They did change ownership a few years back and at first I wasn't thrilled at the menu change because they removed some things I loved but they make up for it w their current menu. It grew on me. The pho came in this two compartment bowl which had the broth on the bottom separated from the steak and raw onions above. Very convenient. My reason for visiting was for the beignets- which they no longer serve here, and the shaken beef with garlic noodles. Fair warning: It's not something I would recommend sharing with anyone, lol. He was the only one there helping all the tables &still managed to make me feel very taken care of. I came here to try their DineLA menu and since I've been doing DineLA this was my worst experience. I had lunch during the weekend, and I don't know if they were short-staffed and didn't have all their ingredients together or a combination of both, but the entire experience wasn't good. DineLA lunch menu consist of appetizer, entree and dessert. Two of the three items I ordered weren't available. What? It's still the weekend and shouldn't you be prepared on your supplies and staff?? I ordered chicken fries, ox tail pho & lotus cake. After placing my order I was told that there were no fries available. Isn't fries kind of a staple at restaurants? Isn't this what is typically ordered for kids so they can eat something?? Okay fine, no fries. It probably was for the better that I didn't eat fries and I had egg rolls instead. The oxtail pho was okay. The highlight of pho is always the broth. The broth here was okay, they probably use chicken stock or something with very light flavor. The bowl itself okay. There wasn't much meat in the soup. I mean there were more bones rather than the meat itself. This is where it gets really confusing. After being done with the meal, since there is only one person working all of the tables (and it started to get busy as we were eating) and phone orders we were kind of forgotten about. So it took a while to get his attention. The waiter probably forgot we got the DineLA menu, but as he was bussing the table he said there is no more Lotus cake. Another let down. He said that we could have milk tea instead. Okay, fine. I just wish he had told me prior to ordering so I wouldn't have had to by $25 per person meal for a lacking DineLA menu. He passes by shortly after and says there's one lotus cake available. I see another table get pandan ice cream and so do we as it was also ordered. Shortly after he gives us a black tea of some sort with boba. But still no cake. As he is bussing the last plate he says something that the cake will out shortly, but I couldn't completely understand what he said. Since we were there longer than we should have been we ask for the check and the black milk tea to go while we're still wondering about the supposed lotus cake that there was one more of. Again, we were ready to leave and should have left about 15 minutes ago. If you don't have the items on the menu, do not promote it while dining and telling the customers 'there are no fries" and after we were seated you start to say there is "no lotus cake". Also, you, the business know it is DineLA and yet you have missing items??! This is absurd! Seriously, what a disappointing DineLA meal. Located in the Vons shopping center, Lotus & Light is a cute little restaurant serving up some delicious Vietnamese staples such as pho. I walked in on a cold Sunday night in the mood for some hot soup. I was greeted within minutes by the server/hostess. She was running the entire restaurant, so I'm not sure what her title was, but she was amazing! The restaurant is cozy, with ample seating. Our drink orders were taken promptly. I had the Thai tea, which was delicious. Their menu is simple and straightforward, which I appreciated. I ordered the brisket pho. This pho has to be the best I've ever tried. I'm no pho expert, but it was amazing! The broth was super flavorful and rich, with loads of delicious rice noodles and brisket. It was simply perfect and everything I needed on that cold winter night. Now, to speak on the service... there was one woman, who was the only server attending to about 6-7 tables, assisting with takeout orders, seating people, taking orders, etc. She was running the entire restaurant by herself. The amazing thing is that we did not wait long at all for our drink orders to be taken, drinks and food to arrive, or anything. A soda refill was never even missed. Came here with the family to enjoy some yummy food and we're not disappointed. We started with some apps, order the wings you cannot go wrong with those and the eggs rolls. Service was great we were asked many times if we needed anything and waters were constantly replenished. Ordered delivery and really, really wanted to love this place. I'd been craving a banh mi super hard and when I saw a BOGO deal on DoorDash, my partner and I went all out. Unfortunately, Lotus & Light was a bit of a miss. We ordered the chicken rice, vegan banh mi, the chicken wings and the shrimp spring rolls. The spring rolls were pretty solid, although the rice paper was a bit gooey. The shrimp was a little bland and lacked the brightness that usually comes in a spring roll, but the dipping sauce disguised a lot of that. My partner seemed content with the chicken rice, describing it as good but not something he'd crave again. The chicken wings were really unique; the nuoc cham was an interesting accompaniment. They were fried beautifully. Onto the vegan banh mi... this was such a disappointment that it tarnished the whole meal. Credit to L&L for using wonderfully crusty baguette, however the entire sandwich was dry and lacking. The tofu tasted a little stale (not in a deliciously stinky tofu manner either) and it soured each bite. There were no do chua pickled veggies to add depth. The jalapeños were sad and sparse. There was no cilantro, no leafy greens, nothing to make each bite taste anything other than dessert dry. I ended up pulling some greens out of the spring rolls and splashing some nuoc cham in there to make the sandwich feel a bit more complete. I also added a heavy scoop of Lao Gan Ma to try to balance out the sandwich... after all these additions, it was almost tolerable. However, if I've reached the level of ordering a sandwich delivery, the last thing I want to do is have to remake the sandwich at home. I'm hoping it was a one-off bad night and that trying again in the future would yield better results. read more

Overall, the food was good and the ambiance was pretty but nothing overly "WOW" about it. Ordered the steak spring roll and it was delicious and a decent size! Honestly, it was super fresh but wish they served it with peanut sauce instead of fish sauce. I got the steak pho and while the broth was light, it wasn't super flavorful. It was still a good bowl of pho, just not very wow. The portion size for the price ($15.90) was surprising. I've spent less on 2x the bowl size and much more flavorful. We were starving after a Griffith Park hike and decided to stop here. We shared a bowl of pho, shrimp spring rolls, pork bun, and shaken beef. The shrimp spring rolls were fresh and tasty - I usually find this boring but they were fresh and well made. Pho was ok, nothing standout about the broth. The bun with egg roll was pretty good although it lacked some of the fresh herbs I like when I order this from Nong La. It was a very large portion and they gave a lot of pork. We ordered the shaken beef with the garlic noodles and extra shrimp. It was a very generous portion of shrimp and they were large and fresh. The shaken beef was good but I had just ordered it the day before in SGV and the sauce was a little too sweet here. My friend who is Viet was not very pleased with that. Service was very friendly. If I lived in the area I'm sure I'd come back but wouldn't go here over my local favorites or more authentic places. read more

Happened to be in the North Hollywood area and found this cool, hipstery fusion joint. And I'm so glad I did! The atmosphere was nice and the tables were cleaned. It wasn't that busy for a Friday afternoon, which if you read the other reviews, people be acting like it's jam packed. But maybe it is at night? Or at least I hope so, because this place is delicious and filling as hell. I went in during LA dine week, but I just ended up ordering off the regular menu because I didn't feel like soup. And they don't let you mix and match on the LA Dine vs the regular menu. (Which ok, fine.) Anyway, the lovely waitress helped me (Black girl with beautiful curly hair and glasses) choose between some items as everything looked so good and thank god she did. It was a home run. I ordered the Beef fries which is a delicious concoction of fries, spicy Mayo, beef and jalapeños and damn was my mouth on fire... but it was too delicious to resist. And then I ended up getting a pork banh mi sandwich, and left without finishing the other half because I was so full. (I packed up the half and ate it the next day, warmed it up in the oven it was still delicious). Anyway, everything I ordered was hot, fresh, crispy, spicy and delicious. And I would absolutely come here again. I also ordered the sparkling limeade drink and that def put some hair on my chest that was so sour. Love this place!
