Food was okay. I have yet to find a good mexican restaurant on island, but Los Garcias is fine for an occasional munchie. I had a burrito and they loaded it with cheese and sour cream, which I loved! The steak was very tasty. I actually liked the beans and rice, but I'm also not very picky. Chips and salsa were also pretty yummy. Another downside besides the lack of food quality was the loudness. I've lived in Kailua for 15 years and only recently tried this place for the first time. I had a great experience. Food portions were very reasonable and delicious. I loved the atmosphere and the background music except they didn't have the AC on when I went that evening. Waitresses were always checking in on us and making sure we had everything we needed. I went home very full that's for sure. As long as you're willing to find street parking around Kailua (which there is ample of) and walk a little bit to the restaurant, you'll be all good. This was probably the worst Mexican joint I have ever been to. Food was cold, order was wrong, it didn't taste good, told us we could go to the gas station next door and get alcohol to go into a virgin margarita. It was overpriced, didn't come with sides, the service was slow and the tables were dirty. The food was quite good and they're currently a BYOB establishment. Our server was super friendly and accommodating. We didn't have to ask and he kindly brought water out for the pup. The patio has nice foliage that makes you forget you're right off the street and the dim lighting out there creates a sort of romantic atmosphere. Will certainly return! This restaurant has been through some management changes in the past few years. When I first ate there the food and service were excellent. Then the management changed and nothing was the same, so I didn't go back for a while. Now it's as good as ever! I haven't had anything there I didn't like. Great magaritas. Get the fiesta...its a carafe of margarita..cheaper than buying 2 and you get more. Like most Mexican restaurants they provide chips and salsa. Their chips are usually warm and their salsa is good. Place is kinda run down but food is good. read more

I used to live in Hawaii, and this was my favorite mexican restaurant on the island. We always had the same waitress, Ileana, who would see me and ask if I wanted my usual...Pescado Fresca. The only thing I'd switch up was I'd have either a corona or a margarita. After moving to the bay area, I have found only one mexican restaurant that comes close. Regardless of whether people want "authentic" mexican food (which I have, my auntie is full Mexican), or they just want what they like, I feel that is place is one that I love. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. I don't normally write reviews but I had to. Ordered out from here last night. Wondering if all of these positive reviews are actuallly coming out of the same restaurant because it was awful. We ordered through Bitesquad online. The food came in a Styrofoam box which I expected, but it was ice cold and VERY bland. The rice literally tasted just like uncle Ben's ready rice, The guacamole tasted like they just mashed up avocados and called it a day. There was also a few slivers of lettuce with a couple diced tomatoes, and one piece of corn on the side... not sure what it was supposed to be? The refried beans were flavorless and they added way too much in my burrito. We also ordered beef taquitos and the meat was literally black and dried out. Was so hungry and was craving mexican food, so I ate most of it but just couldn't finish it. On top of it all, it was so overpriced..Very disappointed. read more

Overall, not a bad experience. I had the combination plate with rice and beans. All of the meats were tasty and the portions were average size and price. Not the best Mexican on the island, but it's a decent option, especially if you're on the Windward side. Good friendly service, convenient location in Kailua. Los Garcias is not what it used to be. I recently ate there because an out of town guest wanted to check it out. It is street parking or parking in a sketchy back lot behind the gas station with odd folks creeping around in it. Food was just ok. AMAZING!! I have gone here numerous times and keep coming back with family and friends who also love it! I usually get the verde enchiladas which comes with Rice and Beans...I devoured the enchilada and the beans were a huge plus!!! Soo good. The next time I went I got a chicken burrito which was so delicious! My one aunt ordered the ceviche and has ordered it every time we go now, along with the verde enchiladas. She loved it! My other aunt ordered the stuffed shrimp both times she went. I quote her "These are awesome." My uncle got a combo mix of three things, enchilada chorizo, burrito and I believe a tamale. He loves his food VERY spicy so we told the waitress that so the cook added a little spice to it. He ate everything and loved it a well, the enchilada chorizo was his favorite! They also have AMAZING margaritas! We ordered the Mango Margaritas-- so good! - The fried cheesecake is AMAZING!! I'm usually to full for dessert but end up ordering one to go. It's also great to come in on Sunday mornings/afternoons because they have the games playing! I have been going to Los Garcias for years. It's pretty much the only place to get ceviche in Kailua. Sometimes the ceviche is absolutely awesome and other times it is just good, but I always enjoy it (they always give me extra cilantro, tomatoes and limes like I ask for). This is just an ok Mexican restaurant on a good day. Today was not a good day. They sat us right away and brought out chips and salsa fairly quickly, so far so good. But no water and no one to take our drink order. Nothing. Finally after 10 minutes, a waitress took our drink order. After 5 more minures, she came back with more chips, but still no water/no drinks The drinks eventually showed up. Then she took our dinner order. Food was ready in another15 minutes, not bad. Most of the food tasted ok. But one of the orders was wrong. Waitress didn't check on us for quite awhile. We had to call her over from across the room to tell her about the problem. She was polite and took the plate away to have it remade. It was 20 minutes later and still nothing. It was a VERY simple order. We called her over again so she went to check on it. Finally she brings out the correct order. She was nice, but no offer to do anything more. No offer to comp the one problem meal, no free dessert, nothing. She brought us the check and there was no discount. I understand mistakes happen sometimes. How you handle a mistake is very important and will leave the customer feeling good, if you do it right. If you do it wrong, the customer probably won't come back. read more

This place is HORRIBLE! Prices are VERY STEEP, service is horrendous, and food is barely OK. We've been going here for a while and always leave feeling sick. Shame on us for repeat visits, but when you're addicted to Mexican food like us, we're willing to go and pretend. This morning we went for breakfast: Restaurant was about half full. One waitress (the always rude, medically enhanced one) was left to serve the entire floor alone. The owner's daughter just sat and texted on her phone-she follows by example, when her Mom is there, she just sits and scowls at all the customers. Food took forever, order was wrong. We decided to drink (as we always do at this place to numb the pain of the experience). Two breakfasts and two drinks a piece left us a $70 bill. We didn't want to tip, but we knew we'd get cut up if we tried leaving without. The owner seriously does not care and this place will never change. It's surprising that it's still around.
