This is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Frogtown, Los Angeles. I made a same day reservation on Open Table. Parking was free on the street but hard to find during dinner. They had $15 valet parking. The ground has small rocks, so keep this in mind before you decide to wear heels. The restaurant is dimly lit inside. There is a host at the podium. The bar counter is first come first serve. The greenery inside almost covers the place from looking like an empty warehouse. The outdoor seating is fine during sunset but otherwise gets really dark when the sun goes down. There are no views except your eating party. The menu was not impressive to me. It seemed like a place to share appetizers with a group. The price tag was also too high in my opinion. I only got the empanada and seafood tower. Seafood tower $95 - It looks underwhelming because they use a small tower. On the top shelf, the twelve oysters they shucked were quarter sized. I actually prefer small oysters though. I asked for hot sauce, and the hot sauce was the best thing I had all night. It was so spicy and flavorful. I added it to everything. The bottom shelf had the ceviche and aguachile. They brought a plate of 4 toastadas and a packet of saltine crackers. Shrimp empanada $19 - Hah, this was not worth $19. The empanada was chewy like churro. The shrimp was tender. The flavor was lacking. I added hella hot sauce. Gratuity of 20% is auto added to parties of 6 or more Credit card fee of 3% Bathroom available in two gender-neutral stalls. I can't see myself coming back.

This location is so big and very modern and vibey. We sat at the bar top, but walked to look at the outdoor seating which would be perfect for a nice day or evening where the temp is warm. The food was good, I'd say there were lots of options for the dietary restrictions we had. I would say maybe missing a little flavor here and there. My favorite dish was for sure the ceviche and the cdmx tostada. Lots of flavor on those two dishes. The service was great. The real standout was the servers. They were so helpful and friendly and really were super attentive. The servers were 10/10. Last thing I'll mention is that there was a 3% charge for paying with a card which was weird, so just want to flag! Overall I'd give this place a 3.5 if I could. The location is fun and vibes are good, servers are so great.

The atmosphere was not bad and the food was decent. However, I was disappointed to discover a 3% credit card surcharge only after reviewing my receipt. No one mentioned it when we were seated, and I didn't see any clear notice on the menu or at the table. If a restaurant chooses to add a credit card fee, it should be communicated upfront so customers can make an informed decision. Finding out afterward feels misleading and leaves a negative impression. While a 3% fee may not seem like much, unexpected charges tend to affect how customers feel about the overall experience. Unless the service is truly exceptional, fees like this can make people more inclined to leave a smaller tip to offset the extra charge. A little transparency would have gone a long way. I would have appreciated knowing about the surcharge before receiving the bill rather than discovering it on the receipt afterward.

Tucked away in a residential neighborhood in Frogtown is a hidden seafood gem that teleports you to Mexico. Combining the tastes of Baja California and Mexico City in fusion with Japanese flavors, you'll find Loreto. The aesthetic of the interior is industrial meets the desert. My party of four came for a birthday dinner and shared the following: * todo la Bahia (tower): seafood tower with a dozen oysters, a variety of ceviche and aguachilies served with tostada. Great to share to sample items. Rating - 9.5/10 * Japanese Wagyu aguachiles: if there's one appetizer you should order off the menu it's this. Flavorful, melts in your mouth. Rating - 9.75/10 * Bang Bang! Tostada - crowd favorite amongst the guys on our table. Was enjoyable , but a bit too saucy for my liking. Rating - 7.8/10 * atun picante - their version of a spicy tuna crispy rice. It was good. Would I order it again? Maybe. Would probably want to explore more of the menu prior. Rating - 8.25/10 * Branzino: the start of the show. Perfectly deboned and marinated. Served with rice and beans, quesadillas, fresh tortillas, a variety of salsas, avocado, and lime. Definitely a great item to share. Rating - 10/10 * Carrots: we wanted to order a vegetable to share. The carrots had a Smokey flavor and complimented the labneh it was layered on. Rating: 8.5/10 Parking: there's $15 flat valet and minimal street parking. Service: 10/10. Waiter was attentive and provided excellent recommendations. Also changed our plates frequently and made sure the table was clean. PS. The Micheladas are a must for drinkers.

