After seeing the great reviews from Yelp, I decided to take my parents to Lola's before I flew back home. Growing up in Glendale, I've always loved eclectic food therefore wanted to give it a shot. The bread and sauce were the only thing that was good. My parents ordered the Saltado de Camarones and Pescado a Lo Macho while I ordered my all time favorite, Lomo Saltado. Both the seafood dishes were super salty and rubbery; seemed as if the fish and squid were frozen. The Lomo Saltado was extremely chewy which was such a disappointment. I've been waiting to write a review for a while. I'm the type who will always give a spot a few chances before choosing to opt out for good. Today is the day that I'm done supporting this restaurant. The food is decent but you can find better within a few miles radius. The service however is consistently bad. I'm very low maintenance, i'm laid back, but the wait staff is just ALWAYS laggy and rude. I've been here 10-15 times out of pure convenience (gym is a block away, ceviche is good protein) but today i'm done. The waitress today (gave me the name Thelma. She's there on weekday mornings) was extremely rude and unwilling to acknowledge a mistake she made when servicing us and another table. A simple apology or acknowledgement would have sufficed, but instead we were met with attitude. She was so rude that our party decided to get up and leave. A lot of the negative reviews here are about service. if Lola's is so well off that they are allowing their employees to push away their customers then I don't wish to continue to support this restaurant any further. read more

Cute restaurant in mid Glendale. I don't think there is anything wrong with this place except that the expectations were not in line with the reality. The portion size is quite big though so you will get a lot of calories. Staff is awesome. We were next to an annoying diner who directed the waiter to keep adjusting the picture window's blinds (keep in mind that this diner wasn't even sitting next to the window). She effectively shut down all the other diners' views (the ones who in fact *were* sitting next to the windows). He kept adjusting it until Prima Donna was satisfied. The food here is very good, but it's the customer service needs to improve 10000%. I went here for lunch and as our food was placed in front of us, my friend saw hers had a hair sitting right on top of hers so she immediately told the gentleman. He took it back and said sorry.. that was the last of the apologies... they just kept saying oh they're gonna bring out your new plate... but not a "I apologize again" nothing. Then...our bill comes...and she was charged full price .. i mean no one was looking for a free meal but as a food business that relies on experience and word of mouth and such to have your customers come back or to recommend your establishment to others, I would think you would've offered to not charge her meal or better yet, give her a discount or something. I mean it's not a rule that you have to give a free meal but it's just common customer service..... but I don't think we would come back again... Had lunch there with a friend today and this is what I thought. The service was outstanding and the staff was nice, attentive and knowledgeable. I'm not going to say I was too impressed with the Lomo Saltado tho. I had the Peruvian corn appetizer which I thought could have used a bit more flavor as the corn was pretty bland and was in desperate need of mayo or some parm el otte style. The steak lomo was okay, the meat was kind of chewy but I think if the cut it thinner that problem would be solved. The over all flavor just wasn't there. On a more positive note my friend loved his woodfire cooked chicken, I tried a piece from his and that too was missing flavor. I think this place has great potential if they revive the flavours a bit. The sitting area looks a lot better in pics but I have to say it was clean and neat. This little spot is located in downtown Glendale on Brand Blvd, near the Alex Theatres. A perfect spot for an afternoon meal or to catch up with friends over food. During lunch they have a buffet that will allow you to sample their many different offerings, which is a good way to get a feel for peruvian cuisine if it's your first time. The staff is very friendly and they have indoor and patio seating. The Ceviche here is very good and I highly recommend it! They have about 5 different combinations, all which are good. Everything was fresh and there was plenty to go around. From fish to squid, octopus and mussels they were all delicious. The Saltados here are okay, but I wish the flavors were more intense and profound. Definitely a nice stop for a quick bite. read more

