Imagine this scenario on your wedding day that you paid your down payment 11 months in advance. We show up to our reception with guests waiting to even enter the reception room. Neither of the special event coordinators were there to greet us. Disorganized and chaos. We were told we would be served first as the bride and groom. We pre-ordered a keg and multiple bottles of wine plus a set bar amount. The bartender tells us we couldn't have ordered a keg because they don't do that. I had to go out to the car to get all my paperwork to show them what we pre-ordered with the owner/so-called event coordinator. I spent the first 15 minutes arguing about our alcohol order. In the meantime, no food is served. My sister and I had to find the manager that told us he had only been manager 3 weeks and didn't know what was going on. We find out from another employee that a party of 19 was being served before our reception of 110 people. We finally get servers to give out chips and salsa. When we finally get our food, the food is cold and the food is served an hour late due to other people parties and one of the special event coordinators shows up to our room after an hour to apologize saying she was at another wedding on site and didn't know about our reception!! My vegetarian guests, including MY daughter who was in the wedding party, didn't get their food for almost an hour and a half after the buffet line actually started. We had no one serving our guests for the first 20 minutes. They prioritized the outside wedding over our reception. Toward the end of the reception, the manager comes and says he has to talk to the owner, Vicki, which is who we had given all of our requests to, and they would bill us later instead of the end of the night. Two months later, Vicki, the owner/special events coordinator sends me an email apologizing and provides us the invoice which is still inadequate considering I spent the entire reception trying to get my own guests fed, tracking down people in charge and being upset on my wedding night. A bartender from the main restaurant part brought me a tequila shot to calm me down. That was insulting and I told her a tequila shot wasn't going to fix all their screw ups on our special day or get my daughter fed. It was completely disorganized and terrible wedding reception. I'm still mad two months later. Being emailed TWO MONTHS later with an apology and invoice is insulting. We will pay our invoice because we are not free-loaders but I will NEVER give a word of kindness to Vicki the owner/so-called event coordinator for ruining my wedding reception. I don't recommend booking any large special events at this restaurant. BEWARE! read more

Stockyard Mexican restaurant. Everything I tried was hands down delicious! I had the Carne Asada, with avocado, rice and beans!! The meat was cooked to perfection with a flavorful taste and the beans were to die for!! Tried the stuffed Avocado. I loved it!! We had a party of 12 and everyone at the table loved their food. The waiter Miguel was consistent with filing up our drinks, chips and was very nice. The place is a bit pricey, but you get your money's worth with the location and the wonderful taste of the food! Was staying in TX on a business trip, and this is the best Mexican restaurant I've ever had. The staff was friendly, and the owners--Vicki and Johnny--are one of the nicest people I've met. They both went above and beyond for their guests and it shows. Los Vaqueros was so good, I went back three times during my visit! I had the stuffed jalapeños, Johnny Bowl, enchiladas, and the fajitas--all were amazing! The guacamole was the freshest, creamiest, and most flavorful guac I've ever had! Man that 48oz Sangria tower is delicious...its so fruity it doesn't taste alcoholic at all, which can be a big problem if you haven't eaten anything. My friends ordered a variety of dishes in this old Stockyards standby, but I wasn't in the mood for more heavy Mexican food (after the late night of Mexican bar/restaurant hopping the night before), so I went with the carne asada. The dish came out with slices of avocado, tomatoes, roasted onions, rice, and beans. The meat was remarkably succulent and even a bit medium rare, which is impressive considering that the piece was relatively thin. The seasoning was great, and the texture wasn't bad...but don't expect high-end steak here. I only had the steak, avocado and tomatoes, but I did nibble a bit on the rice and beans, which were flavorful but unmemorable. I had been worried that the size of this restaurant would hamper the dishes that they make, but overall it's a decent Mexican restaurant. Is it my favorite? Eat at your own Risk the Icing on the cake was as our group was leaving the banquet hall for a local High school dance team one of the staff dropped a flaming sterno canister on one of the high school girls and caught her on fire. I've been here once for dinner and numerous times for lunch for office birthdays. It's a nice place for that and service is usually quick. The interior is special. Old building with great western themed decor perfect for a Stockyards location. The staff is usually friendly although I'm not quite fond of management after calling to inquire about catering service for our Christmas party one year. Aside from that, I find the food very mediocre. I've tried many things on the menu and honestly do not have a favorite. And I love Mexican/Tex Mex food as much, if not equally, as I do my Asian food. Apps: Sampled a bit of everything. Nacho chips need a touch of salt, but are otherwise bland unless eaten with the beef/chicken/cheese. Potato skins are potato skins, and the chicken flautas were a bit dry. Main Course: Fajitas! More appetizing to the eye than actually tasty. Spanish rice and chicken were dry and bland! food was not worth the prize, very plain or over cheesy. everything on the menu is pretty much the same thing just reworded. it was depressing tex-mex and extremely overpriced. service was below average as well. we had to keep asking our waitress for water refills as she could not be bothered to come to that conclusion herself. we had a party over 8 so tip was required. which is more than reasonable as ive worked in restaurants and i get it. but its clear she knew she would be getting a tip whether her service was good or not. i would avoid this place. i dont know if she was overwhelmed and not being helped by other staff or management as i didnt see many workers on the floor. all i saw were blank staring bus boys and our waitress. read more

