Being new to the Austin area my husband and I wanted to find a good Chinese restaurant. We found it! The location in a shopping mall is okay because it's easy access and easy parking. The food is authentic and served quickly and hot. The family that runs the business are very friendly and attentive. The Sesame Fish is unique and delicious. The mooshu pork is some of the best we have had in any state. Th Hot and Sour Seafood Soup is delicious with plenty of shrimp and scallops. We tried the restaurant Chinatown (which is just down the street) for comparison twice. Lotus Hunan won hands down. They also walk in and phone in orders to go. read more

I have never had a problem with this place. My friends and I used to go here all the time - they have really great, cheap, and fast lunch specials. My family never wants to go here...I guess they are pretty partial to some other places in the area...so I haven't been in a while. People either love it or hate it I guess. I ate here with my husband one day when we were running errands in the Westlake area and saw that this restaurant was packed for lunch. Previously we had tried 2 other restaurants in the area and were disappointed, so I was hoping this would be a different experience but it was not. I ordered "Shrimp in Garlic Sauce" and it was supposed to be "Hot & Spicy". The menu indicated that the heat level could be adjusted, but when it came time to order the waiter did not even ask what "level of heat" I wanted so I figured it was no big deal, I like heat anyway. Well once we got our plates the first thing I noticed is that it was more like Water Chestnuts with Shrimp sauce. And NO heat what so ever. My husbands plate was similar, some sauced up chicken with more peanuts than anything else. I've been going to this place now for years and always have a wonderful experience when I eat in or pick up food. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. They remember me when I come in and ask how I'm doing. We know eachother by name. As for the food, it's delicious Chinese food and our go-to place. Great place for a business, family or get together lunch. Very clean, nice atmosphere, good service. They have a nice selection of Americanized Chinese lunch specials. You can get the special for avg. $6.95 per person. The special comes with soup, egg roll, fried won ton, entree, fried rice or steamed rice. Great spot for lunch. Consistent, lightening quick, inexpensive with friendly service. Fairly traditional Chinese-American menu with little to no surprises, but the dishes are well prepared and fresh. Good flavor too. Stopped by to revisit a childhood favorite. Sadly, it was not what I remembered. The pros are: great lunch specials and good/friendly service. The cons were the food. The soup and egg roll were alright but I tried the General Tso's chicken and it was very salty and flavorless at the same time. It looked nothing like any General Tso's I'd ever had before. I sent it back and they kindly let me try something else - the sesame chicken. Pretty hard to screw up but that didn't taste good either. The chicken was dry and over fried, chopped up into tiny bits. Also bland! Hate to say I won't be returning and the other option - ChinaTown nearby doesn't cut it either. Bummer. With all that Westlake money you'd think there'd be better food options! read more

Place was clean. Staff was very nice and attentive. Probably the worst General Tso's I've ever had. VERY small pieces of chicken when there was some. Seemed mostly like it was just bits of breading (think bottom of a bag of chips). It also had some type of sour mushrooms. The hot & sour soup was ok. I'm rounding up to 5 stars based on another solidly delicious lunch enjoyed at the Lotus Hunan today. I had something off of the specials board: the ginger scallion chicken. It was LOADED with fresh ginger and scallion flavor, and just the right amount of spicy heat. Loved it. My lunch mate got the spicy chicken and green beans, and was equally impressed. Again, the service was speedy and attentive, and the total bill was less than $10/pp., even with drinks. read more

This place is horrendous. I just got General Tso's and Sesame Chicken delivered with crab rangoons, egg drop soup, and hot and sour soup. Besides the egg drop soup, it is all indelible. I was so hungry that I managed to get down the Sesame Chicken, but the General Tso's is unbearable. I called back and complained and they at least took the latter off my bill, but, seriously, don't waste your time or money. This place is terrible. read more

Service: It was great. You have to understand that lot of Asian employed restaruants are very quick. That's how they naturally are. What drinks would you like, appetizers, your dirty plates, etc. I really appreciated when our waiter asked whether we were done with whichever plates versus just picking them up each time she stopped by. Also, she was very much on top of her feet when refilling our waters. The food: We went in and we each ordered a lunch special. For me, I ordered the general tso chicken. The lunch special included a soup, eggroll, meat / entree and a type of rice. I chose the egg drop soup and fried rice. I personally thought my soup was a little too salty, but the best edible thing I had. The fried rice was nothing special and bland. The chicken's seasoning was okay and not as crispy as I'd like it to be. I prefered my boyfriend's sesame chicken. It had a good flavor but the texture wasn't all that great. Overall, this place is targeted towards people with a western tongue who typically enjoys Panda Express or doesn't really have any sort of standards for food. And to be honest with you, I prefer Panda Express's food. read more

I've known the Vo family for as long as I can remember. The food is great, and every time I go in there they treat me like family. They have better soup than any other restaurant in town. When I was young, I would frequently make their wonton soup my main course--a habit I've taken into adulthood. I won't bother trying to describe individual dishes; everything they have is good. My favorite dishes are too numerous to list, but anything with chicken or scallops ranks pretty high. read more

A great locally owned and operated family restaurant that is also family friendly, they even let my 4-year order her, own food. They greet you with a smile and even remember me by name, even though I haven't been there in over 4 months. From the exterior you wouldn't believe that this restaurant was any good, considering it looks like a hole in the wall. However, this is truly a diamond in the rough when it comes to good Asian food! I have not tasted any better Chinese food in my entire life, and I've been to many different Chinese places. This place truly takes the cake. It's good and delicious every time I visit. I've been going to this restaurant for so many years, the owners know me and my family by name! The atmosphere in the restaurant is usually pretty calm, but don't let that fool you. The employees are kind, welcoming and the service is excellent and fast! My favorite things to get is the beef and broccoli, combination noodles, and on occasion sweet and sour chicken. They always provide rice on the side. Might I also add their wonton soup is delicious. All in all, I highly recommend this location for consistently delicious Chinese food! read more

Only had the house special lo mein - excellent. Nice amount of the proteins , not like most places that skimp. I had at least 7 or 8 pieces of shrimp, lots of beef and chicken.
