What a throwback! Haven't been to Louie's in at least ten years, and not much has changed thankfully! Still the same great menu and breakfast food that I remember from my late nights as an LSU student, although these days I tend to make more health conscious menu choices! I had the veggie omelet which was stuffed with twelve different veggies! It was delicious, although I made the mistake of not adding cheese, which I'd recommend. So good and it was huge! Came with a side of bread. The yellow corn grits were also delicious and hearty. My daughter had the animal cakes which were adorable! Not very much as far as quantity and she ended up ordering two extra pancakes, but they made them into really fun shapes. This place is great! A large group of friends and I (group of 14) rolled through on a Monday morning and the service was amazing. The place is cute, they served me tea in a very cool cup and refilled all of our glasses constantly. The portions are big and the good is great. Really big fan of their biscuits! This diner was recommended to us by our Airbnb host and it was great! It was really close to LSU and even though it was packed both times we went, our food came out really fast! The hash browns were my favorite part of the meal, but overall everything was great! I gave it four stars because it's not the cleanest place and our hostess slopped off our messy table with a soaking rag and just left our table gross and wet. Our waitress was annoyed by that and happily cleaned it up for us. Also, you can sit at the cook line (not sure if that's the correct term) and watch the cooks prepare everything! One of the cooks was so friendly and sweet and was thanking us for waiting for our food (they had sent our original order to a different table, but even with that mishap the food came out quick). Really enjoyed this place! Overall awesome diner food and friendly staff. First time here. Had the Mitchell omelet and it was excellent. Biscuits are large and fluffy. Coffee was very good too. Fair warning, this is a diner. Employees provide a floor show. This morning, they were having seating issues and one of the cooks started yelling at the hostess. Some regulars next to me said that was normal and part of the reason they keep coming back. Went here with some friends for some late night food on a Sunday. For a place that has won so many "Best place for late night food" awards, our visit did not live up to anywhere near those expectations. It was fairly busy when we arrived a little before midnight, but nothing crazy. We seated ourselves, and after our waitress told us she'd be right with us, we waited another 20 minutes to even put our drink orders in. We never even got our drinks until AFTER our food came out. Maybe the worst po-boy I've ever had. Small, greasy, sloppy mess. Overpriced, and to make it even worse, it was $10 on the menu, but I was charged $14. I tend to lean more towards the breakfast menu here, as the cheese grits and omelettes are absolutely to die for. But its one of the few place around the LSU campus which is open 24 hours. Hashbrowns with jalapenos were good. This is going to be a long review. My roommate and I decided to visit Louie's today at around 1:30. We were sat down and the waitress came to take our drinks. We ordered after a few minutes. I tried to order a biscuit with gravy but was told they stopped serving biscuits at 11 am. I ordered french toast with bananas and a side of 2 pieces of bacon, my roommate ordered a cheese omelette (that comes with toast) and she ordered an extra side of fries. Before we received our food, the waitress took my drink to give a refill. Someone else brought our food out and my drink was still missing after 5 minutes. I looked back and seen our waitress filling up the table across from us' drinks-- without bringing my drink back. She finally brought it back a couple minutes later. We noticed that I didn't get the bananas I asked for with my french toast and she didn't get the toast that came with her meal. Our waitress came back only a couple times during our time we spent here and one of those times I ordered some oatmeal. The oatmeal was good I must say. We noticed while looking around that all the other waitresses were checking on their tables very frequently, what our waitress was failing to do. Also, while looking around, I noticed other tables with biscuits-- I thought they stopped serving them at 11 am? Fast forward, we both decided to not leave a tip. The service was not tip worthy. I'm guessing she expected the two college kids not to tip as well as the family she was waiting on hand and foot so she didn't pay attention to us. We left after not leaving a tip. When we got outside I realized I forgot my car keys on the table so I went back in to get them. I seen our waitress cleaning the table and complaining to a coworker about how we didn't leave a tip. She seen me and caught an attitude and threw my car keys at me and said "you forgot your keys." I said thank you and walked out. DO NOT THROW MY OWN CAR KEYS AT ME!! That is MY property. The whole point of this is WORK FOR YOUR TIPS! Not all college kids tip less than 15%, I ALWAYS TIP 20% if the service is good! I have a job to be able to go to eat and tip and I won't go out to eat if I don't have money to tip as well. This waitress was so concerned