I came here with my sister on a Sunday night. It was one of the few places that were open. We wanted to eat somewhere a little intimate with some good wine selection. We parked around the corner not knowing they have 2 very small spots right at front. They have a huge outdoor patio, one covered & the other uncovered. We came during the winter, so it was a bit chilly. They had no room inside, so we opted for some covered patio seating with heaters and blankets. The atmosphere was great, the service was good. The food we both enjoyed a lot. My sister is vegetarian, so she chose a gnocchi mushroom pasta and I chose salmon with artichoke hearts. Both dishes were quite delicious. The menu does change around. We ordered a bottle of wine to share (Charles Woodson's Intercept Pinot) & it was quite tasty. We spent the night chatting and enjoying the vibe. I did knock off 1 star because my sister got violently ill in the middle of the night. Most likely food poisoning from here since we didn't go anywhere for lunch or breakfast & the rest of the family & kids were totally ok. The biggest disappointment of the night was the "lasagna". It was the soupiest, most flavorless mess I've ever eaten. Locanda that was not lasagna. It tasted like dough with tomato sauce poured over it. I mean look at the picture. I don't mind a little extra sauce but can I get some flavor and maybe some meat with that mess??? The venue is very nice with outdoor couches, a covered patio and a large indoor bar. Our waitstaff were lovely, young people. when we arrived there was only one other table full. our salad arrived quickly. it lacked flavor. in spite of the restaurant not being busy, we had to wait a long time for our meal, to the splint that the waitress came to apologize. when it arrived it was cold. the gnocchi and sauce tasted mediocre, as if they were store bought. with such an extensive and expensive wine list, the food should reflect it. we will not be going back nor recommending this place. Bar service was surprisingly rough. We had full service there, yet would have easily (and hopefully) better if we sat at a table. Our bartender must have forgot to put in our appetizer which was just the bread- we mentioned if it was coming out around 25 mins after ordering and he mentioned it "was on its way". It came out about 5 mins after our entrees- so we just had them take it back. He never came around to ask for another round of drinks and also forgot to bring over a soft drink that was ordered from the beginning. The wrong fish came out but at this point we just ate. I was there with my parents and We ordered the meat pizza, halibut- yet the Branzino came out, and the gnocchi. I liked the flavor of the gnocchi but it was drowning in sauce and it was very rich. He served us an apéritif as a gesture but didn't mention what it was and just dropped it down with the check. We ended up giving it to the guest next to us since neither of us enjoy since we didn't know what it was. I had two spontaneous visits to Locanda in one week! The first visit was because Simply Fondu was not open yet. I am a teacher and my friends and I wanted to have a celebration so we decided to go to Locanda while we waited. The service, atmosphere, food and drinks were so good, I decided to come back with my other friends for dinner. The second trip was the day after Christmas and it was not crowded and from the moment we got there to the moment we left, we had such an amazing time, I had to leave a review to say thank you to each person who made that night so special for us. What they did know is that we were celebrating my dear friend on her birthday. What they did not know is that she lost her mom a few weeks ago to a very long and agonizing battle with a rare cancer. I wanted her to feel like she had a wonderful birthday despite all the pain of not just losing her mom, but her best friend. She told me it was the best birthday she's ever had and I have to say, it was such a special time for all of us! If have not been to Locanda, it is not a meal- it is an experience! Thank you for giving us time to catch up as my friends came from San Francisco and Vacaville in the rain. We had a completely different plan for our day so it was such a pleasure to be treated so kindly. The food and drinks were amazing and it's just hard to explain how special each of you made all of us feel. If only all businesses treated people this way. Amazing time at Locanda wine bar from start to finish. Atmosphere and ambiance is cozy inside and out. We ate outside but within the enclosed area. It was a windy night and we felt nothing, they had blankets if needed as well. The food was nothing less than perfection. The braised short rib met all my expectations and melted in my mouth. My wife got their in house ragu pasta and it was phenomenal. Walked inside to use the restroom and the bar area inside looked fun with some charming tables around. The wine list was great and the staff were all polite and very attentive. We were there for a birthday party and the service was on point. A group of us came here this past weekend to celebrate a friend's big birthday milestone. It was scorching hot this past weekend in Livermore, so we were all prepared to eat and drink responsibly. Had higher hopes for this place, as I love the danville location. Stopped for dinner tonight and the service is trash. We had order a sprite 3 times and its still not right. They just figured out there isn't anymore sprite syrup, and "as a courtesy" they removed it from the check. At first