Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Fort Bragg. The chips and salsa are fantastic, the salsa actually has a little bite to it rather than the bland, no heat salsas most often found. Do yourself a favor and make sure you order the guacamole. Other than adding a bit of salt once it arrives at the table it it perfection and a huge serving. I usually order the the chile relleno and Enchilada combo with an ala carte crunchy taco, my husband usually gets the wet burrito with chile verde. Fast, casual and great food. read more

We ate here during our visit to FB. The Asada nachos were very good. Lots of meat!! I was really looking forward to the fish tacos. They were just "ehh". Not very flavorful. The food was presented very nicely. It did not take long to come out, in the middle of lunch rush. there's usually only one bartender so if you slam him with 20 Margaritas it might take a moment for that to come out. I've enjoyed Los Gallitos in the past - great value and good food. Just tried their new location (on Franklin) for lunch today. Same good food, same good value, but four times as much seating. Only real issue is that they are very busy, and it looks like they are trying to hire some more help. Service can be slow. Maybe the crowds will go down a bit as the new opening winds down and they increase their staff, but if you're not in a hurry, it's definitely a nicer location than their previous one. read more

We just went to their new location tonight.. and turns out it was their first night in the new place! There was not an empty seat in the house and a line out the door. We even noticed some of the other customers getting rude and demanding of the waitresses, which is so frustrating to witness! It was obvious that they were doing their best and working very hard! It did take a while For us to get our food, but we weren't in any hurry so we just enjoyed the ambiance and relaxed. Food was great and full of flavor and generous portions. Only giving a 4 star because they did not accept credit cards this time. Cash only, and we had to run across the street to an atm. Best Mexican food on the Mendocino Coast, hands down. I dream about the chicken wet burrito. It is heaven wrapped up. Their chips and salsa could please the unpleasable and calm the ragingest of storms. The fish tacos will leave you wet in the panties, and their horchata will make you wish you were Mexican. I've eaten there before with no problems so I decided to eat there tonight. I don't have a car so I walked the mile there. I ordered a chicken burrito, a chilli relenos and a flan. When I got home I found no meat in the burrito and no chilli relenos. I called and they told me to come back. I told them I would be there in a few minutes. NO APPOLOGY GIVEN. When I got there I was surprised to find that it wasn't waiting for me. Do phone in orders have to wait for their orders or are they ready when they get there? Do they wait on making a phone in order till the customer arrives to pick up their food? I guess so if my experience is normal. When I got there; STILL NO APPOLOGY!!!!! I told them what the order was and 15 minutes later they handed me my order. AND STILL NO APPOLOGY. When I got home it was wrong again. I will never eat there again. read more

We're vegetarian so I appreciate the fact they offer options and the foods not bad, it's just not great. The beans are runny so everything is runny, the tacos, the nachos. Had to use a fork to eat. The cold tortilla chips are oily too and, if it bothers you, they're handled by the bare handful into baskets stacked on top of each other. It's a small town from a different time. Don't miss this spot if you desire authentic fresh prepared Mexican food. The digs are small, but are soon moving 1 block east and 1 1/2 block north (s franklin st) to accomodate larger groups. I persoanally applaud this effort. The food all seems to be fresh cooked daily. I've tried most and compared to other restaurants I can tell the rellanos are fresh, and the meats not re-heated. The "chips" and salsas seem fresh made and not brought in. We make this restaurant a regular stop on our visits to Ft Bragg. read more

It's my last day of vacation and I wanted something super yummy to eat at the beach. I got steak nachos and a Sprite to go and it was about $12. Not bad. The chips are literally the best tortilla chips I've ever had. But, as a whole, these nachos are awful :(. The steak literally has ZERO seasoning on it - not even salt. Came here on a Sunday night an hour before closing. The (very beautiful) girl working said the wait for take out was an hour; we left without food :( We came back Monday evening around 530 and had a better result. The place wasn't as crowded and it seemed like most of the tourists were gone (except us). You seat yourself and the server will bring you your menu, etc. Both servers were super nice. I ordered a carne asada burrito without lettuce. The meat was cut thin and had good flavor. Overall my burrito was good; too big for my preference but most don't complain about a lot of food. Now, what I really enjoyed was the chips and salsa. So yummy. The chips were thick and the salsa wasn't too spicy. I would've liked a tad more heat but it was super good. The server never offered us a beverage which is weird. I went to the car and got water bottles. It won't stop me from coming back. Food was good. read more

Ordered take out as I have several times recently: two pork burritos, one with no beans, a side of guacamole and 8oz of salsa. Doesn't seem too complicated. Last time I ordered this I returned home to find that the burritos had steak instead of pork so I checked the label this time. After waiting a while over the projected time for pickup, found that sure enough they were steak. Asked for pork and they said it would take a few minutes but waited 20. Finally got the order and it had no guacamole... got some on request but never received the 8oz salsa. Returned home to find both burritos had beans. My goodness this place was amazing! My husband and I are visiting Fort Bragg for the first time and decided to check this place out based on the yelp reviews. I'm so glad we did! We really enjoy mexican food, and this place was by far the best we've ever had. We came at just the right time, as it got even busier after we were seated. It's a small place, but huge servings! We've lived in FB for many years and we do NOT know the owners. I'm saying that because my review is so stellar. They opened their new restaurant next to the Post Office and when I went to the new place today, 3 days later, there was a line out the door and they were serving more than 3x the number of people they served in their old location. The people are fantastic and helpful and happy to have you in the restaurant. The food is far and away the best Mexican food in Fort Bragg and there are quite a few, especially considering how small our town it. In some ways, I want to make a bad review so that I don't have to wait so long. I think you can figure it all out. Just went back for the first time since they moved to Franklin and Alder. LG was always my favorite Mexican food in town, but now I think it's even better than before. Had a combination plate and even the salad was really good. Would definitely recommend the sopes too. Housemade margaritas are delicious, can't wait to come back and sit at the bar. read more

To her credit, the waitress did ask if I wanted a wet burrito when I ordered a burrito. I don't know, the words "wet burrito" fall flat for me. Still, had she said, "I recommend the wet burrito," I might've gone for it, and now that I've looked at the pics, I can say that was the choice to make. The plain burrito rolled up in a barely warm and OK, but not great flour tortilla, was meh. Free chips and salsa were very good. Coke hecho en Mexico is a available. Great over ice. If I'd read the review that mentioned the sad burrito and little slice of orange beforehand I'd have had a much better meal with anything else on the menu. Waitress was prompt, accurate, friendly. Cheap and flavorful Mexican fare. The Wet Burrito here is a great pick for the hungry, its a huge meal and the sauce is very good. Also, the Fish Tostada and the Chili Relleno are both very solid. Los Gallitos is fresh, and not ostentatious, everything points to this being a great Mexican comfort food restaurant worthy of visiting over and over. Combination plates are huge and the salad that comes with them is very good, a mix of good lettuces and a decent dressing. They make Horchata from scratch, but its only available on weekends. The only drawback is that the salsa is not my favorite style. I'm bringing in my own bottle of salsa these days. The staff is very warm and very pleasant. Other things that are standout are the hard shell tacos, and tortas. read more
