I've only been here for dine-in twice, the first time was about 6 years ago, so not much memory of that. This time I went after a rather stressful morning. We were served pretty quickly, despite the fact that the place was packed. We got the Chops & Eggs, and it was really good!! Both the pork chops and eggs. We also got a side of bacon and grits. Bacon was great, grits were pretty decent considering I normally don't like grits at most restaurants, but a little salt and pepper was enough to get these to a decent standard, consistency was good. Their cajun hash browns cannot be beat. Our waiter was super helpful and attentive, he did seem to be a little pushy, but I think he was just very eager to please us! Born and raised in Baton Rouge (GEAUX TIGERS!) ,but this was my first time trying this place!! It's been in operation since 1941. Loved the 1950's style vibe. We went during the week for a late breakfast. The dining room was full, but no wait! I do hear this place gets very crowded on the weekend. We sat ourselves and the waiter arrived a few minutes later. The menu is full of choices.... I really like that everything has plenty of choices. After much thought I decided on a Spanish Omelette which comes with your choice of hash browns, grits, or a bread option. I went with the everything bagel. Have so many memories here from my freshman year and it was my first time back since round about then so I had a good nostalgia trip. The biggest difference is that they're not open 24 hours anymore, they're open from about 6am to 2pm. A true breakfast diner. I've been wanting to try this place for years. I finally went on a Sunday after church around 10:45 am. There were people sitting outside waiting. I didn't let this deter me and I'm so glad I didn't. There is no indoor waiting. I checked in and was told a 30 minute wait for a party of 3. We were able to sit in chairs along the side of the building. Our wait was closer to 15-20 minutes. They don't take your phone number so don't wander too far so that you can hear your name called. We were seated on the outside patio in front of the building. The weather was nice and the tables have large umbrellas for shade. Our waitress was a friendly young lady. Our food was good and the cost was very reasonable. The only thing we didn't care for was the yellow grits. Our eggs, regular pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, sausage, hash potatoes, and biscuit were all good. A great, old style diner for a good, hearty breakfast. Big, soft, fluffy biscuits, wide variety of omelettes, pancakes, waffles (with lots of fruit, chocolate chip, and nutella additions), grits, hashbrowns, and fresh fruit. Every thing you want for breakfast. Hashbrowns are big, chunky potato cubes, cooled nice and tender (a but more crunchy crust would be good), seasoned with a nice bit of Cajun seasoning, and (if you want) topped with cheese, jalapeños, bacon - lots of choices. Steak and eggs, chicken fried steak, pork chops- seriously everything you could want. Omelettes are big and stuffed full of goodies. I had a veggie omelette with more peppers, onions, zuchinni, tomatoes (and) than egg. Service was prompt and friendly (with never an empty coffee cup - even though the cup was a little small). Louie's Cafe is an American breakfast place that has a lot of options in terms of both breakfast food and lunch items. The service here is pretty good. We had to wait for a seat one of the times that I have been here. The other time was quicker in terms of seating and service. The service the most recent time was slow where I had to wait almost an hour for my food. The service was definitely slow, and I had to take away one star for this reason. The food here is decent. You just had to get the right food. Everything tastes how it should taste without much flair to it. However, the taste of the food is pretty well seasoned. The nachos I got were deconstructed and allowed me to have the ability of making my own nacho. The Louie's super club sandwich is quite good as it had a lot of meat and a lot of veggies in it. The taste of the meat and veggie combination was not too powerful and was pretty well balanced. The super hash browns were pretty good. We stopped in for breakfast while out running errands. It was pretty busy, but that's probably to be expected on a Saturday near LSU campus. We were seated quickly, though, and didn't have to wait excessively long for our food. My husband was very pleased with his chicken fried steak and eggs. He said the steak wasn't obviously hand-breaded, but if it was a frozen one, it was a good quality frozen one. My two-egg breakfast was sizable. The biscuit wasn't what I'd call light and fluffy, but it was a good biscuit. The hash browns were tasty, too, and it was a big enough meal that we could have split it. My older son, not in the mood for breakfast, got a burger and said it was good. My younger son went with Eggs Donald, scrambled instead of poached. I think he was expecting typical chicken and waffles, and as a result wasn't thrilled with what he got. I tried it, and it was good. The candied pecans are a nice touch. The coffee isn't as strong as I prefer, but there aren't many restaurants that make their coffee strong enough to suit me! Our server seemed a bit more interested in socializing with coworkers than in keeping up with her tables. We didn't get the napkins we'd asked for, and drinks weren't refilled. This is one of those places that are ranked in the top 10 on Trip Advisor for a reason - it's well known, you never know who will be in the room (celebrities, politicians, students, scoundrel... who knows). Food