I got the fried tofu sandwich and the potatoes. There was a sign on the window that this particular location would be closing and the other one remaining open. The fried tofu was a great substitution for the fish sandwich. Prices were a bit steeper for the size and the wait was a little longer for the food to come out, but staff was very nice and everything tasted fresh. I brought my mom and brother on Saturday April 25th around 12PM to show them around and unfortunately the person that took our order was rude and had no patience for innocent questions like "do you have sugar packets", I didn't get the persons name but he looked ethnically Philippine. The lady serving the food was very patient and friendly but the front window was bitter and rude to the point that you would rather not ask anything to avoid the interaction. I won't be going back due to this experience. Servers are the face of any establishment. I would put that guy at the dishwasher if he doesn't like talking to people. Finally tried this Michelin bib gourmand spot. Food was tasty, not amazing. I think the Pacific striped bass they used for the fried fish sandwich tasted ok. Crispy, flaky, nice texture. But it was quite expensive, basically $20 for something as big as my small hand. Nori potatoes were all right too, but the garlic aioli tasted better. Though, the sauce could've been more flavorful. I think the smoked fish dip (Vermillion rockfish) had the most flavor and was actually great with the potatoes. 3 fish sandwiches, nori potatoes appetizer & fish dip cost nearly $100 which is wild! Just as another yelper mentioned, I also didn't like how one of the staff ignored us as we were waiting to order at the tiny kiosk window, until someone else showed up at the window. Bathrooms are unavailable even at the attached market (actually, the coffee shop a few stores down also said the same, yikes). You have to cross the street to Lassen's. I got the Little Fish slider at Eeeeatscon and it was very disappointing. I've always wanted to try the real thing in Echo Park but thought I would give the slider a chance at Eeeeatscon and it took 30 to 40 minutes to come out just to have moldy bread. I bit right into it and actually swallowed some before realizing it was mold. I went back and told them and they compensated me with some olives. Take that how you will, but after trying this slider, I don't think I will be trying the actual restaurant. The pickles added some acidity, but I think tartar sauce would've been a better pairing. While the fish was fried very well and tasted good, the sandwich as a whole didn't go together for all the reasons said in previous reviews that I should have read: Fish was too salty, cheese was not even melted, plenty of perfectly placed pickles of I couldn't taste them and I couldn't even taste the tartar now that I think about it. This sandwich is the best fish sandwich I've ever had. It's like an idealized version of the filet o' fish. Nice soft bun, American cheese and Kewpie Mayo. Came for breakfast to try the brown cheese toast with no one ahead of me in line and ended up waiting 20-25 minutes for a cold slice of toast, cold butter, and cold cheese. Not sure what took almost half an hour to make, maybe they were having an off day. The toast was very bland, with very thick slices of butter that overwhelmed the taste of the cheese. The Fish Congee and Crispy Nori Potatoes with garlic aioli sauce were equally EXCELLENT!!! I could easily enjoy the congee any time of day. It soothed my soul and brought a smile to my face. Scooping into the warm rice porridge and finding the striped bass was like panning for gold. It was just too good!!! We typically eat a Filipino dish at home called Arroz Caldo, which is a chicken rice porridge. The Fish Congee was a delight and I hope to try to replicate this in our household. Or, just come back!! Bread was also fluffy and soaked up the sauce nicely. The ham and cheese sandwich was not quite to my taste but the serving was generous compared to the shrimp sandwich. Nori potatoes were crispy yet creamy and the mayo was perfect. I wish the seaweed flavor was stronger though! Cream top Americano had a great mouthfeel and the sour cream notes came through. Espresso was strong and delicious too. The cappuccino was ok, and the Elsinore latte was too sweet so I preferred the Americano with cream top.
