My wife and I had dinner at the Olathe LongHorn Steakhouse on Sunday July 19th, where we usually have a decent experience. I ordered the half rack baby back ribs with broccoli. The server informed me that they didn't have broccoli, but they had green beans. Not being a fan of restaurant green beans, I had her return later so my wife and I could contemplate what to order instead given she also wanted to order the broccoli. The server returned and I ordered the ribs with a baked potato and my wife placed her modified order. Shortly the server returned and informed me that they didn't have ribs. So, I updated my order, again. Later, while we were still eating (literally forks in our hands and eating our food) the server asked if we wanted boxes. My wife and I were in disbelief that someone would ask if we wanted boxes while we were both eating. My wife made a comment thinking she didn't hear the server correctly. I assured her that she did hear her correctly. I think the server heard her, so the next time the server asked if there was anything we needed. We then asked for boxes having finished eating and having leftovers. She brought boxes and a check, without asking if we wanted dessert. Nothing like feeling like a business wants you to leave while not having people waiting for the table. Note: Our server was at the next table and informed them that they didn't have broccoli, but they had green beans, asparagus, and brussels sprouts. My wife and I already discussed that a properly run business would offer the upper end alternatives without the up-charge if they ran out of a side. Was she offering them the upper end alternatives without an up-charge? Don't know, but I noticed the difference in treatment. Also, if you are out of an entree that the customer wants to order then you should be offering a free appetizer, dessert, or comping the item some percentage. These are simple service recovery techniques. I did appreciate the lower noise level as my wife and I could carry on a conversation across the table. read more

Even though LongHorn has been around a long time, our family has only recently "discovered" it! Last year, in a timeframe of just a few weeks, we had multiple friends and family coincidentally mention great meals and experiences at LongHorn, so we thought it was high time to check in at the long-famed steakhouse! We've now been about a half dozen times (yes, this review IS overdue!), and we've had mostly great experiences! As a matter of fact, if this review had been written prior to our latest visit, it would have ONLY been positive! This location (our only location visited thus far) has been pretty consistent across the areas of service and food. First, the positives: for a medium-sized, wide-open dining room, somehow this place is always quiet enough for normal-level conversation at the table. No yelling, projecting over, cupping over ears or other tactics are needed, and I really appreciate that! The service has always been consistently "attentive", which is my way of saying perfectly normal/average. For a nice, sit-down steak dinner (I'm assuming steak is at the heart of why most folks are here), the value here is real: while they're not giving it away, the prices seem super fair, especially for the red meat options! Lastly, there's just something nice about the ambiance of a dimly lit, western-ish themed dining room to enjoy a meat-and-potatoes meal, and LongHorn does a good job of meeting expectations here! So, where's the gap? Well, up until our latest visit, I would have said there was not one. However, on our last visit, which was with a party of six adults, the main food dish on multiple plates (three of the six) was FAR overdone. It was as if the main grill caught fire and burned a ton of food, but they didn't want to toss it. I had the pork ribs, and to be honest, they were a single micron away from inedible. Extremely tough, difficult to chew, and impossible to swallow without a water assist, I choked my way through. Frequent fliers of my Yelp reviews (hi, Mom!) know that I have a strict policy of not sending food back and/or requesting a new dish due to a complaint. I simply go with what is served, eat it if I am able, and drop an honest review after. Therefore, I will say that it will be difficult for me to return here soon, as $30-$50 for a supper that was largely inedible is not my idea of a good value, and the risk of suffering it again is tough when the competition is fierce. Take that for what it's worth: one visit in five or six, but for the money and the hope of a nice meal, the risk is a little high. If you don't have any beef (!!) with sending food back on the chance it comes out poorly, you should be fine! The sides here are really good (definitely check out the brussels sprouts!) and I love their salads! It's been a long time since I visited a LongHorn Steakhouse, and never this location. I will say that the place was a lot quieter than that other Steakhouse nearby that I frequent. Our servicer was fast and very friendly. We really liked their take on the fried onion appetizer, which they call the Texas Tonion. Unlike other restaurants who serve onion blossoms, which while tasty, can be a little greasy, these separately breaded and fried onion slices are delightful and delicious. Next was the French Onion soup which really hit the spot, very good. As my entree, I ordered an 8 oz sirloin and added a lobster tail. While the steak was cooked perfectly, I noted that the lobster tail was missing. Our server, Angie, went to check on it. She returned and let me know that the chef had noticed that the tail was overcooked and had started another one. My one complaint here is that while it takes less than 10 minutes to cook a 4 oz. lobster tail, I finished my steak and baked potato before the tail arrived. I wasn't rushing my meal, as I was enjoying it and talking with my wife, so I thought the tail was very late to the party. Angie who apparently felt the same, told me I wouldn't be charged for the tail, which was just a little under cooked, though still very tasty. For a chain steak joint, I wasn't expecting a lot. But an 8oz filet for 19.99$? Sign me up! Got the renegade filet with a sweet potato and rice pilaf. Meal also comes with a small loaf of bread and butter. The steak was seasoned well, the rice was a little too salty.. and my sweet potato, I assumed was going to come unbuttered, but it came buttered and sugared. The menu advertised a cinnamon sugar butter, and I'm pretty positive that they just dumped a packet of cane sugar on top of the butter. I originally found myself here after searching online where I could get a good bowl of French onion soup on a Sunday evening. I have only been to Longhorn once before at a different location, but this time I was dining alone and felt I could document the full experience! Although, I came here for the soup the mixed green salad stole the appetizer show. From the house made ranch and what taste like house made croutons too?! I normally opt for no croutons since they're usually extremely dry and hard, but as someone noted before they are still light, airy and very delicious! The cheese was freshly shredded as well and I love that cucumbers were diced instead of big slices, the only thing I wish I did was take a picture. The French onion soup looked amazing, but it was a bit salty and the crouton under the cheese crust quickly soaked up most of broth leaving more an onion gravy than soup. Wasn't a fan of the complimentary bread, I think the tiny pieces of wheat threw me off? Without any of intention of eating a steak, I ended up ordering the 12 oz ribeye with asparagus and brussel sprouts. The ribeye was cooked medium and it was perfect, I had A1 sauce on stand-by and didn't use a drop! The asparagus was cooked to perfection as well, but way too salty/over seasoned to eat more than a few. I was really hoping to enjoy the brussel sprouts the most and they tasted great, but once I got towards the bottom it was mostly oil. If you want a GREAT steak and salad this is the place to be. Steaks are served with something Long branch calls love Juice. This is not mentioned on the menu. It is a blend of lemon juice and soy bean oil. For those of you who are trying to avoid toxic chemically extracted oils it is very important that you not only ask for your steak to have salt only as a seasoning but you also explicitly tell them that you will pass on the love juice. It does not taste like a steak. You will be healthier and more satisfied with the food if you say no soy oil. What a disappointment in a steak house. Who does this? read more

