Food: Hmmmm...... it was...... okay?! The Honey walnut shrimp was the worst. It came out with too much mayonnaise. The kitchen wasn't even busy so idk how they could have served that dish so horribly! The mayo was so caked on it ruined the flavor. The salt and pepper pork was also pretty bad. The only thing you can taste is the garlic chips, since there was no flavor in the pork chops to begin with. We also ordered the lobster with the garlic butter sauce. This tasted yummy! The Peking duck was good. However I wish they gave the plum sauce on the side. Instead they already make the buns for you with the duck skin, green onion, and plum sauce inside. Service: For so many workers no one was very attentive to us. We had to keep waving to try and get someone's attention; mind you, they weren't busy at all and there were around 5 workers just walking around. The prices are so expensive! Oh my goodness! The honey walnut shrimp was around $20.95 i think?! Dry beef chow fun was around $13. I don't quite remember how much everything else was, but nothing is "cheap" there! It was a last minute decision to come eat at Lobster King. What started out with me mentioning that I actually like Minute Chicken Cake Noodles, led someone in our group to recommend Lobster King, saying that they had awesome Minute Chicken Cake Noodles. Despite a last minute walk-in, they luckily had one open table to accommodate our group of 12. The place looked like a basic older Chinese restaurant that served family-style meals, with the standard aquarium section housing fresh fish and crustaceans. There was nothing pretentious about the place or the people, which was nice. The menu was large, as expected from this type of Chinese Restaurant, and focused on Cantonese cuisine. The servers were very friendly and quick to bring the teapots and anything you ask for. We ordered 9 dishes total for our table and of course Minute Chicken Cake Noodles was one of them. We had to also order a lobster since we were at Lobster King after all. The food came out relatively quick, as they usually do at Chinese restaurants. The dishes were decent, what you would expect - not great but definitely far from disappointing. There's nothing fancy about the plating nor anything out of the ordinary. You get what your order and what you're craving. Now the infamous Minute Chicken Cake Noodle... it wasn't as great as it was made out to be, yet it wasn't bad either. Let's just say I've had better, but also have had worse then the one here. So if you just want a no-frills, decent, traditional family-style Chinese meal, then this restaurant is for you. After work, after not eating anything all day, after running errands, I was starving. We were going to grab sushi, but saw Lobster King was open and were right next to the parking so we decided to stop in. Being 4pm, it wasn't super busy, so we were seated immediately. Because I felt like I was starving, we ordered 3 different dishes. I'm going to tell you now, while the noodles under the lobster were tasty, I could not be distracted from the shellfish we enjoyed. Best deal for lobster ever and this is downtown Hawaii Singaporean chili crabs - I'd say decent , the sauce was pretty good and the crab was really fresh Salt and pepper pork - this is my go to dish . I know it's simple but I'm into salty food . This was perfectly fried here and I'd say one of the better salt and pepper porks Yang chow fried rice - they spell it young chow lol . I've been to Lobster King several times and I'm always impressed with the huge portions they give for such a good price. Someone told me that the owners have connections with the seafood market, which is how they get such fresh products every day! My sister and I went in to try their $8.95 lunch special (every day from 11-2) and we thought it would be a half portion like most places that do specials during lunch time, but boy, were we wrong. We tried three things - The Oyster Chicken with Cake Noodle, Shrimp Wonton Soup, and Beef Chow Funn. The portions were full-size and HUGE (naturally, we took so much leftovers home). The chicken was very tender, and I liked the contrast of textures in the cake noodles (soaked in sauce vs. dry). The shrimp wontons were big and the soup was super light and refreshing. There was also char siu pieces in it, and I loved how soft the meat was. The Beef Chow Funn was my favorite that we tried. There was a certain saltiness to it that I couldn't get enough of, and the noodles were boiled to the perfect consistency. We got to meet the owner, June, and she was so funny and sweet and made our experience so great! We told her how we loved the floral tea there, and she gave us a sample to take home! We were there a little past 6PM last night and the restaurant was already packed with groups of people. I recommend you make a reservation in advance because they got really busy as the night fell. We had a 3+ LB lobster dressed in garlic & green