Pretty decent Mexican fare. We came for a birthday party and enjoyed it. We have fajita nachos and a couple of margaritas. The nachos were good. Meat was tender and plenty of topping. Good margaritas as well. The one downfall was the chips were hard as a rock. I seriously thought I may chip a tooth. Salsa was ok, but I prefer fire roasted to red. Just a personal preference. Good ambiance in the stockyard area. Be warned, there are some fairly steep stairs getting inside from the parking area. I'm not sure if there is another way in, so be warned if that affects you. There is a very long ramp to get inside as well, but it is pretty steep as well. read more

Q.U.E.S.O. Get the queso!! Awesome friendly, family atmosphere where everybody is welcome. The hosts and server were so kind and the manager even came up to our table to say hi! Besides the queso, the simple, kid-friendly standard Mexican fare like the bean and cheese burrito and the quesadilla are perfect for the kids. For the adults try a seafood dish or the steak. Well I've lived in Texas most of my life and love Mexican food. Moved to Colorado few years ago and not the best Mexican food. Was so excited to get back to amazing Mexican food. Oh this place looked cool inside. Got Kaden as a server very nice and keep the service coming. Let me tell you this food was horrible. Started w the queso. No favor and fn cold. Got the large fAjitas and asked beef cooked med rare and told server wont eat if cooked above requested temp. Well guess what came out well done. Sent back for proper temp. The meat was not cooked there as it tasted like a fajita pack you would get at the store. But worse!!!! Also got shrimp. No flavor and tasted fishy. Rt now praying I don't get food poisoning. Yes it was that bad. Rice and beans were as cold as you just took outta the fridge. We felt like this place didn't care. Mind you there was only 5 tables full at the time. Margaritas were ok. Recently booked a room for a party. The manager/event coordinator lacks customer service and approached me in a rude and condescending manner as soon as I arrived. As a large family, we often use this restaurant for private parties and have never had an issue until that day. The waiters saw how awful the event coordinator was and I could see their embarrassment when they apologized for it. The food is mediocre, but we go knowing that it's never been that great. Basically we use it as a gathering place since they accommodate large parties. I spent $1000 on this private party and hundreds more on alcohol was purchased by my group. I was informed I had to pay 10cents for the use of each cake plate and $5 for a desert table because I brought in some fruit. (I was not informed I couldn't and have not had issues with past parties) She was so worried about $9 freaking dollars that she was rude and unprofessional. The brisket taco were very flavorful and the pico they served to go on them had a lot of jalapeños in it, so it was spicy as well, but man was it good. This spot came highly recommended by someone I trust. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the great review by a friend of mine. Great atmosphere. Actually, their atmosphere is absolutely top notch. Old building that has been retrofitted to a modern restaurant. Stark cement columns meet brick against old windows meets trendy old iron work made new, if that makes any sense. The atmosphere is so cool that I would give them a 4 star, almost a 5 for atmosphere alone. What about the food? Their chips and salsa were good. The service was normal, not great, but ok. My wife ordered one cheese enchilada with rice and beans, her favorite meal. The cheese enchilada was simply ok. It had a ton of raw onion in it. A ton. The rice was rather bland but had a serious flaw. It had so much onion, I mean big chunks of almost raw onion, that we finally called it "Onion rice." I've never seen anything quite like it. I've not seen that much onion in any dish. Onion everything. The cup of cheese dip in the tostada cup was tasteless cheese. I ordered their red Chile pasole soup, a special of the day they are promoting. I love a good red Chile pasole soup. It is basically a spicy red pepper dish with hominy and cilantro and all sorts of yummy goodies in there. Well, that is what I've always had before with red Chile pasole soup in other restaurants. This was red water with boiled hominy. No real cilantro, meat, or spices. Didn't taste any red chiles. No real flavor to be honest. I actually had trouble finishing it. Super disappointing. The food, to be honest, was poor enough we would give the food a two star. Atmosphere great, service ok, poor food. I'll compromise on a 3, but it wasn't for the food. We decided we have no desire to go back. You might could get a margarita and enjoy their salsa and the atmosphere, that could be a proper reason to visit. read more

Firsts time ever at this restaurant, and I'd have to say it was the worse yet! I would never go back! I go to the stockyards a lot and have been wanting to try it! Ordered chicken burritos & they brought me out beef. T the time i could hunt my waitress down after disappearing for 20 minutes. They replace it with chicken. Just had dinner at Los Vaqueros right outside the Stock Yards. Did the "Outside dinning". Came here with my kids we enjoyed it all. They had 2 gentlemen playing and singing country songs. Food was delicious. I had the carne asada my daughter had the Flautas and my son had a burrito bowl. Everything was really good. The service started off good then went downhill quickly. After getting our food we only saw our server twice, once to bring us our check and to return our receipt for signature. Their salsa is ho humm- just like salsa at a million other Mexican restaurants. I had the tamale pie. This is nothing more than three tamales on top of your rice with chili con-carne sauce, tortillas strips and cheese. The meat to masa ratio was nice for the tamales.
