Happened to be in the North Hollywood area and found this cool, hipstery fusion joint. And I'm so glad I did! The atmosphere was nice and the tables were cleaned. It wasn't that busy for a Friday afternoon, which if you read the other reviews, people be acting like it's jam packed. But maybe it is at night? Or at least I hope so, because this place is delicious and filling as hell. I went in during LA dine week, but I just ended up ordering off the regular menu because I didn't feel like soup. And they don't let you mix and match on the LA Dine vs the regular menu. (Which ok, fine.) Anyway, the lovely waitress helped me (Black girl with beautiful curly hair and glasses) choose between some items as everything looked so good and thank god she did. It was a home run. I ordered the Beef fries which is a delicious concoction of fries, spicy Mayo, beef and jalapeños and damn was my mouth on fire... but it was too delicious to resist. And then I ended up getting a pork banh mi sandwich, and left without finishing the other half because I was so full. (I packed up the half and ate it the next day, warmed it up in the oven it was still delicious). Anyway, everything I ordered was hot, fresh, crispy, spicy and delicious. And I would absolutely come here again. I also ordered the sparkling limeade drink and that def put some hair on my chest that was so sour. Love this place! Highly recommend the banh mi - we tried chicken, pork, beef and the spring rolls Drinks were not too sweet either - vietnamese coffee, passionfruit tea, thai iced tea I don't know if the guy working on July 4th is the owner or manager but I trust him with my life - he was on absolute roomba mode, helping every table, greeting people at the door, following up and filling up drinks - I felt like I was in a museum watching it all happen. Combined with the pork and vegetable eggrolls we really enjoyed our meal. My lady ordered the shrimp pho with vegetable egg rolls and they also did not disappoint! Got the pho and it is more like hipster modern western in terms of the broth needs more aromatics like traditional pho. I needed to add a lot to get some flavor to the broth including salt. Super bummed ... this used to be our favorite spot because the broth is so good.. but we are pretty sure that there are new owners, because the difference in service quality is palpable. Pho is some of the fastest food to ever be ready to go when you're hungry, but we got our food after waiting for about 40 min... left the restaurant after 1 hour and 10 minutes. I feel bad cuz they seem to always be understaffed... I WISH THE OWNERS WOULD DO SOMETHING......every time the pho comes, you have to ask for spoons. Like, why doesn't that come automatically? Tonight, our visitor asked for a coke, to which they replied, "sorry we can't get you that because the system is down." Wait, what? It was a can of coke.......... Just a heads up, the bone marrow broth is a great concept but the broth didn't come with star anise... unlike the rest of their soups... which was confusing. We all used to work at restaurants, but man... the service has been so consistently bad and inattentive the past 4 times, I really don't know if we can come back. We will just have to break up with the broth or order it to go... I've been here a few times before and after COVID. I've noticed some slight changes to the place. Parking: plenty of plaza parking. Most cars are here for Vons or Starbucks. Service: the servers were usually pretty friendly, but it took ages for the food to be served. Food: -Chicken over Rice: The dipping sauce (spicy ginger & onions) still tastes solid. I wasn't a big fan of the chicken, as it tasted very "dry" vs what it used to taste like. One could still slightly taste the chicken broth infused in the rice, but a bit bland. I ended up dipping my chicken in hubby's green sauce used for for his large charbroiled prawns. -Chicken wings: looked crispy on the outside and slightly over fried. -Large Charbroiled Prawns over Rice: Hubby's first time trying this dish. Great find. I was in the area and decided to try Lotus & Light. I placed a togo order for bun vermicelli with charbroiled pork. I opted for shrimp and egg roll add-pn for $3. In total my food came out to ~$18 which is a little much for a lunch but fair for the portion and the quality. I throughly enjoyed my food. The flavor was great and food was fresh. I thought there was ample amount of pork which is rare nowadays. The restaurant is nice and clean. Plenty of seating. I did pickup but the interaction I had with the staff team was pleasant. I thought we sat down to a peaceful dinner but a few minutes later these 2 clueless