Hands down some of the best mexican food I have ever had and their prices are so reasonable. Also the margarita on the rocks was made perfectly. This was our first visit and we were very impressed we first heard about this place through a catering deal on Breakfast Tacos at the church when we found out where they came from we went there for Breakfast today and it is a great deal!. you can get 3 Tacos for only 2.49 0.20 cents per taco for additional ingredients like cheese they also have a 2 egg plate with your choice of meat beans and potatoes for only 2.99 yes 2.99 and a Texas Breakfast with scrambled eggs and bacon with pancakes and beans and potato for 4.50 it is a great deal! Guadalajara is good a taqueria. Food is solid and the staff is pleasant. Will find more Mexican's and Americans in here (a good thing for a Mexican restaurant). Their food is Jalisco style so a little less spicy than Tex-mex. It is nothing like the junk in California so in other words, good food. This place has cheap but good food. My family eats here just about every weekend for breakfast. Great deal on the breakfast tacos and plates. Their pancakes are good too! The only complaint any non-hispanics might have is that all the TV's are on Spanish speaking channels. It is a Mexican restaurant though, so it can be overlooked. They also only have canned soda, so no free refills. Stick with the iced-tea if you're as thirsty as I am. read more

Got up hungry after yesterday's game. We wanted a Mexican breakfast, and this place was not far from our hotel. Ordered agua fresca de limonada and huevos rancheros. My husband ordered iced tea a menudo grande. My scrambled eggs had a wonderful warm salsa on top, but the eggs were overcooked and tough. The side of beans was warm for about one minute then got cold. The five big chunks of potatoes that also accompanied the dish were dry. The agua fresca was really good here. The menudo had a good color but was thinner than I like it. I suspect the lack of heartiness stems from the absence of hominy/pozole in the soup. Pozole will break down a bit as it stews, and it lends to the thickening of the body. The menudo lacked oregano and garlic. There was a lot of chile ancho flavor, and not much else, so it was very bright. The iced tea had a hint of tamarindo. The tortilla chips served before the meal come from a package. The corn and flour tortillas were not fresh, but I have yet to find ANY restaurant in Austin that serves fresh tortillas. The servers are very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant is clean, including the bathrooms. Hence, the 2 stars. I hope this review is helpful! read more

I regularly get the gorditas with a variety of fillings. It's true that they are not very strongly flavored, however they give you a good selection of salsas and limes and other add-ins so that you can make them taste just the way you like them. Last time I got the steak ranchero. It isn't a steak per say, it's roughly cut up beef from what appears to be a milenesa round. The tomato and chile marinade was tasty on it's own, but as with other dishes you add a dollop of sour creme, some chopped salad greens, lime juice, and of course salsa. You can get bottles of Cholula or Habrenaro to add other flavors. You wind up with a taco the way you want it and not just the chef's favorite food. You can afford to have a drink with your meal. read more

The service is always great. The staff is very friendly and is always checking to make sure everything is good. The breakfast is definitely better than the lunch or dinner but I've never been disappointed either way. The salsa is fresh but the chips could be better. The price is very reasonable. I normally go for the breakfast. The price is great the food is good for the price. I wouldn't recommend the queso it always is watery. However, the migas is tasty, the charro beans are delicious (spell check doesn't understand Spanish) and the staff is always super quick and works together to get the orders out. My friends and I go to Taqueria Guadalajara about once a month. It is a casual, relaxed place. I'd define their food as more "traditional" Mexican food as opposed to TexMex or California Mex. So if your sole definition of Mexican food is served at the likes of Fonda San Miguel or Manuel's (both of which I like also), your visit to Guadalajara is doomed from the start. I've had a few times when service has moved at a crawl, but overall service is prompt and friendly. We are always there earlier in the day... like late breakfast, early lunch, and I tend to stick with my favorite food items there... so I can't actually critique much variety, although they do have a a lot of choices here that you won't find at un restaurante de TexMex. Chips have always been fresh and crispy, and the salsa is fresh with just enough zing to be interesting but not chokingly hot. The salsa often has fresh cilantro in it, which is a plus for me. For breakfast, coffee is good and refilled generously and I love their migas. Remember, this is not fussy food, so you'll get a basic plate of eggs nicely mixed with tortilla strips, onion, diced chili peppers, tomatoes and queso blanco. The migas come with potatoes, refried beans and extra corn tortillas. Add lots of salsa to your potatoes, scoop the beans up with a rolled flour tortilla, and you've got breakfast perfection! I also really enjoy Guadalajara's gorditas. Usually I get chicken or picadillo gorditas and the meat comes tucked between two nice fat gorditas with lettuce, sliced tomato and sour cream. As far as staff and many diners go, this is very much an "English as a second language" place, which I consider a good sign when I have a taste for more traditional Mexican food. Will you be wowed here by hovering waitpeople, complicated food and palatial restrooms? No, non, nada, zip. But that's not why you go to Taqueria Guadalajara. read more

This is a hard review to write. Their food is exceptional and the servers are working hard every time I am in. The issue I have, every time we come here our food comes out at different times. It seems like there is a lot of confusion in the back. One person will be done eating and another person at our table has not received their food yet? Just had the worst experience ordering a to go! The lady tried charging me $37.00 + for what should of cost around $21.00. I told her that doesn't seem right. She couldn't figure out how to use the calculator. I ended up leaving without any food and now I have to check with my bank to make sure I wasn't charged for something I didn't receive. When I told her that I wouldn't ever be back her response was "who cares". She never said she was sorry, her coworker behind her mouthed sorry. I went there on Sunday looking forward to a decent juevos rancheros meal. My guy ordered the "pozole" or what they called the soup they brought out. It was watery and contained a lot of fat. My juevos rancheros was mediocre at best- and I've had my fair share of this yummy plate at several other restaurants. Servers were nice, but actual service was sub par. Love this place and have been coming here for years. It helps that it's right around the corner from where we live. I've never had anything bad on their menu and their breakfast tacos are the bomb! The Migas plate and the huevos ranchero are pretty darn good as well! Carne Asada is done just right.