will kill you. So don't bother if you are on a veggie thing. If you are going paleo or keto, it will still kill you, but you must do what you must. Biscuits are high and both crunchy and fluffy. Grits have chew, are plentiful and feed you (and a pack of hungry wolves) well, particularly if you plop an egg next to it. Or top them with butter... or however you like your grits. My soon to be anointed Tiger ordered the cajun hash... a local version of a breakfast garbage plate. It will kill you. Greasy as all get out with all sorts of crispy pieces of goodness, potatoes, sausage, cheese. Piled high. And golden, brown and delicious. Seriously. We burped it up all through LSU campus tours AND business discussions with LSU faculty. I'm sure they figured out that the super local and crazy delightful Frenchie made our breakfast. The place has been around F O R E V E R. (a looong time...). People come here for a reason. Greasy, cure for hangover (or get one - they sell booze) 24 hours. I don't think Frenchie sleeps. How could you not love Louie's Cafe? It's been around forever! I usually go for breakfast but they are open 24/7. I had the grits and a biscuit this trip. I love their grits because they have a thicker texture than you find at other places. And their biscuits are huge and fluffy! I had a few bites of this French toast and wow! So good! Uh, only because I was hungry and craving breakfast at 11pm. Didnt really care for this place. Ordered the standard breakfast: 2 pancakes, scrambled egg whites, and hash browns. I love pancakes and was disappointed that these were very mushy as if it wasnt thoroughly cooked. And then add the syrup and it made it even gooey. Egg whites were fine. The "hash browns", which were actually country potatoes, were good. About the hash browns. So a few hash browns fell off the plate onto the tray and instead of just leaving it there, the waitress used her bare hands to put the potatoes back on the plate. Gross! I didn't make a big deal of it because it was a lot of potatoes so I just ate half of the potatoes. This is a 24 hour diner so you take a chance coming to such diners. read more

I heard they had a good burger, so that's what I got. It was good, nothing special though. Certainly above average. The fries were definitely average. The burger did come with grilled onions and yummy melted cheese, which added to the flavor quite a bit. They could offer a better bun, but at a place like this, that's not necessarily what you would expect. Overall, I like Louie's. It's a classic diner that has been around for a long time. Tevin and Tiger -- the BEST COOKS IN BATON ROUGE. Me and my babooski's third time experiencing this place, and yes it's an experience at this point. This is not a restaurant, it's an EXPERIENCE. Ambience is amazing, but the real credit goes to Tevin and Tiger, the ones placing every bit of love that fills every single platter. You can just TASTE their heart and soul and let me tell you, it feels so good. We got the loaded hash browns and our waiter Maddie was the sweetest thing ever, added to the experience with her constant checkups. This morning for breakfast we woke up and started our hunt. We were almost discouraged and we pulled onto the street to see a line of people waiting. Reluctantly, we waited. We are so happy that we did. The hash browns were amazing. The pancakes were so soft and fluffy. We had to try the biscuit. Sadly, I can't recommend Louie's. My husband, son and I went to Louie's for lunch on Monday. I love biscuits, so I had the Bombtrack Biscuit (which is a biscuit covered in shrimp and corn gravy). For the next 40 hours, I was not well. It was absolutely food poisoning. Stomach issues galore. It ruined move in for my son, as I was pretty unwell. My cousin came in town and we were looking for a place to grab a late breakfast. My friend and her daughter had been telling about Louie's. After going to a place that was closed, we went to Louie's. Upon arrival, the hostess greeted us very oddly...... I mean it was very strange. There was a couple ahead of us. After they were seated, the hostess asked me to stand in a different place than I was standing ( I was initially standing away from everyone) anywho.......from my newly appointed spot I could look over the bar and see that the 2 guys prepping and cooking weren't wearing gloves. We were seated very soon after and the vent was leaking water. I had to scoot the chair. The table had old food on it. The hostess asked a server to clean the table and she did. However, she just wiped the food from the table to the floor (inserts shrug) I smelled the table after she wiped it. Good thing I had my baby bag with Clorox wipes. I wiped the table to ensure it was clean. Our waitress was very nice and she appeared very well put together. As opposed to some of the other staff that were working. She took our order : we had the Louisiana omelet with potatoes and a number one with pancakes and sausage The omelet literally had wayyyyyy to many veggies. There were more veggies than there were eggs..... the potatoes were a little cold and no real flavor The pancakes were NOT good AT ALL! I have no plans on returning to this establishment! Went to Louie's to get a turkey and Swiss on rye with mayo. Not only did the idiots grill it, they burnt it. Who the FUCK grills a cold sandwich burns it AND then turns the burned parts inside and hopes you don't notice? It's good they are kicking up their consistently very low standards of the last time I visited which was several years ago. One would think they would've improved by now but one would be wrong. Don't eat here it's just not worth