APPETIZER: Calamari Fritti ($16) - Big chunks of squid immersed in the batter. However, they fried squid is not very crispy, and marinara sauce is provided (I personally would have preferred cocktail sauce). 7/10 ALSO, they provide free bread. The bread was warm and crunchy, and a yummy olive oil dip was provided. ENTREE 1: Shrimp, broccoli, & ziti pasta ($25) - 7 pieces of jumbo shrimp embedded in tons of ziti pasta and broccoli. Tasted okay. Sauce was sort of plain, which made the pasta fairly bland. 6/10 ENTREE 2: Lobster ravioli ($25) - 5 huge pieces of ravioli that contained chunks of lobster. There was also 3 shrimps in the sauce. Tasted pretty good but not sure if it's worth it for the price. 7.5/10 DESSERT: Tiramisu ($7) - The waiter did not provide me with a dessert menu. instead, he asked me "chocolate cake or tiramisu." I had no idea what the prices were at all. I chose the tiramisu, and he brought it out after 3 minutes of putting the order in. 6/10 OVERALL: Service was too fast. The waiter would come and take away the plates as soon as he saw that we were finished. Maybe it was because it was a Wednesday night, and not many people were there. Also, the waiter seemed grumpy. He did not say anything when I said "thank you" to him when he took away the plates and moved with haste. WORTH IT? Only with the Groupon. You pay $50 for a $76 voucher, and I also got 25% off since I was a first-time user, so I paid a total of $37.50 for it. However, tax and tip are not included, so I paid another $15 out-of-pocket. I would go back again with the Groupon. I also set a reservation beforehand. I know that there are many negative reviews about the place, but I did not experience any of them, apart from a grumpy waiter. Let me start off by saying the 1 star reviews are by straight up haters and out-of-towners. This restaurant is my new favorite spot in the North End. The portions are huge! The flavors are wonderful and the service is smooth like it's run by a machine - I love a place where the service is genuine, quick and feels like clockwork. It definitely met my expectations for a family run restaurant. Obviously if you expect white table cloth service then step your game up and go to a nicer restaurant, but if you want some yummy food in a no-frills setting where it's lively and full of conversation and laughter, this is the vibe. read more

