My first experience here was wonderful. It was my first time trying Peruvian cuisine, ordered the fish in red sauce (forgot the name of the dish), and really enjoyed it. Last time I went, just tried a few appetizers and was completely disappointed. I had an appetizer as my entree and at first was happy with the beautiful presentation. It had layers of potatoes and avocados DRENCHED in creamy mayo. First bite was okay, but several bites later, I wanted to gag. Way too creamy and cold.. made my tummy ache. read more

I was super excited when I came across the groupon for Lola's because the lomo saltado combines 2 of my favorites...fries and rice! haha...nope, not the meat. For some reason having fries in rice just makes it seem like it's just that much healthier...yes, I'm fooling myself I know but it makes me feel a bit better eating it. So when the beef lomo saltado came out pipin' hot, the salivation immediately began and as I eagerly put a fork full of it into my mouth, all i could utter was - hm...it's ok. Sigh...the flavoring was decent but when i took in a bite of the rice, all i could taste was soy sauce, super salty soy sauce. It tasted as if the chef just pour soy sauce on the bottom and dumped the stir fried lomo saltado and beff on top with a clump of rice...the flavors did not infuse into each other. The fish dish that my mom had, though a garlic sauce, but was too garlicky....so much so that it almost gave a bit of a bitter after taste. The quest continues for spot on Peruvian...maybe Flor de Mayo or Pio Pio will make plans to open up locations in LA? read more

Food is okay. I got 5 strips of meat with my lomo saltado lunch special. The kicker is: we ordered on EAT24 for pick up at a specific time, to try to save time since our lunch time is limited. We got our food 30 MINUTES AFTER the scheduled pick-up time. No discount was offered. We were told that next time we should not order on EAT24 if we needed our order to be ready by a specific time. read more

Just finished our dinner here. It was our first time, and we had a great experience. Great service, wonderful live music, and delicious food. Got the chicha morada, lomo saltado, the ceviche trio and the seco. All were delicious, especially the seco and saltado. The only thing I would prefer is for the Ceviche fish to be cut better, some of the pieces were sinewy. Despite that, we were very pleased with our dinner and will be coming back. read more

My boyfriend is half Peruvian and grew up in a Peruvian household, so we eat a lot of Peruvian food and have been to many Peruvian restaurants. My boyfriend's father actually owned a Peruvian restaurant for a while in Portland.... I used to think that was the best Peruvian food I have ever eat, but now I have to say that I think Lola's takes the cake. We keep getting the groupon/living social deals, and the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is quite pricey... and we probably wouldn't eat there without the coupon. The food is amazing though, I tend to stick with the Lomo Saltado , Seco, or Tallarin Verde (all of which in my opinion are unrivaled). My boyfriend loves this place as well.... he says it is probably one of the more authentic Peruvian restaurants we have ever been to (we tend to stay away from the Chozo Mama chains, as they are what my boyfriend calls "very Americanized"). Oh, you can't pass up the Aji de Gallina. The only other complaints I have is that while it is a nice place, I find the white paper table covers a little trashy and unnecessary (seeing as though there are very nice black table cloths right underneath =/ And they really don't give you enough of the delicious bread with sauce dips. I was so looking forward to eating here because I enjoy good Peruvian food. I'm bolivian but the closest bolivian restaurant is too far away :( so next best thing to satisfy my bolivian food craving is Peruvian food and this place was highly rated so I was expecting good things from it. Sadly I was very disappointed , the food was blah. I Ordered the bistek a lo pobre and my husband ordered a dish with steak and pasta. The steak was full of fat, my husbands pasta was overcooked and rubbery and his steak was just as fatty as mine . My rice was regular nothing special and the platanos I did enjoy . The one good thing they had was the sauces for the bread but they only give you 2 breadsticks at a time and service was very slow after we were seated so we were waiting for our bread to get refilled but that never happened . The waitress was very nice but she never came to ask if we wanted another drink or more bread so my husband had to get up and go find her to ask for another beer . She was the only waitress and the place isn't that big and wasn't that full so I was expecting better service . Sadly I cannot recommend this place and I will not return. If you want to go to a good Peruvian restaurant in pasadena "chola mama", in old town area. Having said all this I even used a groupon on this place and it still was not worth the discounted price. read more

Good but not great. Price isn't bad either but the service is great. If you're looking for casual no fuss dining with good food that's different, this is the spot. I've been thrice and the last time, everything was a bit salty, maybe an off day. My daughter and I live only a few blocks away so it's convenient for an evening stroll and is kid friendly if you have kids. There are so many options in the area that this isn't at the top of the list unless we're looking for Peruvian fare, which is rare. The waitstaff is really nice and helpful, I've not had a lot of Peruvian so I don't know how this would compare, this is based on just my palate for food in general and I love food of different cultures and ethnicities. I'd say it's at least worth a try if you've never been. read more

The hubby and i had a day off together so we decided to use our groupon to Lolas...I have been here plenty of times before today so i figured it would be a great place to take my hubby.. Boy was i wrong i presented our waitress with the groupon she left and didnt come back for hmmm 10 min before I had to tell her i was thirsty and wanted a chicha..i ordered my drink and entrees cuz who knew when she would be back... The food was delicious.. So obviously my 2 stars went to the food and not the service. I husband finished his drink and I had to get up and ask the waitres for another soda. Then i felt weird having to go back because we needed some hot suace... We got it then she totally disregarded my empty glass. So then i go ahead and get up and ask for another chicha for myself.. At this point im annoyed and i want to go.. We asked for the bill and a box and left but not before completely passing the waitress on our way out she mutters thank you.. Ughh yes she should i did all her work!! The only thing i didnt do was cook the food.. Groupons or travelzoo coupons can be a good and bad thing.. Some waitresses as soon as they see you have a coupon they ignore you... I urge the managers/owners who participate in Groupon to tell their employees to treat the customers with respect and not to dismiss them.. Because 9 times out of ten i will go back without a groupon if i had good food and good service.. Lola's you are off my list!! read more