the aggravation. These people couldn't cook their way out of a paper bag, and if it wasn't for drunk people from LSU willing to eat anything in the middle of the night, they would be out of business along time ago. Read the "not recommended" reviews, they give a much better picture of what this place is really like, it sucks!! Look this isn't Ruth Chris, this is a local, humble, historic diner right off LSU's main drag and it caters to college students. Its a unpretentious spot selling greasy, feeling, tasty breakfast and lunch options. This place was ok. I am not a huge fan. I went after a night out at the bars. You would think that would mean the food would be great but honestly it was just very dry. I ordered a turkey club and the food just tasted as though it was left out. The service was slow, but it was also very packed so I completely understood but the best thing about this place was the coffee, which was not burnt surprisingly. I'm not a huge fan, honestly. The food has been average at best here and service was sweet but slow. Like molasses slowwwwww. On my last visit I had the seafood ettouffee omlette. An omlette stuffed with cheese, crawfish and shrimp ettouffee really appeals to this Cajun girl. But something was missing. Lack of spice? Maybe. It just wasn't...right. I got past that since their biscuits were soft and good and the bacon was crisp like I like it but all in all, I don't think this would be my first choice for breakfast in Baton Rouge again. The reincarnation of Louie's is a welcome sight for the BR faithful; it's bigger and bolder without losing much of its former self. The new location is just around the corner from State St, featuring a more spacious parking lot, a drive thru (?) and a menu with all of the original classics. More importantly, it's one of the only 24 hour spots in the entire city. The diner decor (checkered floor, 50s style bar swivel seats, etc.) is still very much alive to a point where I'm sure old timers revisiting might still believe they're in the original Louie's. The iconic counter setup is more minimal; but the tables / booths are rockin' hard. They actually have a waiting area now for take out customers and they're finally accepting credit cards. Cash only is now a thing of the past. On a food front, not much has changed. The menu is still dominated by breakfast and sandwiches / burgers and I am sense is consistent with the old location. My breakfast platter of an omelette ($11) and cheesy sausage hashbrowns ($7.50) feels admittedly pricey, but the food was as heart attack worthy as ever. These hashbrowns are more like home fries (a la east coast) and the omelette was shaped like a square. Atraditional execution aside, the food was good enough for a late night meal / early bird breakfast. There are more staff than ever, which I suppose is a good thing for the crowds they see night in and night out. I didn't have the best waitress during my time here, she as forgetful and rushed to take care of other covers. I didn't particularly appreciate the auto-gratuity (no no!), but I suppose this is their way of combating cheap-o students and credit card fees. I'm torn in preparing my review between a 3 & a 4... really wish I could go 3.5 stars but I can't and my reasoning for going 3 will probably sound petty but it's my reason and a pet peeve... Louie's is a Red Stick institution and worth a visit and I will come back if I'm around the North Gate of LSU and feeling like grabbing a meal... Today I ordered the breakfast Chicken Fried Steak, cause I love a good CFS, that comes with 3 eggs your way...I always order Sunny Side Up because I love a damn runny yolk and honestly I don't understand short-order cooks today and their inability to cook a proper Sunny Side Up egg....even though my eggs looked Sunny Side Up they were actually damn near Over Well as far as the yolks were concerned... If the Chicken Fried and the hash browns hadn't been so good I don't know where my thoughts on this review would be... When I think of breakfast in Baton Rouge, I think Louie's. Louie's is a 24 hour diner located just a few blocks off of LSU's campus. This location is the newest location and was once a Wendy's. For those that have been to the old location, I think it had more character, but this location has more parking which is a humongous plus. The food is somewhat typical diner fare which is to say that it's simple, but in my experience, very good. My first visit to the new location was somewhat underwhelming, but my last was really great. The breakfast food at Louie's is great, but I rarely order that. Many many years ago I came up to BR for the weekend to hang out with my best friend who was in vet school at LSU. He took me to Louie's and introduced me to The Big Cheesy Lou. This awesomely named burger is 8oz of meat, cheese and goodness. It has always been juicy, cooked to order and the perfect breakfast, late night or anytime meal. As a side for that grand burger I always get the pepper jack hash browns. Even though that isn't a typical side for a burger, trust me on this. The hash browns are of the home fry variety and the addition of pepper jack cheese and jalapenos elevate this meal to the next level. It is greasy diner awesomeness. For kids meals you have the option of something called an animal cake. This is where your kid gets to decide what type of animal they want their pancake to resemble. Mine went for a snake and they did a pretty good job. I'd like to challenge them to make a zebra or unicorn on my next trip. If you are in BR and want breakfast, a good burger or an incredibly filling fourth meal, get to Louie's ASAP. read more