She also had no clue what beers were on tap (menu states "ask server for beer selection"). Later we waited and waited to hopefully find her walking around so we could ask for steak sauce. Finally I had to go back in the kitchen to ask for it, only to find a bunch of employees gathered around their phones. By the time we had what we wanted at the table our food was cold. Good, but cold. Took most of our meal home to heat up later. In the spring, my wife works a Friday evening/Saturday morning "side hustle," so we almost always go out for dinner on Fridays when she gets off. The only problem with that is by the time we can get anywhere to eat the lines are generally pretty long. Such was the case last night, but we found an acceptable wait time online at Longhorn Steakhouse and headed that direction. Since we had a bit of a drive to get there, we hopped in queue online for an anticipated 20-minute wait and we were there in short order. About 40 minutes after our arrival we were escorted to a booth for two. Our host was delightful, and our server amiable, but on the whole our experience was lackluster. We ordered our usual spicy chicken bites appetizer; the wife had chicken strips and a baked sweet potato, and I ordered a rib eye, medium rare, with Brussels sprouts. We each had a salad: mine a Caesar and hers a house salad w/blue cheese. Our food was fine, though my steak was more medium-well than medium-rare... (but the Brussels sprouts almost made up for it-- truly one of the best sides I've found ANYWHERE.) It wasn't the great steak I'd been craving, but again, it was fine. My wife's chicken, on the other hand, was OUTSTANDING. Our server seemed too busy to give really great service, as evidenced by the more than 10-minute wait with empty water glasses at the edge of the table. (Yes, I looked at my watch!) I couldn't help but wonder if they'd been filled more quickly if they had been cocktail glasses or wine glasses. I'm not generally a complainer, but this was the first time out of MANY visits to this restaurant that I went away disappointed in our decision to go there. I'll grant that it could simply have been an off day, and i really wish I could give "half stars" in ratings. This would have been a three and a half... certainly not an "AMAZING 5," and not really a "VERY GOOD 4." Our visit was better than an "AVERAGE 3" but not great. The 4 stars of this review average last night's 3 with my former review's 5. Next time we visit, and we WILL go again, I'll reconsider this review and adjust accordingly. read more

