I went to LongHorn Steakhouse while I was in town for a work trip, and it was so good I ended up going two nights in a row. I ordered the Kansas City strip with shrimp both times, and everything was excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the shrimp were honestly amazing. which says a lot because I'm very picky about seafood. Fresh, flavorful, and not overcooked at all. Service was great both nights, everyone was friendly, and I had zero complaints. It was consistently good, which is exactly what you want when you're traveling for work and just want a solid meal. Two of us ate there this afternoon. Got there a bit after 1 I believe. 30 to 40 minutes to get food - one dish was a chicken salad, while the other was grilled chicken breast. We had a limited time together and hsd other things to do. Just disappointed in how long it took. Food was absolutely incredible but the absurd delay in getting the food was really not acceptable. I don't like chain restaurants and avoid them, generally, but I've been here about three times in my life - including in the last month - and the food is consistently good, and the service is always great. The restaurant is crowded and we're usually with a bigger party so it feels a little chaotic, but I see people enjoying more intimate dinners in the booths. I came here for a birthday party and I really enjoyed my experience. I hadn't been to Longhorn in years so it was almost like a first visit. I got the patron dragonfruit margarita and I can confidently say, that's the best drink I've ever had.. plus it came with a refill and a half. My meal was absolutely perfect and delicious. Dinner on a Tuesday night. We got seated right away. They were not too busy. There was a good amount of people dining. Western style themed deco. It's a nice atmosphere. Our server was good and I appreciated that she took the initiative to bring me a menu for celiac issues after I mentioned having it. My husband had the ribeye, sweet potato, and house salad and he said his meal was excellent. I had the 6 ounce fillet, seasoned rice, and Caesar salad salad without croutons. My salad was rather dry and had some old lettuce in it. The rice was somewhat dry as well and the fillet was cooked well and tender, but the seasoning was extremely spicy with too much pepper. Longhorn is close to work, and when I'm working late it's an easy go-to, because it's open later than most restaurants in this part of suburbia. I had dined here a month or so prior to my latest visit as a guest of a dear old friend (and okay, I'm no spring chicken myself) and had a very good experience (that I felt was so impacted by enjoying my friend's company and conversation that I opted to wait until after another meal (it was surely good enough for another visit) before reviewing. I do this for nearly all places I review so that a glitch or my frame of reference doesn't color my experience/lessen objectivity. I think I had the NY strip steak on my first visit, so this time I opted for the steak & lobster. I had to repeat the asparagus (because it was memorable and I love that vegetable) which was perfectly cooked both times--now I know it's no fluke. Also: the baked potato was right-on-the-money: thoroughly but not overcooked and ready for digging into, trimmed up just right with chives. Longhorn knows how to prepare a steak dinner for those of us who expect excellence, and on two occasions they impressed me enough that I know I'll return. The service both visits was well above average (seems like in Kansas City, that's normal, as there are *so many great places to eat* here). I had to knock off one star from my second visit only because the steak was undercooked. But my server alerted the kitchen and manager, who made sure I didn't leave unhappy by offering me a dessert on the house, which was also excellent (and I ended up saving for later in my fridge). The undercooked steak was redder than ordered, but basically okay. The ambiance here was BUSY both (dinner) times, and another aspect of this location that impressed me as a senior is the caring way staff dealt with guests: I felt acknowledged pleasantly soon after entering (this time sans reservation), and the service staff is outstanding. Very attentive, and they listened to whatever I said and got my order exactly right both visits. I shall return. My five-star rating after I said one was knocked off? It was only halfway-knocked-off before the staff corrected the issue. I also always round up, because food (along with food service in stressful conditions like restaurants open to the public) is easy to criticize, while not easy to get 100%-right. I'd ordered it once before, but with the sauce, it was WAY too salty..nearly inedible. I tried it again, requesting the sauce be left off. Unfortunately, it is still VERY salty. It may be a chain restaurant that screams "13th birthday dinner for cousin Billy" but, I really could not come up with considerable complaint on a late lunch outing with a close friend recently. We started off with Jack Stack's intention in mind however, we soon found out that the local barbeque typhoon was closed for renovations so, we headed across the street to the newly constructed Longhorn on Metcalf Avenue. True to fashion we were following in a family of at least five children into the steak house on a weekday at around four o'clock and we were greeted by a hostess who informed us that it would be a fifteen minute wait because the wait staff had to switch over. So...off to the bar we went and had no problem getting served right away and handed menus and drinks upon arrival. I decided