    This is a modern twist on Palestinian cuisine. My recommendation is to follow the suggestions of your server but also if you have any preferences to let them know so they can help steer you! The standouts for us were all the breads, the moutabal and the must order lamb. Beautiful space and exceptional customer service!

    Such an enjoyable evening! We decided to check out this little place across from Casa Loma, and expectations were exceeded. From the wonderful dishes to the stories behind every piece, we were treated to a lavish experience that left our hearts (and stomaches) full! While louf has only been around for 6 months, I believe it is quickly becoming a significant part of the Casa Loma neighbourhood. whether dining inside the carefully-decorated interior, or sitting outside on the cute floral patio, your experience is going to be a lovely one!

    Louf took me to travel to the Levantine area and forget about the dirty snowbank outside in winter Toronto for 1.5 hrs. We opted for a $60 lunch set menu which would limit us to a quick 45-minute lunch, however, we ended up enjoying a slow lunch for a longer period with no issues. Both taboun & zaatar bread were either made from rye, spelt, or a mixture of regular flour & whole wheat which was so different from bread options at other restaurants. Tasted so healthy and not oily at all. Simple fermented chili condiments were great for spicy chili lovers like me, I thought it was such a brave choice to add that to the set menu though. Green olives that were also part of the set menu condiments were very delish! They were small, firmer, and had just the right amount of saltiness. A star of the show was red lentil soup though. Not sure how without chicken stock, this vegan soup had so much flavor. It was very very good. Olive oil drizzle also added a silky texture and I loved the lemony taste after. When I thought two pieces of bread and a bowl of soup could have been just enough for lunch, the main dishes were served. Well.. I could always make extra room for the main course. By the way, the service was very attentive. The serving staff gave us enough time to finish the course by course, yet checked on us to clear the table. It was neither rushed nor slow. The only meat dish of the day was the main dish, beef stew( Yakhini) with tamarind sauce, pomegranate molasses, & pomegranate. Very different than your ordinary beef stew. The meat was in between tender and chewy which I liked, the sauce had a bit of acidity and sweetness, that made heavy meat dishes to be balanced summer dishes. Tried the other option for the main dish, a vegan flaky phyllo pastry, filled with spiced "freekeh" grains, dried raisins & apricots & almonds on top. The combination of grain, dried fruit, and nuts in flaky pastry was so much fun to eat. The finale was sage ice cream from Nablus Creamery ( I believe they make Arabic-style ice cream). The texture was stickier and stretchy, later on, I learned from Google research that they add natural mastic gum to hold ice cream from hot weather that was why. Cool. Lastly, did I know that this restaurant follows NO tip policy? No, I was not aware. Imagine my face when was looking at the credit card terminal with no tip option. It was a pleasant lunch dining experience.

    I'm always down to eat some tasty Middle Eastern food, so when I heard about Louf, I was pretty stoked to check it out. We arrived at around noon on a recent Saturday and the place was sparsely populated. We were shown to a nice table on the second floor and I began perusing the menu. We decided to share a few things: hummus bil lahma ("chickpeas, tahinia, lemon, ghee, beef, spices, pine nuts"): This was probably the highlight. The hummus itself was solid (albeit nothing terribly mind-blowing) but that beef was really tasty. It was super tender and flavorful, and definitely enhanced what could've been a run-of-the-mill bowl of hummus. (I will say that the one major problem with this dish was the bread that we ordered alongside it. The pita bread was as hard as a cracker, essentially, and the other bread was more of a loaf type. The great thing about hummus is using super soft pita bread as a vehicle, which didn't happen here.) batata maqliya bil sumac ("fried potatoes, cilantro, parsley, garlic, lemon-sumac yogurt"): This is a decent fried potato dish. The lemon-sumac yogurt sauce is the clear highlight here, as it's zesty and quite addictive. The potatoes themselves are not bad, but the cook on them was a little erratic (i.e. some were nice and crispy, while others were close to raw). There's definitely a lot of potential on display ar Louf, so hopefully some of the kinks will be ironed out soon.

    Stopped by the Cactus Club Cafe in Toronto after the Blue Jays game. This is a great spot for late…read morenight drinks/food. When you arrive you have the option to sit on the first floor or upstairs on the rooftop bar. I believe this is the only multi-level Cactus Club Cafe I've ever been to. We opted for the rooftop bar which had a high energy, upscale, and stylish vibe to it. We ended up sitting at the bar as it was very crowded. I ordered a frozen Aperol Spritz which was excellent and I could drink a few of these. For food we ordered a burger and fries which was good but nothing to write home about. If you are looking for a late night spot for drinks and food the Cactus Club Cafe is a solid choice.