I decided to come with my family for lunch to celebrate my moms birthday. We sat at our table and the waitress never gave her name and didn't do a greeting in any way. The table ordered water and two kids lemonades and it took 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Keep in mind the restaurant was nearly empty. After getting our drinks, the waitress never did the rounds to ask how we were doing and asked if we needed a drink refill. When she came back to take our order we asked to get side salads and French onion soup. The waitress the asked if we wanted bread and I said yes. Many minutes elapsed and we finally got our bread but the status of our salads and soups were never mentioned. The waitress brought the salad but did not bring 1 of the two soups we order. She never mentioned the other soup at all and I was left wondering if she forgot to take the order for the additional soup or if the kitchen staff was still preparing the soup. We finished eating the bread and stacked the plates near the edge of the table in front of my waitress. She never took the plates. We waited what felt like was an eternity to receive our food and the waitress again did not address the stack of plates. I counted and she did 4 additional passes before she ever addressed the plates. The two steak burgers and the two kids burgers I ordered were dry and lacked any flavor. The rice pilaf was extremely salty. After finishing our food, the waitress never asked if we liked the food, never asked if we wanted dessert. She walked by slid the bill on the table and left. We looked at the bill and noticed she overcharged me for one dish and had to have the manager fix the ticket. The waitress also eventually brought to go boxes and neglected to provide bags at all. I had to catch her on one of her laps around the restaurant to ask for two bags. Overall my experience at this location was very poor. I am shocked at how bad the entire experience was at this location. I have had a great experience at other locations in the area. read more

We had a nice family dinner for a birthday. I had not been at this location in a few years. Here is what I thought: No reservations: We had 8 people in our group and was told to call the day of an hour prior to arrival to ensure we were placed on the "wait list." With or without being placed on said list, it was a 45 minute wait. The KCK-Legends location was a two and a half hour wait with the same list. I do not see the purpose in calling ahead, especially for larger groups. You wait either way. Customer service: We had two servers and sadly, I forgot their names. Both were very attentive and not overbearing. They made sure our drinks stayed filled and were not rushing us out the door. The hostess was friendly and welcoming and the staff did not seem to mind our large group. Food: For appetizers, we ordered a Texas Tonion, two orders of shrimp, and firecracker chicken wraps. All of it was fresh and delicious. We had plenty of plates and bread and butter as well. For the main course, I ordered a 6 oz sirloin and a sweet potato, hubby had a cheeseburger, and the kids had chicken tenders. The fries were over salted and my husband could not finish them. He also said the burger was bland and underwhelming. My steak was flavorful and tender, but it did have a lot of gristle. The kids did not care for their Mac and cheese as a side, as they said it was too bacon forward. Another family member did care for the ribs, as they were too fatty. Overall: This was a great visit. The staff were very friendly and the food was decent. I definitely preferred the appetizers over my gristly steak. I would come back but maybe with a smaller group. Tonight we took our family to Longhorn and was very disappointed by my food. First let me say, our waitress was fantastic. The disappointment happened when. Y food was brought out .the Brussels sprouts were cold, I asked for no butter on my sweet potato, but no biggie, I just took off what I could. however my 6 ounce steak was extremely small. I asked our waitresss and she sent the manager over. He was rude and condesvending. I told him the steak looked to be only about 3 ounces and even accounting for cooking shrinkage it should t be that small. I had it cooked to medium. His tone was extremely rude and I continued to try and be polite through our exchange. He just said ' okay, any more editions?' And left the table. on principle, I chose to take it home and weigh it on my scale. It was 3 ounces. I have a picture that I'll add if there's an option. I have eaten at Longhorn easily 100 times in the last decade, for about 3 years we ate there once a week and I ordered the sirloin steak. i was following a strict meal plan so knew how to tell the weight from appearance. My scale was confirmation that I can still spot the weight accurately. As long as Longhorn in Olathe has its current management, we won't be returning. read more

