on the opportunity to order it! I was hoping it'd be a bit more flavorful, but it seemed like a pretty generic curry. I was happy that I was able to sit down with a decently large party of 6 pretty quickly on a Friday night, and I wouldn't mind coming again potentially if someone suggested it, but it's not a restaurant I would highly recommend and want to come back to frequently. I normally love tom ka soup, but I couldn't finish this one. Red Curry: Doesn't have quite the depth of flavor that I am used to in a red curry. It was quite a large container of curry, though, and it was tasty enough that I ate it with all of the jasmine rice that came with the meal. There werent any spices/herbs (ex: lemongrass) in the soup which was nice (smoother eating experience). It was sour and had a light kick to it. They gave me three pieces of shrimp and there were mushrooms. 4/5 pad thai - i got a bit tired of eating it partway through but i'd already finished the soup so that might be why. Forgot to take a photo bc i was excited 5/5 mango sticky rice - mango was perfectly sweet and soft. The sticky rice was also really good but the outside formed a bit of a layer and was difficult to separate into smaller bites without it tearing more sticky rice so i ended up with a much bigger piece than i wanted. A cute, casual and affordable Thai restaurant near Columbia with good food and service! I came here with a friend on a Monday around 2:30pm and we had a great time. We made it in time for their lunch special (12pm-3:45pm) and it was so worth it!! For the special you can choose one starter and one entree. We both chose Tom yum soup for our starters, and I got drunken noodles for my entree while she chose one of the curries. All of that only came out to $14.11 each, which is amazing for NYC. Furthermore, we loved the Tom yum soup as it was perfectly flavored. I do think the drunken noodles tasted a bit bland especially in comparison to the soup, but I still really enjoyed my meal. I ordered from Living Thai on a weekday for lunch. They have a lunch specials menu with several options to choose from, I selected the red curry with a side of shumai. Upon placing my order online, I received a phone call shortly after notifying me that the restaurant ran out of shumai, and I was presented with some alternative options for my side instead. I selected the chicken pot stickers. I think my order was prepped in record time for any pickup order that I have ever picked up from. Because once I hung up the phone I was already on my way out to go pick up my lunch. The pickup process was pretty seamless, the establishment prefers cash payments. My red curry was flavorful and the chicken pot stickers tasted like any normal chicken pot sticker, but the nice part about it was that it wasn't too oily. I would say for Thai takeout orders in this area, this place probably serves smaller portions when compared to their local competitors. Overall, this is a nice option for a lunch special if you don't mind smaller portions. While walking around last night looking for a new place to try dinner, my friend and I were drawn in by the colorful decorations outside of the restaurant. We asked our waitress for recommendations, what she enjoyed and what was very popular. It was a hard decision because everything really did look so good. I ended up ordering the Green Curry with my choice of protein being chicken. The curry meals do come with a side of rice. My friend ordered the Drunken Noodles, and chose shrimp as his protein. Our food was served to us in a reasonable amount of time, and arrived piping hot. The flavors of the curry were very well balanced and each ingredient tasted very fresh. I tried one of the noodles from my friend's dish, and it was also very flavorful. I did not try a shrimp, but he insisted that is was excellent. I'm looking forward to returning to Living Thai. First time here and we like how authentic the dishes taste. We dined in and ordered: 1. Pad Kra Pao (Thai Basil Ground Pork with rice) 2. Green curry 3. Pad Thai 4. Mango Salad No fuss, no loud music! We like how the restaurant is decorated, true to the Thai essence unlike many Thai restaurants in the city which have opted for modern furnishings. The weakest link is the Mango Salad. Avocado will never be added as one of the ingredients in mango salad in Thailand. Though not at all close to the typical Mango salad (in Thailand, only green raw mango will be used) we accepted it because the flavors is the same. Certainly I don't mind ripen yellow mango. I love coming here to sit and have a good chat with friends, without the loudness or flashiness of other Thai restaurants in the area, but still with great service and food. They had like a snack size portion of the massaman curry was which was exactly what I was looking for. I was excited to return. I called ahead of time at around 2 pm to check when the lunch special is until. They told me it's until 4:30 pm. I came at 4 pm to try their lunch special. I was told their store is closed from 4-5 pm. I was like, "okay but I just called and checked and was told the lunch special is until 4:30". She said sorry but basically implied that I needed to leave. I just find it very disrespectful when businesses first lie to the customer by providing false information over the phone and then subsequently when they arbitrarily close down midday but do not put their correct hours on any of their sites (yelp, google etc.). The restaurant was well lit and felt very airy on a sunny afternoon; the decor is pretty with Arabian lights hung and lots of artsy pictures on the walls. I'm a Thai Market regular, and this was such a welcoming surprise and definitely worth the 2 extra streets of a walk to Living Thai. For the lunch special priced at only $7.99, I ordered shrimp shumai for the appetizer, coupled with drunken noodles as the entree. The shumai was packed with flavor and felt fresh, and the drunken noodles were super delicious, packed with great flavor. The Thai Iced Tea was also really affordable for $3 and the dessert Mango Sticky Rice was super yummy. Overall I spent under $40 for a shared 3 course meal for two, which is rather excellent. The food came out at a reasonable rate and the service was wonderful! I actually liked this overwhelmingly more than Thai Market, because the service was more efficient and kind, the prices cheaper with greater value, and the food more delicious and high quality.
