If i could give this place any lower rating i would. I am full mexican but have light features, blue eyes and dont speak spanish. I have known my whole life what it feels like to be discriminated by my own people but not my wife or kids. We came here on vacation from out of town cause we love fort bragg, we had decided on this restaurant for dinner that night and wish we wouldve completely avoided it. We sat and waited to be seated (no offense ot anyone of any color or race) and we started to notice we were being over looked for white families. My kid asked whats going on and i said we're probably gunna leave if we get overlooked one more time and sure enough we did. I told my daughter this is what happens when people forget where they came from and are money hungry cause they look at our color and automatically think "they dont have money like the other people who are here". She got teary eyed and i hugged her. The hostess seen us getting up and said "your table is ready". My wife speaks ghetto and propper spanish and spanish is her first language, she is also a certified interpreter and she has never discriminated by her own people and i told im used to it so it doesnt bother me but she was visually upset. We got our food and we couldve went to to taco bell and would've had a more authentic feel. We ordered a chicken burrito for one of my kids and it was canned chicke like from costco or sams club. The chile verde i ordered looked canned as well. I could be wrong every cook is different but thats exactly what it looked and tasted like. I went and sat at the bar to get a drink while we waited at the beginning and i got my beer fairly fast, my wife did the same thing but opted for a margarita and the bartender didnt acknowledge her until she said something cause he was too busy talking to one of his coworkers like it was a break. Im all for small business and hole in the wall places but this place was extremely disappointing but most of all upsetting due to my family feeling discriminated by there own people. We loved the Quesatacos (2 tortillas with grilled cheese between them and marinated barbacoa in the main taco). So good. A side of the marinade, so you could dip it 'au jus' style! We also loved the horchata cocktail with cognac. I think it was called the Henny Horchata. I wasn't as impressed with the wet burrito. I found it a bit bland, but there was a ton of chicken meat in it, so good value for the money if you're extremely hungry. The flan was delicious, but seemed pretty normal, so comfort food. The food at this place is excellent. Eric was a fantastic host and we just went with his recommendations and boy! We ate a lot. The fish tacos, filet of fish ( red snapper), the tacos , the enchiladas - chicken were fantastic. For vegetarians - everything can be had with onions and peppers and mushrooms ( all grilled) . Updated review. Labor Day weekend. Place is packed. Only 10 tables. No AC. 30 minute wait to get in, 45 min wait for food ( that was excellent) the problem is the amount of take out -- this is a small place. Kitchen is very small and the issue is the amount of take out being prepared - seems to me they could dedicate ( on weekends) a take out staff in the kitchen and keep separate from the in house diners. The wait is way too long. I'd want to serve the customers who are seated, first. Anyway, our server Eric, was very good and attentive. I am not sure why other reviewers complained about not getting extra chips/salsa-- we were asked numerous times if we wanted more. One thing Eric told me-- the phone kept ringing but no one answered-- he told me they were so busy they weren't answering the phone- they couldn't handle more orders. Seems to me a take out only section would generate lots of $ and keep the table service moving faster. Still a very good place for quality Mex. each dish made specifically for each customer. Pretty disappointed in my fellow yelpers today. Trusted you guys on some good Mexican food. Los Gallitos is still open during the end of COVID-19, but no indoor dining is allowed and masks are required. We ordered several plates to-go. The food overall is very bland, and it appears they boil the chicken and rely on the enchilada sauce to make the flavors. Amazing atmosphere, great service and wonderful Mexican Cuisine I have to say it's the best dad in the town of Fort Bragg if you want some authentic Mexican food. Literally always makes me sick every time I come here. I think they must use old grease? Everyone loves this restaurant but I'm sure that everyone also experiences indigestion after eating here. Would give them a two star, because the atmosphere is hospitable and the food looks appealing, but I want to offset the amount of good reviews this place and call it out for what it is. I'm not sure why anyone would give more than 2 stars to this place. The service is piss poor at best and the the food is mid. We walked in, no one greeted us, we waited a wile for a table. Once seated we waited 10 minutes before menus were thrown on our table by a server who didn't speak to us. Finally we flagged someone down for water and chips. The chips are great but the salsa was just tomato water. When I asked about the specials, the server literally pointed to the signage across the restaurant and to me to go read them. Los Gallitos once was good. I took my wife there for her birthday and had the worst burrito I've had in years. You are better off getting burritos from a gas station. My sister and I stopped by here last weekend while we were in town visiting our mom. Jesse came by with complimentary chips & red salsa which were both fresh and delicious. I got a Boont Amber Ale $6, and my sister got an IPA $6. We both decided to also order a fish taco $3.99, which were yummy. Jesse was very nice at first until we asked him to refill our chips since he was only giving us like 5 at a time, and we still had a lot of salsa. At one point I stopped another male server, and he was nice enough to give us an entire basket full of chips. My sister decided to order some Green Salsa Verde as well as some more chips TOGO Their Salsa Verde has a wonderful flavor, but a bit spicier then the red. I was not impressed. The food lacked flavor and spice. I had the Milanese steak and my husband had the enchiladas with two pork tacos and everything was missing seasoning. Everything tasted so bland! The salsa had no heat or flavor. I guess I'm spoiled when it comes to eating authentic Mexican food living in San Diego and close to the border. I definitely would not call this a Mexican restaurant. I guess when it's late and this is the only restaurant open late you really don't have much of a choice. I definitely would not recommend it or would go back. I gave it three stars to be nice. I was surprised that the complimentary chips and salsa was a rather small serving however the chips were warm and crispy. The salsa was average. My husband had a beef enchilada and beef taco combo which he said was good. I asked for a side of the red enchilada gravy to dip the quesadilla bites in and it was graciously provided, unfortunately it didn't have much heartiness or flavor. Glad we gave it a try. I ordered cheese enchiladas. Worst ever. Cheese was not melted all the way. No enchilada sauce other than what tortillas was cooked with. I asked for a side of enchilada sauce. I got it cold. I ordered it to mask the unmelted cheese. I gave up and took it to go. I'll melt the cheese and warm my sauce in my camping trailer. Service was good. First I would like to say that our waiter was amazing. He was attentive and so nice. The food here is okay. Nothing to write home about. We ordered the nachos and taquitos, shrimp ceviche tostada, and two pork tacos. The chips and salsa they provided was minimal. I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that only gives you a handful of chips then charges for more. The salsa was watery and lacked any kind of kick. The taquitos were good until you run out of the guacamole they out on top then you notice the meat is really dry. The shrimp ceviche was made with salad shrimp and lacked flavor. The pork tacos were watery so we pulled them out of the tortillas and added it to the nachos after letting them drop off some of the liquid. The nachos were good. You had to search for the cheese but considering everything else they were okay. The star of the show was the tortilla chips. They were fresh and crispy. Too bad we only were given a few and not willing to pay for more. I think that's what made the nachos so good. read more