Ya know.....for your basic franchise steakhouse - this one wasn't bad! First time trying this location here in Olathe and walked in and was shocked by how small it is. It does have a very intimate feel to it with the lighting and decor if you haven't been in one before. We had a bad experience several times at the one from back home (OKC) and decided we were done trying several years ago. I'm glad we came to try this one out today again!! We signed up for the email club and received a free appetizer with entree purchase. We tried the chili cheese fries - topped with chili and cheese, queso (which was a nice surprise) and jalapeños. Very good - hot - but a little disappointed with the size since it used to be bigger a few years ago to where we could take some home later to munch on. We split the porter house with two house salads with ranch that came with a nice warm load of wheat bread and butter!! Service was lacking this evening and has to constantly keep an eye out for our server whenever she would occasionally pass by without checking on us....and it would take a while to get a drink refill or in our case - ordered a piping hot load of bread to go with our meal....but unfortunately showed up when we had finished our meal and was asking for the check. read more

One of my favorite places to get steak. I'm not super picky when it comes to steak, but theirs is always fantastic. I'm gluten-intolerant, but my husband definitely enjoys the bread. I much prefer grilled/roasted broccoli over steamed, and it's a hit or miss at this location. Sometimes your waiter will get it for you, other times not. But if you can get it prepared that way, it's amazing! We did get takeout once right after I had our baby because I wasn't about to go sit in a restaurant with her at 4 days old, but it was our anniversary. It was..... unimpressive to say the least. We come here mostly for special occasions b/c it's really a treat for delicious meal and exceptional service. Our servers always seem to enjoy their job and are very attentive. I order steak every time and mix up my sides. Why only 4 stars ...they do have call ahead seating but we always end up waiting another 25+ min after arriving prior to our time. Maybe the host should give over estimates as to be happy if u get seated earlier. I was pleasantly surprised - the food was better than I expected. Here's why: 1. The bread is good. It's a big, fat, fluffy loaf, and I kept eating slice after slice. 2. The caesar salad was OK/normal, but I have to say the croutons on the salad were the best I have ever had anywhere. Normally I don't eat croutons because they are hard and dry, but these were so light and toasty and perfectly delicious. Best croutons in the world! 3. I got the spaghetti squash as a side, and it was really good. Props for even having this as an option, and it was one of the better ones I've had. Maybe a bit too much butter on it, but definitely tasty. 4. I got the shrimp dish, and I was very happy that it came with so many shrimp (12). Sometimes you order shrimp as your main and it's very sad when you only get 4 or 6. This is 3 skewers of 4 each and it was very visually satisfying. Tina is the best! Every time we come in we always request her area. She is so friendly, so attentive, and so professional. Our favorites here are the burger, flos fillet, French onion soup, house salad, and Parmesan chicken. The Brussels sprouts are like nothing I've ever had before, so delicious! The old fashioned drink is tasty as well. Love the customer service we get from Tina and I'm sure she is helping out with training the younger servers here on how to give the best customer service because she does such an amazing job with patrons. read more

Nice location and we had a good server. She was patient with our friend who is sometimes a little spaced out and the fact that someone joined us late. I ordered their chips with cheese appetizer, but I wish she would have told us that we all got some of the chips and cheese with the meals we ordered so we wasted a bunch. We each got the lunch combos where you pick 2 items. I got a mushroom swiss burger with chili. The chili was fine, nothing great. The burger was really delicious and perfect. We put our names on the online waitlist and it gave us a 40 minute wait time. We arrived 30 minutes later and checked in and the hostess said the wait was going to be another 40 minutes because people arriving inside were put on priority. What is the point of having online waitlist if you do not honor the online waitlist. We had reservations for an event after and were trying to get dinner before hand but were now unable to do so because of the extra 40 minute wait. read more

Good place to go to for a not too expensive steak. My son wanted to give it a 4... I was more leaning towards 3. We make pretty decent steak at home, so I cannot bring myself to pay over $50 for a steak, so when wanting to have 'steak out', we typically compromise on a mid range priced steak place- hence longhorn is one of our go to places for those times. Overall food is good. Bread is fresh and warm. Salad was not the freshest but ok. My son ordered a rib-eye and mashed potatoes- was very pleased with his food. My husband got prime rib - was also pleased. Too pink for my taste but he liked it and since he had ordered it for himself that is what matters! I got salmon w/ a side of asparagus. Was too full with the bread, our appetizer of stuffed mushrooms (which were pretty good) and salad, to eat more than a few bites. So had it for lunch the next day- was pretty good; crispy, moist, flavorful! Will stay our 'go to' for a decent medium priced steak. Would appreciate it even more if they would start taking reservations. In this time and age- personally I think all places need to get on board with reservations - by phone or on-line. They take call aheads, maybe 30 min before your desired time- but is still a little frustrating! And for a change I remembered to take pictures of our food! read more
