The deliciousness that is Lola's is BAAAAACK!! They reopened tonight after the lock down for outdoor dining and I immediately ordered to-go. And wow was it good! We got a favorite. The Paella. SOOO damn good. Honestly, I think the rice is the best part. It's so flavorful, moist, and delicious. And it's a bit spicy! Which I love. All the seafood and chicken are perfectly cooked, clearly indicating their chef knows that certain items cook at different amounts of time and carefully cooks each item the right amount of time so it's not rubbery or dried out. The to-go container is large and full and had nice myer lemon slices to squeeze on top. We got the special of the night which was the paella, 2 empanadas and 2 sangrias. I love Lola's sangria. A pet peeve of mine are places that use crap red wine and think you won't notice. Well I notice. And I love that I can always count on this sangria to be vibrant and lush with great flavor. The empanadas had a rich, meaty filling. Beef I think. Perfect pastry around a slightly tangy filling. What's not to love? We finished up with the horchata cheesecake. I'm a huge cheesecake fan and this one is delicious. It had a real berry topping on it. Not some weird thin whisper of a sauce, but a real, tart blackberry and raspberry fruit topping. I'm not sure I would say "oh the horchata flavor stands out!", but it's delicious regardless and has a nice light texture to it. Overall, it's nice to have this Elk Grove gem now in my backyard near Tower. And the staff are so friendly and genuine! If you miss people (and who doesn't? There was no communication from our server regarding the wait. We finished our food and waited for our check but it never came. Left plenty to cover the food that was barely even edible and got home with just enough time to make MYSELF a Cubano that was 10x better (and took 30 mins less) before I had to head in to work. Very disappointed in this restaurant. As a puertorican, i was really looking forward to trying out this place since there's not a lot of puertorican establishments in Cali. They have the vision--They're outdoor patio had a great vibe and their live music was good! However, from the very beginning the staff treated us very poorly. To begin, we had ordered drinks and our waiter took more than an hour to bring those out to us and he only brought them out after we asked what happened with our drinks. Our server was either not paying attention or something was going on with the kitchen, but the same thing occurred with our food: We ordered, it took more than an hour and when we confront the waiter asking about our food, he says they hadn't even made it yet so we told him to forget about it. THEN he brings out the food even though we had told him not to. As someone who was a server before, the service in this place was 0/10. It was either that they did not want to serve us or these people were not properly taught how to serve ‍ And this isn't even mentioning that the food here was awful and not authentic at all. So if you're looking for SOME authenticity, this isn't the place for it, which is sad to say since the owner is puertorican. not only did they suck in terms of serving, but there was one girl who seemed like another server who would yell at one of our group members to move out of the way very rudely, and when we spoke to the owner to figure out a solution so that we could be out of the way so the servers could pass by (Their tables are so horribly organized so if it gets packed like it did when we went, there's not a lot of space to move around), the owner did not try to accommodate us and it took multiple times to get her attention because she would ignore us as well as the girl server and our own server even when there was space in other sections of the patio and dismissed us very rudely. They wouldn't buss the other tables and accommodate us, even though they could see we were clearly uncomfortable in the spot THEY sat us in. So, to the owner who reads these, your service sucked and you are the worst representation of puertoricans and the hispanic community with how rude and ill-mannered you treat your customers. Your staff was unprepared and that is on YOU as the owner to manage your employees to provide good service to those coming to support your business. Not all of the staff was bad, some were decent, but between the owner's bad attitude, her daughter's attitude, and our waiter's incompetence the whole night was totally ruined. The least you could've done was apologize for the treatment we received. Personally, that's what i would do if i owned a small business and had my own people coming out to support it, but i guess some people like the owner and her staff are incapable of that as well. ALSO, they still had the audacity to charge us without our consent for a TIP while still asking for another tip on top of that, which i don't know how legal that is here in California, but where I used to serve, that's called theft. It was ridiculous. Food is awful and way too expensive for the portions they give out. The