When you can choose to go anywhere in LA for a dining experience, consider Loreto as one of your culinary stops. This is a seafood lovers dream, especially for those who love a bit of spice, creativity, and some south of the border flare. The ambiance is welcoming with touches of greenery, succulents, and cacti beautifully situated throughout the inside and outside dining areas. The patio is stunning, snag a table here if able. The service is friendly from the bar to tableside, with everyone pitching in to make your service and experience exceptional. You can sense a feeling of pride in the food that is being presented as it arrives to your table. Nothing was rushed, just how we like it. Our mezcal margaritas were delicious. You are able to customize it to your likings with additional flavors for no extra charge. You know we all like SWAG! Our server Alexa was an angel in human form. From the moment she greeted us, we knew we were in for an amazing experience. Thank you Alexa for giving us time to visit with one another and for delivering service with such a friendly and kind presence. Blah Blah Blah.... let's get to the meat and potatoes of this review or should I say, the ceviche and pulpo... For starters: Seafood Tower, also known as the Toda la Bahía. Pretty much a sampler of the most enticing raw seafood on the left side of the menu. Do not miss this. It was beautiful to admire and delicious to devour. We could have been completely satisfied with this and just enjoyed sipping our wine and laughing the night away. But NOOOOO... so here goes. Next up: Atún Picante: raw tuna served on top of crispy epazote rice, with just the right amount of spice from the salsa negra. Delicious. Get this. Pasta Agnolotti: Delicious tortellini-ish pasta filled with squash and lobster, topped with pepitas and salsa macha. Under the heading of Zarandeados (I had no idea it came with rice, black beans, salsas, tortillas, and quesadillas) we opted for the Pulpo. This is a whole octopus (without the head, mind you), grilled and served with accompanying salsas and all the sides. We were full but did our best to carry on. This was a beautifully presented dish but would opt for the Branzino next time. The pulpo was just a bit chewy and perhaps could have been charred a bit more. But who am I? Not a chef, but an Elite Yelper of 14 years who has had a fair share of pulpo. We were served a slice of the strawberry meringue dessert, apologies as I don't recall the proper name for this. It was fantastic. Light and refreshing. Having the Red Dining Book is a fun way to explore restaurants that you haven't tried before. I'm not sure that I would have known about Loreto if it weren't for this book. So grateful. This experience was so special and I will certainly come back with family. Thank you for this amazing memory and culinary delight. To my friends that treated me to my birthday dinner. I LOVE YOU.

I didn't expect to enjoy this place as much as I did. We had a date night here for our anniversary and it totally surprised me since I grew up less than a mile away in Atwater Village. I couldn't believe how expansive Loreto felt as we made our way in after parking in the residential neighborhood. During our entire meal it seemed as if we were transported to a totally different part of town. We shared a few appetizers before settling on the Branzino for the table. The staff from the entrance to our server were outstanding. Thanks, Loreto.

The Toda La Bahía (Tower) is well worth the investment with each bite better than the next