The place SEEMED quiet but shortly thereafter the place got JAMMED! Initially it was slow service but it picked up shortly. We had several different servers so no single server is tagged here. I will say that it's a hip, nicely equipped restaurant. We decided to do an appie meal. We ordered Sichuan Chicken lettuce wraps ($25.50)..this was the best of the appies. The next was the Crab Dip ($20.75), it was hot but not overly tasty. 3rd was the Hot Chicken Bites with pickles ($16.00). They were ok but not hot in temp enough. The final was the Chili Citrus Calamari ($21.25). This was the worse of the dishes. Simply put, it was cold. The server removed this from our bill. In summary...I wouldn't go out of my way again to go here but given all things being equal, the servers were very good. As a final note...the bathroom was very clean & well maintained.

From the vibes to the food, everything was top notch. Tyler took care of our group and made sure that we got an experience rather than just a meal. Upon being seated we got napkins to match our outfits so the white lint didn't get on our black pants , an incredible guava passion fruit cocktail to try and a meat presentation to make sure we all order like pros from here on out. The food was incredible- one our tastebuds won't forget! Our group of 5 started with fresh sushi and sashimi, table side Caesar salad and the softest brioche served with sun-dried tomato butter that was perfect in every way. Main course: Australian wagyu ribeye that we didn't even have to chew plus a strip loin and beef Wellington (which was maybe the only thing I don't need to order again, but still delicious). All the sides were amazing and finally sticky toffee pudding and butter cake to put us in a complete food coma. Wouldn't change a thing about this meal. We cannot thank you enough Tyler (and Toronto!!)!

I found myself wanting to try most of the cocktails, which is a rarity. We got the Strawberry Tetsu to start (inspired by Uncle Tetsu's Japanese cheesecake), along with the Cloudy Oolong (tea-based cocktail with a salted caramel cheese foam). The Strawberry Tetsu tasted like a dessert and was delicious, with a graham cracker crumble rim. The Cloudy Oolong had a strong tea taste which I loved, as sometimes the tea can get lost in a cocktail. The foam on top was addicting and paired nicely with it, similar to a bubble tea. Next, I had the Burnt Yuzu which was light and refreshing from the citrus. The bar is hidden behind Misfit Ice Cream, with a speakeasy vibe to the interior. Large windows line one wall with a view to the exterior, but are tinted enough that people walking by cannot see in. Service was great, although they do have a strict 1 hr 45 min time limit for seating, regardless of whether the bar is packed or not.

Located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel, the restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. The dining room is absolutely stunning with a classy and luxurious feel, but it still feels comfortable and inviting rather than too formal. We started the evening with cocktails before moving into the Summerlicious menu. I ordered the "I Only Drink When I Smoke," which was a great way to start the night. It had a subtle smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness, and the alcohol was not overpowering at all. It was smooth, easy to sip on, and the perfect drink to enjoy while having conversations. For my Summerlicious menu, I started with the Tartare de Boeuf and Caviar. The filet mignon tartare was fresh and really smooth, with a nice balance of rich and savoury flavours. The toasted bread also gave it a nice crunch and paired really well with the tartare. For the main course, I had the Roasted Chateaubriand Filet. When the plate was served, the meat looked really rare as I saw nothing but red on the meat, but it was incredibly tender, making it easy to cut through. It was full of flavour, and the sauce complemented the steak without being too heavy or salty. The vegetables added a nice balance to the dish, and the creamy mashed potatoes were smooth, and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. To finish, I had the Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. It was creamy without feeling too heavy. Though the fruity flavours from the mango passionfruit were a bit tart and sweet for my palate, it still gave an overall refreshing touch. The crust added a nice texture, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing of the evening. Each course arrived at the right time, allowing us to enjoy every dish without feeling rushed. The price point is definitely on the higher end, so it is not somewhere I would personally visit for a casual dinner on a regular basis. However, for a special occasion, celebration, or a night where you want to enjoy a beautiful dining experience, I think Louix Louis would be a great choice... and for $75/ person for Summerlicious/ Winterlicious, definitely a great value to sample the chefs' artistry. Overall, it was a memorable evening with an elegant atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and great service. I can definitely understand why this spot has become such a popular destination, and I would love to come back again for Winterlicious!

That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