This is, overall, my favorite Peruvian restaurant around.....more flavorful and better priced than Mamitas. They offer a reasonably priced lunch menu during the week that is filled with flavorful and scrumptious food. If you are not there during the lunchtime, order the Arroz con Pollo...AMAZING....AND, you can share it! It's big enough to feed at least two! Their chefs have a way with flavor. Peruvian food is quite definitely the best cuisine on Earth and I am lucky to have Lola's close by! The waiters and waitresses are very friendly and helpful. I normally love Pollo Saltado (stir-fried chicken with french fries, onions, tomatoes over rice). I ate it here a few different times, and it was pretty good. The last time I ordered it here however, I took a few bites and the chicken tasted a little weird. I looked down at my fork and I could clearly see that the center of the chunk of chicken was RAW. Not undercooked, not a teeny bit pink, but full on I am going to get salmonella RAW. I have been unfaithful... I cheated on my beloved Mamitas and fear she will find me out and never offer me her delicious, juicy, saucy Pollo Saltado ever again. Seeing some unsavory reviews about Mamitas (another tiny Peruvian joint down the street), The Husband, Papa and I decided to give Lola's a try. Lola's vs. Mamitas 101: First of all, we must have driven by like 18 times. It's pretty tiny and smushed in between retail stores (can't say any different for Mamitas, though). Inside, however it was a breath of fresh air compared to Mamitas' cramped and sometimes sweat-inducing close quarters. The bread and spicy jalapeno sauce was pretty much the same, although I'd have to give Lola's half a leg up on that one - theirs was much smoother and didn't totally knock my palate on it's butt. Now, I am a Pollo Saltado fan and Mamitas wins hands down, no questions. Lola's was tasty, but a bit on the dry side. The potatoes were huge, and the chicken scarce, making it hard to get a yummy bite of everything all at once (I want it all, you know). It was missing the best part...the juice. The yummy, salty, bits-of-garlicky juice that flows into the bottom of your white rice and soaks and soaks waiting for your eager fork. It was missing that. The chicken was also a bit on the dry side (which is a bummer considering one review complained about raw chicken...can they get it somewhere in between?) The Husband got the beef version and complained of almost the same exact things. We were also bummed to have missed the rotisserie chicken we had heard glorious things about (spanking Zankou and all). Lola's does have the edge on service, but let's face it folks - you aren't going to a Peruvian hole-in-the-wall for the four star service...are ya? All in all, it was tasty enough. We weren't totally bummed leaving, and had we never had Mamitas, we may have been happy. I've decided that if Mamitas took their food to Lola's space, it might be the Peruvian marriage made in Pollo Saltado heaven. read more

Food is very salty, but staff is very friendly and the ambiance is nice. Parking is limited to metered street parking or you can park at the parking structure on California (first 90 mins is free). Some dishes that we've tried were: Aji de gallina: you can't really go wrong when you order this dish. However, their rendition of this popular Peruvian dish is at best passable. The chicken is a bit dry and it needs a little more sauce. Lomo saltado: lots of flavor, nice and tender steak. Make sure to eat it with the plantains or it might be too salty. Pescado a lo macho: my favorite part about this dish is that even though the fish is fried, it still tastes pretty healthy and not soggy even after it's been drenched with the red wine sauce. The rest of the plate is covered with calamari, mussels, and shrimp. Arroz con mariscos: think paella. The rice and mussels were cooked perfectly. The sauce is very similar to the same sauce they use on the pescado a lo macho. Plantains: best appetizer here. The price is a bit steep for $5.99, but this is the best appetizer on the menu. Pasta with basil sauce: I forgot the exact name on the menu, but if you mention this dish to any of the waitress they'll know. This is probably the best dish on the menu. It's not too salty and the pasta is cooked perfectly. Also, they don't overwhelm the dish with too much sauce. Chica morada: too sweet and too much cinnamon. I wouldn't recommend it here. RECOMMENDATION: Some of their menu items are bit steep, so make sure you take advantage of their 20% off coupon when you check in via your pda or grab a gift certificate from restaurants.com. This is also a nice date spot. Just make sure to drink a lot of water or wine since their menu is very salty! read more

Took my family here on a Groupon to try some new cuisine. We tried a bit of everything..Beef, Chicken, Seafood, Corn appetizer. Native Peruvian fruit type drinks were delicious and the service was good...but the FOOD..I would have to say just average...all the meat dishes were a bit salty..the potatoes seem a big soggy...just not impressed for the prices they charge. It satisfied the urge to try something different, but it will be a long while if ever i go back. Some people say maybe it was an off day, but you know for a restaurant there should be no such thing. Tried this place for an early dinner and ordered the beef lomo saltado (cooked with fries, tomatoes and onions) and the calamari. I though the beef was cooked good, tender, seasoned right, had a good sauce to it and the fries was cooked perfectly. The calamari was crispy on the outside and tasted fresh in the inside. Overall the food was good and will probably go back again. My only gripe is the prices are a little higher than the regular Peruvian restaurant I go to in Glendale(Mamaita's) and found the service a little slow considering there were very few customers the night we went. The food here is really good. I have not had too much experience with Peruvian food, but everything is fresh, hot and delicious. I normally go during lunch with my coworkers so I can't really comment on the hours or dinner crowd. They have great lunch specials under $10. Let's start by saying the complimentary bread they put on the table is amazing. I can eat that bread alone and would be satisfied. It is always warm and has this unique garlic butter flavor. Even if you're not a fan of carbs or bread you need to at least have a bite! I normally get the pollo Saltado. Chicken served with rice and fries. It's a heavy carb meal, so don't plan on eating this 3x a week. It's a good treat once in a while. Overall service is good, staff is attentive. I've never really felt rushed, but sometimes we remind the waiters we're on a lunch break and need to head back to the office... Basically rush our food! Dropping a star for the layout of the place. Tables are so close together that you feel like you are apart of someone else's conversation. read more