I thought a gentleman at the table adjacent to us, was being a cry baby, but no really the service is trash. I usually order the gnocchi with the white truffle sauce. Would highly recommend the patio with the cooling mists off the ceiling on the hot, summer day (came at 108°F, and were comfortably seated, observing boiling downtown from chilled, well served spot). Great service, was slightly lacking decant knowledge, which we clarified on the spot with visiting owner of the local McGrail winery (Thank you Mark and Jes). Our server was very polite, knowledgeable in menu and dishes, and even spoke different languages, that surprised the guests. Missed the name, but got the guy on the "cover page image" popping the bottle of McGrail, that will proudly post. Appetizers Really served the need! Shout out to the 1.Prawns and 2.Ahi tuna spread (missed the names of dishes). Meat Pizza was something of the unique flavor as well. Didn't really appreciate the noodles as per your standards they should be semi cooked, and so they were. Not a big fan of semi raw noodles drowned in tomato sauce (personal taste). Dessert - yes! Especially the limoncello cake. Another good one was the variety of different mini-cakes on the platter. Don't know the names of the dishes, as our server was gracious enough to surprise us with the best dishes in the house. And so he did, and we Thank him for that! Super authentic restaurant. It is one of my go to's in downtown Livermore. The service is great. All the times I've been here our waiter/waitress has been super nice. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice as well. I like that there is an option to sit indoors or outdoors. I've tried the Bianca Ai Funghi pizza which is delicious, highly recommend. In my photo I tried the Cannelloni Della Mamma. It was so yummy but the portion was so small for the price. I think if it came with 1-2 more pieces it would be more worth it. I made reservations here because we were going to see a show at the Bankhead Theater. Made reservations in couple weeks in advanced. The restaurant is beautiful. Upscale and gorgeous. I was looking forward to eating here and treating ourselves for a lovely dinner. I love the lights and the outdoor seating is reminiscent of eateries in Europe. We were greeted and checked in by a host. He walked us to a high top. I was with my 75-year old mom. I asked if we can be seated at a regular table given the height of the table and chairs. "Sorry. This is all we have." (There were other tables. Maybe they were reserved but I would think you'd consider your customer.) My mom said it was fine. My daughter had to help her up the bar stool. But whatevs. They had a few cocktails to choose from -- all sounded delish! Hard to decide. I decided on the Furore because it sounded refreshing. My mom ordered a virgin margarita. The drinks arrived so beautifully prepared. But... my mom's margarita was soooo tart and mine arrived too sweet and tasted like cough syrup. They looked super cute in their glasses. No one checked to see how our drinks were. Sadly I think mine was also made into a virgin drink. The menu is simple. Not a lot of plates to choose from. All dishes all sounded delicious. We ordered: Fiori di Zucca Lasagna Della Mamma Rosa di Branzino The food arrived. I love all the lemons painted on the plates. The portions were not big. The zucchini flowers should've been an appetizer -- not an entree. They were good but that's a small dish for $16. The lasagna isn't your run of the mill oven baked dish with bubbling burnt cheese on the edges of your casserole. It was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing! Definitely could've had more. Wished it was a larger serving for $20. The sea bass was also fabulous! But $24 is a hefty price for a small serving with a handful of greens and cabbage. We were still hungry after sharing 3 dishes that we ordered another entree... Carpaccio di Carne -- I was sadly disappointed that this was not raw beef. It's supposed to be tender, raw beef. I should've read closer. It was thinly sliced Bresaola which is air-dried salted beef which tasted like prosciutto. It was not an entree but more of an appetizer. For dessert we ordered: Mango Panna Cotta Chocolate hazelnut layered cake (can't remember the name) Both desserts were mediocre. From where we were sitting, my mom was able to see the kitchen and how they prepared food. The desserts came out of a cardboard box, and the person preparing them would take a slice out of the box, place it on a plate, then drizzled whipped cream from a canister and dolled it up with berries and fancy syrup. Eek! They tasted as such. Not fresh. That's disappointing. Aside from the beautiful restaurant and location, I highly doubt I'd return. We came here for Valentine's Day and had a mixed experience. The service was excellent--our server was incredibly warm and welcoming, and it was clear that regulars love coming here. She had a very familial vibe, even hugging some of them, which added a nice touch to the atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food didn't match the hospitality. We started with the meatballs, but they lacked flavor, and the sauce was overwhelmingly bitter. My boyfriend's branzino was overcooked to the point of being chalky, and the potatoes tasted like they were frozen. My lasagna seemed to have the same bitter sauce as the meatballs and was quite dry--I couldn't finish it. We really wanted to love this place, and the service made us feel welcome, but the food just wasn't enjoyable.
