Our visit to Louie's was for Sunday brunch. First off...make a reservation. Whether for brunch or dinner...definitely call first. When we arrived we did notice the host/hostesses a bit stressed out by walk ins. Some restaurants are good with managing walk up patrons...this is not one of them :). So...with a reservation the experience here was lovely. We were seated right away outside. The views from almost every table are beautiful. You are on a deck right over the ocean. It makes for a great backdrop and ambiance. Our waitress was one of the nicest we've ever had. Seriously. Just genuine and sweet. I think her name was Milica (I'm sure I'm spelling that wrong). I just loved her. We started with two beautifully made bloody mary's. They were delicious! I had the fried anchovy stuffed olives. I just had to try these and holy cow they were awesome. So addicting! These would be a perfect snack to have at the bar later in the day too. I highly recommend them for any time of day actually! My breakfast was a classic egg over easy with bacon and hubby got the waffles with berries. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious. The waffles had a generous helping of berries that my better half shared with me. We enjoyed our visit tremendously....it was a very relaxing and pleasant way to spend a Sunday morning! read more

I had not been to Louie's Backyard since the late 80's. I went while on a spring break trip to Key West because my wife had never been and wanted to try it (the kids stayed behind in the condo and my wife and I had a date night). I was ready to be disappointed. The place has been around for a long, long time and it has been over 20 years since Norman Van Aken, its highly-regarded alumnus chef, had left the building. I was dead wrong. My wife and I had one of our best meals ever. First, it was a beautiful night in Key West (the morning had set a new low for April 9). Second, we got a great small table on the narrow porch on the first floor--better than on the deck--with a great view of the full moon. Third, our waiter, Richard, was excellent. Fourth, and most important, the food was excellent. My wife had the arugula salad with blue cheese and the special of the day, yellowtail. She loved them (I tried them, I concur). I had the heirloom tomato salad with fried mozzarela and the shrimp and grits. Both excellent. We split a dessert, butterscotch pudding, and it was also great. The wine list is fairly priced. All in all, a great meal. read more

Wow. This place is ROMANTIC! The atmosphere and views might take your breath away. The food we had was good but pricey. The cocktails were nothing special and pricey. Did I mention the romantic atmosphere? Make a reservation for whatever time sunset will occur. read more

You will need reservations here anytime for lunch or dinner. Front of house are surly and rude without a reservation. The place fits better in Palm Beach than here. Food is decent but on the high side. Today there was a full house for lunch and a one hour wait. We moved through to Siberia on The Aftedeck where the bartender was super. read more

We came her on the recommendation of a friend, and it was great. Fabulous outdoor terrace right on the water; cheerful, competent service; good drinks. The seared ground tuna sandwich was amazing; so was the yellow snapper sandwich. Great food, amazing views, cool ambiance. I was with a group of girls for a bachelorettte party in Key West last week/weekend and, upon the recommendation of our hotel staff, we visited Louie's backyard on our first day in town. We returned twice and loved it each time. Highly recommend that you stop here for lunch or just to the Afterdeck (connected to the restaurant) for some drinks. read more

Great outdoor lounge, beautiful indoor or outdoor dining, great small plate dining upstairs and all with a fabulous view of the ocean and beach. One of the best seafood meals I've ever had. Friendly and helpful staff. If you're going to Key West and appreciate fine dining you owe to yourself to visit Louie's. read more

We were married in Key West on the beach at sunset. Perfect. My aunt recommended Louie's Backyard for our celebratory dinner. It was very romantic from the lighting to the breezes coming off the water. The wait staff was impeccable and no one at our table of 8 was in want of anything. This was place was awesome! They're mojito's are amazing!! It's right on the water and the views are beautiful!! The food was delish! The fried stuffed olives are a must get!! My only complaint was the very rude and unprofessional manager named Lila. From the time we walked in the door from the time we left, she was rude, unprofessional, and very inhospitable. We ate here twice once @ the tapas bar on top & again @ the main restaurant. I wanted to try this place since it was mentioned in a Jimmy Buffett song. Both levels had great wine and good food. The lower level is fancier & more expensive but the view is incredible! I had a pork chop with a sweet potato mash & it was very good. When we ate @ the Tapas bar we ended with chocolate fondue & my husband wonders how one makes homemade marshmallows :) Wonderful place! read more

