    Your ride

So I went to Long Beach Waterbikes and caught their father's day deal, all daddies ride for free. I was looking for something fun and different to do for father's day. This was exactly what I needed. I got some exercise and some nice views. I enjoyed myself very much and would definitely do it again. Right after I was done I was straight the bar for much needed refreshments. Yay!

Long Beach Water Bike is amazing

My birthday chain with no lights. My camera adjusted it too bright.

We did this at night for my cousin's birthday. We were running late and since it's a bit tricky to find, got there later than expected but they were nice enough to still let us ride. Don't look for an office just to to the dock behind Ballast Point Brewery. It was cool the first 20 mins then it turned into a workout. The lifejackets we got were wet, so being there at 9pm, that added to the chill factor. My cousin, the birthday honoree, was given a bike that had half the lights on! He got on last and I wish he would've asked for another bike. The man getting us situated was nice but a bit hard to understand, even if I speak Spanish lol, and we weren't given a map. Luckily I found one on their website that I screenshot. Unfortunately, the area I wanted to go to was too far, it took us 40 mins just to get there considering we were a bit lost even with the map. It's hard to tell where you're going at night. So we didn't do the little roundabout by the homes and just headed back. I would do this again but can't imagine during the summer or we'd sweat even more. I think I would try the sunset one next time.

So I'm gonna be completely honest. It was different from what I was expecting. We were completely lost at first trying to find the place. I wish there had been more signs up to direct us or like a map sent via email with info beforehand or something. And I thought it was gonna be a group thing where everyone goes out together at the same time, but it's just you and whoever you bring going out together. It was also more scary and intimidating to get on these water bikes at first than I was expecting, especially with the water looking like the black lagoon. But once we got on and were on our way we had a fun time and the view was beautiful. The speaker was definitely needed for the vibes. And it will be a leg workout. Wish we moved faster with all the pedaling we were doin but once we made it out by the homes with pretty lights it felt like we were coastin in a dream world. It was a beautiful memorable night, I will definitely come back again with a cute boy one day. But I might wear some booty padding next time because me and my cousins booties were sore right after and for the next 2 days following lol.

    Gorgeous day out!

So much fun! I took my Mom, she's always wanted to bike ride but never got a chance to learn AND she LOVES the water so I thought, "heck why not put her on a water bike?!" LOL well, glad to report we had a TOTAL blast! The water is very lively! We counted 7 boats where the captain or his passengers waved at us! It was super cute everyone was having a great time! Many gorgeous birds with massive wings, some even scooping fish from the water (I was devastated at first but c'est la vie). Cute tadpoles swimming near the deck! Plus, I think someone recently proposed on the water because I found roses (on the stem) floating! The service is great though I will mention some of the younger workers have sort of a non communicative style and their answers don't necessarily give you a boost of confidence lol the older and possibly more experienced workers who we met on our way out are really fun, sweet and knowledgeable. All in all a great time and activity!

    Sunset!

I went back this past weekend, and it was as great as a year ago! Me and my boyfriend went when it was at 4:30 pm so we got to see the sunset together for the first time. It was so relaxing and the perfect weather. The staff were kind and friendly as always! This time around it was easier to bike (turning out of the post, and coming back). Can't wait to take more of my friends here next year! I always recommend this spot to anyone in the area from out of town!

Pretty affordable with very open availability. I recommend going at sunset. You get both the day time and night time beauty. Just note that it is a bit of a workout lol so i suggest brining something to drink with you and either take your own speakers or rent theirs. I give it a 4 because your a little far from the beautiful houses

Sandals on the water bike is a NO

The staff was great, and it was so easy to make reservations. The reason I give only 3 stars is because this was hard work! I was not expecting a major workout. It looked like it would be more fun but I wore the wrong shoes (flip flops) and it was so windy that we really had to bike I felt like I was at a cycle class on the water. Maybe if it was a nicer day it would have been a better experience.

Great exercise Great service Great activity A lot of people were doing it & it made us think we could do it & so we did

If you want a unique water activity look no further than Long Beach Waterbikes. This is such a fun thing to do. The staff is incredibly kind and responsive. If you join their text program you can get a free birthday ride. You do have to use the ride within a certain time frame. You can find free parking in the lot where the check in is located. Once you get down on the dock you'll sign a waiver and get a life jacket. We did the hour day time ride but the glow ride at night looks really cool as well. I am not in great shape but was able to do the ride for an entire hour. My family is already talking about doing this again. I would definitely recommend this!!

Ask the Community - Long Beach Waterbikes

The area we ride, is the waters safe? No whales or sharks? Has anyone tipped over from marine animals confrontations?

Yes of course its safe, no marine animals are in this area

    Is there a weight restriction?

Hi! Yes. 250 pounds. One person/hydrobike.

    How long is each rental?

Hi Jennifer! You’re on the water for an hour. Check in is 30 minute prior to departure.

Are there any age restrictions? Can you be 17 and ride?

Hi! As long as there is someone that can sign for you and be on the water with you that is 18 or older. More info at lbwaterbikes.com/faq. Kids age 4-9 can ride as a passenger as long as total weight limit does not exceed 250 pounds. Other than that…

Dress code? Can a dress be worn? Shoes?

