Let me start by saying that the owners are just amazing! They welcome you with open arms, it's like going home and being with family. Anything you need they will accommodate. If you are not fully satisfied, just let them know and they will make it right. If course, if you don't let them know then you are not giving them a fair opportunity to fix whatever the issue may be. Next, the ambiance... it's wonderful! Such a cute place with a romantic feel to it. The outside patio is just the cutest and a wonderful place to hangout when the weather allows. The bar offers a wide variety of selections beverages, including house made sangria which is the secret receipt of the owners mamita Next is the food. One of my favorite things to get when I'm here is their pozole. I'm Mexican myself, but this is one of the best I've had...I'm sure it's the delicious pork. While we didn't order the pollo encebollado last night, that and the arroz vago are also my favorites!! Last night I tired the arroz on pollo and it was yummy, their beans had so much flavor! Last but not least, the hubby and I celebrated 21 years last night and they had amazing live salsa music. My hubby was loving it as it took him back to Puerto Rico as we danced (he was born and raised there). We've taken several friends and family member there and they've all loved it too. This place is such a vibe! My friend and I went for dinner without knowing much about it, and we were pleasantly surprised! The restaurant wasn't too loud and the lighting wasn't too dark which was awesome. We each had a guava margarita which although strong didn't taste like guava. Our server was so nice! We had a couple of questions about what some dishes were and she was super patient explaining them! When we asked for hot sauce, she brought over 5 different types varying in spice! I had the arroz con pollo and my friend got the Puerto Rican special. The rice was so flavorful and the beans were sweet but in a fantastic way. The fried plantains were the perfect texture. For dessert, I had the plantain bread pudding - it was sweet but the plantain twist was very fun (it does have walnuts)! A neighborhood gem. The restaurant is located on a major one way street with only very limited metered parking spots available. My group of 3 is able to walk-in to get a table on a Thursday night. I've been wanting to try Lola's for a few months now. I was excited to finally experience it. Upon arrival we were greeted with an overwhelmed host and even more overwhelmed server. We were served water, then ordered our appetizers and drinks which took about 30 minutes to come out. We then ordered our food and considering what I said before in regards to them being overwhelmed, we let the clock run. It wasn't about until 45 minutes after the fact and people that arrived after us receiving their food and finishing it that we finally decided to cash out for what we were served and find another dinner. I know my people the Boricuas love olives it's just me that can't hang... salad was refreshing and the rice reminded me of grandmas cooking back in Dorado, PR. Husband had PR special $14 arroz con gandules, beans, maduros (swapped for tostones) he's not a fan of maduros we had some drinks too priced on the bill. Went for a Best Friend's Birthday. Literally everything we tried or shared was delicious. We had the Spanish Mussels, Cubano Sandwich, Pernil Nachos, Birria Tacos, Puerto Rican Special, Pastelon, and "The Dessert Trio" of Bread Pudding, Flan, and Horchata Cheesecake. This was an enjoyable experience. We requested an outdoor table. They sat us outside in a lovely courtyard behind the restaurant. They brought us menus and water and then they seemed to forgot about us. No one came to tell us about specials, to check on us or to take our order. One of our group members actually had to go back inside the restaurant to remind them we were there. Once a waiter came to our table, the service was great! The Sangria was tasty, but it had A LOT of ice. The Beef Empanadas were very good. The Birria Beef Tacos were incredibly delicious. And the flan was so creamy & tasty. The Birria taco shells were a bit flimsy, so it was quite challenging to try to dip them into the consumé while keeping the contents from spilling out of the tacos. The best Birria Tacos I ever had were served in a double taco shell to preserve the crispness of the shells for easier dipping. If they could serve them like that, they would be perfect! The consumé had a deeply rich, amazing flavor. And the beef was moist, juicy and flavorful even without the consumé. Overall, we had a good experience. We plan to come back again. read more

Lola's Lounge is a wonderful local family owned business. I went a few times when they were in Elk Grove but moved to Sacramento 5 years ago and was so excited when they moved downtown! Stopped here before heading to an event. Walked in and it was packed with people. That is always a good sign. Let's start with the food, it was very good. It has very good flavors, my wife said that her drink was "ok". A couple things that could improve, it was hot inside there. Probably because the open area to the patio and the front door constantly opening. The 2nd issue was that it took 45 minutes to get 2 tacos. Although they were good, that is way too long. We then ordered dessert, which wasn't very good as it seemed old. It took another 15 minutes to get the dessert. We the. Had a flag someone down in ordered to get iur check. When I used to work at an office downtown, I would order from this place frequently. The food is so ridiculously good! I didn't think it was possible to have good Puerto Rican outside of the East Coast (New York and Miami in particular) but they proved me wrong! The best dish was the Puerto Rican special with lechon and plátanos. Till this very day, I still crave it. I wish I was actually eating it right now! So I loved Lola's because it's so hard to find authentic Puerto Rican food or tapas on the west coast let alone Sacramento. I entered with my partner we were