Yelp reviews led us (hubby and a friend) here. We were in search of good seafood and have tried many of the other choices in the area. You're by the ocean...how can you go wrong? Some of the negative reviews were about the service. The hostess was lovely, there wasn't a wait as it was fairly early (4 pm) on a spectacular Sunday afternoon. As we walked thru the dining room most patrons had some sort of fried seafood...and lots of it. Menus were provided right away and it didn't take our server, Barbara, very long to ask us for our drink orders - we all had tap water with lemon. I had already seen Paella on the menu while looking at their website so had that on my mind to order and stuck with that (side garden salad included) . Hubby came prepared to have haddock so decided on the fish and chips (fries and Cole slaw as sides). Our friend ordered the seafood risotto also accompanied by a side garden salad. Complimentary warm bread with butter and a chopped olive and garlic "spread". I've never seen that come with bread before but our friend has. She said it was very good to which I replied "yuck...olives would be one thing I despise the most". Side salads were generous in size and the vidalia onion dressing was very good. It didn't take too long for our entrees to arrive. Everything was very hot! Paella was loaded with seafood (mussels, clams, scallops, shrimp, salmon and lobster pieces and meat from one claw), chorizo, peas, onions and yellow rice. It was very good. The best I've ever had was at Latitude 43 but it's not offered there all the time . This was 2nd best to the ones I've had. Hubby was extremely happy with his fish. Very flaky, hot and "light". Fries are standard frozen fries. Cole slaw was good, not drenched in mayo/dressing. Friend was very happy with her seafood (lobster, shrimp and scallop) risotto and she's not easily pleased. Only comment was risotto was quite cheesy but still enjoyable. We were too full for dessert but observed another table sharing a strawberry shortcake which looked enormous. No complaints about service, Barbara was attentive during our meal but after being given the tab we didn't see her and had to ask one of the hostesses to run our credit card. Other than that and the fact the restaurant is not fancy or up to date (I'd say classic for the area) we had a great first experience and WILL be back! Total tab: $71.69 not including tip. read more

Something about Gloucester that screams seafood. The fresh salt air and close location to the water and the highway makes it easy. Friend drove and the convertible top down, nice Saturday afternoon. Parking lot was filled, so you know you arrived at the right place. It seems that everyone else was in the mood for it too. I'm a true lover of seafood and I know prices can be high, but when you find a great place it is so worth the money and the drive. Started out with a bowl of chowder (clam) I know crackers are standard tag alongs, but secretly wish that some restaurants would replace it with rolls, granted there is chowder in a bread bowl, but it's not what I would want, I digress, I ordered the fried seafood platter. A little miscommunication between the waitress and myself as I asked for no shrimp on the platter and was a tad surprised to see them on there, but it was alright. The seafood did not disappoint with great taste and the sizing. My companion had the baked scallops, he found his quite delicious. Have bookmarked the restaurant to go back again. Wow! Maybe because it's Father's Day but we had dinner at 3 and it was still crowded!! That's the only reason I can't give it 5 stars.. the food was amazing! We shared the lobster chowder, yummy!! Yes!! This is the lobster roll to get in Gloucester. It may look unassuming from the front, but this place is a gem. It has a beautiful view of the marsh and the food is fresh and fast. The lobster roll had great flavor with a small amount of mayo and a ton of meat. I'm a traditionalist and would have preferred a split-top hotdog bun but the brioche bun was tasty. The clam chowder hit it out of the park. It's gluten free and a great consistency with a ton of flavor. My server also recommended the onion rings and she was spot on, they are thin and crispy and wonderful! I splurged and got some key lime pie. It was thick and rich (not a light dessert) but packed with flavor. I highly recommend stopping here for a meal. read more

