This place has a retro atmosphere... but their food is not as... memorable. I had the meat platter, hoping to get a nice protein + pancake breakfast. Everything about our breakfast here was delicious! The portions were generous and the price was right. The staff was also very friendly and helpful. My one complaint is that they gouge you on the drink prices. We ordered milk for our three kids at $2.45 a piece. A soda or coffee with unlimited refills was $2.30. I could have purchased a gallon and a half of organic milk for what they charged for 24 ounces of milk. Not even a pint. This seems completely unjust and unreasonable. Adorable throw back, charmingly decorated, sweet spot for brekky within walking distance of the Coppell Farmer's Market. Reasonably priced and a great assortment of morning goodness to get your day started too. Especially liked that they leave an insulated craft of coffee rather than waiting for someone to stop by and refill your morning Jo - and they do check on you regularly but the craft is great. On a side note, if not a fan of the tiny creams and prefer fresh milk, they'll bring some to the table, no charge. Which...really there's not much to look at in the area but if you just so happen to be around this would be a great breakfast stop before you hit up the Farmer's Market. The waitress was so friendly with southern hospitality, calling me 'honey' and 'sweetie'--yes I do like the terms of endearment. Anyway I've tried the protein pancakes which are made with gluten free oats and egg whites. So hearty! I can get full just off of eating half. Crispy bacon. Yummy egg dishes and omelets. If Local Diner is reading this, I will gladly upgrade this meal to 4 stars with a little kick on seasoning, home made tortillas, and a fresher salsa. EGG PLATE: 3 stars. 2 eggs, hash browns, biscuit and gravy. The staple of great breakfast diners. The eggs were fluffy. The hash browns were perfectly browned on the outside and soft on the inside. But the biscuit was a little thick (I prefer soft and buttery) and the gravy lacked impressive flavor. ATMOSPHERE: 4 stars. I know the decor is cheesy, but it makes the experience memorable. FINAL THOUGHTS: Local Diner gives you the local diner experience but with less local diner grease and cigarette smoke. Worst breakfast spot ever! Do not come here for the coffee! The coffee tastes like hot brown water. I ordered the Chicken Fried steak breakfast plate and all I can say is that someone needs to learn how to serve hot food! I had my eggs scrambled, and they were, but they were (at best) lukewarm. The hash browns were also lukewarm. The chicken fried steak was hot with hot gravy, but sadly both were not seasoned properly. Love this Coppell restaurant! Clean facilities and friendly wait staff make it a great experience. The food is good old fashioned cafe type food. My faves are the hamburger, the club sandwich, and the onion rings. The breakfast is also good. Be sure to try the hash browns. Mmm! I'd like to preface that two star rating by saying the reason we keep coming back is because my husband claims Local Diner has the best corned beef hash of any breakfast joint we've tried in the DFW, so if you're a fan of that particular dish it may be worth giving a shot. Otherwise, this diner has lots of charm with it's retro feel and great music, but not much else is notable. They've got your standard breakfast fare - eggs, omelettes, pancakes. Best Pancakes around! 3.5 It's a lovely cheesy, standard diner. But the pancakes won my heart. They were bigger than your face and made with a perfect just barely crispy crust on the edges, while soft and fluffy on the inside. It was pancake love at first bite. I really enjoyed my breakfast at Local Diner in Coppell and plan to visit again soon. The first thing I noticed was how clean the restaurant is and the decor has an old diner look. I ordered the French Toast Plate and it was very good. The bacon was perfect, fully cooked and crispy, but not over cooked. There was a large menu to choose from of both breakfast and lunch items.