Came here about a year ago for lunch and had the best experience. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional. The waiter explained the dishes to us and overall made it a great experience. Fast forward a year and the food and service have definitely gone down... The servers were very nice but service was so slow. It took us almost 15 minutes to be seated even though the restaurant wasn't that busy and there were plenty of tables. The seafood saltado was very blend and the beef from the lomo saltado was overcooked and hard to chew. The only real consistent and positive thing about this place is their spicy green sauce. read more

A friend recently told me I had to try chicha morada (a Peruvian drink), so I turned to Yelp looking for authentic Peruvian food and ended up at Lola's. I came before the dinner rush and loved every second of it. My server was delightful. She offered to let me sample the drink, which they make fresh right there in the kitchen, before I ordered a full glass. (And I did order the full glass!) For dinner I had cau cau de quinoa with salmon. It was so good--very flavorful. It comes with rice, which makes the dish a bit heavy on the carbs, so I suggest asking for a salad instead. My waitress said they make everything fresh in the kitchen daily (no pre-cut, frozen potatoes here!) and that when they get really busy the food can sometimes take an hour or more to make it out to the tables. So, if you plan on coming to Lola's (and I hope you will!) be prepared to relax, forget about the time, and enjoy yourself. The food will be well worth your wait! read more

Lola's is great. Peruvian food is such a symphony of flavors due to all of the various influences from Asia, Spain, and the indigenous tribes. One of my favorite dishes from Lola's is the Lomo saltado Tender steak strips stir fried in a tangy soy sauce marinade along with sweet red onions and fresh tomatoes. The meat was perfectly cooked and tender, the onions and tomatoes were not overcooked they still retained some firmness to them. This is served with a portion of Peruvian white rice. The other dish I really like was the Ceviche. I never knew that the Peruvian fishermen invented this dish, being Mexican I always thought it came from my country. What I like about the Peruvian version is that they don't chop the ingredients into mush like the Mexican version. The fresh fish is sliced into bite size pieces and is allowed to fish marinate in lime juice for just the right amount of time so that the fish is "cooked " by the lime but still retains its texture. Upon taking the first bite I noticed all of the flavors were in perfect balance not too sour, not too salty, not too spicy. Aside from the great food, the atmosphere is great for bringing a date and having a nice conversation while sampling some good wines from South America. read more

Came to have lunch with my in-laws,we started off with delicias del mar, then we had jalea, pollo a la brasa, chancho al palo and finally crema volteada with coffee. We shared and loved everything!!! Visited this establishment yesterday and was the first one in the restaurant. Ordered the lomo soltado and the food came out pretty quick , the meat was so hard to chew on making me think it was left over from the day before. To make matters worse I ended up having to vomit and stomach cramps hours after eating there. Would never go back to this restaurant. read more

I was concerned about the service and the saltiness of the food based on the yelp reviews, but overall we had a great experience. The ambiance was nice and the service was excellent. Our waitress and busboy were really attentive and friendly and provided some of the best service we have ever gotten (it was a Wednesday night). We enjoyed the rolls and the dipping sauce they give you as appetizers, good stuff. My fiance got the lomo slatado and it was ok. Not bad, but we had better. I got the ceviche sampler. It came with three different ceviches and the tradicional was bomb, but the other two were a bit salty( i see were the comments are coming from). We went to this place cause we had a groupon. And I think I would buy another one and go again if it came up, but the place is a bit pricey for the quality of food to go without one. read more

I came from Louisiana up to Glendale to visit a buddy and I suggested we go to this place. all of the ingredients seem as fresh as could be. the food came out in a timely fashion and was prepared to perfection. My wife and kids had a horrible time at this restaurant, i lived in Glendale for many years, I'm also original from Peru and know my people very well. everything was fine, until I ask for ketchup and more hot sauce, the waitress, make a mistake forgot about the ketchup, but broght me rocoto hot souce same color as kepchup, the ketchup was for my son's fries, and of course my son was terrify when putting the rococo in his mouth. my wife rushed my 4 year old to the restroom to wash his mouth. after the incident, the waitress (sandra) never even showed up to my table to apologized. one of the boss boys just simply said "sorry about that". before i paid the bill, I asked to speak to the manager but the boss boy said sandra was in charge. she came to my table right before i left, and i said to her, the least you can say is Sorry. she look up me very arrogant and said, I don't have to apologize because, you never asked for ketchup, so is not my fault. I reply, i did ask for ketchup and if this is just a misunderstanding all you have to said is SORRY. but she insisted it wasn't her fault. I said "what kind of service is this? she said, I been in business for 10 years and i'm doing good, and walked away. me and my wife couldn't believe it, i was so furious, paid the bill no tip of course and left. I simply don't understand how this restaurant can be in business with people like this. This is of course probably a relative of the owner, who thinks she doesn't have to said sorry to anybody. because she is related to the owner. from what I'm reading she makes lots of mistakes, never took the order in writing. our order was served by the boss boy, don't know exactly where she was after food was served. the place was too dark and with a cold felling.
