Yes, I have heard of "hole in the wall" places.... this is literally, a hole in the wall. As in, an open window. No place to walk in. No place to stand. A couple of high tables precariously placed on the sidewalk that are always taken. Plan on ordering and leaving. Since we live in Honolulu, we drove around the corner and ate at a park. Food was good, but not a lot for the price. Next time, we will go back to Fresh Catch just down the street. read more

So happy to have found this little sushi spot. The fish was very tender and fresh (they do half orders for their sushi). I would recommend getting the big brudduh bowl (can't remember if I spelled that right lol). The only downside is that I wish it was a sit down restaurant. There are some tables to eat on outside. When I found out that lees drive inn had closed down I got really said, being born and raised in Kaneohe...lees was the spot! One day we decided to stop by and I learned that local boy sushi has continued to serve lees awesome burger and fries! I was super excited. We tried the smoke meat bowl, kalua bowl, and the bread pudding. I am a huge bread pudding lover and I have never tasted such KILLAH bread pudding. It was to die for! They warm it up with this super yummy sauce and it just melts in your mouth. As for the smoke meat bowl and kalua bowl, they were also onolicious! I don't head out to the Windward side too often but after hearing about this place from several friends, it was a good opportunity to finally go check it out after hitting a few balls at Bay View. We ordered two 3 choice bowls - one with the fish (spicy ahi, smoked salmon and unagi) and one with the meats - kalbi, smoked meat and kalua pig. Both bowls were around $8 which also included a small drink. I liked everything in the fish bowl. The poke was of good quality and seasoned well. The smoked salmon was ono and I could imagine myself watching a movie and just grinding on that and crackers all night. The unagi was really good too, and good portions. The meat bowl I liked a little less, but it was still good. The best was the kalbi. The smoked meat made me crave some beer cuz it was winnahs. The kalua, however, was just average. However, I liked all of the food in general and will definitely go back if I'm on that side of the island again. read more

Between the Valley of the temples and going to go to Ho'omaluhia botanical Garden we decided to get something to eat. We are unfamiliar with the area so we decided to trust fellow yelpers. Fortunately, they did not disappoint. Yelp had this place at 4.5 stars. I would give it five. My wife ordered a hamburger and I got the lava bowl and bread pudding. The hamburger was fresh and very tasty. Unfortunately my wife was not a fan of the unique sauce used on the burger but she did eat half of it. The bun was delicious and buttery. The lava bowl must be what they are known for, because it was the best. The rice was well cooked and tasted great with the tempura shrimp and poke. Good hole in the wall spot. Only ate here one other time due to business catering so yesterday was my first time actually going on my own. My husband and I were craving for some local food after getting off an 11 hour flight from New York and this definitely hit the spot. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable for the amount of food you get. I got the local boy special with three choices and loved the smoked meat and ahi poke. The guy at the window said the smoked salmon was pretty popular so I got that too but it was a little too smoky for me. The shrimp tempura add-on for a dollar is a steal and I love the fact that they include a drink. I love the brown rice concept but I think the bowls may be better if it were sushi rice. Mines was a little dry. Believe it or not I would come here just to get the bread pudding. Bread pudding is something I usually don't even like but for some reason the secret recipe they got going on here will have me driving from miles. read more

This is my first time here, I got the California hand roll, and the ahi hand roll and the junior bowl. The junior bowl usually comes with rice but since I was already getting rice in the hand rolls I didn't want any more but I wanted the ahi, so the lady at the front suggested a salad! She was so nice, it was my first time there and I was on my quick lunch break and the food didn't take longer than 5 minutes to be prepare for me. The rolls were delicious and HUGE! As for the junior bowl, the fist on top it's TINY it's probably a quarter of a quarter of a quarter or a small fish, but then again it was 'junior' so i can't complain too much. Over all I was satisfied! The only complaint I would really have is when I got to my actual food they forgot to put the dressing for my salad so I had to eat a tasteless spinach and greens mix lol, but no biggie, in the grand scheme it was all pretty good. read more

This is my go-to place for ordering sushi platters. Fish is always fresh, healthy-er brown rice, and love their smoked salmon items. Bowls are great for a quick lunch/dinner. If you get the chance, try out the Local Boy Special and choose the smoked salmon as one of the three choices you can make. Also, try the bread pudding!!! I got most of the flavor from the teri sauce they put below the fish. I also like that they give brown rice! Their poke wasn't much to rave about - the spicy ahi is kinda lacking in spice and flavor which is why I gave the four stars. But, it's fast, simple, and decently priced so I can't complain too much. Wasn't disappointed by theirs. Smallish burger, lettuce, sauce and mayo that oozes out - yum! My ahi was just the poke version, but a little spicy (I am a spice wimp), but the spicy one was noticeably more spicy. We both liked the smoked salmon, which is made like a tuna salad - which we were aware of by browsing others' pictures. Husband's unagi was standard. We also both liked the smoked pork, although a lot of fatty parts, maybe they're using belly meat? They were right about the bread pudding. The pudding itself wasn't too sweet, but balances out the buttery caramel sauce that it's swimming in. So good!
