Come here at least once a week. Good food and the best margaritas in town. Went there at lunch yesterday (Wednesday ) so we could have Rosa wait on us. She has waited on us for years. There was a big yellow sigh that said (closed until further notice). Does anybody know what's going on. I know they are short on help. First let me note that I have lived around the Austin area for most of my life and their mexican food is nothing to brag about...I would rather go to a small hispanic based town on the outskirts to get mexican food than the city... With that said, we LOVE this place! My husband is a fine dining Chef currently working in Corpus, but we chose to move here to Rockport as we have always loved this little town. We have struck out on many of the places we have tried here so far, but we have always had great food/service at Los Comales. Queso is yummy..chips are excellent...staff is attentive and doesn't ignore us because they don't know us...they are good to our son...which is VERY important when you dine out with a 2 year old..fajitas, A++. Enchildas, 4 stars...drinks...perfect! Last time we went with my mom they had our food out in 10 minutes and the place was packed! We take all of our guests here and recommend it whenever we get the chance.. Great work guys!! read more

Best Mexican food in Rockport! It is a little loud due to the margaritas being so delicious but the food and service are both excellent! I usually order the Fajitas la diabla(hope I spelled that right) but really you can't go wrong no matter what choice you make. read more

First time visit, ordered the tacos al pastor that come on small corn tortillas, based on the description and the photo in the menu. Yes, the photo. Dumb, right? The cilantro was all dried-up chopped stems, the beautiful sliced avocado in the picture turned out to be three random small brown chunks of an avocado way over the hill. Both of these I would have thrown out at home. What a surprise in a restaurant. The tacos looked fine but were sweet and bland. Two good things: The small children in our group were immediately served small complimentary bowls of queso, just about their favorite food. And the employees were very pleasant, which means a lot. But not enough to make us want to go back. Too bad Rockport has so few good places to eat, and those are not open for dinner. read more

Nobody in my party was disappointed with their food ( we had a party of seven). Price is very affordable too. The only reason they didn't get 5 stars is because the retaurant could use some updating. We ate at Las Comales on the first day of a girls getaway. We have eaten there many times and have loved it but this time two out of three got sick. Two of us had a beef taco on our plate and all the other items were the same on all three of our plates. The two of us who had the tacos got sick that night and the weekend was ruined. I love this place. I eat here at least two or three times a month. They have great service and the food is flavorful. I don't like mushrooms but that's what they use for seasoning and it tastes great. I try to get something different each time I'm here and I haven't been disappointed yet. read more

The verde enchiladas are heaven! Usually I go for lunch, the servers are always nice and helpful, even if they do get a little busy.

I ordered the fajita (Beef) enchiladas, it came out cold. The enchiladas are merely some chopped, tough skirt steak wrapped in a tortilla with some watery chili and cheese on top. There is no spice to anything. My wife had the chicken stuffed, fried avocado. It's basically a very large cheese bomb that has been breaded and fried, There is an avocado and some chopped chciken in there, but who cares when you are trying to get through 3 lbs of cheese to find it. The plate also comes with a flour tortilla with some tough, cold fajita meat in it--no spice, no chili-just a cold tortilla with some meat. The tortilla soup defies any resemblance to tortilla soup, very sad. The bottom line is, you know you are in a bad mexican restaurant when they are too lazy to make their own frijoles refritos, and too lazy to make their own tortillas. You know it's bad when you arrive and there is not a single hispanic customer eating there. The service was good, however I suppose they know the food is crap because no one dares to ask, "how is everything ?". read more

Unique.....not just another Tex-Mex place...it's better ! Using fresh ingredients, and even fresher Ideas, Los Comales offers a wide variety of food to choose from, at a very reasonable cost. This restaurant offers a large amount of seafood dishes, very different from your normal mexican food place. They are priced very well, some entrees are very cheap ($6-8) , while your more extensive entrees cost a little more, however, you will most definitely NOT leave hungry. They start you out with and endless supply of chips and salsa (red and green, both of which are very tasty). THen you receive this menu, which is almosta book, to peruse. My husband favors the shrimp cocktail and the El Yucateco .... which is an eggplant boat (I think fried) then stuffed with crab, shrimp etc, and chile con queso. My favorite is the beef fajita stuffed avocado (fried). UMMMMMMM Good. Their ranchero enchiladas are very good. Their margaritas are oh-so -yummy. read more

Los Comales was our go to place for Mexican food in Rockport. We really don't care for the atmosphere in the restaurant, and have always enjoyed sitting at the bar to eat our meal. On our last visit we were informed that they no longer allowed you to eat in the bar area due to it being too busy for the bartender to keep up with. Our last visit will be our last visit. The Marleigh here is absolute fire. You can feed 3-4 people with it. Shrimp taste like lobster. I will be back.

