Great place for breakfast. Loved the slug and bacon cheese. We were out of town era but ate here every morning

I got 2 bagels, a farm scram and grandpa goren...while they were good, paying $38 for 2 bagels(+2 coffees) still haunts me at night.

I noticed this old town cafe was always busy so I made the good decision to pop in for a treat one morning. My go to drink to determine the quality of a coffee shop is a mocha. I like it just so, with good quality chocolate and I do not like the Starbucks mocha. I ordered a small loco mocha and it was absolutely devine. I will be returning to the cafe again. I didn't order food, but the menu was great and it all looked yummy. Looking forward to another visit. read more

Essentially the same operation as in Eureka, but with more students and less homeless folks at this location (although given the appearance of some HSU students, this is easily mistaken). Bagels aplenty, with your choice of toppings. Love the Guac and lox, love the Grampa Goren. Scrambagels, too if you want that. As someone in another review noted, though, the prices here are a bit steep. Especially given this location's proximity to the Co-Op, you could easily just pop over there and buy the ingredients and make your self a basic bagel for much less than what Los Bagels charges. The one big drawback of this location is parking. If you can find it on the street, do that. The lot is small and weird and hard to maneuver in. read more

These are the bagels of my youth, the bagels of my nostalgia. So when I visited Arcata with friends recently, I insisted on going to Los Bagels. Problem is nostalgia has a way of letting you down. Having grown and traveled and eaten many a bagel elsewhere (including New York, but don't let anyone fool you about things being different in NYC, that's BS), these bagels just don't quite hold up. They're small, but I'm not one to judge on size, but compared to other places, these bagels run a bit diminutive. But what I found alarming was that to make up for the size of the bagel, they slather on enough cream cheese to choke a hippopotamus. And then charge you a ton for it. Maybe it's a secret menu thing, but if I could pay half the price for a third of the schmear, I'd be all about that. My friends were unimpressed. Not a bad bagel, a bit dense, over-cheesed, overpriced. As with almost everything in Arcata, I'm glad it's still there. My childhood is almost completely intact out on that coastal enclave, and the bagels at LB are a less-than-flat circle. read more

Just okay. Better than your standard grocery store bagel but nothing to write home about.

I am a native New Yorker visiting my son here in Holiday in Arcata. I grew up in New York City and so I am very particular about my bagels and lox. As everyone should be. I thought the location was nice and the service was wonderful. Everybody was very friendly and there was a great fresh smell coming from the bakery. The bagels were as close as you can get to a New York style bagel without having access to the water or the dough that New York City bagels have, and the salmon and the various spreads were all very tasty and the bagels were well prepared. I enjoyed the meal and recommended as a good bagel spot for breakfast when you're visiting Arcata. read more

I ordered a bacon scram on an onion bagel with light cream cheese. The menu shows the bacon scram as $8.50. I paid $13.25. Then when I got my order it was a bacon scram on a plain bagel with butter. I told them I ordered cream cheese and they said that's not what I was rung up for but fixed it anyways. I didn't notice it wasn't the right bagel until I was already eating it and I didn't feel comfortable taking it back to tell them it was wrong again. Good and safe covid set up, outdoor seating available. The bagels and good and the ingredients seem pretty fresh, I just don't know if my guac and lox bagel was worth $13. Los Bagels seems like a really cool bagel shop. I was a big fan of the decor and atmosphere inside. Unfortunately I wasn't a huge fan of the bagels. They were alright, but not my style. I prefer a lighter bagel than what they have here, which are flavorful, but pretty small and dense. read more

2 stars because the food is amazing , I've been coming here since I was a child but lately the service has gone extremely down hill!! The customer service is terrible the employees act like it's a disservice to take your order, there's 5 employees behind the counter and it still takes 20 to 30 minutes in line to just order (with a very short line!). I've had this same experience every time I've come here and I didn't want to complain because I figured it was a difficult time during covid so I wanted to give them a break, but after today's visit I thought I should let the business know they need to hire happy employees! read more

I had high hopes for this place, as many friends had recommended it. The girl who took my order seemed flustered and came off as snobby, and I thought ok, no biggie. I wait 30 minutes, see plenty of people who ordered after me get their bagels and try to brush it off and leave it to them being busy. I finally approach someone at the counter about my bagel and the look on his face said "shoot, we forgot to make it" instead of admitting that, he claims someone probably took it by mistake, which wasn't likely as I was standing by the pick up counter during the 30 minutes I'd been waiting. I ask for a refund and the cashier offers me a free pastry...couldn't you have just made me my bagel instead of giving me a pastry? Definitely not coming back. read more

