Food here is outstanding and the beer selection is great (though many times they are out of certain beers on their menu which is disappointing). The main reason they're only getting 3 stars is because the service is pretty bad. The servers, bar tenders, and even the guy who answers the phone for delivery act as though you're inconvenient them. Service is also incredibly slow so don't go there or order for delivery unless you have hours to kill. Curious as to why since they have never been crazy busy when I've gone in and they make pizza and sandwiches! Pretty much everything I've had has been great. (This Anderson Road location is Next to the nicest Safeway in the DC area -- I know that's not saying much -- but a good one. This is a far easier location to drive to than the Mosaic location which has real parking problems). Tried the Chicken Corn Chowder tonight -- on a cold and rainy night. I used to like going to Lost Dog and we have had good experiences in the past with the Arlington and Merrifield locations but have to say thumbs down to the Mclean one. We have been 2x here and both times service was slow and could of been better. It took a few mins for someone to actually acknowledge us standing around waiting for a table. Today was really bad as I had to have to ask 3 times for a straw for our drinks and it took a while to get silverware . We had our toddler with us and the server never asked how were things until it was about time with our check. We needed to get going and I had to ask the bartender to process our check because it was taking a long time to just get our check taken care of as well. Maybe it was just our waiter or they had their B or C team there but the food was good. Service was very sub par today but food was good. I am not sure I will even try this place again unless we are around merrifield. read more

Tonight (party of 2) we waited at least 10 minutes to get drink orders taken and it was not busy! Staff don't seem to care about food or pleasing customers. Food was mediocre at best. This place has delicious food when it comes to their sandwiches and pizza! Their sandwich menu is overwhelming and I have never gone wrong with my picks so far. I will say that their service is slacking a bit. I have had friends get the wrong order or be missing something a couple of times, and they all just seem like they are new...and don't know what is going on. Food is quite tasty here. Favorites are the chicken philly, ANY pizza & the corn chowder in the winter -- it's very hearty with large chunks of meat. It's even better after being in the fridge & reheated. I don't drink beer, but they have so many interesting flavored that I may just try one. I have since adopted a dog from LDCR, so I felt obligated to go back to the café to give the food another try. I also live even closer to this locale than I used to. The sandwiches have definitely gotten better, with the exception of the Redskin (they are strangely stingy on the meat). Now that tomatoes bother my stomach, I appreciate the fact that they have several white pizzas. I still stand by my previous statement that you are better off eating at the restaurant. I really like this place and frequent it about once a month. Good food and a variety - can get a sandwich, pizza, or pastas. Pasta comes with garlic bread and a salad. Well worth it! Cute place next to Safeway - really cool inside. They let dogs sit with you at the tables outside too! read more

Went here for first time tonight. Waffles fries were disappointing but the pizza (spinach feta pie) was pretty tasty - no complaints from me but my husband thought it was a little too floppy and undercooked. I was pleasantly surprised by the service. Everyone was very friendly and very helpful. My milkshake was decent but there was a lot of air - weird, but it was oddly lightweight and thin - and for $5 I was left wanting more! We usually make pizza at home so this was a nice treat, but for the prices that's what it'll remain: a nice treat. Good place to go with a few friends and kids for a casual night out! read more

Great decor makes this a fun place just to visit. The walls are decorated with such cool dog paintings. Beer list is excellent, both on tap and bottled. There were so many sandwiches on the menu I wanted to try, but I stuck with a salad that was quite good - romaine lettuce, no iceberg to be found. The feta vinaigrette was good, and different, maybe a little salty when added to the feta already on the salad. I'd go back to try one of those sandwiches! read more

I am a fan of Lost Dog as I am a fan of beers. They have a great selection of microbrews ON TAP, and also a fairly extensive list of by the bottle beers. The food portions are GARGANTUAN. Please do not think you are coming here for a light lunch, as you will feel weighed down if you try and eat everything on their plates. I want to give this five stars but due to the HUGE portion sizes and a staff that once specifically told me not to order pasta I can not. read more