This is a pleasant restaurant that we went after a whale watch. Its's a clean, average sized restaurant with ocean themed decor. One of the best parts of this restaurant right off the bat is that they accommodate many allergies with the gluten free options clearly marked. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and could answer most of our questions and got the answers for the ones that she couldn't. She came to our table right away and took our drink order and we had them quickly. I got a cup of chowder and a salad with my entree. The chowder was flavorful but thin. I personally like thick chowder. The side salad was a nice size and looked fresh. I ordered the salmon risotto special. The salmon was cooked perfectly but the risotto tasted a little bland to me. I came here right before the rain started. The view of the meadow was amazing. We saw the rain start off from the distance and then move towards us. Definitely seat near the window! To the food! Lobsta Land has a variety of seafood. My gf and I ordered the haddock chowder and the fisherman's platter. The chowder was delicious and I thought haddock went well with it. The fisherman's platter had calamari, scallops, shrimp, clams, and haddock. The seafood were really fresh and there were a lot of it. It's market priced and it was $40. I thought it was fairly priced. The french fries and cole slaw was decent. They couldn't compare to the seafood. Our waitress was friendly and quick to respond despite the busy lunch crowd. Haven't been since a few yrs before Covid. Love the new outdoor deck overlooking the marsh and osprey nest. (Used webcam on our iphone to watch the family) Had amazing littlenecks in a saffron, spicy, briny, garlicky broth that was superb. Rolls come with it to dip in the broth. Husband got incredibly tender swordfish chunks in a lemony sauce over pilaf/rice. Just fantastic. Great Manhattans. Attentive waitress. We will be back more often! I have visited Lobsta Land and enjoy it every time. This time we sat on the patio and had a delicious lunch. The menu and drink selection are massive and everything is excellent. I had the haddock chowder (as I always do) and the grilled swordfish which was wonderful. My friend loved her haddock rachel and french onion soup. We will be back, I'm sure! read more

What a find this place is. Right off 128 heading back into the city. Perfect place to stop when the beach has you in the mood for some lobstah rolls. I got there around 3pm and it was packed. That should say enough about how good it is. I got the lobstah rolls and chowdah combo. It's market priced on the menu and it came out to $26. A little pricey but was worth every dollar. The roll was nicely toasted and had nothing but huge chunks of meat and was filled to the top. Very little mayo if there was any at all. The chowdah was great as well. We didn't feel like driving the extra hour to Maine from Boston just for lobster. We had heard Gloucester was the place to go in Massachusetts for lobster. Thank you Yelp for pointing us in the right direction. As others have mentioned, we entered with some skepticism due to the outward appearance of the place. But as the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. Inside the decor isn't flashy but it is clean and welcoming in the "neighborhood joint" kind of way. They had some great local brew on tap. Lobsters were market priced in the low twenties. Steamed lobster is pretty much the same anywhere when fresh but still delicious. I also had their lobster chowder which was excellent though pricier than I prefer. My wife finished her lobster roll without leaving me a bite to eat, which hardly ever happens. Service was excellent. Had a bite of the burger which wasn't bad at all for a seafood oriented place. The calamari was good, could've been fried better but it came with marinara sauce which is how I prefer it to be served. The Sunday dinner crowd seemed local which is a good sign for tourists like we were. You can never go wrong when the parking lot is full on a restaurant abutting an empty highway. read more

I'm not sure why this spot doesn't have more stars. I was in the hunt for some lobster and this spot scored similarly in a lobster roll review to my favorite spot in Boston. So, while it was on the edge of the expressway and not on the water, I did notice that even after 1pm on a weekday, this spot was relatively busy. This can't be a coincidence as there are plenty of other restaurants nearby. So, I lucked out with a seat with a view of the marshy area out back and I proceeded to order some lobster. I wanted a plain old lobster roll, but the lobster roll BALT called me...brioche bun, fresh avocado. Yum yum yum. The lobster portion was generous and without any filler - just a little mayo. This would be a 3-star choice for me if it wasn't for the Seafood Paella. That dish alone is worth an extra star! Had dinner here with my GF & a coworker. They both had a 1.25lb lobster and I had the Lobsta Land Sampler. At the time, I thought the food was tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary for seafood in the area (folks are spoiled in the North Shore for seafood!). However, I had lunch here a few days later and the Seafood Paella caught my eye. Taking a chance, I ordered it. The dish came out steaming hot and heaping with seafood. I'm guessing there was probably a good bit of prep done on the dish (compared to paella from scratch which seems to take an hour or more to make), but you wouldn't know it by the rich, savory flavor. The seafood in the dish was plentiful enough to have a chunk of seafood in every bite. Also, the saltiness & smokiness of the kielbasa sausage gave the seafood a nice boost. I'm actually drooling thinking about the next time I can have that dish! UPDATE: I had the Paella for lunch again, and it was just as good as before (photos posted). Probably the best lobster roll I've ever had. The hot lobster role was so good. There was a great portion size of the meat and the bun wasn't soggy and perfectly toasted. The fries were also the way I like them which is slightly golden brown and crunchy. We were able to sit outside due to the coronavirus. Great food, however the service was regrettable. A busy Sunday after a whale watch we expected some wait (30 min) but the hostess made us feel as if we were unwelcome visitors. Guests that arrived after us asked for and got the prime seats with a view and we were sat in a corner. Our waitress seemed inconvenienced , our wine glass had lipstick on it and she seemed irritated that we wanted a new glass.