Best bagels I've had. And very kind and wonderful people. Recently they shipped bagels to a friend who was at the end of his life -- they helped me ship a package of his favorite bagels and Larrupin sauce to him. I was worried the bagels would not get there in time, but they did -- I was kept apprised of the shipment which really helped me process which really meant a lot to me. I am so tired of walking into an Arcata business with a smile on my face and walking out feeling horrible due to the cruelty or indifference of the employees therein. Los bagels has been serving decent food for many years, and I've been a customer for most of my 33 years in Arcata. I've had an equal split of positive and negative experiences but lets just talk about today, the absolute last time I will spend $15 to start my morning. (my average) I walked in today, 2/2/2011 at about 2:15pm. I was the only one in line. The tall gentleman behind the counter was too busy to help so I waited patiently with a smile on my face. After a few minute a girl walks in behind me. Another gentleman more modest in stature came out from the back of the store, and I was excited at the prospect of being served a bagel. He chatted up the girl behind me in line, an apparent friend of his, and discussed with her what kind of bagel he could "hook her up" with for free. Is this really happening, I think to myself. I am being completely ignored by both employees now at the front of the store, while the girl behind me is giving her order for her free lunch. I wait a few more minutes to see if the ridiculousness of this situation registers with anybody else, or if either employee will make a move to communicate with me, a waiting paying customer, or even take my order. Nope, I stand there ignored and eventually walk out dejected, empty handed, and once more having my spirits crushed by the cliquey, too cool for thou, and just plain crappy attitude of employees at a business at which I am trying valiantly to spend my money. Thankfully there is amazing ice cream across the street, and the smile soon returned to my face. read more

A decade or so ago, my husband lived in Arcata and he's been telling stories of his Saturday morning visits to Los Bagels since I've known him. So, when we finally visited together, it was a given that we'd make our way to Los Bagels for breakfast...twice. The first day, my husband had some monstrosity of a bagel with cream cheese, carrots, olives, and green onions. It was like a really terrible smelling car wreck--hard to look away. I had a salt bagel with cream cheese and slug slime. Yum. The next day we both had multigrain bagels with scrambled eggs and cheese with slug slime. Again, yum. Wow. Jewish-Mexican foodie fusion. Who knew? Ole! The bagels here are rings of dense, chewy perfection available in a range of flavors to satisfy any craving. I devoured a toasted garlic bagel shmeared to the gills with cream cheese, lox, capers and red onion. Washed it down with a Mexican hot chocolate/coffee blend and managed to catch some sunshine at the same time due to the outdoor seating. Yes! Excellent assortment of smoked fish inluding salmon, albacore, whitefish and trout. If you aren't in a fishy mood - try the guacamole on jalapeno bagel. Don't miss the wall of family photos or beautful mural on the adjacent building. This place was so kick ass. My friend and I went on a tiny road trip before school started and he recommended this place for breakfast. I'm used to having my OJ, Tea and bagel with spread come to around $6-8 in San Francisco. SO you can imagine how shocked and happy I was that a bagel, spread, huge tea and small Oj cost me $4 including tax and tip. Los Bagels has been my favorite bagel shop in Arcata for the past six years. I only go once every few weeks because I don't want it to get old. It is a very interesting Mexican-Jewish infused bagel shop. Los Bagels not only has about twelve different types of bagels to choose from, they also have a variety of well-made and delicious pastries, muffins, breads, and treats (both savory and sweet). I always get a cup of their dark roast when I come. I have heard that their lattes, mochas, and other espresso drinks are made with care and quality ingredients. When I first started eating here, I would get the rosemary parmesan bagel toasted with cream cheese. You really can taste the rosemary. I have since switched around multiple times to the jalapeño, then to the slug (a long bagel rather than a round one with their Slug Slime on it), to onion, then cheddar (when they had it!), and now I am currently addicted to the multi-cultural bagel with their smoked tofu spread, which is a whole wheat everything bagel with a light, smooth tofu spread that they make in-house. A yummy vegan delight! Their scrambagels are also very good, though can be a little dry without any hot sauce or jalapeño jelly additions. They have a list of bagel options that are very creative and delicious, such as the cucumbin (bagel of your choice with cream cheese, cucumbers, and Larrupin mustard) and the tomonion (bagel with cream cheese, tomatoes, and red onion). I've always wanted to try one called the Veggie Bagel, and it comes with many veggie toppings including an olive tapenade! Certain toppings such as green onion, Slug Slime, and red onion are free to add to your bagel when you're creating your own. For the meat eaters, they have crazy bagels that include salmon, like the sushi bagel, and turkey. The options are literally endless. A word of caution, though. They are never stingy with the amount of cream cheese they put on! When I get cream cheese on a bagel, I always ask for half the amount they usually put. Often times, they charge less for half cream cheese, too. The service is often wonderful and cheerfully done. However, the last time I went, I waited about 15 minutes for my bagel (which is a long time for Los Bagels, mind you) and it never came. I had to go back up and remind them. The girl apologized, and offered me a pastry from the pastry case. I declined, but was grateful that she offered me a free treat. Perhaps the girls were new, since I haven't seen them working there before. Overall, I love Los Bagels. You never leave hungry or disappointed. read more