Terrible service! We came during the lunch rush and were seated immediately. Our server was slow to take our drink and food orders. When we realized we did not have time to eat, we asked for our food to be wrapped up to go. After delivering our food we had to wait for 5 minutes for the server to come back so we could ask for the check--which one would assume would come with the to go food. He brought one check for 7 people who were obviously paying separately. We then had to track him down to get the check split. Once split, he immediately left and did not take our payment.s I carried the stack of bill folders to the wait station so he would get them. Very disappointed in this level of service at a Lost Dog! Lost Dog is great. The McLean location, however, is awful. The service is rarely anything more than mediocre at best. Waiting 20 minutes for a beer without any explanation when there are 3 tables and the bar is only half full is ridiculous. Our appetizer never came out and that was acknowledged by our server when he brought our sandwiches to us and let us know that he was going to find out what had happened. He showed up again when we flagged him down for our check and a to go box. The guy was obviously new and we tried to be patient, but I find it inexcusable that the only person helping this struggling guy out was the bartender. We never saw a manager. When a server is having a difficult time and the bartender is delivering every drink, the manager should be backing his staff up. When I called to let them know that my experience was pretty bad, the manager was quick to place blame and no accountability was taken. He offered a gift certificate for half of our total bill after asking and didn't apologize. I am disgusted by how unprofessional the manager was. How will that server ever learn without support and leadership? I will take my gift certificate to the Westover or Dunn Loring location, but not back to McLean. read more

Order a couple of pizzas on a Friday night for delivery. After an hour I called back to have them say they were busy and the order would be there in 20 minutes. After another 40 minutes, I called back and spoke to the manager who said that whoever received the order did not enter into the system and that the pizzas were on their way. The manager also said he would refund the order. The order was never refunded. This is sad as I like Lost Dog and there are so few good places in McLean to get a good beer. I understand that mistakes can be made but the lack of care is really disappointing. I will no longer recommend them. read more

The K9 sandwich is my fave. It is fresh and the place is clean. The deco is cute and they raise money to rescue puppies. They have an amazing beer selection with quick and friendly service. It is laid back and mellow. Definitely a local favorite for sure. Oh they deliver as well!!! read more

Great beer selection, although all beers are very expensive. Most sandwiches and pizzas are very good. My one complaint is that the last time I was there, I got the "Surf 'n Turf," a crab and roast beef sandwich. The menu said "back-fin crab meat," and it mostly definitely was not. What a pity! We had been to the Lost dog cafe in Arlington and had really enjoyed it. So we tried the McLean cafe that is closer to us. What a disappointment! It is a nice quiet shopping center, perfect for a lazy summer evening. Even with our laid back attitudes we have to said the customer service was atrocious. It seemed that everyone that works at the restaurant is a stone kid. No silver wear, and just one fork materialized! The rest were not ready! 20 minutes for the check and these are just the highlights. Management please improve the staff! The truth is the service is hit or miss- some days you get a great waiter and host/hostess, other days you wonder who the heck is doing the hiring! However, the Big Dog sandwich is a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y to die for, it is incredible. And the ONLY reason I keep coming back. I've seen several people mention the same thing about the attitude of people that work there. Last time I was there waiting on my to go order I watched the two guys working there dare each other to steal a cookie/brownie from right next to the cash register. The guy took the brownie and ate it right in front of me while the cashier was laughing about. Nice. Way to steal in front of customers! So again, if you want great sandwiches and a cool place to bring your dog- this is it. The menu has a lot of choice. The prices seem good. Good beer selection. We had pizza, a pita and a dip. The dip was only ok. The pita had fresh avocado and warm melted cheese, but was bland. It's more than I'd normally be willing to pay for lunch but only because the quality and service are so great. Also, the lost dog dip appetizer and boston cream pie cheesecake round out a great meal. My favorite thing is, on the sandwiches that have avocado, you actually get yummy fresh sliced avocado, not some slimy spread. Pros: The atmosphere is great, the staff are awesome (particularly the bartenders) and they have a huge selection of pizzas and sandwiches. When made well, the pizzas are Amazing. Great selection of flavors, and fabulous mixture of flavors. A year ago, I would have given this place 5+ stars. But.... Cons: They've started skimping on pizza toppings, the orders are often sort-of right, but not completely, the fries are often soggy. Perhaps more annoyingly, the orders are inconsistent-- one night I'll be really happy, another it will be really disappointing. This is very minor, but I often ask for light cheese and other ingredients (which saves them money), but have been charged for asking for a small side of marinara. Overall, I think the pizzas are amazing when made correctly (to be fair, I always have at least one change, but you've probably guessed by now that I'm a PITA customer). Personally, I think the sandwiches are overpriced. The pasta dishes are a great value. read more