My family and I were spending labor day weekend in Rockport and decided to eat at Los Comales around 3 pm. No one greeted us at the door so I went to the bar/cashier and asked to be seated. She told us that they had just been slammed and that the kitchen was 45 minutes behind. We said that was okay and she sat us. Our waiter seemed to be the only one that was really busy. The other waiters and managers didn't seem too busy. We ordered a couple of beers, chocolate milk, & some waters. Drinks came out after 10 minutes, but no beer. We then waited for 30+ minutes for our waiter to TAKE our order. Ten minutes after that we noticed that he was just putting in the order. So, after an hour of waiting with no beer and an order that had just been sent to the kitchen we left! The chips and salsa were great. The food looked good. Wish we could have tried it. BTW that evening my daughter started throwing up. The only thing she had that my son didn't was the chocolate milk. He said he didn't like the way it tasted. read more

I was disappointed with this restaurant. There were many tables available but people were being held at the door in anticipation of a party that arrived almost an hour later. We finally got seated and the waitress got our drink order. When she came back we placed our food order. She rolled her eyes at my boyfriend when he said his son was not hungry and did not want to eat. She then stormed off to put in our order. When our food was finally delivered, the man delivering the meal threw my fried avocado on front of me with no word of "excuse me" or "hot plate". The avocado was undercooked and hard. Very bland food and it is obvious they are buying as cheap a food as possible. We had fajitas and the lettuce was wilted, meat was obviously a commercial grade that wouldn't even pass as "select", veggies also were not fresh. Waitress really tried but didn't even know that margarine is not real butter and when we asked for real butter they didn't have any. This place needs some real lessons in high quality, fresh Mexican food like you get in San Antonio. Obviously no competition. Very good salsa very good food. Taking away one star for slow service. We were greeted at the door and promptly seated. Our drink order was taken right away and chips and salsa were right behind that. Now is when the waiting begins. It took what seemed like forever to finally get our food. We finished our meal and the waiting began to have the check brought to us. Before our meal was brought out the waiter was refilling our drinks and telling us it wouldn't be much longer but after we finished our food he just seemed to disappear. We finally got his attention and he brought the check but with a good server you shouldn't have to do that. Probably won't eat here again because I don't like wasting my time. read more

This is a favorite for our family. I take my parents here about 1x per month. My parents love the frozen margaritas - and I suspect I would too if I wasn't the designated driver. We usually split the beef fajitas, but have enjoyed may different menu items. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is great. I couldn't help but notice that the red sauce is just like Pappasitos and the green sauce is just like Ninfas. If you like either one of those restaurants, you'll love Los Comales. read more

The food is pretty good. I like the salsas and the chips were like any other tex-mex chips. I had fajitas and they were good as well. I would go back for the food but the restaurant itself was extremely dirty and loud. A little barefoot and dirty boy who looked like he had been playing outside of the restaurant all day continuously walked through the restaurant still without wearing shoes. He appeared to be a son of one of the waitresses. Very cute kid, but the lack of shoes in a restaurant is unacceptable. If the place could be cleaned up a bit it would help. read more

This used to be our favorite. Great food, good service. Now there seems to be an effort to ignore visitors. We were in town for the annual Arts Festival July 4-5, 2015. The festival closed at 5PM on Saturday. We arrived at Los Comales at 5:45 and were told they had already closed. Last year we called at 8:30PM to see if tables were available. They said to come over, only a short wait. We arrived 20 minutes later. SORRY WE'RE CLOSED. The Arts Festival is advertised by Rockport on billboards in San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