Delicious Sunday brunch. The menu was so appetizing that we struggled to choose. I had a tuna burger, which was good. My husband raved about his swordfish with curried lobster cream sauce. Conch fritters and mini muffins for starters. Yum! Recommend. I know this place has many dollar signs in the price ranking, but honestly doesn't seem more expensive than other (inferior) restaurants in Key West. Fantastic view of the sea! Louie's was recommended to us by a friend who lives in Miami. I'm glad he did because it wasn't a restaurant that came up much in my searches. It sits on the south side of the island directly overlooking the water. We first sat inside but realized they didn't have A/C, so we moved to the deck. Even though it was 90 outside, the deck was comfortable with shade and fans. Our dinner was terrific. Service was great, good wine choices. Everything was spot on. Make sure to give Louie's a try on your Key West visit. read more

It's a great place all food was served quick and delicious. We had the key lime and agave popcorn and the pinks served with mango sauce was perfect. The fried artichokes served hot and garlic aioli was a perfect accompaniment. The truffle fries the best but we thought cheese fondue was not needed. What has happened to the charming staff at Louie's???? We have always made it the spot for our anniversary dinner when we visit Key West. Not any more. Our concierge who made the reservations assured us we would get an outside table. When we arrived we were shown an inside table (where it was quite warm) and they acted as if they knew nothing about our request. And they did not offer any other options even though our concierge has explained that this was our 40th anniversary. They did not even offer an apology. In fact they were quite rude. Thank you so much Louie's for showing us such a lovely anniversary. ... because we left! And had a charming dinner elsewhere ...outside watching the sunset. Farewell Louie's! We shall probably not visit anymore. Key West has many other restaurants who care about their customers. The gentlemen who so nicely ran the restaurant on all our previous visits would be ashamed! read more

The location was beautiful and our server Tom was great. The food was average for the price. The fish selection was minimal for Key West! We are from the phiadelphia area and have no problem paying for a great meal! We were disappointed! Please don't let your fabulous location define this restaurant. If you need to raise the price to improve your food then please so so. I understand a business needs to be profitable for long term sustainment. I hope this post is read by the owners/management and reflected upon. If I owned a business, I would want all the feedback possible to improve my business. read more

Nice dinner with excellent service and good wind list. The pomegranate quail appetizer was excellent and so ws thier signature lobster appetizer. Our entrees were the signature shrimp and grits and a yellowtail special; both were outstanding. The gingerbread pudding dessert was too heavy to finish and the eggnog sauce lacked flavor. I tend to rate restaurants more heavily on service if the food is decent. I've noticed that great service is rarely an accident. My key for getting top notch service is usually by tipping well and repeating visits. This tactic doesn't work so well when traveling. However, I found this place after a local recommended it while visiting Key West for a week. My first visit was so good, I went back again....this time with a date I was seeking to impress. Nothing like being treated like you're the restaurant's best customer upon your second visit. I'm sure they make many others feel the same.....all my favorite spots locally do the same. My date never mentioned it but I can tell an impression was made... Thanks Louie! The food is great..but that's been said here already in other reviews. It's the way I order my martini's...I am very specific and not once did I ever get an eye -roll or any attitude...just an eagerness to please and treat my silly instructions as if they were the most normal thing any of the staff had ever heard. Great place for dinner and drinks. Don't go there if you are looking for a bargain....just a wonderful night. read more

Went to Louie's again the other day. This place is consistantly the best in Key West, a far cry from the tourist traps on Duval. The location and service is always great, the food never disappoints. We come here every time we go to Key West, this time we had the "copper pot" lobster appetizer was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. An amazing place. My GF birthday here. We started by going to Louies upstairs for a couple of apps and a drink. She had pink island shrimp (6 on the plate) with a spicy mango sauce and also a regular cocktail sauce. We shared zucchini fritters (4) and grilled rapeseed. A glass of cabernet for me and a tequila for the GF. After the apps, we went downstairs to Louie's Backyard. Again, food and service were excellent. I had the double rack of lamb and GF had grilled yellowtail snapper. This place is fabulous. The manager and the owner came by to ensure that we were happy..