beef empanadas were delicious, had a crispy outside and the inside was packed with flavor, it was sweet and savory. The paella was what fell short tonight, it was a bit bland and at first we didn't want to say anything about it so we just asked for the tab because I'm not one to make restaurants take it back and etc. but then the servers were a bit concerned and had asked us and so I said to be honest it was a tad bland, then a very nice lady came over and told us it was because they were training a new employee to make Paella and that was his first time. I love that they told us the truth after finding out we didn't like it and also refunded the paella and also gave us a complimentary cubano sandwich because she did want us to leave hungry! Out to this place for the first time during COVID operations and was able to sit outside on the patio in the late afternoon. They we're super quick to turn on a heater so we wouldn't get cold and turned it down when we got too warm. The food was amazing! I highly recommend the chicken tacos and the border burger. I love a Spanish themed restaurant with an emphasis on tapas. If you find yourself hungry and you're near Old Elk Grove, this is where you need to be. Especially if it's Happy Hour on a laid back Sunday Funday, where the discounts are on not only the drinks but the food as well. Eat, drink, and be merry here for a really good value. The vibe is cozy restaurant meets lengthy bar. Small plates, flatbread pizzas, and good brew. Bonus for all of the vegetarian and vegan options done well. We started with the Queso de Cabra which was delicious if you appreciate goat cheese and tomato (we definitely do). It had a nice balance with the crispy crostini it was served with. The hummus was also really good- and as someone who routinely makes hummus at home this held up to my expectations. The chipotle puree added just the right amount of spice and I was relieved that they served it with pita bread instead of chips. As they're known for those flatbread pizzas, I ordered one to munch and take with me. The Fuego Asado was awesome. Who doesn't like cilantro pesto on a spicy, cheesy pizza? Definitely worth it. By other reviews, slow service has been a problem here. For us it was a relaxing Sunday evening and they fortunately weren't too crowded. This was lucky because the bartender was our server too and had to run back and forth. We weren't in a hurry, but had they been busier I could see where this would be an aggravating issue. Lola's was so festive when my niece and I walked in. Our table was ready and for us in a perfect spot. We are so stunned at the delicious menu. I came to Lola's lounge for second time on Thursday after work with a couple of friends because the first time was such an excellent experience. The ambience is so classy with the burgundy drapes and exposed brick walls. Apparently the restaurant owner has completely renovated what was once a brewery with dark walls. The main dining area is separated from the bar by a wall that has large cutouts which gives this room an open feel and keeps you indiscreetly connected to the bar area. The decor is classy but not in an uptight kinda way. There are little white lights which adorn the walls, beautiful potted plans and copper panel ceiling. The deep burgundy, and rich dark wood with black trim gives this place a sexy gothic feel. The wine and beer list is excellent and the happy hour prices are quite economical. I had a refreshing Prosecco split since it was so warm outside. And I was delightfully surprised to find out that the sparkling wines were included in the happy hour pricing. I ordered the hummus and chips to share with my friends as an appetizer. And I must mention that if you like hummus you've got to try this. It is made fresh with just the right amount of spices, and it was smooth and creamy. For my meal I ordered the corn chowder. Initially I had ordered a different soup but was told that the chef was making changes to their menu and the chowder is a new item (not on the menu as of yet.) All I can say is the the flavor and spice of Lola's corn chowder is off the hook.... This amazingly delicious chowder has quinoa in it as well as a delicious blend of spices which result in a buttery comforting deliciousness. I had been wanting to check out Lola's Lounge for some time since it replaced the former Elk Grove Brewery. Finally, I was able to encourage Joe K. to accompany me to a UYE that was being sponsored by Chris C. who happens to be an Elk Grove resident. This notable building is located in an older, more historical part of town on the also historical portion of Elk Grove Blvd. This street has expanded exponentially with time, but this section of road has remained as a narrow, two way street, with fast moving traffic or just dead slow during rush hours. Finding nearby parking is always a challenge when businesses are in full force. It's not a street that I'm particularly fond of driving on! However, I AM fond of the shops, bars, and restaurants that occupy this same street. During