Probably with a jacket. I didn't get wet whatsoever. You should be ok.

Omg do I have to get on a scale with my friends around to know I'm 250 or under?

Nope! Just be sure you’re under the weight limit. It is for your safety.

    So I can't ride if I'm over 250 pounds. I am 270 ish?

That’s correct. The weight limit is 250 pounds. Hydrobikes lose stability if over 250 pounds is on them. Under 250 pounds and they’re extremely stable.

Are you guys ever gonna make bikes for bigger people at least 350lbs?

Hi Kayla! We don’t manufacture Hydrobikes. We buy them and rent them out.

    Are life jackets provided?

Yes ! They provide life jackets :)

Is it safe in the night time ? is there gonna be sharks swimming where we will peddle?

Not open ocean. You'll ride in Alamitos Bay.

How long can you ride the bikes for?

Hi! Each reservation is 1 hour.

Can you do this is you don't know how to swim?

Yes but it’s required that you wear a lifejacket anyway.

Can't my pregnant girlfriend be able to ride one? Any restrictions because of pregnant?

Hi! We don’t recommend it but best to ask your doctor.

Can my toddler ride with me?

Hi Katherine! No. A child must be able to reach the pedals to ride.

    Do you guys take pictures?

    No not at this time.

How much is it? Is it per hour or a flat rate?

Hi! It’s $25/person/hour for day time and $30/person/hour for glow rides at night.

How old do you have to be to ride a waterbike?

For the best answer to this question, visit lbwaterbikes.com/faq

When is the early bird special?

We no longer have an early bird special.

How much is it per person?

    Day Ride - $25/person/hour Glow Ride - $30/person/hour

    Is it totally free?

Totally not free. But there is a way to ride for free. You would need to volunteer for trash pickup using the waterbike. It occurs once a month on a Saturday.

What we would be fishing that day how to rig up. And how fast we need to get a jig in the water after they're spotted. It was extremely helpful to be able to hear every word the captain was saying. I landed a large bonito on the bow because I knew I had to act fast. Hearing every word the Captain says makes during the whole trip made a huge difference. Another thing I noticed that upon boarding the restroom smelled lemony fresh. I've been on clean boats and not so clean boats but never lemon fresh! There was also upbeat music playing as we fished and it definitely made for a fun party-ish environment. Last but not least, Yellowtails on the half day! That alone would have made the trip excellent but the cleanliness, atmosphere and audio system made the trip even more enjoyable. I caught a small size one, but there were others on the boat who caught very nice ones. Bait was plentiful today. Thank you everyone on The City of Long Beach for an excellent trip.

Honestly the worse charter fishing boat I have been on as for as being friendly and making me feel welcomed. Including the Captian they are all rude and very disrespectful, almost to the point where it might seem they are prejudice. Their attitude is if you dont like my rules then get off my boat and their rules are I do what I want and your nothing to me. The Driveway off of 7th Street is easy to miss, as the sign is small. I've been fishing the Ocean and Freshwater for many years. I started fly fishing about two years ago, but only gone two trips. Well, I thought I was fly fishing just fine and catching fish during my yearly backpacking trips in the Eastern Sierras. A co-worker had taken beginner's casting lessons and had recommended for me to take the classes to improve on my casting. I had visited the facility on the night during a club competition. I saw the fun and camaraderie the fly casters were having. I located the beginners casting class in Long Beach Casting Club's website. The club is the home to many local Master Fly Casting and FFF Certified Fly Casting Instructors. On premises are a casting pond and the club house. Stadium style lights are usually on Tuesday and Thursdays evenings. Class starts with lecture and videos inside the club house, then they are divided into four groups and each group has several instructors to help students with their casting for the evening at the casting pond. The classes run about five weeks, and each week they teach a different cast. Classes start 7pm sharp, so if you are late, you will miss the 15 minutes of lecture and videos. Each week, you will have the same group of instructors who will help you with your casting and any questions you may have. The first night they go over with suggestions on proper equipments, Fly Rod, Fly Reel, Fly Line, Fly Line Backing and Tapered Leader. Class suggest that you have your own equipment, 9ft 5/6wt balance outfit as I brought my lightweight 7.5ft 3wt outfit that I use for my backpacking trips. If you need assistance in assembling the rod, reel, and/or fly line, the instructors will help you, just bring them in at least 30-40 minutes before the class starts. They teach the proper rod grip, Pick up and Lay Down, False Cast, Roll Cast, Shooting Line, Off Shoulder Casts and Line Mending. I thought I knew how to cast a fly line, but I was amazed how much I improved after each class. Anyone can attend these classes, men and women, if you have a desire to learn. I am happy that I had taken the classes at Long Beach Casting Club. I now have more confidence to tackle the Eastern Sierras, Lakes, streams and maybe Bone fish on a fly during my next vacation. The Long Beach Casting club also has rod building, fly tying, on-the-water outings and intermediate fly casting classes. If you are a seasoned caster, but need any help, stop by as previously mentioned, they have instructor or advanced students that can help.