onion, walnut shrimps, oysters w/ garlic & onion, scallop fried rice, deep fried noodles in shrimp & veggie sauce, ohm choy w/ fermented tofu paste, four-season green beans with spicy peppers & minced meat, duck in buns (a plate of buns w/ tasty duck skin & a plate of duck meat), chicken with ginger & garlic dipping sauce, and the complementary dessert of ice cream & almond tofu. The food was decent but the service was slow due to high volume of customers needed attention and small number of staffs in house. There were a lot of groups there so we expected that the service would be slow. The table that we were seated at didn't have AC because the air conditioner was broken. It was getting kind of sweaty at the end of the meal, but thanks to the ice cream, I was relieved. My parents definitely wanted to be back because of the lobsters and the other dishes for any type of group dinner. They said LK was comparatively the best spot for Chinese food. I agree with them. I've driven by this restaurant many times and always wanted to stop in and try it out so finally did with a friend. Upon entering the establish they practice safe COVID19 procedures, with temperature scan, face masks, gloves, table dividers, documenting contact information, etc. The place looked very clean, and the tables and chairs were clean. I wanted to stick to seafood that day and thus we ordered two abalones for starters that were steamed and had a wonderful garlic sauce that complemented the meat perfect without overpowering the delicate taste. We shared a very big bug a whopping 4.25 lb that they brought out and showed us, it was alive and well with great healthy coloring. They took it back and cooked it up. Since there was only two of us for sides, keep in mind that everything is ala carte, we chose the seafood fried rice. The bug aka lobster and rice came out together and the lobster had their special sauce which was a garlic butter with lemon and a hint of ginger. Wonderful tasting! They sectioned the lobster into chunks and had them piled up on the plate which lacked in presentation. Though the lobster was fresh succulent and cooked to perfection because of the presentation it appeared that some of that large awesome looking fresh tail meat was missing. Hmmm, I brought it to the attention of the waitress who had been polite and professional, and she tried to point out that it was all there. I mentioned to here that I was going to layout the pieces of the shells to verify which I felt that there were not enough tail shells to make up that big boy's tail and as we ate and emptied the shells and placed them in a bowl, she quickly took the bowl away to discard the evidence. To say the least I became very annoyed. The seafood fried rice was an entire plate enough for four people and had some shrimp in it, not a lot but some, it tasted great though. Overall flavors, sauces and food seasoning was excellent, and I'd certainly try this place again. But I strongly recommend to the establishment to layout these giant lobsters on the serving plate so the customer can readily see that they are getting the entire lobster that they pay for. I also recommend having more than two folks because the side dishes are designed for about four people each. It's a seafood, cantonese joint that serves super fresh and authentic food, as evident by the hoardes of middle aged asian families always present. We got: - bbq meat combo (HIGHLY recommend)- hard to find meat this abundant and delicious outside of HK. So let me start off by saying that my 3-star ratings aren't bad by all means. They're good, but to caveat: I've had much better. Pros: service to me was great. The entire restaurant was run during lunch hour by three (3) servers. From hosting, to bussing, to seating, taking orders, to serving, to refilling drinks you name it. They did it all and efficiently - and with respect. I felt noticed as soon as I walked in the door and greeted promptly when sat for an order taking. FOOD. The menu was confusing for a first timer. I came here for the lobster and I was confused because there were different prices for (1 piece) of lobster versus (1 pound) of lobster. And then furthering that confusion, prices changed if you ordered an entree. There were so many different featured preparations for the lobster that were showcased on the menu but I found out there were an additional (4) different sauces you could choose from to cook your lobster in. I chose garlic butter. The poor waitress had to repeat each of the (4) sauces to me, and to every table around me. Why don't they just put the list of sauces on the menu? TASTE. The lobster was a decent size, sectioned off and chopped open ready to eat. But don't think you can get away without using both hands to eat this messy food. I think the raw lobster pieces are coated in cornstarch, flash fried, then coated in your sauce selection before serving because there was a light chewy coating on the outside