about the tip she was getting from a family of four that she missed out on the $6 tip from us and then decided to make it even worse and catch an attitude with me when she realized we didn't tip! WHAT A HORRIBLE WORKER! My roommate is a server and she was complaining about how our waitress was focusing on the other tables more and how it's not okay to be rude after you didn't work for the tip you thought you were automatically obligated to get. My roommates cheese omelette was not $8 worthy and like I said, she didn't receive the toast that was supposed to come with the meal. A cheese omelette, nothing more, should not be $8. It shouldn't be over $5! Overall, I honestly probably won't be back even though I love this place and their food. The go-to spot when it's late at night and I'm hungry. They have several options on their menu as well that makes it even better but the service I received today ruined it. read more

My favorite things to order are the Mitchell omelet and chocolate chip pancakes, but there are many other delicious offerings. Yesssss, I know Louie's is legendary! So, of course I had to drop by here when I was in between appointments. This was my first time ever at Louie's; never even been to the old location either. The reviews were just not screaming "get over here, fast". Truthfully, nothing excited me about this place. Perhaps it was because I did not dine there during their peak times (breakfast or late night/early morning) that I did not have a the stellar experience, which some have had. I was barely blown away. In fact, I walked in to a pretty bored-looking bunch of employees that did not seem entirely too thrilled to be there. We were in somewhat of a rush and waited a fairly long time for a bowl of chili, when there was a pretty empty diner. When my husband felt like we weren't going to have enough time to finish it, we asked them to take it to-go and the cook did not seem thrilled about having to do that. We then quickly changed our minds and opted to eat-in quickly. The chili (that had no beans as stated on menu), I have to say was quite tasty and the melted cheese on it was an added bonus. I had seen the pancakes and they definitely looked like they were worth trying, so when I need to have carb overload, I'll be back for those! The "new Louie's" is just as great as the "old Louie's"!!! I love the food and the atmosphere (though it can sometimes be rather loud), and I love Love LOVE that there is now significantly more parking! I just wish the restaurant were bigger so waits would be shorter, but that won't keep me from coming back! No sir! As an added bonus, the new location is cleaner than the old and not so run down (as one would hope a new location would be)! The burgers are still just as tasty, the chicken fried steak is still delicious, the white gravy is still LOADED with sausage, the hashbrowns are still worth every calorie, and the prices are still very reasonable! After a loud and fun night at the Varsity listening to a Deftone tribute band, we needed food to sober up the designated driver. Lol. Louie's Cafe it is!! Back in my college days, this was (and still IS) a LSU college staple. They moved to a newer building a couple hundred feet away, but the ambience is still the same. Brightly lit, loud laughs and talking, and an array/diversity of people...with one thing in common: hungry for food. They are open 24/7; the portions are huge and the prices are just right. On this particular night, we shared an order of the "Mitchell" omelet: chopped up sausage patties, chunky potatoes-style hash browns, grilled mushrooms and melted shredded Colby cheese...all wrapped perfectly in this blanket of eggs. Literally, it looked like a Christmas package. What totally pulled it over the top was a side cup of their sausage gravy. Oh. My. Gosh! Did I mention it was perfect for 2 people to share? Perfectly greasy and might I add, a touch more refined since the upgrade from the roach motel the restaurant once occupied, to the transformed Wendy's that it currently resides. Perfectly wedged off of Chimes street and open 24/7. I truly feel for the staff at 2am on any given Sunday morning during spring and fall semesters. Now that I've dissected the location, the food is Basic, but done right. Your coffee cup will stay full and your eggs will come out over easy, if you so choose. You can't really ask for much more in a breakfast diner, in my opinion. But Louie's offers omelettes, pancakes and lunch items as well. The service has always been mostly good, occasionally will get a tired or ill-tempered server, but the food is always incredible, as far as greasy diner food goes. Along with Poor Boy Lloyd's, Louie's Cafe has the best breakfast in town and during my recent two visits the best grill man I have seen in years. The eggs are perfectly as ordered. The cheese grits are rich and the portion is generous. The biscuits are Southern, perfectly baked, and delicious. The new place is colorful, extremely clean, sunny, and pleasant. The service is top notch. I like several breakfast places in Baton Rouge but this one along with Fred Taylor's Poor Boy Lloyd's is extraordinary. Parking is good and the diner is close to the bus line. I wish I lived closer. The hash browns are a universe of their own. They taste like friend potatoes at Galaroire's Bistro.
