Good food they made us wait for a bit but the food made up for it. The fajitas mixtas were delicious.

Seriously this is a must stop when visiting from the Bay Area whether we are passing through to Monterey or visiting family in Salinas! I can't believe I haven't written a review! My older brother took us years a couple years ago and I first had their kora shrimp we always wonder how they make it not sure if it's fried or grilled in the oven but it's mind blowing and deliciousness the sauce they use omg nothing we ever had finger licking good! We ask for shell on with head to get the most flavor. They serve it with cucumbers, avocado and oranges that bring out the flavors even more! Yesterday I placed a pick up order for these packed with flavor shrimp and also ordered their mango ceviche and octopus and shrimp cocktail! All were amazing and loved by my family! Talk about a seafood festival! Portions are huge to me and wow they do not skimp on the seafood!! I've dined in to and every time the customer service is amazing! I'm not Mexican but when I dine in they make me feel at home and it's fun watching them do karaoke on Friday nights I been there!!! Bold statement: this is the best Mexican food I've had in California. Authentic, bursting with flavor, just wow. Great service, too! Food is good here, but what's the point of giving non flavored carrots on the side. Those are the nastiest carrots in the country or maybe the world. I'm sure they know it as they give lots of them. Kinda confusing when you walk in the first time. There is a counter and I saw several people standing in front so I assumed it's where you order. It's a cozy place blaring mariachi music, which I love but maybe turn it down a few decibels. I looked at a very small menu that I guess were specials. I ordered 3 carne asada soft tacos and a coke. She was serving everyone chips and salsa and taking their order to them. When my order came up it was wrapped in foil like to go. I didnt ask it to go. Maybe it was a hint. I sat down and she asked if I wanted my coke opened. I had to ask for chips which she seemed upset that I asked her. The tacos were mediocre nothing fabulous. Grilled meat not very seasoned. With a half of fresh jalapeno and grilled onions. The salsa was not very hot. But flavorful. The food was typical and the service was horrible. I am honestly so tired of restaurants thinking I'm stupid. I asked for a veggie burrito with very specific items. I get home what do I get ? Rice with salsa roja (and that is it!). Is it that difficult to make a burrito with rice beans queso fresco pico de gallo and avocado ?! No I'm sure it's not. Then why do I get a rice and salsa roja burrito! This place needs to listen to read the reviews on here and make some major changes. They need to start appreciating their customers and serve them what they pay to eat. read more

Decided to stop by to order tacos after I was told they were good, I order tacos and nachos. Simple order right? They messed up the tacos and the nachos. Usually I don't fuss but they messed up to the point it was embarrassing! The staff clearly doesn't care about anything but chit chatting with each other, as I witnessed while I was Waiting for my food for over an hour! They also forgot to bring 2 tacos I ordered. This is my second time coming here, the first time I came I had a very pleasant experience. I ordered their tacos which where very good. I really enjoyed that they offered the option to choose between fresh made tortillas or regular tortillas. On my second visit I ordered some langonstinos a la pendejada. The shrimp was good, very spicy. The service was good both times although when it's busy the service can be lacking. Overall I had a pleasant and enjoyable meal. read more

When I asked for a cup of ice it never got brought to me had to ask a different waiter. Horrible service all around. I've been going to this restaurant for a while now. Nearly since its doors opened after the previous restaurant closed. This place was great at first with the amount of food served, ratio in items (burritos for example) and customer service, but unfortunately kept going down in all areas of quality. Going to start with a positive since I encourage people to try things themselves. Standards are on an individual basis when it comes to food and maybe what doesn't work for me will for you. The mariscos are great! Tostadas are always loaded with fresh seafood and the coctel is often tasty. Drinks are good even though for some reason often different even though it's the same order(chavelas, agua mineral preparada, etc). I'm assuming its the touch of the different waiter/waitress. Service is often nice as well. The ambience is WAAAAAAAY to loud when dining in, which unfortunately is the way to go for the best experience. They do have carry out and drive through which is a hit and miss since the order is often wrong (not always) but 7/10 it is. And I'm not talking about large orders I'm talking 1-2 people servings. I went for dine in taco Tuesday. This was a funny one and just had to laugh it off and go with it since I was in a hurry and prefer to just say, I don't think I'll go back. I ordered 6 tacos and they had the teeniest slightest pinch of meat compared to the tortilla ratio. I brought it up to the waitress and her answer was "that's what you get for $1" lol smh. I said charge me more but actually give me more meat. Now the tacos here are the small tortilla. I took 1 bite and the meat was gone. (It's like a 3 bite taco) if the ratio would have been normal. My friend ordered an azada burrito. It ended up being all rice, literally a pinch of beans and a speck of meat. I get it, meat and produce are expensive but that was unacceptable. I'm not one of those people that like a nothing but meat loaded burrito or tacos. All I'm saying is a balance of what your paying for would be nice.....and fair. Can I recommend this place...not anymore. Tasty if u get them on a good day but VERY disappointing if you don't. And very disappointing has been the overall experience recently. read more

I would rate the chavelas 5 stars, they are so good ! I would rate the food 4 stars. But the service... 2 stars, at best. The girls are too busy on their phones checking their social media. I had to ask our waitress 4 times for some salsa and she never brought it ! I then asked another waitress and she kept forgetting as well until I had to ask her again and she finally remembered like 10 mins later, by that time I was already basically done with my food and had been waiting for a total of about 25 mins for salsa, ridiculous. I tried so hard to like this establishment! I had driven past it so many times. I always wanted to give it a try. My wife and I finally decided to give it a try. We weren't sure if they had a drive thru because there was no sign but that's fine. We'll stop and head inside. Once we entered, no one serviced us. It was chaos. People walking everywhere. I didn't even know where to go to order food. A female employee pointed at a table for us to sit but we told her we wanted food to-go. She then rudely pointed at the menus. I walked to the direction in which she pointed only to find nothing. After a minute of searching around, I finally found a menu without the direct help of an employee and we both decided to go for a common item we enjoy. We both ordered a super burrito and sat down as we waited. For some reason, the female employee spoke to us in Spanish. I began speaking English but she continued in Spanish. I assumed that she only spoke Spanish so I spoke Spanish. Then she spoke perfect English to another customer. When our burritos were finally ready she handed them to me with a disgusted look on her face. It was definitely one of the worst restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. But we still had high hopes for the food. We got to our lunch destination and began chowing on our burritos. First impression of the burrito was obviously the small size of a so-called super burrito. My first bite was a huge bite of nothing but tortilla. The second was tortilla and rice. My third bite was rice and tortilla again. I couldn't believe that by 80% through my burrito, I had mostly tasted tortilla, rice, and beans. There was barely any meat and there was absolutely not one trace of cheese or cream. Both our super burritos were missing cheese and cream. At least mine had a tiny bit of meat. My wife's super burrito had a few pieces of meat and mostly beans. It seems they did not approve of us from the moment we walked in and purposely sabotaged our food. Well, there's no way I will take this personally so I'll simply move on and warn others about this place. It breaks my heart to rate a local business so low. If you don't believe me, waste your money and find out for yourself. Hopefully, they will change their ways and grow in becoming a "better" restaurant. read more
