Date of Visit: 07/27/2026 After visiting the Folsom area we happened upon this gem! I had not visited a Mongolian restaurant in a long time and took a chance having dinner with my family here and boy was it the right choice! Upon walking in, the decor is a bit older, but is is clean and neatly presented. The staff was very friendly and seated us right away. There was a good amount of people in the restaurant so the line to get your food was a bit long, but it moved swiftly and fast. The food bar was well organized, stuffed with various meats (chicken, pork, lamb, beef) and vegetables of all sorts. When handing your bowl to the check to cook, they put on a little show while you wait for your food which makes the wait not seem as long and at the end it is cooked to perfection. Our waitress kept our glasses full with ice cold beverages. Soft drinks are free for refills, however if you get lemonade, it is not. There is a soft service ice-cream bar for dessert after you've eaten. Makes for a nice touch although we decided to get dessert elsewhere. The tab for all 5 of us was about $128. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for fresh food, with great customer service! read more

I haven't been here in a while and I was with my husband who last had Mongolian Grill about 10 years ago. He was excited I was a little hesitant because this is a very low key smaller Mongolian barbecue. We had a fabulous lunch the white staff make sure everything is kept tidy because it's such a small quarters that if you drop a little bit of food, it shows up quickly, but they are on it. They have most of the regular items and then extra items like two types of noodles, which I always appreciate it. Husband likes the fat ones so I like the thin ones. What really surprised me was that I have to get to the normal selection of proteins like pork, beef, chicken, and lamb and through the veggies selection area where they also have tofu and pineapple, and pass, they make your own sauce, they have CALAMARI and small SHRIMP on ice right before the cooking station! When you sit at the table, you get great service if you order sodas they're constantly refilled. The dinner service also comes with soup a bowl of steam right rice, some crunchy wonton strips and sweet-and-sour. I was also pleasantly surprised to find out that not only do they have Sriracha, but they also have traditional chili oil that you can order with your meal for flavoring. They still have their soft serve ice cream for afterwards with sprinkles and chocolate strawberry Hershey's syrup. Lunch is a few dollars cheaper than dinner. We went at 4 o'clock, so it was dinner our but dinner you can go and get as many refills as you want. The only caveat is if you do get a refill, you cannot take home leftovers. Which seems fair. Super low-key not fancy but a very, very decent Mongolian barbecue and I will be back! read more

Did a quick search to get an idea where to have lunch in an area I'm not familiar with. Saw this location and reviews seemed good. I would agree. Great value. Several sides are included-rice, egg drop soup and wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce. You also receive a vanilla soft serve cone as part of the meal cost. Restaurant and restrooms clean. For just $20, I could take my share in AYCE for dinner, and I had my fair share. There are many options for proteins, with numerous toppings and sauces to choose for cooking. I made my food, but I definitely did not have enough sauce so the man who cooks the food helped me and added more. All the meats, vegetables and noodles were super fresh. We've had our eye on Chang's for a while, but after another great suggestion from a colleague we decided that we would finally stop by. We walk in and the staff is already super nice, immediately asking if it was our first time there and explaining how things worked. It's your typical Mongolian BBQ restaurant, lots of meat options (chicken, beef, pork, lamb) with plenty of veggies, noodles, and sauces to choose from. The recommended sauces were pretty tasty, but another thing that sets them apart is they have some seafood towards the end of their bowl line- shrimp and calamari. I tried two different bowls (I was really hungry) and neither bowl disappointed me. I tried a beef bowl and a chicken bowl, while my fiancé both chicken and beef into her same bowl. I also tried a few of their shrimp just because I'm not used to Mongolian bbq having any seafood. When we returned to the table with our bowls full and our stomachs empty we were greeted with two bowls of egg drop soup, a large bowl of rice, and a plate full of crispy fried wonton strips. Now finally onto the food- it was all superb. The sauces, meats, veggies, and starches all came together for a wonderful meal, like I said earlier I enjoyed it so much I had to go back for a second bowl. My fiancé loved her bowl as well, but could not finish and had to take it to go. The egg drop soup was good and extra thick if you like that, but personally I'm not a big fan of egg drop soup. Chang's is likely one of the, if not the best, local Mongolian bbq places in the Rancho-Folsom area. We will definitely be returning at some point to fill our bellies again. Best place in town! The chef and the stars are always so kind, welcoming, and beyond helpful! They always have classic side dishes waiting for you when you arrive. Where should one go after a nice hike along the river in Folsom? Mongolian Grill. It's been years since I've been here, so glad to revisit again. It's like