of each piece. The sauce had ginger and garlic butter mixed in. Overall, it was a simple sauce. For my (1 pound) it was around $21. One of the waitresses told me that I should order 3 pounds because one pound is small and wouldn't fill me up. I'm glad I didn't get 3-pounds ($60+) because I was stuffed after my entree and 1 pound of lobster. The ambience is relaxed. The people who ate here during this time were respectful local town folks who were quiet. Eating alone is common here. When I came here, there were about four others were were also eating alone on large tables. My review overall is although the service was great, the food was tasty, i expected Lobster KING to bring their Lobster A-game with new and exciting dishes. Either presentation, flavor composition or both. But as you can see by my pictures they fell flat in presentation and I would second in flavor. Mediocre food. We got sucked in to get the steamed fish which they charge by the pound but is really no more different than you steaming it at home. Lobster King is situated at the northern end of "Koreamoku" on Keaumoku Street and King Street. There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant for patrons. We arrived around 8:30 PM and were quickly seated and given menus with an extensive list of Chinese and Korean dishes. We ordered the crispy chicken with garlic, Singapore noodles, and lobster. A lobster costs $14.99 with the order of one entrée. The waitress was polite and served us hot tea and cold water. The service was good throughout the evening. We were also given water with lemon near the end of our meal to wash our hands. Unfortunately, I noticed a German cockroach on the windowsill during our meal. I moved my purse out of the way and the cockroach quickly scurried underneath the windowsill where it remained for the rest of our dinner. I imagine it was rubbing its legs together salivating at our meal and waiting for its turn to finish the crumbs after we left. This is the third restaurant in Honolulu I've been to where I've seen a cockroach. The cockroach problem in Hawaii is bigger than any one restaurant or home, but there are prevention methods that restaurants should take to keep these pests at a minimum. There is no excuse for a restaurant to let a cockroach infestation go unfettered, and I'm growing tired of seeing this common problem throughout restaurants in Honolulu. If there are cockroaches crawling on tables and windowsills, I do not want to think about what things look like in the kitchen. The food was enjoyable but definitely not the best Chinese restaurant in town. I prefer Fook Yuen and Won Kee for better tasting food and a more sanitary atmosphere, although these restaurants are more formal and expensive than Lobster King. I thought the lobster at Lobster King was tender and flavorful, and a pretty good bargain at $14.99. It's at least better than the lobster I had earlier this month at Red Lobster. The crispy chicken with garlic chips was juicy and the meat tender. The Singapore noodles were plentiful and tasty. I would categorize Lobster King as a "hole-in-the-wall" eatery. This isn't a place concerned with aesthetics and upkeep. But if you are looking for somewhere that is unpretentious and reasonably priced, Lobster King is a decent choice for an informal late-night dinner. Extremely DISAPPOINTING...the WHOLE LOBSTER was mysteriously missing the ENTIRE TAIL, AND BOTH the bigger portions of the claws which everybody knows is the majority of the meat from a lobster. There was more shell than meat by far. This place falsely advertised a whole lobster and kept the best parts for another dish that they could charge someone else for. They evidently got to charge twice for the same lobster. How about serving an honest product? Also no free refills on fountain sodas? How hard up is this place? Stealing lobster from paying guests and not offering refills on a fountain soda that costs them 5 cents at wholesale prices. When a local friend recommend this place，I was excited because I had this bookmarked for a few years now. . After trying the food we were not impressed. We just thought it was meh. Here's why ? . Duck - one of the biggest size duck we had. The duck was not tender. The meat was tough. The taste wasn't good either. Just meh. We thought we were eating chicken. Maybe we are used to duck being a little more smaller so the meat is more tender. Normal people would think we want more meat. . Lobster with ginger and green onion stir fry - this was just ok. Wasn't bad or good just your average stir fry ginger and green onion lobster. . Fried oysters - this was good. The oyster was medium battered and deep fried. This was fresh and good. . Tofu with gravy and mixed chopped veggies -this was good. It was simple dish with great gravy and lots of veggies on top to go with white rice for sure. . Gai Lan-aka chinese broccoli. It was stir fry as well and if you love gai Lam it's hard to