Just left Lola's tonight and the service was incredible! My two friends loved their food. I wasn't too happy with my breaded chicken and requested it be sent back. The staff was so kind and gracious about it hence the five stars. The woman that seated us and the one with the stunning eyes that were our waitress (forgot her name) were exemplary. We got a pitcher of sangria and it was great. I also tried the cookies and sorbet brought by our waitress and they were so yummy! The first time I came in, it was with my bf on a Saturday afternoon, and it was completely empty, even their staff were missing. So, I decided to come back for dinner, instead. Went on a Friday night with a friend, for girls night, and it was close to 6:30 ish, it was pretty empty, but I was determined to try this place out! Was recommended by the friendly waitress that the Rose wine would be ideal for me, since I prefer white/semi-sweet wine. Ordered the Saldito (?) not sure if I spelled that correctly, with shrimp, and oh wow, it was amazing. The rice was delicious, with a slight taste of garlic, and was extremely fluffy! Then, on to the shrimp. It was a mixture of veggies (lots of onions, btw), french fries, and shrimp. The overall mixture of the shrimp, veggies, and fries was right on, the flavor and texture, was great! Can't wait to go back and try their other dishes! Yummy! Came here for the first time with the family based on a recommendation from a friend of my mother. My mother grew up in Peru so we thoroughly enjoy Peruvian food and trying new restaurants. We previously have been going to Choza Mama in Pasadena but their food and service has declined during the past year, leaving us to seek out a new favorite restaurant. I always order Lomo Saltado at Peruvian restaurants so this time was no exception. It was OKAY but not great. The food was very strongly flavored and a bit on the salty side. My dad loved it because he adores food with strong flavor but my mom and I weren't overly impressed. The ambience and decor was delightful though. It's not a huge restaurant and with a location across the street from Americana and CPK and the like, it's nice there's a privately owned restaurant in an area quickly filling up with chains. Our waitress was very nice and other than the strong flavors, I enjoyed my eating experience here. I'll probably try Lola's at least one more time before I sign off on it completely. Maybe I'll just need to try a different dish. Btw, there's parking structures around the corner from the restaurant. I think we paid about $5. One could probably park across the street at Americana or at the Galleria but the evening we went, there was some type of street festival so parking was limited. read more

This was the first time my family and I came here. The service was wonderful and so friendly. The food. A-Mazing... I love the fact that all of our meals were nice and hot. Sometimes when you're out eating parts of your meal are cold because it was waiting for other items to be finished. Again.... everything was nice and hot. I did order a glass of wine but it wasn't fresh... they had no problem opening a fresh bottle for me, I appreciated them offering and doing that. This place has a nice intimate feeling to it. This would also be a good place to take someone on a date... So Someone take me!!! Lol.. If I had to say anything bad about this place it would be their front entrance door is labeled incorrectly. . Lomo saltado with the spicy sauce (Rocoto) is just the most amazing combination there is. If you want to try something more traditional, the seco will do! It's an explosion of flavors in every bite. Poor service, had to wait even with empty tables, they refused to sit a party of 4 on a 6 party table, we even asked to be sit on a 2 party table, just add 2 more chairs, but they refused. Very inflexible! We had 4 bread sticks, the waitress said that they ran out of bread. Kinda like a Chinese restaurant running out of rice. What kind of Peruvian restaurant would run out of bread....unacceptable!!! They had 1 waitress for the entire restaurant, needless to say, the service was super slow, took forever to get our order and getting the food was even slower. The saving grace was the food, the food was pretty good. Had the seafood curry soup, that was delicious, by far one of the best seafood soup that I have eaten. Ok price is a little high ( $17-$22 per plate) but everything we ordered was tasty and the portion size was good, I am peruvian btw. The lomo was delicious, one of the best ones I've had here in the US. The traditional fish ceviche was fresh and had good flavor. My friend got the arroz con pollo and was happy with it, the only negative thing was that the "tallarin verde" my other friend ordered was not spaghetti like it should be, instead they served it with rigatoni pasta. Service was good, if i am ever again in the area i would definitely go back. P.S: They have a huge selection of wine, the place is small but classy and clean.