nothing changed. Same level of great, attentive service. Love the dingy hole-in-the-wall type vibe. I came here for lunch with a group of 7. Arrived 11:30 am before the crowds came. Seated quickly and we were served wonton chips with dipping sauce, rice and egg soup (upon request). Self serve your ingredients. Years ago I don't recall them requiring gloves, but I truly agree and commend them for this approach now. First for hygiene purposes, but secondly use for smashing down your meats, veggies and noodles into the bowl so you can more bang for your buck. My eyes were more hungry so I took advantage of breaking down the frozen meats and crushing the veggies. Smart move? I think so as I walked away with left overs lol One rookie mistake I made was not saucing my bowl enough. Pro tip I was told was to double, triple the amount of sauce you think you need. They add water to your ingredients as they cook it. If you think you need to do AYCE - think twice. If you attempt the above method by smashing down your ingredients into the bowl, you'll have more than enough. Trust! I topped off my meal with self serve ice cream. Tastes just like Mc Donald's!!! Went to a late lunch here with a couple of buddies. We eat here about once a month. This is also my son's favorite Mongolian BBQ place and we stop in here whenever he's in Folsom. Your lunch includes wonton chips with sweet & sour sauce and a large bowl of white rice. The variety of items for your bowl is great. Beef, pork and chicken for meats and they're all tasty although I prefer the beef. The servers are always nearby and keep your drink topped off. The restaurant can get a little warm on those super hot days in the summer with the giant griddle running but it's manageable. Also be aware, that while the lunch is a bit less expensive, you are only allowed to make one trip through the line. I dined here on a Friday evening. The place was busy but we were quickly seated and given appetizers. Wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce, with white rice and soup. Wonton soup was good but was lukewarm and lacked flavor. Food: AYCE Mongolian BBQ I love that they provide gloves before entering the preparation station. That's very sanitary. They offer a variety of meats; chicken, beef, lamb. They were all good quality. The vegetables were all well stocked and fresh. The sauces were plentiful. I add a little of everything with extra kung pao and chili oil. The chefs turned my creation into a delicious bowl of happiness. I also extra loved that the water they used to cook the noodles, meats and veggies were taken from a stainless steel electric kettle. I've never seen this kind of thoughtfulness in a Mongolian BBQ before. They usually just use tap water to cook the noodles. Nice touch, Chang's :) My food was so delicious... Service was excellent. We love Chang's Mongolian Grill! Whenever my son comes home from LA, we drive 45 minutes just to eat here because the food is excellent. They offer a great selection of meats-chicken, beef, pork and Lamb - along with fresh vegetables and two noodle options. Calamari and shrimp are included at dinner. The sauce bar has many choices, there's a guide to help first-time customers mix flavors correctly. If the sauces seem weak, it's usually because not enough was added. Lunch and dinner come with fresh wonton chips, soup and vanilla soft-serve ice cream. At about $21.50 per person for all-you can eat dinner, it's a great value. Chang's has been one of my favorite restaurants in Folsom since I was in high school. I've tried numerous other Mongolian Grills in other nearby cities, and have yet to find any other that I like as much as Chang's. I believe lunch and dinner are both all-you-can-eat, but you can only take home leftovers on your first bowl. This has never been an issue for me, as I've never been able to finish my first bowl, and always end up taking some home. The price is the same no matter what you put in your bowl. I usually start with chicken and beef (seafood options are only available at dinner), and then add tons of my favorite vegetables, such as pineapple, bell peppers, tomatoes, carrots, mini corn, onions, etc. They do a pretty good job of keeping the buffet line stocked and clean. I don't think I've ever had an issue getting enough of whatever ingredients I wanted. Even though the noodles are located in the middle of the buffet, I put them on last. It's much easier to pack down noodles over veggies than vice versa. Once I've stacked my bowl as high as I can, I move on to the sauces. I noticed that other reviewers have complained about the sauces being watered down, but I think that's just because they are cooking sauces, not finishing sauces. I've never thought my food came out bland. I usually add at least a little cooking oil, a lot of cooking wine, garlic, ginger, and then whatever else I'm in the mood for. I don't have an exact formula, but usually add anywhere from four to eight scoops of sauces. It comes out a little bit different every time, but I've never been disappointed. I've loved every bowl I've ever created here. If you don't want any part in creating or assembling your own food, then, this may not be the right spot for you. If you are bringing friends, you may want to make sure they understand ahead of time that they will have to put their own bowls together. I recently brought a friend who made statements like, "I shouldn't have to make my own food. I could do that at home." Maybe some people could, but, as someone who lives alone, it's highly unlikely that