Found this place while on our way to Oregon. We are huge bagel fans & always on a hunt for a yummy bagel shop. First off, cute on the outside and the inside, love the vibe, parking was easy, was a little bummed they didn't have avocado - but they had guacamole. To be honest the thought of guacamole on my cream cheese bagel didn't sound appetizing but I went for it & it was a smart decision. The guacamole was so fresh and flavorful! Staff is all friendly & helpful, they have wide a variety of drinks to choose from, and they're pretty quick even when busy. Only complaint was the 2 of our bagels together was over $16... Why!!!!!!!!!!!!!! did I try this place AGAIN? YUCK! I really need to shake this self inflicted torture crap. I should have just stopped at Starfucks. I mistakenly ordered a smoked salmon bagel, meant to get a lox bagel. For $8.50! Yikes! I threw away the peppered orange nastiness that littered my bagel and ate the cream cheese and dense bread out of my topless, joke of a "to-go" container that exposed my non-jewish bagel to the elements. Here's a secret, a to go container, if I may skool you, must have a top. How the fuck am I supposed to carry it into work with my coffee cup, purse and lunch bag? How the fuck am I supposed to put the damn "tray" that you call a to go container, into my lunch box/bag especially considering it has sticky cream cheese exposed without getting crap all over it??? I'm pretty sure they make eco-friendly, tree-hugging, gluten-free, bio-degradable, fuckin self destructing, hemp based to go containers that have fucking tops! GET THEM! After this debacle, for $8.50, I instead purchased a bag of 6 tasty Thomas bagels, a container of cream cheese and packet of good quality lox that lasted me the 5 working days of the week, I had breakfast each day and it cost me $1.70 per day... oh and I didn't give myself attitude each time I served it to myself, much like the ball jugglers serving up the overpriced yeast at Los Booogles.... read more

Blame customer for two employees lack of short term memory. My toasted order sat on the to go area until frozen because they could not remember it was for here then blamed me because they called it out. When I heard it called out I saw the waiter walk past the pickup counter so got up and looked there to see a different order. After quite awhile walked around to the front and saw a wrapped item on the to go counter. When asking if it was mine I was met with 'I called it out' and a quick back to my face. The employee watched me look for the order, assumed her memory was accurate, probably hated calling out orders, got sick of re-calling out orders, now is vindictive to people when they come up to the counter late for an order, the pattern is so engrained that it is irrelevant that she placed the order there by her mistake and it is a sad display of a lacking character in that she did not as a customer service standard be polite and make it right. I have eaten dozens of their bagels over the years and have to say they are probably the worst bagel store I have ever been to in America and are a disgrace to bagels. The bagels are super dense and they only sell mini size bagels not full size and they charge more then a normal sized bagel from anywhere else. Absolutely ridiculous! I felt like I was in the twilight zone. They also microwave their eggs which Im not a fan of and also charge more then places that cook them. Thieves! Think of Los Bagels as one of those places that requires mandatory attendance when in Arcata. No, you can't leave. I don't care if you're sick. Oh you have a doctor's note? Does mandatory sound like some other word aside from mandatory to you, foo? This is ish ain't optional. Ok, prepare to have your ass kicked in the best way possible. The fresh bakes bagels are AMAZING. Like everything? The slug bagel is the way to go. Don't like non-circular bagels? Try the multi-cultural (a round, wheat everything bagel). The jalepeno bagels are great too. Shooot, they're ALL good. Strapped for cash? Go with my personal favorite order: Slug. Toasted with cream cheese, larrupin (don't ask just get it), and slug slime (slug slime sounds gross but is actually orgasm-inducing). Feeling shmancy? Get a sushi bagel! Even cream cheese with guac will punch you in the face with goodness. The staff is always really nice too. I eat these every chance I get. This week I've had 3 and it's only wednesday.