mess up prepping it. It was ok too. . Overall we had a great experience. The servers were busy but was quick to get us what we need. The inside we got seated in a round table with lazy Susan. It was busy inside. The vibe was chill and nothing fancy. Parking was ok we found parking in the parking lot. This review is to out Lobster King on their shady practices. Especially if you come during peak hour and your party is smaller vs bigger larger parties. We first got seated when there wasn't much people in the restaurant. By the time we ordered the bigger parties started to roll in. We were a party of 3. I'll focus on the main issue. So we ordered a good amount of food but particularly ordered the Peking Duck (full order). We waited as all of our other dishes came out before the Peking Duck. We know that at some restaurants Peking Duck takes a little bit longer to come out so we weren't worried that we waited a good while for it. It was about to hit the 25-30min mark, all of our other food we ordered had already hit the table (this is when the shady practices come) the waitress then comes to our table AFTER waiting 25-30mins and informs us that they "ran out" of Peking Duck and if we wanted to order something else. As soon as we gave her our alternative order one of the cooks come out with our Peking duck order. You could tell by the look on the waitress face the cook was suppose to bring it to a different table and not ours. As if they planned it in the back and was gonna give it to another larger party instead of us. The waitress gave us an awkward smile the proceeded to follow the cook in the back talking in their language. How could we be waiting 25-30mins and only now you say you "ran out" of the Peking duck? Wouldn't you know right when you put in the order? So we knew they tried to pull the switch on us. Further observation of our full order of duck we notice that we were missing the two drum sticks of the duck and all of the ducks skin was missing! The amount of skin in the buns did not reflect how much skinless meat we had in our order. There should've been some skin left on the cut pieces. Where was the rest of the duck at? Then we go to pay, the check was spit and we tipped cash on the full amount total. When the lady came to pick up the two signed receipts only one tray had cash, the other didn't as we put our cash together on one tray. The cashier looks at the other tray and says "tip?" I was already disgusted at this point and just said cash. They were in a rush to get us out. Don't know why? Had plenty of tables in the front area to seat guests. Never will be back here again! I was recommended here because someone said they had good jjajangmeun. This dish brings me back to Korea when they would deliver on motorcycles and held in a portable metal shelf. This.... Did not do that. Maybe they had an off day but the sauce tasted a bit different. I couldn't put my finger on it. Perhaps I thought maybe it's been too long and I forgot how it's supposed to taste... Nope. (just tried Dowon's and it was amazing) The sauce was very... runny. It didn't seem like it was thickened enough for the noodles to hold on to. We've been here for a Father's Day reservation at 7 PM. Got in right away, waitress we got was pretty nice, and waters with tea came out immediately. Took about 10-15 minutes to order. Let's say we did ask for a big order. We ordered about 10 items - 3 of each item. We're a party of 12 people. We weren't expecting much on time base, but at lease less than 1 hour for everything. It's been 2 hours now and we pretty much told them no just cancel everything else that we didn't get. We were full by the third plate served. Which was appetizers. We constantly had to ask for refills on drinks. Everytime another waiter besides our main waiter came, they left a nasty comment. Like? We're just waiting patiently, telling you please and thank you with no complaints, why're you hostile? The food itself was over cooked. The vibe here is ehhh. They got us seated by a UV bug zapper that cause a fly every 5 minutes. I'm a pretty patient person, but even the most patient person would be agitated inside by the long wait. Not to mention they don't communicate. Chefs missing orders, waiter not getting all orders, they're not very great at multitasking. If anything, chun wah kam is better than this place. Faster and cheaper. Just to give an idea, we came when everyone inside was done ordering but just eating and talking. There wasn't another party that sat down until almost 2 hours after we arrived. I came here for a family dinner. I heard good things about their lobster deals so we decided to try it out ($16.95 per pound for a live kicking lobster) However, we left unsatisfied. Service: We came in as a party of 4 and was we would be seated once the leaving party leaves and tables are cleaned. We waited patiently for 5 mins, and another party of 4 came in, and they got seated right away. They did