I opted for the 3 course meal that consisted of the deviled eggs, crab cake with mashed potatoes and hush puppies, and the creme brûlée - exquisite. I ordered two drinks and both were amazing, although I can only remember the one named Jasmine. Decided to celebrate one of my best friend's birthday here as part of our tradition. I was hopeful expecting to enjoy a great meal of seafood delicacies, but overall the experience really felt short. I think either the restaurant used salt to preserve the food, or the chef/cook was really off with the salt/seasoning for almost EVERY single dish that we had. The King Crab Legs were quite salty, and it was not the "fresh from the sea" type of salt level either. The Maryland Crab Cakes, though the size and shape were great, were quite salty that I had to doused them in the cream sauce to lighten up the taste. The Grilled Red Snapper was a disaster - my friend had to send it back to the kitchen as the sauce was salty to the extreme. The manager brought out the remade dish, and the sauce was of an entirely different color, and tasted much better. The table next to us also had to return their Red snapper, so I figured we were not the lone ones feeling tasting the saltiness in the dishes. The hushpuppies were okay. We also order the Oyster Rockefeller, but that was a terrible disaster - the taste of the topping of the oyster was horrid! Stopped by for a quick drink but just had to get those deviled eggs that I have not forgotten about since my last time here. 1. Where was the truffle?! Last time it was an explosion of truffle in my mouth. Today I just didn't taste the faintest bit of it 2. Did they squeeze lemon in? It was so sour and acidic. But what is Loch bar you ask? It's your favorite Raw bar with a giant whiskey selection, and even greater elevated gastro seafood pub. But onto the reviews on food and service. I think I call it story time with intricate details on the decor. Upgrading myself to guest has been an enjoyable experience because I don't have to deal with the hustle and bustle of the restaurant. Service is always great the moment I walk in and I'm usually not waiting too long for anything. Stopped in on my birthday just to treat myself and boy, was it worth it. I'll typically start off with oysters, which I normally get from the NE because they're more delicious than the gulf stuff that we have here. Move onto some crab poutine fries if I've a friend with me because it's rich, decadent, and super shareable. But what always has my heart are the crab cakes that they do here and at their sister restaurant Ouzo Bay. It's literally lumbs of jumbo lump crab meat and like nothing else. One of my biggest pet peeves is whenever you pay an absurd price for something like crab cakes and all you really get are fillers of breads and vegetables. It's literally the best in the city and I will definitely fight you for it. You really cannot go wrong at this gorgeous place and I can assure you that I return to this classy establishment because of how they treat me. We were celebrating a birthday Tabitha (and Tatyana) were intent on ensuring we had a good time which we did. We each had 3-4 drinks (Life on Mars, So Fresh So Clean, Bittersweet) and enjoyed them. The HH burger alone was worth coming back for. Brussels were dee-lish. Iberico ribs and crab toast we ordered seconds of. We were there for the drinks, but ended up getting pecan pie and shrimp (Weird combo I know) The drinks are very good! The bartender (Tim) was very attentive and never had to wait long for a drink. I liked the Pina Verde drink, its a good tequila drink if you don't like sweet cocktails. $1.50 gulf coast oysters, no complaints there. For light bites, my group ordered shells n cheese, hush puppies, gumbo, deviled eggs, moules frites, kampachi ceviche, and the loch burger. The best thing from the order was probably the gumbo. I went to celebrate my birthday with some girlfriends. We ate off the Houston restaurant weeks menu and since it was my birthday, I got a free dessert, but I also ordered the crème brûlée from the regular menu. The clam chowder and the crabcake Benedict were excellent. However, when I took a bite of the crème brûlée, I thought it tasted funny. So I took another bite just to be sure and sure enough it still tasted funny. I asked one of my girlfriends who is a professional baker to taste it. She took one bite and said that it was extremely spoiled. We reported it to the manager and he told us that the executive chef was also in the kitchen and they could see if the items were expired. He was extremely nice and friendly about the situation and when he returned, he informed us that all of the ingredients to make the crème brûlée were not expired. We went with a sampling of Martha's Vineyard and Chesapeake Bay (precise selection photo below). The oysters were delicious and fresh as can be. Highly recommend. For entrees, I went with the original flavored fried chicken and the wife went with a bowl of gumbo with a side of hush puppies. Free bread --Cobb Salad (5/5) - Their buttermilk ranch was good, we took out the blue cheese because yuck! Salad was pretty delish though, it