Was finally able to try this place out after hearing my friends rave about it for so long. I ordered the Local Boy Special (LBS) and chose spicy ahi, kalua pig, & bbq chicken. For $2 more I got a piece of shrimp tempura. Their serving sizes aren't that big but I liked the variety of choices they offered. The bowl comes on a bed of brown rice so it's a healthier alternative to a regular sushi rice bowl. The spicy ahi was pretty good and the kalua pig & bbq chicken were really tasty. Overall, I enjoyed my bowl. They were out of smoked salmon by the time we got there which is what my boyfriend wanted so instead he ordered the lava bowl which was a spicy ahi bowl with pieces of shrimp tempura and avocado on top, drizzled with unagi and sweet chili sauce. It didn't taste that great IMO, probably won't get that again. A nice plus was that the bowls came with a drink as well. We ordered a piece of bread pudding for dessert and that was also really tasty. Overall pretty good experience, I would come back again to try more items on their menu. read more

I had the good fortune to find this place on Valentine's day while I was waiting to get my car inspected at Les Brodie's, only a block away. So instead of candy and cookies, I brought a Spicy Ahi Sushi pack back to Lex Brodie's. The guys loved it! Later in the week, I needed pupus for a gathering at Hoomaluhia Garden - Got another Spicy Ahi Pack and a second one that had spicy ahi, shrimp tempura, and avocado. Great food. Convenient location. I first heard about Local Boy Sushi from a friend and I think I have found my new favorite place to eat in the Kaneohe area; as someone who eats a lot of ahi poke, you can't get much better for the price. It tastes fresh and although the sauce used on the spicy ahi is very mild compared to others, it still managed to compliment the fish very nicely. I came here for lunch around noon, there was a short line but I was still able to put in an order within the minute. Local Boy Sushi is located in the same complex as Pah Ke's Chinese Restaurant and is found to the right of the stairs. This food establishment can be a bit hard to find since it's only a window which you order your food at (not a dine-in restaurant) but the sign can be easily spotted from the road, it is black with a red fish; after coming here a few times I've found that the service is superb, usually your order will be done within five minutes and that's if they're busy. My favorite thing to order here would be the local boy special, if you've ever had a poke bowl it is similar to that, except you may select three of the seven toppings offered; it also comes with a small drink. The options for your bowl are spicy ahi, smoked salmon, ahi poke, kalbi, kalua pork, smoked meat, or unagi. I haven't had an option I didn't like yet, and for under $10 you can't go wrong! Another favorite of mine is the bread pudding from here; it's simply a piece of bread pudding without raisins doused in a butterscotch sauce and it's a perfect thing to follow up a meal from local boy. After visiting a couple times to try out the different menu items, I can definitely say I will be coming here often in the future. I've been here only a handful of times so far and not once have I ever left disappointed with the service or quality of food. The employees are always friendly and make you feel at home, while the food is prepared quickly and the quality has been very consistent so far. The only criticism I have about Local Boy Sushi is their lack of a dining area; there are two tables out front but other than that you'll have to take your food somewhere else to eat. The food more than makes up for this and since this restaurant operates from a window, it is understandable. In conclusion, I would highly recommend Local Boy Sushi to a friend and will be coming back very soon. read more

I heard how amazing this place was and had to see for myself. It was the best sushi and poke I've ever had! And I've had a lot. 30 minutes later we are still talking about how much we enjoyed it. First was the Lava Roll that couldn't have been better: fresh spicy ahi with freshly fried hot crispy shrimp tempura and avocado. The chili sauce and ponzu tasted homemade. Local Boy sushi has in my opinion, has some of the best poke and spicy ahi on the island. The workers here know what they're doing. The ahi is always fresh and prepared to the highest degree. The flavor combos are comparable to that of other highly regarded poke places on the island. Another plus is that the cooks even take the time to cut out the sinew (the tough, white stringy part of the ahi). My go to choice is their LBS special which consists of 3 choices on top of brown rice and a drink for only $8. The choices are Ahi poke, spicy ahi, Kalua pig, smoked meat, unagi, smoked salmon, and Kalbi. I always get ahi poke, spicy ahi, and unagi which never disappoints. I've been here countless times as I live nearby, and it has never once disappointed. The people working here are also extremely nice and welcoming to all. I would highly recommend checking this place if you love poke or are in the area. Also, something that I've found helpful is that I always call 15 or 20 minutes ahead of time. I've been eating Mr. Lee burgers and fries since the 90's was exited to know that the new sushi place kept this on the menu but far from the same. Buns were hard and made from wheat I think patty was homemade but the size is a potato chip and the fries were fried in dirty old oil. Nice try guys but u need to step your hamburger game up! A few favorites: Smoked Salmon, a little skeptical when I saw nibblet's of corn mixed in, but they proved me wrong, I keep wanting more and keep going back for more. Kalbi- Cooked so perfect. Spicy Ahi- great amount of "SPICY" LBS Fruit Salad, I'm not a fan of Ling Hing Mui but will keep eating this tasty desert as if it's a meal of it's own. Bread Pudding - The taste seems very familiar. My BF had the rice bowl (brown rice only) with Ahi Poke and I had the combo rice bowl with Ahi Poke, Spicy Ahi and Smoked Salmon (like a tuna salad but way better with corn and onions). Blink and you'll miss this place. It's basically a little take out window located in the shopping center adjacent to the post office. Parking is really limited, but I supposed you could double park since you'll be getting your order to go anyways. Actually it's probably a great idea to call ahead so you won't have to wait 10 min for your order. The LBS with smoked salmon, big island smoked meat, and spicy ahi tuna was awesome and at 8 bucks, priced appropriately. If you're not in the mood for sushi, the deluxe burger although a bit small was really tasty. Great local find if you're ever in the area around lunch time. Last November I hired Local Boy Sushi to cater a small surprise party that I was planning for my husband's 40th birthday. I contacted them via their website, and within a few hours they had already called me back with menu options and a price quote. Although our party was relatively small (about 60 people) they totally went over and above to make sure things were perfect. Everything they made was absolutely amazing. Also, I LOVED the fact that they brought their own tables, table cloths, plates, chopsticks, and shoyu/wasabi. Their prices are reasonable and their staff is professional.