not have a reservation either however they got seated before us. This type of service is absolutely unacceptable. Once we got our table, our waiter did not pay much attention to us and focused his service to the table next to us who were tourists. I am not sure this is the best service attitude. Food: Ginger scallion lobster My family decided to get a 3lb lobster to share. We wanted it to be pretty "clean" and asked to make it with ginger, scallion, and broth however all the ingredients came out burnt. The broth and lobster itself was really salty. The only pro was that the lobster itself was alive and kicking. Pei Pa Tofu: This has got to be the saltiest pei pa tofu I've ever had. After one bite, I had to drink a few cups of tea. It was sooooo salty that we had to return it to the kitchen. Unless they change their premade tofu batter, do not get this because it is so salty that it was inedible. Deep Fried Stuffed Tofu: They replaced our pei pa tofu with deep fried stuffed tofu because they said the tofu batter was premade and there was no way to make it less salty at this point. The deep fried stuffed tofu, however, was not much better. It actually came out soggy and smelled a bit funny. The tofu itself tasted a bit sour and after further inspection, we realized that it was because of the stuffed shrimp inside. It was not fresh and had gone bad. We did not want to ask to return yet another dish to the kitchen that we just did not end up eating it. Soft Egg with Shrimp on Rice: Honestly, I never thought you could mess this simple rice dish up but somehow they managed to do so. It was overly salty and the soft egg "sauce" was really really really thick. They probably added too much corn starch that when mixed it felt like a blob. Sea Bass Tofu Casserole: This was probably the best dish out of the entire dinner course just because the saltiness was bearable. There was definitely more tofu than sea bass and the sea bass pieces were all bones. It came in a sizzling stone pot so a pro to this dish is that it is made fresh when ordered. This was one of our Canto standards for the past 5 months in Honolulu. I will not mince words. Short version: Deceptive business practices. If you come to eat here, be careful of the management team. Yesterday, we had a party to celebrate our daughter here and ordered an Alaskan King crab that the waiter told us was around 6+ pounds. We ordered it, and ultimately were charged 10 lbs (600 USD) which we discovered the next morning. When we asked the management about this charge, the boss accused us of lying to him, that despite my wife and father-in-law hearing the 6 lb or so weight, that since we'd already eaten the crab, there was nothing to talk about. We asked him to contact his waiter, but he declined telling us to find him ourselves. We noted next time we come; we would make sure we looked at the scale when the crab is weighed - he said he would not allow that for his customers. Additionally, in the festivities, my wallet was lost at the restaurant (I asked my wife if she had it (which she had misheard as "if she had her wallet", so I know I left the restaurant without it). When we asked them to investigate, the boss was extremely unhelpful and again, deceptive (I will spare you the details). The boss (Mr. Chen) also raised voices with my wife - highly unprofessional. We still have gift cards to this restaurant which leaves us a very unpleasant choice: 1) Use them in a place we've come to despise. 2) Or lose the value, and give profit to an uncouth and dishonest businessman? When we first arrived,before even entering the restaurant, there was this awful smell near the entry doors. I told it should be fine once we get into the restaurant, but to our dismay it was even worse. My daughter threw up in her mask because she couldn't handle the stench. We didn't even make it to our table before canceling our reservation. The smell would travel with us, like the restaurant hasn't been cleaned in so long, the floors were sticky and walking by other tables you could still see the yuckiness left from other parties. 0 stars for sure if I could. read more

We had steamed oysters, lobster two ways, garlic green beans, and Fried rice with egg white dinner for three was very reasonable. Service excellent. Great way to spend thanksgiving without the fuss. Plan to do this again!! read more

