    Brown stew chicken
    Alan J.

First time here and as expected, the food here is very good. The brown stew chicken was very flavorful and chicken is dall.off the bone tender. Dessert tonight for us was a piece of limoncello cake that is also amazing. Soft, sweet, citrusy and so smooth to eat. The service is also remarkable. Grace is the epitome. Of gratefulness. The ambiance leans towards upscale. Very well appointed didning room.

Jamaican Jerk Chicken and sweet plantains

On the corner of an art deco building and with red velvet roped entrance path, Calabash was looking to be something special! It had been a long time since I had authentic Jamaican cuisine, so was committed to dive in! The waiter was calm but attentive, a bit nervous only because he asked us if this was our first time at the restaurant and he wanted it to be a "beautiful " experience. Plenty of options on the menu but I had to go for the traditional jerk chicken and some sweet plantains, a Jamaican Mule and my friend had the Red Snapper with Escovitch sauce and salty plantains on the side and a Ting & Rum cocktail. They started us with a fantastic hot soup that was so good I wanted more, brilliant spicing and flavor, bold and savory. The seating was comfortable and the reggae music was flowing, all hail the good vibes of Bob Marley 'Mon! The decor was modern and classy with cloth table cloths and real flowers made it feel pampered. The jerk chicken was very moist and perfectly cooked with a crispy skin rich with a spice rub and the sauce was addictive, strong and deep in flavor with some heat sting but not overpowering. The sweet plantains were also cooked to perfection, caramel ones and juicy, fresh and warm. The red snapper came as a whole fish layered in vegetables and some fantastic sauce that was light but just right to not overwhelm the fish.. the fish was top tier tasty and also cooked to still be juicy and tender but not overdone, and the salty plaintains were like giant hearty potato cookies, a great meal overall! Very happy to visit this new place and worth the trip to have a truly memorable meal! Definitely a repeat restaurant! The meals were sizable and expect most will be leaving with a to go box, the snapper had one side left and would be a whole meal, which they provided a nice tin container for! First class operation!

My dad and I came here for our Sunday daddy-daughter dinner date, and I can honestly say this was one of the best dining experiences we've had! The food was absolutely amazing--every bite was packed with flavor. The drinks were just as good and definitely didn't disappoint. They were strong, delicious, and worth every penny. While this isn't the cheapest place to eat, it's 100% worth the price for the quality of the food, drinks, and overall experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The interior design made me feel like I was dining in a luxury 5-star restaurant. It has such an elegant atmosphere while still feeling warm and welcoming. The service made the experience even better. Our waitress, Grace, was incredible. She was so kind and attentive, checking on us at just the right times without making us feel rushed or interrupted. LP, the manager, also stopped by our table to make sure everything was perfect and that we were enjoying our meal, which really showed how much they care about their guests. Overall, we had an amazing time, and I can't recommend this place enough. If you're looking for incredible Caribbean food, great drinks, beautiful ambiance, and outstanding customer service, you have to give this place a try. We'll definitely be back!

    Curry Goat and Rasta Pasta

PASS. This is the worst Jamaican food I've had. We ordered the curry goat, Rasta pasta, grilled jerk chicken and fried green plantains. Curry Goat - Very chewy and gaming. The gaminess from the go overpowered the curry and just the overall flavor. Also there was not enough gravy to actually taste it by itself. It's almost as if I got what was left at the bottom of the pot. Very sad curry goat is my favorite comfort meal. Jerk Chicken - Very very disappointing. One I was not aware that the sauce would be on the side. Then just give me small ramekin (like the kind get to go) for 3/4 pieces of chicken. The cook of the chicken was good but no seasoning once so ever. You literally relied on the grill to season your chicken and the sauce. The sauce was very disappointing never had I have I ever had someone give me Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce and call it jerk. There was nothing jerk about this dish ONCE. SO. EVER. Just grilled drum stick and a thigh at regular BBQ sauce. Plantains - Dry and NO Rasta Pasta - Just plain noodles, plain cheese sauce with a couple peppers. I had to use what little sauce I had from my curry goat to season and moisten this dish. Call me spoiled, I'm new here, born and raised in Chicago where we jerk EVERYTHING in our sleep and lived in NYC have the pleasure of having very close Jamaican, Trini and Haitian friends. Maybe this place cater its authentic flavors and recipe's to their location and demographic...IDK but there will be no second chance from us. It just seems like someone had Caribbean food for the first time on a resort or cruise and decided to open a restaurant. Or maybe takeout they don't care what they put out.

My husband and I walked in and the place was nice and clean. The waiter was in the back and came out and told us to sit wherever we wanted. As we sat, he came out with water. He was very personable and friendly.. We placed our order.. Food came out hot and delicious.. Waiter gave us a complimentary pumpkin soup.. it was good. We also had a pine and ginger drink (non-Alchol)! It was delicious I would definitely return......

Don't pass this place UP!!! From my time spent in Jamaica and St. Lucia, this is the only restaurant that comes close to the island flavors! The staff were wonderful, polite, and absolutely professional. The place is warm and welcoming and very upscale. We couldnt wait to dig in. What we had: Curry chicken with rice and peas - phenomenal dish, curry chicken was bursting with flavors and the rice and peas were a perfect compliment . Chefs kiss! Fried chicken and Mac - Fried chicken was a huge portion that was fried to perfection but yet still juicy! And the Mac and cheese was smacking! We will definitely be back! And we're bringing the crew!

    Oxtails with macaroni & cheese

The ambience was pretty chill with the Jamaican music playing in the background. The complimentary soup was very good and full of flavor. The jerk wings were fantabulous in flavor and were perfectly seasoned. The oxtails were out of this world. The macaroni and cheese was off the chain, and the plantains were incredibly delicious. The pina colada juice was very refreshing and had the perfect level of sweetness. For dessert, I had pistachio cake, which was simply amazing. Without a doubt, the food was made with love. Many blessings be to this fine establishment.

This is a new business and I will say that the food is really flavorful. It's absolutely amazing. The aesthetics is really nice. It's really pretty. the staff is very friendly. The only thing I can say is I would give them another chance. It took a really long time to get our food, they were having an event and it's a new business so I would give them another chance. I am gonna go there again

Most recently, I tried the Pimms Rangoon (Gin, Ro Pimm's, fresh lemon, ginger, pineapple, fizzy water) and a wine that I can't recall. The cheeze whiz (house made whipped manchego and parm on crostini) is a must-have. The bread is wonderful as well as the cheese and olive. If I lived a little closer, I'd probably drop by more often, but I'll keep this place in mind when I want a drink and a small snack to go with it (and dessert at Ginger Elizabeth is next door!).

This hidden gem offers an experience that's unlike anything else in the city. The setup is simple but charming: you literally walk up to a window and order your wine. I believe it's one ring for white, two for red, and three or four for sparkling--don't quote me on that, but it adds a playful, old-world vibe that makes the whole experience memorable. The Wine Window is affordable, laid-back, and surprisingly quaint. It's the kind of place where the ambiance, the people, and the energy make it feel more like an experience within an experience--not just a drink stop. I had the chance to chat with John, the owner, who shared a bit of the backstory. He previously owned a full wine room nearby, but when the pandemic hit, he had to pivot. Instead of calling it quits, he leaned into a smaller, more intimate concept inspired by wine windows in Europe. Honestly, I think the scale makes it even better. The outdoor patio is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine while people-watching on L Street, and yes, there's even a restroom available (a rare but very appreciated amenity for this type of setup). If you find yourself downtown, do yourself a favor--swing by The Wine Window, have a chat with John, and enjoy a unique Sacramento experience.
