Lured in by the raving reviews. First impression was that this is a popular restaurant suitable for families and dates. I mean they've been around for like 50 years now. I'm not too adventurous so I can only speak for the pizza. The pizza was heavier on the crust, which made it just a little bit awkward to fold. The overall pizza itself was still kinda thin. Flavor was decent. Price was a bit on the higher end. Love the bread though. Fresh out and went well with the olive oil. Not sure why they offered me a second one then didn't bring it :( maybe it's one per table but oh well.

We ordered the Palermitana pizza and added pepperoni, Ravioli with pesto and the Bolognese pasta. Everything was delicious, tasted home made and fresh! The staff were friendly and accomadating.

My friends and I were craving for some yummy Italian food. With a quick yelp search, we found this restaurant. The place was full but the server was gracious enough to get us seated in the outdoor area. We ordered the michelangelo pizza and the pesto ravioli. The ravioli was filled with sheep milk cheese and we couldn't wait to try it out. They offered some complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was delicious. The food came out pretty quickly. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The flavors were bursting in the mouth. There were adequate vegetables on the pizza, which was appreciated by us. The pesto pasta was tasty too. The pasta itself was super soft and tasted fresh. The sauce was not overpowering and was well balanced. All in all, we had a great time! The food was authentic, yummy and fresh. We will definitely going back again.

This may be my favorite Sicilian restaurant in Berkeley. The bread they serve is warm. That's important. The house red wine in a carafe is most pleasing. The mixed vegetables are the best. The vibrant colors and cooked to perfection! When is the last time one got excited over veggies. The meatballs are a must. You get two although they may of seemed slightly smaller than last time I was here. Again if it's to be served warm it better be and it was. I chose the tortelli Campagnola. I was not expecting this to be so wonderful. I've never experienced this entree before. The tiramisu not only was enormous but darn good. Service was good. Who I perceived as the owner was in hyper drive. I love this place. On the smaller size for interiors but well worth patronizing. No reservations accepted.

Overall, I have no major complaints and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. I was just not very impressed with the food, given the prices. I had the Fettuccine Alaska ($28) that was just very...basic. Both in appearance and taste. The cream sauce wasn't very flavorful, and adding parmesan cheese on top didn't make too much of a difference. The smoked salmon didn't taste that high quality either. Not that it was bad, but it was simple enough where I feel like it would've been easy enough to just make at home for a fraction of the price.

We came here on a whim around 5pm on a Friday night. They were so welcoming right off the bat! Our food was excellent, the free bread was a nice touch, and the attentive staff were great. The spaghetti noodles were perfectly cooked and the gnocchi was soft like little pillows. We can't wait to come back. The kind and family-like staff really made it so nice.

Insanely authentic and delicious Italian food! Very much family owned and super cozy inside. Our waiter was so friendly and gave us great recs for our dinner! He also threw in a full bottle of wine + extra meatball on the house. The meatballs were the best I've ever had! And the pasta was absolute perfection. I will def be back!

Prefect spot for great Italian food! Food melted in my mouth - Pasta was amazing, with perfect sauce and perfectly soft meatballs. Lively environment, with many customers so make sure you get there early. Waiters were friendly and answered my questions about the menu.

This is such an amazing Italian restaurant I've been going here for so long and I really love the pizza and the Linguine con sugo is great. I know people who work there and it has a great atmosphere.