We came here before a show at TD Garden because it's in walking distance. When we came in there was very few people inside and we were seated quickly. We were waiting for a third party member and the staff were very patient in our waiting and brought us table bread and a really delicious oil topped with Parmesan, red pepper, and several other elements that just made for a delightful starter. Once more people started to show up, which quickly started to happen, the space got quite loud. I enjoyed the emptier restaurant a lot more and the noise might have gotten to me if it'd been consistent during my entire meal. I found our service and all fringe element of the experience to be just fine, nothing extraordinary and nothing subpar. The food, on my first impression, really delighted me. I had the squash ravioli which was a seasonal special and I really, really enjoyed it. It wasn't a once-in-a-lifetime type of bite, but I was really happy with it. I found out, talking to my party members later that they weren't as chuffed as me with their first impression as, while being really good, the food wasn't better than many other places. Dined on a Friday afternoon a bit after 3 pm. When we arrived, there was a table of three who were close to finishing their lunch. Besides the three, my friend and I were the only patrons. A waiter was seated at the back of the restaurant and greeted us with a big smile and directed us to the table in front of the window. He quickly came over with menus and offered drinks (we opted for tap water). My friend had purchased a Groupon which included an appetizer, two entrees and one dessert. As we pursued the menu, our server returned with a water goblet and we asked if there were any menu selection restrictions with our Groupon. He happily said "no". ..which is usually not the reception we receive when we tell our server in advance that we have a groupon. We usually get a snarl, indicating they aren't happy to have people redeem groupons, but definitely not here with our server today. Bonus star for the rating! We decided on the shrimp scampi as an appetizer, entrees to share included the veal Marsala which is usually served with ziti but we asked if a vegetable could be substituted and our serve was happy to oblige so we opted for broccoli sautéed with garlic, the seafood special (shrimp, scallops and calamari) over gluten free ziti with a red sauce. Bread and butter, along with a delicious dipping oil with house made thick balsamic, crushed red pepper and cheese arrived. The dipping oil was one of the best I've ever had, the bread, just so-so. 5 shrimp was served as our scampi appetizer. The shrimp was perfectly cooked, fresh with a delicious garlic sauce. By this time, we were the only patrons so it didn't take very long for our entrees to arrive. The seafood special included three shrimp, three scallops and tons of calamari ... all perfectly cooked, tender and fresh. The gluten free ziti was very good as well ...hard to tell it was GF. The red sauce was slightly sweet and not heavy - my preference. The veal was very tender and the Marsala sauce was slightly sweet and excellent. Tons of mushrooms too! The broccoli was sautéed in garlic and not overcooked. We were stuffed but dessert was included so we opted for the tiramisu over the chocolate cake, which were the two choices our server presented. I'm not a huge tiramisu fan but this was fantastic. Not drowned in liquor, light and not too sweet. I could have eaten the whole piece! Our water glasses never went empty, our server was very attentive, friendly and helpful. The overall tab (less the Groupon and tip) was $5.50. There is a $2 up charge for Gluten Free pasta but it was somehow included in the Groupon offer. One of the BEST meals and service experiences I've ever had in the North End. This place is horrendous and I have no idea why it still exists. I don't even expect spectacular service when I go out to eat. Mediocre service is fine by me if the food is tasty. But if wait staff is going to treat me like I'm not human, then they don't belong in the service industry. We wanted drinks, bruschetta and tiramisu and our waiter (probably owner) said "I can not do that." He practically scolded us for coming to the restaurant without ordering an entree. Our appetizer/food/drinks would have cost at least $20 bucks. I even tip better than most people, so they definitely missed out. I really just don't understand an owner who does not want freakin business... isn't that the point of a business... to make money?!? Even though I didn't say anything to his face, I felt extremely humiliated and pissed off. The other waiters at the front scoffed at us while we left. This restaurant is an absolute joke. I ordered $78 worth of food through Yelp / Grubhub and when I CALLED TO CONFIRM I was informed the "service was turned off" and that I can't order food from them? The 80$ charge already went through my bank account, what do you mean the service was turned off? The person on the phone I spoke to was extremely ride and unhelpful and told me they wouldn't make my food and that I would have to sit on the phone with Grub Hub to deal with this and get my money back. Literally the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I've also heard this restaurants food is bad in general with SO many better options in the North End. Visited this place while I am spending time in Boston, Massachusetts as my mother is running the Boston Marathon on the 16th. Place was like a traditional Italian restaurant it was nothing crazy special but food was good. I have never seen such a tiny street in my life where this place is located so the best way to get there is to walk cause you will spend a long time to find a parking spot. Ladies and gentleman, please meet my new favorite Italian Restaurant! Perhaps my favorite any restaurant! My wife and I were very hungry Sunday evening and wanted to eat in the North End. When walked by this place, and my wife suggested we check out the menu. Good idea! It was rather busy, but we got seated right away. Not five minutes later, I think every table was full. First the service was just nothing short of superior. Our waiter was Isaace. Please keep him. He's what ever waiter should aspire to be. Friendly, attentive, knowledgeable, and just a plain 'old nice guy. Then the food came and I could all but hear my tastabuds cheering. I got the fusilli and my goodness, I didn't know a pasta dish could be this good. It was served nice and hot, and the portion was beyond generous. For a beverage, I had a cranberry and seltzer. Not only was it the best tasting one I've ever had, but it was refreshingly cold as well. The kind you get only when the juice is kept cold in the refrigerator, not simply "chilled" by adding ice to the glass. My wife had a side of asparagus, and the eggplant with pasta for her main dish. Yum is the only word to describe it. For a drink, she had a Cosmo, and this too was delish! The bread was just stunning. It was fresh, and piping hot and tasted just baked. It came with a litle bowl of phenominal grated cheese and herbs and that increased our dining pleasure a thousand fold. I can't wait to come back here with our friends. read more

We made plans with friends to come to the Northend and they made reservations for 8. We waited for a few minutes when we arrived but it was worth it. Our table was up front near the front. Sometimes I am leery because sitting next to the front door can be breezy but it was cozy and perfect for talking. I had just had my braces put on so I wanted something soft. What better than pasta. I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan with linguine and they cooked it just a bit more. Perfect! I loved the sauce and was so happy to have something that tasted so good and made to order. There were many things on the menu that I would have loved to try. Parking in the Northend is tricky. We scored by driving down the street and came upon an opening. My first impression of the place was not the best because the woman at the front was not friendliest person. Rather than seating us to our table, she just told us to go sit in the back without even showing us where. Luckily, the food and our server were amazing. We ordered the seafood special and the lobster ravioli. The seafood special was delicious, though I wish it included mussels because I prefer the taste of mussels in the broth rather than calamari. I was extremely grateful that they could make the dish without garlic due to my severe allergy to it, which meant that I could not try the lobster ravioli. The folks at Loconte's were very accommodating to us when - thanks to congestion on I-93 and a delay on the T, we knew we would arrive late. We called to say we'd be late, and they said, "No problem, see you when you get here." Our table was ready for us when we finally arrived, and it was the start of an enjoyable evening. The atmosphere is casual and quiet, the staff friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, and the food was great. I liked the wine offerings on the drink menu. Bread came with extra-virgin olive oil. We supplemented that with appetizers which, though they did not come out at the same time, were also enjoyable. My chicken Margarita ($18.95) was 3 breasts, breaded and fried and served in a lemon sauce with mushrooms, all very tasty, very juicy, and with a strong lemon presence. The side of linguini was slightly more than I've gotten at nearby restaurants and delicate. I'm not certain if it was freshly made, but I was satisfied with it. The tomato sauce was okay; I would have liked it to be slightly stronger. Ramekins of cheese were available for everything through our entire meal. With all the clamor around the best restaurants on Hanover Street, Loconte's is a gem just 1 street over, without all the chaos. read more