our private "unofficial" Yelp event, we were given the VIP treatment and acknowledged as special patrons in a reserved section of the bar. The food menu has some delicious looking options that made choosing difficult, but Joe K and I finally settled on two dishes: Joe got the Bocadillo, which is a Cuban Pork Sandwich, chipotle sauce, pickled veggies and accompanied with sweet potato fries. I ordered Fish Tacos that came as a crispy fried cod, mixed with sweet salsa, pico de gallo, and red cabbage, on 3 double wrapped, street style corn tortillas served with limes. Both meals were outstanding in both flavor and cooked to perfection! I also had my usual Tequila Sunrise that hit the spot as well! We had a very enjoyable evening with fellow Yelpers, just as we always do! Seeing old friends and meeting new ones was another expected UYE highlight. So, what does one do with themselves when they know they will be in the Sacto area? I don't know about you, but I threw out an invite for a few Sacto Elites to meet me here at Lola's for an UUUYE. I arrived just as the doors opened and made my way inside to what appeared to be an historic building from the outside. As my eyes dilated to the dimmer interior light, I scanned the room. Just as my eyes returned to normalcy, I saw Lucy M. sitting at the bar enjoying a glass of wine. And since the social code of chivalry teaches us (gentleman) to never let a lady drink alone, I had to join her with a wine for myself. While chatting it up with Lucy, another friend who lives in the area arrived. And after introductions, we were ready to order some food(s). I left it to Lucy to hook it up since she was the resident expert. As she ordered, I did my usual stroll around Lola's. To my surprise, Lola's interior is a lot bigger than it appears from outside. I saw at least two separate dinning rooms plus, they have a really nice patio area for those hot summer valley days and nights. As the food arrived at our table, myself and Lucy weren't shy about reaching over one another to sample the goods. As each item hit our mouths, nothing and no one inside Lola's was louder than mine and Lucy's uums and awes. Of course, Lucy's uums were louder than my awes. But she'll tell you different. After seeing pictures of the food, I wanted to come here. The place is located in Old Town Elk Grove. There is a small outdoor patio at the front and a bar inside with televisions. If you want to listen to live music, then go on a Thursday. My friend and I started with the grilled asparagus. I liked the aioli that accompanied it. For my entrée, I had the Brazilian churrasco steak with cilantro rice and cream corn salsa. I asked for it medium rare, but it came out medium well. While it had good flavor, the meat was chewy. The rice was wet. My friend had the bocadillo (Cuban pork sandwich) with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was tasty and I liked the grilled bread. The fries were a bit burnt. We both cleaned off our plates though. We even had room for dessert. She had the boca negra (flourless chocolate burbon cake with chocolate ganache). It was too rich for me. I had the horchata cheesecake with blueberry reduction. The top was sprinkled with cinnamon. I liked it, but could do without the blueberry reduction. We decided to give this place a try since it was closer and had decent reviews. As we walked in it was very festively decorated with Halloween decorations!! They went ALL OUT!! There was also a group of twenty celebrating. We did not have reservations but they were able to sit us down right away. The tables seem small and close together. We ordered the Mofongo and it had a strong vinegar taste to it. The Puerto Rican Steak special ("Bisteak"), taste like canned food. It had no flavor to it, very bland. The save was the live entertainment, the Tostones, drinks and the beautiful establishment. The two waitress for our table were very nice too. This place is nice, I have watched this building evolve in the last 15 years from several different types of eateries and watering holes. Lola's by far has done the best job with decor and ambiance. The evening I went in it was raining and so I was bummed out I didn't get a chance to enjoy the patio area, but I will save that for my next visit. I will start with saying I am a huge fan of Moscow Mules, so of course I had to try their spin on it which is the America Mule, and unfortunately it kind of strays too far away from a Moscow Mule for me. My drink came shaken with lime juice, Tito's, and ginger beer, but I was expecting something on the rocks with fresh lime. When the drink arrived I was optimistic, but it was too martini-esque for my liking. My favorite item off the menu was the PATATATATATAS! with extra aioli on the side if it wasn't for this item I would have left highly disappointed. The Mariachi was okay, the tres queso was okay, the hamburguesa was okay. Lastly Erik our server did a great job making sure we had everything we needed, and was eager to let us sample beers if we were unsure about ordering.