Truth be told, Jamie W. and I have walked by this always crowded spot dozens of times, and while I knew it would be good based on my historical pizza gluttony at the Piedmont Avenue location, we also knew it would be carb central, so we kept walking, that is, until we were feeling in dire need of familiar comfort food on a cold, brisk evening. Go early. It opens at 4PM, and I'd suggest getting here before 5 unless you're willing to wait in the small side room that looked like the elevator for the Empire State Building. We started our dinner by sharing a Focaccia Bread (photo: https://yelp.to/OP-Jkb54NO) the $18 Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables straight from the farmers' market - broccolini, cauliflower, mushrooms, romanesco, and cherry tomatoes (photo: https://yelp.to/jWTfA8IZAt). A nice healthy start that segued to our individual pasta orders. Jamie had their signature dish, the $17 Tagliatelle al Sugo with a couple of their huge Meatballs (photo: https://yelp.to/npYLdmdog-). It was a simple fresh pasta, very thin, covered in tomato sauce. Light but given heft by the moist meatballs. I went for the more luxuriant $27 Pappardelle Bolognese (photo: https://yelp.to/4z7SAfimVU). Famous for the eight-hour stewed beef and pork shoulder ragu that coats the noodles, the pappardelle was velvety good providing a highly carnivorous delight. You would think we would've been fully sated by now, but we decided to indulge in the $13 slice of Tiramisu, a delightful housemade confection, surprisingly light (photo: https://yelp.to/tuk4dJFmUt). The crowd was out the door when we left. Yeah, go early. FOOD - 4 stars...true homestyle cooking, good size portions AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...constantly crowded SERVICE - 4 stars...attentive server TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely need to stop more often...but early RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? San Francisco has great places to eat pizza. There is a pizza parlor for each neighborhood. Having…read moretried the majority of the pizza spots in San Francisco I decided to go to Berkeley. The city of Berkeley has brought good pizza recently to San Francisco like Rose Pizzeria. Going to Berkeley I have experienced great pizza places which are not located in SF. Berkeley has some great pizza places such as the Cheeseboard , Pizzeria da Laura and for the best Chicago style pizza at Zachary's Pizza ( actual fresher ingredients than most of Chicago )which both have no locations in SF. There a different pizza spot in Berkeley which serves fresh pizza with local ingredients and there is no spot in SF and it's called Sliver pizza. On a Summer day stroll in the sun in Berkeley I landed at the Telegraph Avenue. Inside there are plenty of seating and they do not accept cash. I ordered their POD also known as Pizza Of the Day. It had the Mushroom, red onions, green scallions , and it had a lemon zest which was sour like some in SF. It was a little cheesy and the sourdough crust was soft. It was tasty and you can taste the field to table ingredients in the pizza. They also have interesting pizza like the Cherry Corn Pizza like I saw on my social media feed. When in Berkeley you must try Sliver Pizzeria. Go to Berkeley for this is a "must" because they have a sourdough "crust" is a "plus" it's not too cheesy and very delicious and leaves some pizza places in SF in the "dust" This pizza place is to eat inside , pick up, and they do "deliver" I rate it more on gold standard side than "silver" fresh ingredients from the "Salinas River" at a pizza place in Berkeley on Telegraph called "Sliver"

I went last week and they had a summer corn pizza that was loaded with juicy kernels of corn, fresh tomatoes and peppers, plus a ton of parsley for garnish. I am a corn fan so I knew I'd like this flavor. And I wasn't disappointed. Sauce: Sliver could even be more well known for its sauces. You have to try the green sauce! Perfect blend of savoriness, freshness, and a kick of heat! Location: right off the Berkeley BART station, This shop is super easy to transit to whether you're taking bus or the bart. Lots parking nearby too. Bathroom: maybe I just went too early in the day before the employees had time to clean up the bathroom, but it had no toilet paper, no seat covers, no paper towels, and the hand soap was simply in a cup that you had to dip your fingers into... kinda sus? Overall I'll definitely be going back because sliver become so popular because of their incredible pizzas and not their bathrooms!

Where I found room for improvement was the other. The salads were expensive and not quite worthy. The Caesar was pretty disappointing, and I love me a Caesar salad. It has some outdoor seating but the star is the downstairs area. We were a bigger party, and were able to snag a last minute reservation for 8 people in the much more casual upstairs space. The downstairs is smaller, but very mid-century modern classy with a great wooden bar, perfect for date night. Back to the pizza: It's really good. The pepperoni is delicious. We also went with a speciality pie with cured meats, arugula and hot honey and it was truly a great pizza. They offer a variety of crusts - NY style, Detroit, Sicilian and Grandma. I only tried NY style and it was so good but the others look decadently good. Prices are similar to other pizza spots, so you're paying $28-35ish for a large. They do have small available, as well. Overall, a really great downtown Berkeley spot. Great pizza, great for families, and while space is somewhat limited, it's still great for groups.