Over the years I've grown to become more and more wary when it comes to high end dining. When I was younger I didn't have the finances to be able to eat at these places so when I did I always wanted to maximize what I ate for the price I paid. As I've gotten older and my finances better that mentality hasn't changed much and it's proven to be the right way to think. I've been to many fine dining restaurants and I've always felt a high price and prestige doesn't mean small bites are justified. With my brother's birthday coming we decided to give Loreto a chance to wow us with high quality coastal Mexican cuisine and it delivered. Design/Vibe - Coastal California indeed Loreto is located in a strange amalgamation of industrial buildings and residential homes. With no parking lot of its own, instead relying on valet parking to move vehicles to a different area, you'll either have to valet park or find parking somewhere on the streets around it. When you walk towards the building the façade of the industrial building slowly starts to fade. As you walk through the entrance and past the inside dining room to the outdoor area you feel like you're in a coastal desert. With plenty of desert flora, low hanging trees, and seating with the same material that would breathe in such climates you feel like you're escaping from the busy city into a Baja vacation. Prices - $17 - $29 This price range is true for pretty much all food and drinks with some food like the Toda la Bahía (Tower) and Langosta Zarandeados being $95 & $82 respectively. But, is the price worth it? Food - Yes, the price is worth (most of) it As I mentioned before, prestige and high price doesn't justify small bites. Luckily, Loreto is easily growing its reputation for being a high quality and well executed menu while giving satisfying size dishes. The dishes are what they should be for what the price is. No small spoons of fancy presentation with little substance found on these plates. Instead, you find innovative techniques with familiar flavors. One of my favorite items is the Toda la Bahía. This is a two tiered tower of oysters, ceviche, aguachiles, and poached shrimp. Though the price is high everything feels worth it. It was so good I was tempted to get another one. The Empanadas de Camarón is fried perfectly and dressed with a sumptuous creamy sauce. Biting into one feels like comfort food and it'll be hard to take your attention away from it. If you do plan on getting a pasta I'd recommend getting the Tortellini. It is meaty, chewy in the best way, and the flavors melt into each other creating a nicely spiced, savory bite with the freshness of its ingredients highlighted harmoniously. If there is an item I would say isn't worth trying it would be the Mar-Esquites. I do love me delicious, creamy corn with fresh shrimp but for the price I would say this isn't worth trying. Conclusion - Special Occasions and Celebrations Loreto is a wonderful restaurant where the cuisine satisfies, the vibes are vibing, the diners are so LA, and the flavors slap. Though the bill was high we had a full dinner for 3 people and left completely satiated and satisfied. If you're celebrating anything, from birthdays to promotions, Loreto is a phenomenal restaurant to rejoice in your own revelry.

Loreto managed to surprise and delight me from start to finish. Located in Frogtown, I wasn't anticipating how big and beautiful the restaurant was. With its openaire style and small plates, it reminded me of restaurants in Mexico City. Our server, Ashley, was lovely and paced our meal perfectly, which I was deeply appreciative of. I started with the milkpunch, which was gorgeous thanks to its butterfly pea powder. It was sweet, but also had a surprising smokiness which created a beautiful balance, depth, and warmth. To start, we had the papaya ceviche, which was bursting with heat tempered with extraordinarily fresh scallops; a wonderful way to open up the palate. Next, we had the bang bang tostada which was truly great. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and the flavor was (pardon the pun) bang on the money. When deciding between the pastas, Ashley recommended the tortellini and I'm so happy she did. I was worried about portion size, but it was the perfect amount of food. Nice flavor with the lobster, but also interesting texture thanks to the pepitas. Would've loved it to be a served little warmer though. And finally, after having food envy from the table next to us, we had to finish with the mar-esquites, which was a kind of deconstructed street corn that had me in a chokehold. I'd come back just for the shrimp dishes. A great experience all around. 4.5/5

I went to dinner with my girlfriend to Loreto on a Friday night and it was AMAZING!!! We had the following: - agua chile negro: 5/5 - Shrimp Tacos: 5/5 - Pulpo Zarandeado: 5/5 - Carajillo: 4.5/5 All the seafood plates were fresh and VERY good! I recommend all three plates we had and even the dessert was really good!! The service was also great, we will definitely be coming back to this place!

Let me put you on to this hidden gem--Loreto's is a seafood-centric Mexican spot that is definitely worth checking out. When you pull in, there's valet available for $14, which makes things easy. The vibe is so cute--it honestly gave me Tulum, Mexico energy with lots of greenery, an open-face kitchen, a long bar for dining, a few indoor tables, and a spacious outdoor seating area. Our server, Loren, was very sweet and welcoming. She brought out our waters and menus right away and made us feel taken care of throughout. We started with the Toda la Bahía tower, and WOW--10/10. It came with a little bit of everything: plain and prepared oysters, Mazatlán shrimp, yellowtail sashimi, ceviche, aguachile, scallops, and more. Super fresh and perfect for sharing. We followed that with: * Empanadas de Camarón (shrimp and sea bass with cilantro crema and cabbage) * Soft Shell Crab (with avocado, salsa macha, chimichurri, and cured onions) * Atún Picante (tuna with crispy epazote rice, salsa negra, and avocado) Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. I was personally hoping for a bit more heat/spice, but overall the flavors were still on point. If you're into fresh seafood and a vibey atmosphere, this is definitely your spot. I'll absolutely be coming back.

