Great restaurant to check out in key west. The views are amazing and the staff are pretty great. We went to the tapas restaurant upstairs which is beautiful and shared about five plates of food for four people. We started off with the shrimp fritters which were very delicious and came with a great curry yogurt sauce. Then we had the conch salad which was really good but the plantains chips it was paired with were a little stale. Next we had the pork belly which was so good and fatty the sauce was a marmalade cucumber mix that was great. Followed by that we had the shaking beef which was my favorite dish definitely could've ate two dishes by my self! To finish on impulse we tried the truffle fries which was recommended to us by the waitress which was pretty good. Overall good experience would definitely recommend this restaurant read more

Tonight my siblings and I treated our parents to experience the place we rave about all the time ... Louie's Backyard. Everything was delicious ... from the boston salad, to the lamb chops, kids rib eye, and the swordfish. Highly recommend all of the above. Sadly my waitress ruined my experience tonight. As the family wrapped up with their desserts, I visited the ladies room. While I was in there I clearly overheard our waitress was making fun of my family with the bartender at the bar located right outside the ladies room. (It was quiet because it was almost closing time, not that she was at all discrete about it.) It was distasteful and very upsetting. read more

My spouse and I had dinner here New Year's Eve. We shared a salad with blue cheese and roasted pecans. For entrees I had stuffed quail with spaetzle and she had tuna with hoisin sauce. Key lime pie for dessert. My spouse had coffee with brandy and Grand Marnier. Pros: charming old-fashioned ambience and lovely ocean views, quail was delicious, salad good, wait staff friendly and responsive. Cons: tuna overdone (ordered medium rare; one of two pieces came out right, the other medium well); long wait for entrees (40 minutes); pie was meh. The reservation system seems like a train wreck; the couple in front of us had called that afternoon and confirmed a reservation at 9, but were told at the front desk it was for 9:30. On the whole a pleasant dinner but not what it could have been. read more

They say they are "dog friendly" and are right next to the dog beach (which is tons of fun) but they are not dog friendly! They only serve food at their outside bar. Even though they have tons of tables outside you could sit at. Those are just for cocktails, which makes no sense. So I tried to sit at the bar and they wouldn't let me with my 12 year old? So how do you expect me to eat, if you can't sit down with the dog at an outside table and you can't eat at the bar with a child? When I told him I was going somewhere else he just waved me off and said "bye" this place is unbelievably rude and I will never take my dog or kid back!!! read more

Dining at Louie's is truly an experience. Last year we went with a party of 5 having only last minute reservations and were graciously seated. We ate samples of everything. Appetizers, 5 different entrees, deserts and drinks. Sharing was not looked down on. I loved the seafood but I always get seafood in KW. The shrimp were KW pinks and the snapper flakey and cooked to perfection. Sauces added to the delicious main dish without being overwhelming. The price was reasonable and service was good. I highly recommend Louie's Backyard for those looking for a great meal in a friendly upscale place. read more

We have been going here for many years when we visit key west. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly and had a really nice server who was very attentive. I ordered the Bibb lettuce salad which was delicious and also the yellowtail which was the evening special. I was so disappointed! It was way over cooked and dry . Expensive: Absolutely But it is so worth it. The food was WOW! Greens Stuffed Chicken Breat W/ Spaetzle, Sauteed Shrimp with Stoneground Grits, Grilled NY Steak; we all thoroughly enjoyed our entrees. My wife and I split a large salad she had ordered as an appetizer. Even that was special. We were seated inside but right near open french style doors so we were able to see the sunset and experience the ambience of eating overlooking the water. Beautiful. The staff was very attentive and although they have a french flair we did not find them rude at all. They were more than happy to tell us all about Jimmy Buffett's former living quarters in the house next door. Truly a memorable experience! read more

A hidden gem in a posh neighborhood. We had the mahi mahi tacos and they were perfect; best in the keys. The salad on the side was very good, and presented well....The view is spectacular with a deck right out to the beach. We ate lunch and thought it was a bit pricey but the food was great so I'll take it! I saw concerns about service; yes it is a bit slow, however, it's an island; relax enjoy the view and the company. Louie's Backyard was recommended by a friend and decided to give it a shot. I was very impressed that not only was the restaurant by the water, the deck was over the water! One important thing to keep in mind is the menu provides all the key points on a meal, but doesn't note all the components that will be on the plate; be sure to ask. Great views, good food, and it's Key West! Louie's is on my favorite walking/running route from Duval Street to Smather's Beach and beyond, so I pass it often when in town. I've eaten there with my wife and friends on several occasions. I recommend eating out back for the oceanfront ambiance. The price and corresponding value is my only reservation. This restaurant is 5th on my list of dining places in Key West, so when I have 5 nights to eat out when in town, I eat there. Definitely recommended. read more

This gorgeous restaurant was by far our favorite place during our stay in key west. Outdoor seating had a breathtaking view, the ambience was romantic and intimate. We went to Louie's for the weekend brunch and it was absolutely perfect. We had the famous conch fritters that come with a ridiculous sauce and wasabi. For the main dishes we had the snapper sandwich and the lobster roll and both were out of this world. If you're looking for a quieter place on the water, the views are perfect and the food is better. read more

The Afterdeck for Lunch is our favorite thing to do on a sunny afternoon but get your order in before 230PM because the kitchen closes at 3pm to prep for dinner. Fish tacos are the way to go--pair it with a Session Lager and you'll be set. Lots of Locals at the Bar and Terry the bartender is awesome even if he's a Red Sox fan! The setting is so beautiful, perfect for sunset, romantic, right on the water, spectacular views, and yes you can just drift away listening to the sounds of the waves! Wonderful surprise experience. Had no reservation but got right in upstairs and sat at a romantic table for two looking out at the water in a private alcove! Fried artichokes and fries dipped in fontina, delicious. But even better were the gnocchi and shaking beef, tender and tasty. Good service with a great view of the sea. We ordered the daily fresh catch and it was very delicious. The sandwich how ever was not impressive. Stopped at this great outdoor bar on sunday 10/16 late afternoon. Unfortunately, the bartender seemed perturbed by our arrival. The "tude" continued while ordering drinks. Maybe she was having a bad day but I don't like spending money in a place where you are not treated warmly. Will not be back! read more

Wonderful dinner. Some of the best seafood I've had. Had a group of 4 and everyone was quite impressed. To start, the service was superb. Had JR as our server and he was great. The appetizer selection was unique but also had multiple classics. Everyone was impressed with their entree's. The swordfish was spectacular and their signature shrimp dish was also very good.