was a big size and very lively looking. --Kampachi Ceviche (1/5) - The amberjack was pretty fishy. And eating it by itself without any wonton chips or something just tasted worse. Usually amber jack isn't fishy to me when eating at sushi places. They took this off the bill though which was nice. --Deviled Eggs (5/5) - Truffle flavored deviled eggs topped with bacon?! Yum! Can't go wrong if you love truffle and deviled eggs. --Grilled Oysters (4/5) - Butter and Parmesan overload. The oyster were tiny and some even had 2... made us think whether these were oysters from containers. Cheese was way too much. --Chesapeake Crab Dip (4/5) - Probably the only thing I ate most. I didn't taste the celery or carrots in there but not a bad appetizer to order. --Petit Shellfish Tower (2/5) - We really thought about getting the grand, but good thing we didn't. This was my second time here and I must say it was not as good as the first. We came for a somewhat early dinner at 5:30 on a Saturday night. Our appetizer came out before our drinks even though drinks were ordered first. It wasn't busy but we still had to flag our waiter down to place our food order because the manager decided to have a meeting on the floor in the middle of service. My chargrilled oysters came out at room temperature, which was very disappointing especially for the price, $20 for four when that will get you a dozen most places. Loch Bar is a relatively new bar located in the chic River Oaks Shopping District. It's right next to Ouzo Bay which is owned by the same company. Valet parking is available or, if you're like me, you can park in the complimentary parking garage and then walk over. I stopped by with some friends on a Wednesday evening on Halloween. While they do have food, and a menu that focuses on seafood, I stuck to drinks on this occasion. I was happy to find out that they had a couple of special fall cocktails so I tried one of those and then switched to wine. The bartender provided great service even with a pretty busy crowd. Loch Bar fits the vibe you'll see at most of the restaurants/bars in this area. Upscale opulence and an older crowd. I'll have to stop by again during happy hour to try their food too! read more

Located in the River Oaks District, the first thing that I love is that Loch Bar is open until 2 am.! Next, every night they have live music, Blues, Jazz ext. The interior is aesthetically pleasing, with burgundy tufted booths and towering orchids in huge mirrored planters. Beautiful lighting fixtures and candles on every table with the sound of jazz give me an upscale speakeasy vibe. The raw bar has stool seating and gives an up close look at the fresh imported seafood. The outdoor patio is beautiful with huge heat lamps to keep you warm on a cool, crisp evening. They offer everything from Miane lobster rolls, charcuterie boards, seafood towers, Maryland crab cakes, fried oysters, caviar, truffle parmesan fries, deviled eggs, and fried cauliflower to burgers. I haven't been to a restaurant in a while, where everything I've tried on the menu is good. The crab cakes are the best I've ever had hands down with huge chunks of fresh crab meat served with an amazing remoulade sauce they are definitely worth the $60 splurge. The parmesan truffle fries are deliciously pungent, and the fried cauliflower could literally be a meal on its own; it's so good, and it's a must try. Loch Bar is a must try! The gumbo was a kiss of well seasoned flavors. It was hearty, filled with large chunks of chicken with slices of sausage. The Cream of Crab soup is surprisingly tasty at first. After half of the cup, the cream and scotch start to leave an oily & weird after taste, not crabby, but one that neither crackers nor bread can erase (It kept coming back to introduce itself later in the evening) We then tried the oysters. The fried oysters were flavorful, but overly battered, so that you couldn't really tell there was oysters inside. (My mom made fried oysters & you could always still bite into oyster) In contrast the Oysters Rockefeller were superb: big bites of oysters, on the shell, covered and seasoned with parmesan & spinach. Service at tables is horrible. Bartenders great. Servers and Manager are idiots. Past 2 times there, the servers never came by tables and we had to get up and find someone. Past Saturday night, server took our drink order and never came back for 30 minutes. Found her again by bar and gave her drink order. 10 minutes later, the manager came by to take our order. He then came back 5 minutes later to get the order again, claiming we canceled the order. I said that's idiotic and he threw us out....2 couples that will never go back. They should treat everyone the same, even white couples. read more

Loved the live music and the fact that on Saturday at midnight they were still playing!! The signature loch bar cocktail was the best!! And we tried most of them.. They may have the greatest collection of Bourbon in town! The ambience was good and very open. You have the option to sit outside which is pretty valuable on a nice day. I didn't try the food as it was late already but I'll be back to try it! read more