Was looking forward to my Friday 8:15p resy for Loreto. Arrived shortly after 8:15p and checked in with the host who wasn't friendly nor engaging and asked us to wait by the bar until our table was ready. We waited a good 20 mins before a friendly hostess took us to our table. The restaurant was extremely lively, swanky, hipster, and alive. Absolutely loved the environment and vibe. We ordered an aguachile negro, jurel, CDMX tostada, atún picante, and shrimp taco. My top was the jurel - my my I'd go back just for the jurel ceviche. The aguachile negro had a flavor that didn't tickle my fancy and quickly because my least favorite. The shrimp tacos and CDMX tostada were good! I had hoped for more with the atún picante. The tostada shells themselves were delish. The fish was fresh and I really enjoyed the flavor profiles of the fish and their pairings. Our server was soft spoken, helpful, and nice. She delivered with the service. Though it started a bit bumpy, overall really enjoyed our time at Loreto and even had a celebrity sighting.

Had a great dinner at Loreto. Everything we ordered was really good. We tried the prepared oysters, shrimp ceviche, soft shell crab tacos, and the chorizo pasta, and every dish was flavorful and well executed. The ceviche was especially fresh and bright, and the tacos had a great crunch and balance of toppings. The drinks were also excellent and the service was very attentive without being overbearing. The atmosphere hits a really nice middle ground. It's casual enough for a relaxed dinner after work but still cozy and nice enough for a date night. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you're in LA.

But what happened today was handled so poorly that I feel compelled to share it. I have been a regular customer here for quite some time and have always spoken very highly of this place. I have brought many friends here and even celebrated my birthday at Loreto, which is the dinner concept they operate in the same location at night. I usually come here for lunch because the food is normally very good and it has been one of my favorite spots. Today was a complete disaster. I ordered two Tostadas Bonito and waited more than 50 minutes for them. After about 30 minutes I flagged the delay to the bartender/cashier because that is very unusual for this place. While waiting, I watched other customers receive the exact same dish even though they had arrived and ordered after me. When I asked about it, the bartender said he was only responsible for taking orders and was not sure why it was taking so long, but that the kitchen would work on it and bring the food to my table. After another 20 minutes I spoke with a server who said he would check on it. He later returned and said the manager would come talk to me. No refund or real solution was offered. The manager eventually came to the table, apologized, and said this should never have happened. She told me twice that she would bring me her card and contact information so she could take care of me the next time I came in. She even mentioned she remembered me from previous visits since I am a regular. She never came back. Eventually I left the restaurant and saw her sitting inside. She never bothered to return to the table or follow through on what she said. The situation was simply left unresolved. To make matters worse, we ordered two mezcal margaritas expecting to have them with our food, which took more than 50 minutes. Both drinks were served less than half full in the glass and still charged $19 each. I have ordered this same drink there many times before and the glass is normally almost full. When I mentioned it to the bartender who served them, he just smiled. I am attaching photos of the drinks exactly as they were served, without even having taken a sip. What is most disappointing is not only the wait, but how badly the situation was handled. No accountability, no effort to resolve the problem, and a manager who promised to follow up and simply never returned. For a place I have supported for years, recommended to many people, and celebrated special occasions at, this was honestly shocking. Sadly, after this experience, I will not be coming back and will not recommend it to anyone. I will also be letting friends who became regulars because of my recommendation know how this situation was handled.