created by the only other person working tonight, I let her know that I was interested in ordering take out. It's important to note that at 7:14 PM today there was not one soul in this establishment. After handing me the menus I proceed to ask her what's on the Puerto Rican Platter this week (mind you it changes regularly) her response fried food and walks away. So I follow her to the counter and proceed to ask well what kind of fried food tostones, chiccaron, empanada what. She proceeds to walk away and answer my question. I've been living in Elk Grove for over 15 years and never had a chance to try this place. My friend suggested eating here and was excited to try something new. They have outside seating and coming in, I was surprised by the decor and the environment of an upscale restaurant. They have a full sized bar which has a couple of TV's as well as a live DJ. So If you are looking fo a quiet place to eat, this won't be the place to go to, well...unless you decide to eat on the patio. Our waiter came and asked what kind of drinks we would like. They have several selections of alcoholic drinks however we decided to stick with water. For our appetizers, we ordered the Barcelona Mussels and the Gambos Ai Aijolla. Never thought I was a big fan of mussels until I tried these! The herb wine, garlic & chorizo complimented the mussels very well. The Gambos Ai aijoll had shrimp, avocado, and sticky rice. The sweet chili was delicious. Very surprised about how flavorful both of the appetizers were. This made me excited to try my entree. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Tacos which came with black beans and cocount rice. The Ahi Tuna was a little bit spicy but it was delicious as it came with mango salsa! Sweet and spicy! The coconut rice had the same texture as the rice from our appetizer. I'll also add that all the dishes had very nice presentation, almost that of a Michelin rated restaurant. Patatas bravas: I didn't want to get this because I hate wasabi/horseradish, but my partner insisted and it was a good call. These were more like good country potatoes with cheese and a sour cream-like sauce. It wasn't spicy at all and didn't taste like wasabi so I was into it. I think it could use just an extra sprinkle of salt, but was a nice appetizer. Beef empanadas: This comes with 2 empanadas. Some of the best empanadas we've had! Beautiful flaky crust and tender, mildly fatty interior. Doesn't really need the aioli but was also good with it. Homemade chips: Great! Reminds me of homemade shrimp/rice chips (these aren't shrimpy, just reminds me of the almost fluffy and oily/fried texture). Paella: Hot mama. I've only had paella two previous times and it was terrible so I was really hesitant, but damn this paella blew our socks off. The rice texture kind of reminds me of a mix between the couscous at mendocino farms (thick, oily, luscious, chewable in a good way) and bibimbap (a little crispy/crunchy), but paella. Beautiful textures all throughout: soft onions, peppers, and tomato, chewy/crispy rice, and then the meat! Overall a little above my spice tolerance (but I'm a spice weenie), but would absolutely get again. Spice is balanced with the tomatoes and sweetness of the shrimp. All the meat was nicely marinated. The chicken reminds me of my mum's Chinese home cooking. Sangria: $12 a person, totally worth it. They give you sprite but it doesn't really need it, just needs some ice for take out order. read more

I was very excited to go to Lola's since the reviews seemed to be great. They have a beautiful patio and because they had live music as well, it seems like the perfect environment to enjoy the evening. However, I got very disappointed because since the very beginning the owner and who I believe was her daughter, they were extremely rude with the customers. More than once, they ignored us and even yelled or pointed at us because they were short staffed and couldn't handle the all requests they were getting. Obviously, and due to this issue they were late with the all the orders but really, what made it worst was the poor customer service. The way the waitresses were talking and yelling to the all the customers is a simply reflection of the lack of professionalism from the management. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE! Also, the food wasn't good at all and it was definitely not authentic like other customers are posting. I can't understand all the good reviews I've seen on this app, I just can't. I want to add that when the time to pay comes, they will automatically charge you for the tip regardless of the service received. I so wanted this place to be AMAZING!! I am a Puerto Rican native and was so excited to have a PR place close by! I was disappointed unfortunately. The drinks were great! Everything else was not the empanadas were off! I'm use to them as "Picadillo" n these had some weird red sauce to them. I ordered the pastelón which is one of my all time favorite dishes from our island. The plantains were not ripe enough so it didn't have the salty sweet taste I'm use to. The rice was basic n the beans were good but not great (I'm also use to pink beans not red beans) My husband ordered another staple favorite of mine the bistec encebollado. I'm SO glad I didn't order this for myself it was AWFUL!! It's suppose to be cubed steak but this was some nasty stew meat that tasted nothing like a bistec. The plantains were too fat n raw in the middle for my taste. I'm use to them crunchy n crispy! They were also late to the table which they wanted to comped but we ate them so we refused. The service was great the waiter was very nice n prompt to our request n order. Unfortunately I will not be going back. N in my opinion this is not the best PR food. All the tapas looked uninteresting so we ordered two platters which literally were the same thing. Same sides same meat pretty much. The food came out in like five minutes so we didn't have time to enjoy our cocktail. The food was SO salty we felt sick when we left. We love wining and dining.