We were excited to eat here and had booked our reservation a week ahead. When we walked in the door we were abruptly questioned about why we were there and whether or not we had a reservation. When we were told to go sit at the table in the back, it felt like we were in the way when a waiter turned around and commented "wow, so many people". When we told our server we wouldn't be staying he asked us where we thought we would get in on a Saturday night. The Chicken Parm here is amazing. I don't think you'll find a better one in the North End and that's really saying something! (if you do please pass it along) I brought a friend here from Baltimore and he said it was the best Italian food he'd ever had. I was like c'mon man you don't have to be overly polite but he insisted that it was the best. On that particular occasion the waiter never asked us what we wanted to drink with dinner. It was good I strongly recommend the chicken marsala, great texture, taste and smell. I don't think the chicken could have been better prepared. The service is great and has a interesting twist when you find out that not only is it an italian restaurant but to be authentic the wait staff is all italian from italy. A full meal with drinks could get a bit pricy though, but defiantly worth it. You have to think about it this way, A the portions are massive B its all fresh from scratch. The service was horrible and we were made to feel as if we were bothering the waiter who we had to beg for attention for the basics of water and bread. Do not waste your money and come here even if it's on Groupon. Opening: the staff hanging outside of restaurant smoking and idling. It's a forewarn because other restaurants has people lined up waiting. There are flies buzzing inside near out table. Food: Shrimp scampi has 3 frozen shrimp and it has no taste, lobster ravioli is undercooked and has 3 frozen shrimp thrown in, calamari came out luke warm. Only tiramisu and bread taste acceptable because they are not made from this restaurant. Service: The waiter only appears to take our orders and come out to collect the check. Ending: After not touching any food for 30 minutes because it was so bad, we had 3 people in our party and they added 18% tips to the bill. Food and service was spot on. We picked this restaurant to bring some out of town relatives to for an authentic Italian N. End meal. Everyone had linguini with either clam, scampi, or coippino. Over the past 15 years I've gone to Lo Conte's on and off. It used to be really great! Last time, kind of questioned the food. But after tonight, I'm done. While we got there with no wait at 4ish on a Sunday, holiday Monday, and could seat 6 right away, it started off on a sour note. Walked in to the host/waiter sitting and just pointing towards a bench. The mussels app in red sauce were almost all open all the way and tasted fishy, urine?, slightly rancid smell. The garlic bread with cheese looked like it came from a box. Pretty sure the carbonara had an inch of oil at the bottom, we returned it (they did take it off the bill at least). Tuscan Chicken risotto, bland and no flavor. Veal gnocchi, the gnocchi was great. The veal, not soft, not tender, not flavored. Did it come out of the freezer and get microwaved? Now even the pasta and meatballs for the kids, how do you f' up a meatball or the flavor. Hey, at least my 2 glasses of Cab were good. Now that I made it back home, think I'll write this review while having some microwave popcorn and a margarita, which quite honestly are better, so I can forget one of the worst meals I've had in 20+ years! read more

Horrible service!!! One of the girls we were with ordered butternut squash ravioli, which came 20 minutes later than everyone else's meal. Then they put half of it with lobster ravioli, which she is ALLERGIC to!!! She was too shy to say anything so had the rest of the people eat it around her. Then after the check came they were rushing to get us out of there by cleaning the table. They spilled water all over and did not apologize. They barely cleaned it and just let it pour onto everyone. I've gone to Loscontes over twenty times with my girlfriend. Over all the pasta dishes are phenomenal. However, two times that I've been there I was charged twice. I did not receive a full refund until two weeks later. I suggest coming to this restaurant with cash.... the fact that this happened two different times and I still come back for the food-says a lot on their end. read more

Loconte's Get's High Marks! For exceptional food; attentive servers and excellent value, go to Loconte's. During a recent visit to Boston, we called to make a reservation for Saturday evening and were told that they don't take reservations for two. Upon arrival, we were asked if we had reservations and were then told that the wait would be 40 minutes. After some good-natured banter, the hostess suggested that we dine on the second level. This arrangement pleased us because the space was smaller; more intimate and quiet. The antipasto was beautifully served with the finest cheese, olives, soppressata, prosciutto and artichokes garnished with fresh basil and drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Then came our entrees--pasta orecchiette and chicken saltimbocca. Yum! Although still confused about whether they take reservations, our meals could not have been better and we can't wait to dine here again. read more

Normally I would recommend people to restaurants in my Instagram but this place is a joke. If I could give , I would give a negative star because first the waiter didn't let my friend and I split meals. When I asked where in menu (in fine prints) said no sharing. He said they just don't allow. Fine, I gave the benefit of doubt because it could be cultural. By the time we was about to paid, he came over and said CASH ONLY. I was like what? Lucky, my friends and I had cash but we didn't see a sign at the front door said "CASH only". When we left, I looked at their front door and they do accept credits cards! read more