I came by on a rainy Saturday to grab some food to go and was actually the only customer at the time. I ordered the aguachiles, mango shrimp ceviche, two shrimp tacos, and one fried fish taco. The aguachiles leaned pretty salty and the mango shrimp ceviche was on the sweeter side. The shrimp tacos were decent but nothing memorable. The fried fish taco was a bit over battered and tasted overcooked. Everything was edible, but it didn't give me that "I want to come back" feeling. I mainly came for the ceviche and aguachiles and those were the most disappointing parts of the meal. Maybe I just didn't order the right items, but this visit didn't really win me over.

We sat at the bar and recieved great service. They also remember my brother from visiting so often. We tried the Piri Piri Chicken, it was half a chicken, perfect for sharing. The seasonal snap pea salad with tarragon and mint leaves was refreshing and a great start. They do run out of pastel de natas, I believe it was once only served on the weekend but now weekly, They offer ginja and green wine, and they def didn't forget the iconic tiles you see everywhere in portugal. Shrimp was my favorite !

I really wanted to love the place, but I won't be back. There are so many similiar options that has better food options. Happy hour includes $10 margaritas and tinis, I ordered a margarita first 10/10 and then a dirty martini . We were seated close to the bar and saw my glass was set aside with olive juice and the bartender just poured the vodka over it - not shaken, disappointed because their olives were delicious; 4/10 on the tini. The fries were one of my faves other than that if YOU live nearby yeah worth it for HH but not for a 2 hr dinner. It's such a cute restaurant; great decor and vibes. Parking is a bit difficult we parked 2 blocks away. Staff was attentive, food was served quickly. Try it for yourselves see what you think ‍

Dried bread and dipping sauces were brought while we perused the menu. Our food came quick. First was the chicken soup we ordered as an appetizer. It was delicious! Warning - the red salsa side dish is super hot. We tested it first, added a small splash, and loved it. Next was a sliced beef and marinated onion sandwich. It was well filled and really tasty, our favorite of the night. The green salsa that comes with it is a perfect compliment - savory and spicy like a molé, but not too hot. We will order this again. Then came the beef heart, not a dish for everyone, but a personal favorite. Seasoned with a great dry rub and cooked on wood skewers, it was on par with the best yakitori I have ever had. What made it even better, however, were the sides. The hominy was perfectly chewy and seasoned. Mixed with the green salad, the potato chunks, and some of the green and white dipping sauces, well, it was an excellent compliment to the dense beefiness of the roasted heart chunks. OTOH, the salsa that comes with the beef heart, while full of chopped scallions and such, was far too sour for my taste. It was like pure lime juice. I tasted it and set it aside, only adding a few bits into my mix of sides. The final nice touch was the price. Total for three dishes was $40 before tax and tip. We will be back. The closest public parking lot is a couple blocks to the north, but we found a metered spot right out front. I didn't like that the meter needed a credit card or app, but that's the way things are going.

The portions were quite generous making the food great for sharing. They also provide complimentary toasted bread and great dipping sauces. What I tried: - Fried yucca - a classic and great way to start the meal - Arroz chaufa de mariscos - shrimp, squid, mussels and fried rice. This was yummy and easily large enough to share. However, the rice was a bit too much on the salty side - Tallarin saltado de carne - sirloin beef strips with spaghetti and sautéed with onions and tomatoes. So delicious, but I wish they were a bit more generous with the amount of beef given the price - Causa de Cameron acevichada - smashed potatoes with shrimp ceviche. Only available on Fridays/weekends. Beautiful presentation and tasted as good as it looked Overall a great spot to try Peruvian food in a comfortable, casual setting. Street parking or nearby public lots.

I got the fried tofu sandwich and the potatoes. There was a sign on the window that this particular location would be closing and the other one remaining open. The lady serving the food was very patient and friendly but the front window was bitter and rude to the point that you would rather not ask anything to avoid the interaction. I won't be going back due to this experience. Servers are the face of any establishment. I would put that guy at the dishwasher if he doesn't like talking to people. Not saying it's bad but the famous fish sandwich is not much different than a McDonald's one yet four times the price. Ambiance is fine.