I would ever have this many fresh vegetables and ingredients in my fridge all at the same time. Prices have gone up recently, just like they have everywhere else. I remember when a lunch bowl cost less than ten bucks per person, but now it's nearly twenty. Still not bad when you consider that I got like four meals out of my last bowl. Way back in the day, Chang's used to have a full menu, and diners could choose whether to order from the menu or the buffet. I'm not sure exactly why they got rid of the entire menu, but I miss it. They had some of the best cream cheese wontons around. Aside from the AYCE bowl, a meal at Chang's includes rice, wontons with sweet and sour sauce, and dessert. The dessert varies, but usually includes soft serve ice cream with optional sprinkles, chocolate sauce, and strawberry sauce, as well as some sort of jelly roll cake. I definitely don't come for the wontons, rice, or dessert, but usually end up eating some, anyway. Overall, Chang's is still the best Mongolian BBQ spot I know of. Pretty decent Mongolian grill, the one I used to go to in Elk Grove closed down so checked out this place. There is an option to do all-you-can-eat, but one bowl is all I need. Plus if you do one bowl and you don't finish your food, you can take the leftovers home. They have an okay selection to put in your bowl. The strategy is to smush all your ingredients down to make as much room as possible. I usually do noodles last since everything else can fall out of the bowl. If only they had noodles as the final option instead of having it in the middle. Can't complain about the sauces. It depends on you to add your own sauces and how it turns out. Our table came with soup, rice and fried wonton with sauce. Soup was so-so but the rice and fried wonton had filled me up plenty that I barely finished a quarter of my bowl. They also have vanilla yogurt available for dessert. The guy waiting our table was friendly and provided good service. For the price you pay I'd say this is pretty decent and the plus is that you get to take your leftovers home. For me that's like 2 or 3 extra meals! read more

We tried this friendly spot after a trip to the Folsom zoo. The meat and vegis were fresh and abundant. The service was friendly and fast. I see other people complaining about watered down seasoning, this is simply how Mongolian grill works. You use lots of sauce to steam the food and flavor. I used 12 scoops. The flavor was great and the food hot and fresh. The ice cream machine was also a hit. The inside of the dining area is somewhat dated, but not an issue for us. read more

Walking into this place feels a bit like going back in time. the interior is older, the wear and tear on the carpet + booths reflect its fine old age. I love that you build your own bowl of food exactly how you want it, down to every ingredient. If you have allergies though (gluten especially), this is not the place for you as all the food is prepped on the same surface and soy sauce abounds. The service is sufficient; your meal comes with wonton chips, rice, and soup. They have a soft serve ice cream machine as an added bonus if you still have room at the end of your meal. Let me tell you it smells so good from the outside to the inside of this place. The mongolian barbecue was good. I went at lunch time on a sunday and you make your own bowl. The one thing I did notice is they didn't have the shrimp or Oyster selection out. I don't know if they don't serve it at all or that was just because it was lunch. I also didn't see a buffet option but wasn't looking for it. The one bowl was enough especially if you stuff it pretty good! This is kind of random but cool is they have an ice cream machine and cones at no additional charge. I was pleasantly surprised about the flavor of the food. I would go back for sure when craving Mongolian. The only thing was their white rice wasn't cooked to perfection like some other asian places but its just an appetizer anyways. They also bring out some type of sauce with pork rind looking chips. The service was just okay nothing to write home to mom about. I've been to many Mongolian bbq places years ago so when I found Chang's nearby, I was super excited. Straight on the door, they showed you the All-You-Can-Eat price. I was a bit surprised as the price has increased in the past few months (looking from some previous pictures) but no problem as we were craving for dinner. When we entered, one of the staff noticed us. He pointed a booth for us and asked us to go straight to the buffet. They provided disposable gloves to keep the spoons clean. They have thin sliced pork, beef, chicken, and lamb, as well as tofu for protein. They also have shrimp & squid (previously frozen) at the end of the line - after the sauce section. The vegetable looked fresh and there were lots to choose from. I was super disappointed with the sauce. They were all watered down. For the first round, I put a ladleful of each sauce that I wanted but after it was cooked, the food was bland! So, for the second round, I put two ladlefuls of each sauce and still it was bland. For the third round, I basically doused my bowl with sauces and it finally tasted something. Also, the squid pieces that I picked wasn't cooked - was still raw & rubbery. With AYCE, you'll get a big bowl of rice, soup, and crispy wonton chips. The soup was bland. The crispy wonton chips were good. Overall, it was too expensive for the price. The meat & veggie quality were good but the sauce was meh. It was a solid 3.5 stars for me. read more