parents let their 2 kids run completely wild in the restaurant. It was a little girl and a littler boy. I was in utter disbelief! First the little boy took a pair of chopsticks and started drumming on an empty table. Patrons and employees were looking around confused probably thinking the same thing. How are these moron parents allowing this? He ran to another table, beating the table as hard as he could, and humming a tune. The little girl ran over and slugged him upside the head. He started shrieking at the top of his lungs. Finally his idiot mother yelled out, "Leo!" And took him outside briefly. They came back in and I look over and the boy is standing in front of my table staring intently at me. He quickly lost interest, dashed away, and I heard a loud crash a minute later. Walking into the restaurant, you can feel the nice ambiance and airy feel to the room. It's a good size place with big windows. We ordered beef combination pho and pork vermicelli. The beef combination pho was very delicious. The broth was a good mix of salty and sweet. The brisket meat they used was more on the juicier side which I like. The pork vermicelli was refreshing. They took a modern twist to it and added salad vegetables on the bowl which I thought was very nice. I like the crunch that it gives and the pork was nicely seasoned. The pho place that we like is closed on the weekends so we needed to try a new place and based on Uber Eats, this is rated one of the best pho place to eat. We ordered two beef combo pho, egg rolls and charbroiled pork. This is called Lotus and Light. I must say the name is perfect for their pho is light on flavor. Beef flavor is almost nonexistent and the broth is so oily that it settles on top. The beef/steak is very minimal, I think from what I counted there's only 5 very thin slices of steak and 2 quartered pieces of meatballs. As for the bean sprouts, there's not a lot too, picture shows only about 1/4 cup of it. Our order came in with no condiments, no hot sauce nor hoisin sauce. Lotus and Light once gave Mama Hong's the run for their money, but not anymore. The restaurant must have gone through a management change in recent months because gone is the previous quality of the food and menu items that made Lotus and Light stand out from other Vietnamese restaurants in Burbank. We would skip phò in the SGV or in OC to come back home for the chá giò because Lotus and Light made the best fried egg rolls and gòi cuòn. The restaurant has a new team, as well--one server overwhelmed after being told that I'd wait for the Vietnamese coffee. The ambiance in the dining area is still really nice but the sink area in the ladies' room could use a good cleaning. It's too bad--the previous management knew how to make a phò place in Burbank work. Save yourself some disappointment money, make your way to Mama Hong's or to Feu Phò if you want quality and service. read more

Well, well, well, Lotus & Light has gone and made me give them five stars! Do you know how hard it is to find a decent banh mi in the Valley? One thing is for sure, not only is the pork banh mi good, you will find yourself thinking about the delicate, sophisticated smokiness of the meat and the crispy yet chewy baguette. Fine, you may not get the kind you're accustomed to in the SGV (Yo, where's the pâté?), but this pretty much hits the spot. They also have a veggie banh mi that your vegan loved ones will appreciate as well. By the way, extra points for the price point: $11 per sandwich (pick up order as of January 2024) in this economy is a win-win. Each sandwich is about a foot long -- I had to cut the sandwich in half to fit on my plate at home. Accompanied by a side of spring rolls, I was pretty stuffed! I saved the other half for tomorrow's lunch. Damn. I can't wait. Give this restaurant some love. We need to keep this precious shop in business because the 818 is a bit of a black hole for decent banh mi sandwiches. Next time, I'm going to try their pho. read more

This place is solid. We got there around 9:15p and were informed that they serve only pho after 9, which is what we were there for, but it's good to note. The broth and fixings were delicious. The jalapeños were actually spicy. Bum jalapeños are a pet peeve. I wouldn't recommend the oxtail as it was really bland and had very little meat. Our server Andrea was awesome! Really attentive and helpful, just a genuinely likable person. I did point out the poor portion of oxtail and she had the kitchen give me a few more pieces. This place is hands down the BEST pho in Burbank and surrounding areas. I even prefer it more than mama hongs. The staff is always super friendly and attentive.