on a glass of wine even though the wine list was less than stellar but, I wasn't really expecting much just maybe a little more than comparative to Shudder Home. Then came the main event, and to be honest at this moment I must admit I had never been to a Longhorn before and was ready for some meat, I went with a nicely portioned and priced sirloin cooked to a specified medium rare. As I was patiently waited on my steak I sampled the bread and it was warm and soft with a nice wheat flavor, I took the rest of the loaf home for reference. Then to compliment my sirloin I had chosen a house salad with a very classic blue cheese dressing which arrived first and was very satisfying. For my other side I upgraded my meal for the asparagus which was cooked perfectly, had a nice bite and was very buttery. I was not disappointed in paying more for it over mashed potatoes my backup choice. This first timer experience at a long time titian in the chain steakhouse territory was an overall enjoyable one that I cannot complain about, just me personally I would always choose a locally owned and operated joint such as Jess and Jim's in Martin City over a Longhorn or Texas Roadhouse. read more

Great place for a business lunch. Classic atmosphere with friendly attentive table service. Came at noon and there was no wait. I had the strawberry chicken salad and it was huge. So much fruit and lovely glazed nuts, feta cheese and tender chicken. I was full and didn't quite finish it. I blame the fresh baked bread... Which I enjoyed and don't regret one bit. My colleague ordered salmon with mashed potatoes and added on the Brussels sprouts. She insisted I try a few and she was right - they're fantastic. Things been going well lately, felt like getting out rather than cooking. Steak sounded good and LongHorn was close so went there. Good service, Jose took care of us and was very polite. I ordered the Outlaw ribeye with salad and sweet potato. My wife ordered Flo's Fillet with brussel sprouts and sweet potato. Fresh bread and butter was served, it was hot and delicious. My salad was cold and fresh, very good. Our sweet potatoes were good, the Brussel sprouts had a delicious sweet glaze on them. I ordered my steak Medium and told Jose that I liked just a little pink but not bloody. He confirmed that medium would probably be right. My steak had a nice char but it was overcooked and more like well done, cooked all the way through, and was a bit tougher than I like as a result. I thought maybe it would be better in the center and wish I would have cut into the center to check it first because I would have sent it back. My wife liked her fillet. We also ordered the sauteed mushrooms on the side which were good. Overall a little disappointed cause I was amped up for a great steak dinner and ribeye is my favorite cut. Oh well. UPDATE.......I went back to the restaurant the following day because I left my credit card behind. I spoke to the manager, Tina, and explained our experience. She was very understanding and replaced my meal by giving me gift cards equal to the cost. I am looking forward to going back and having a good steak dinner. read more

Long Horn Steakhouse does not disappoint. I love eating here and the food has never disappointed. This place is always busy which is a great sign for a restaurant. The restaurant they had in Lawrence, KS (my town) closed so I have to trek to nearby Olathe for my Longhorn fix. No problem because I will gladly travel for this food. There is never a long wait. The staff is pretty good about seating. There was one little hiccup when I made a reservation online. When I got to the restaurant they told me they weren't set up for the app yet. I stood my ground with them, though, and showed them how my reservation was confirmed on the app. Yes, I got a little fiery until I was seated. I thought they needed to stand by the app or not make the app accessible until it was functional. This is why I gave them four-stars. My favorites are their salads and French onion soup. So yummy. They never leave you hungry and the food is always top quality. I like their steaks and they have always been prepared according to instruction. I have never had to send a steak back. The service has always been top quality at Longhorn. I have never had any issues with service and I am one of those people who like everything on the side. lol. The decor and interiors are always pleasant and warm feeling. They typically have the rustic pseudo-Western feel which is very rich. Dark, lots of wood and it all comes together nicely. This place has been here now for about a year, and they have not let down their quality of service since opening their doors! Very well run establishment, with educated and attentive servers. We have never had bad service or any issues in many visits! The Spinach Dip app with Pita Chips is unreal, it does fill you up quick though! House salads with Honey Mustard dressing = money. We like their ribeyes, but recently I tried the Baby Back Ribs. Wow! Reminded me a lot of Houston's ribs that used to be on the Plaza. They are slow cooked the day before, then kissed in the grill to give a nice crust. They fall of the bone and the sweet bbq sauce acts like a glaze with some honey or other thickener. They give you an extra side of sauce too, which is a nice touch. This location typically is loud, but they have tall booths to help. They are always on a wait on the weekends from 5:45 on. Sat at the bar prior to seating & ordered the Prefect marg, got to pour it myself but not sure it had much tequila but watered down orange juice instead, not worth the price.
