Doesn't deserve even 1 star, but I cannot post without rating. I will neverrrr go back to this place. I sat at the counter and saw 2 servers touch food with bare hands. One server transferred hamburger from one plate to another with bare hands. Then he transferred 2 slices of toast from one plate to another. After I saw the first server do it twice back to back, I immediately reported it the Manager. The Manager said he talked to the server and he thanked me for bringing it to his attention. The mgr shower me the paper sheets the servers are supposed to use when handling food. The box of paper sheets was within reach on the counter. A few minutes later, I saw another server put the fresh cherry on the sundae with bare fingers. I immediately told the Manager and this time I said that something is clearly wrong here and this is not acceptable. He didn't respond and a few minutes later I saw him put a pair of thongs on top of the plastic container the cherries are in. read more

My first and likely only experience with Local Diner was very disappointing. When I was told corned beef hash was Hormel canned variety, I opted for the country potatoes. I've never met a potato I didn't like...until now. They were mealy and mushy little flavorless squares. Obviously, they were previously frozen, and not revived with hot oil or enough cooking of any kind. I can produce such a meal at home. When I pay restaurant prices for a cook, I expect the food to be fresh and good. read more

A classic diner breakfast spot in the heart of downtown Coppell. Going here always gives me the small hometown feel. This morning I had the Texan, an egg platter with bacon, sausage, cheese and potatoes. I opted to add red onions and had my egg cooked over easy. This is one of my favorite things to get when I come here. The mixture of all the ingredients is wonderful and so filling. This is an entree that you could definitely share. The service is always great and the servers are always friendly and make you feel like your a regular. Really love this place. Everything I've had here is really good! The burger is great, the chicken strips and chicken fried chicken are awesome! Great salads...etc. Today I tried the special, fish and fries, oh man! Some of the best fried cod I've ever had! My go to usually is chicken and waffles when ordering breakfast, this place did not have waffles. What good diner doesn't offer waffles? Ordered the French toast platter, scrambled eggs, ham. French toast was okay but not a lot of flavor, eggs were a bit dry, ham was unacceptable. Coffee was subpar. Service was satisfactory. The service was decent, however they served the weakest coffee I've ever had (seriously, it looked like tea lengthened with water), I think my meal was microwaved. Why? Because neither the food or the plate was hot enough for the cheese to have melted and dried out like that. It looked like the home made nachos I made as a kid. The food was forgettable at best. Found by chance and a quick search of Yelp. Went to their Coppell location first and their Irving one the next day. Both breakfasts were prepared as ordered, and the best part of both meals was their unusual Protein Stack pancakes. Made with gluten-free oats, yogurt and egg whites... they were delicious. Never have seen them before and need to keep an eye out for a similar recipe. Although both had very good service/pleasant staff, on the more negative side, food coming was a bit slower in Irving, and the atmosphere is a tad darker than in Coppell (maybe because Coppell is newer? don't know, but I was a bit turned off by the heavier 50's-60's attempt at nostalgia in Irving and preferred the more subtle style in Coppell). Would definitely go back to Coppell, even if further a drive. read more

This is the first review for the Local Diner in their new location. They moved from Belt Line last week, and LOVED the other location, and the food. Now they have a bigger location to handle more people. Two downfalls from first visit to new location, price increase for the food! Second problem, they ran out of pancakes on Sunday (ran out of pancakes? WOW). A group of friends and I went a few weeks ago and one of them found a fly in her French toast. Of course, we called over our server (who happened to be the manager) and my friend asked for a new plate. The manager proceeded to tell my friend to just eat around the fly, saying that she has no control of the flies in the restaurant, that if she wanted a new plate she had to pay for it. We were all three taken aback at this woman's rudeness. The fly situation is definitely my chief complaint, but another time I came I ordered the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and the fries cane out almost completely raw. I told my server and she came back with regular fries. That same time I went, my friend was charged almost twice what she had due to a significant accounting error where they charged her another tables check. Someone recommended this place to me. I wish I had ignored them. I was very disappointed with the chicken fried chicken. While the chicken was tender (I assume they brine the chicken), the saltiness of the brine plus the salty breading just made it unbearably salty. Thr gravy also lacked flavor.