I must confess that when a wonderful Yelp friend suggested dining here I was hesitant, but I gave it a try with her and really fell in love with the lunch specials. I will trust her taste buds and if she really likes the duck from here, then lets go! During my recent visit this week, I took my mom to her appointment and was undecided on where to go for lunch, finally decided when I drove near Lobster King and thought of the lunch specials and it brought back memories of our lunch, when we had the look fun soup and the duck. Lunch specials are a great dining option here, which starts at 8.95 and they have a great selection. I always stick to the roast duck and the shrimp look fun soup with XO sauce. So I dined here with my mom and sent a message to wonderful friend, who then 30 minutes later, saw here walking in for lunch, what a nice and funny surprise! My mother and I shared the roast duck and look fun soup and it was more than enough food, we even had left overs. She really enjoyed the food and mentioned the shrimp look fun soup was new to her as she never had anything like that before. The shrimp look fun soup, such a big portion, filled with shrimp, snap peas, carrots, look fun, in a nice tasty broth, I loved the dried pieces of scallops, nice addition to the soup, also it comes with the XO sauce, made it so tasty. I love the softness of the look fun soup. The roast duck plate came with rice and choy sum, they forgot to bring out the plum sauce that day, and I forgot to ask for it. The duck was good, crispy, and had a lot of meat but didn't have the salty taste, which I miss. I enjoyed the soup more. Service we received was great, the waitress who helped us was very nice. While we were dining another worker was cleaning the next table with cleaning solution which I was a little bothered by it, but she was done just in time for me to say something about that. Overall, My mother and I had a nice meal here at Lobster King and I will be back again. I was glancing thru the menu and saw that they have a 19.95 lobster special, I must come back!! *just a quick note* I know I was hesitant to dine here because of the reviews and that I wasn't too crazy about Lobster King besides it has been so long since I last dined at Lobster King. I really gave Lobster King a try again by a suggestion of a Yelp friend & I fell in love. So you never know, give it a try for the lunch specials. I am glad I did. read more

This is an updated review from my initial visit in January of this year. During our last visit, the staff was so friendly and in a way too overbearing but what the heck right? I even commented to both of the servers how good they treated us and the one younger girl who is speaks excellent Cantonese and English exclaimed; well "its because we are not busy". When I arrived this visit, that same girl appeared not to recognize me and when I asked her for the table we usually sit at vs one right near the entrance, she begrudgingly allowed us. Even the other female Korean server barely laid an eye on us vs the last visit. I was disappointed that they did not have the 1 lb lobster special at $19.99 so we ordered other dishes. The sea bass tofu claypot (or hotpot) dish looked very good in the menu photo so I ordered it. This dish was $21.99 and when it arrived, it was nothing more than pieces of the base spine fish with just a little meat covering it. All of the pieces of fish was the same with a chuck of bones. I thought of bringing this up to the server but on our last visit, we expressed our dissatisfaction with another dish and she informed us that "well that's just how its made". The service was definitely not as attentive as the last visits but yet the place was not that much busier. I really don't mind spending more $$ at restaurants but there are things that are not acceptable such as bad service, skimpy portions and bad quality food which this was the case. read more

I read in another review it is Chinese food but Korean owners which is surprising cuz it seemed to be an old school Cantonese style seafood restaurant through and through in a good way. Which explains some of the complaints I read about abrupt or rude service which in my experience was actually good service for a Cantonese place. Signage on the walls were in Chinese and most staff and patrons were speaking Cantonese. My lobster yee mein with XO sauce was very tasty, large portioned and $31. I would get it again and ask for the sauce to be the ginger and scallion sauce next time. read more

Pretty good Cantonese restaurant with authentic dishes. I love their roast duck but their fried oysters don't taste very good. I'd go back and try their lobster. And their daily special seems very nice! read more

Used to eat here ever since I was a kid. My family went here yesterday for my dad's birthday but none of the food was freshly made. The lobster noodle, half of it was cold. The beef it was obviously microwaved and put on a sizzling platter (was not sizzling at all). Boss (idk if it was a Korean old lady) was also very rude, never said thank you when we left when she was at the door, but the servers were nice so we left them a good tip. Also very biased, the table next to us was a 16 party and all Koreans. They got the fresh hot food while most of the small parties got the cold ones. I personally would not recommend. I personally work at a restaurant and if I treated a customer this way, I would've immediately got fired. Over all, server was nice and sweet, food was disappointing, boss was rude and biased.
