Don't let the negative reviews from some one who has only visited one time, scare you off. We have eaten at l's at least a dozen times trying breakfast lunch and dinner. Great food large portions very fair price. I've never had anything that ever resembled anything but homemade food, from the amazing bleu cheese dressing and hand formed grass-fed beef patties, to the hand breaded chicken Parmesan. The service has always been friendly. Just because the parking is full doesn't mean the inside is go on in, you won't be disappointed. Customer service is excellent and so is the food. I ordered a simple cheeseburger and fries but the hamburger was really fresh and very tasty and fries were fried fresh and tasty as well. The owner is very hospitable, really enjoyed my lunch here for the first time as I am new to this area.:) read more

This is my second time coming here and what a damn joke. I figured I'd give it a second chance due to everyone saying it's such a great place and they make the best food. Well no. They were out of everything, about half there menu due to opening a new location? What? Shouldn't you buy more things instead of trying to split up your invotory over 2 restrunts? Very poor business management. Not to mention after the absurdly long wait for my food it was crap. Pretty much the last thing I could order was a breakfast burrito. Lol. Wonderful local place to go! Today was my 3rd visit here. I took my 3&8 yr old for lunch. Upon walking in, I was worried about a wait as the place was full with the exception of two empty tables. Our waitress Trish brought menus and took our drink order within minutes. Our food was delivered promptly, even though a party of 6 had ordered and been served immediately prior to us. Trish was very friendly, prompt and accurate. I enjoyed a mimosa which was not over diluted with oj. The kids ate every bite on their plates, however, my grilled chicken sandwich was too much to handle. Took 1/2 home to enjoy later. Food was excellent, as well as service. The only reason for 4 stars was the wait for the check. It's a small local business with only 3 visible employees. They might consider adding one additional employee to host/buss. All in all, great meal and good time. I'll be going back. read more

THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CARDS. They do offer an atm that is owned by the restaurant that will happily charge you $2 for the privilege of receiving cash to pay for your meal. Used to go in on the weekends for brunch. Those ladies are amazing. Fun, spunky, and the food has never disappointed. Nice, small, and cozy. A simple little place that changes its picture frames on the wall often (supporting local artist) but never changes in service. read more

Three stars. Ate here three times during a two-week long business trip. Five-star experience the first time on Saturday afternoon. I was hungry; I had a blueberry pancake, French toast, bacon, and a side of spicy patty sausage. It was delightful. I returned two times to try different things and I was very disappointed. I had another blueberry pancake and it was burned. I've never seen such a blackened breakfast item actually served and it tasted like it was burned. The sausage was burned. The bacon was burned. I think they did it to me on purpose because it was late in the afternoon, but I was told that they serve breakfast all day and it was no problem. I could have had something better at Denny's. What a waste of my appetite. I'm lowering my review to two stars now, after reading this. read more

So I absolutely love this restaurant and I work at Bear River Casino where I meet tons of tourists who always ask about places close by to eat. L's is always my first recommendation and I give detailed directions because I feel it's one of, if not the best place to eat in Fortuna. BUT I certainly hope none of my customers that I send ever meet NIKKI! I had the unfortunate experience of meeting her last night. She's rude and lazy. If your restaurant does not want to serve outside tables then you should not have tables outside. I brought a friend with me to experience your restaurant, it was a beautiful day yesterday so we wanted to eat outside. There was also an event going on with music right outside so we wanted to enjoy it all. There were only two tables with two couples seated inside so I asked if I could have menus so we could eat outside. I was very rudely told "NO!" She said that it was GOING to get busy and it would be too hard for her to walk in and out. Well sweetheart your young and not over weight and the restaurant is tiny, so SERIOUSLY? So for the 40 minutes we sat outside at your table there were only 3 more tables seated, we would have had our food by then. I will never come back if she is working. If Ashley is working Ill come in, she is great, as well as your other staff I just dont know them by name. If Nikki is working I will turn around and leave, she is bad for your business and I hope none of the people Ive sent have run into her. I wont be recommending your restaurant when you employ people that bad. I hope you read this and take it seriously, I live in Fortuna and love your restaurant. I send A LOT of people your way but I can't if there is a possibility of service that bad. I'm in customer service its my job every day, Im also a very good tipper because I also work and depend on them. She just cost you a lot of checks and herself a great tip. read more

This is the best little gym of a restaurant in Fortuna. Maybe the best breakfast spot in Humboldt county. The portions are unusually large. Everything is homemade. The owner, Lauren, Is friendly with all the guests. The best part though is the excellent. Friendly service! read more

Oh wow. This place is getting 1 star because the waitress was really sweet and because I have to give it. So I had the soup and salad. Wasn't expecting anything special but I definitely wasn't expecting the massacre that was set in front of me. The bowl was completely covered in soup, like splattered. There was a soggy napkin under the bowl and the best part was the butter that was to go with my cornbread. The butter was covered in soup too! It was like the chef couldn't be bothered to get the soup in the bowl. I should have walked when my husband commented on watching our food being microwaved. I have never been served such a messy plate, and that's including the food my 5 year old has given me. I hate giving bad reviews and maybe this is what the people of Fortuna like and expect from a restaurant but I was pretty shocked at how bad the quality of the food and presentation was. Cool fact...the beef is from humanely treated and fed natural foods. The chicken strips the cut, batter and make themselves and it shows in the taste! Atmosphere is "cozy" kind of quiet looks like your in grandmas house a bit. Service is great, friendly servers and attentive. Average priced I would come back here for sure read more

I usually find L's Kitchen a great go-to place after a movie, but last night we waited an hour for dinner. Several people who came in after us were served before us and we didn't understand why. We were told they ran out of soup so had to heat up some different soup and that delayed my meal. The waitress should have told us that waiting for soup would delay our meal and recommend the salad, but she didn't and so we sat, and waited, and waited. When the meal finally came it was good, but I felt we should have been comped at least one meal. They did comp our coffee- big whoop. I asked about being comped a dessert maybe- was told they can't do,that because they have to do it too often and that eats into the profit margin! Perhaps that's a clue... My fiance and I have traveled around the United States, eaten at many restaurants and only like to dine at the best places, where the cooks care about the customer. This is by far the best place to get breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Their pancakes are the most incredible I have ever tasted, and I have tasted many! I love to cook myself, but these pancakes are so soft, tender, and flavorful-- along with their awesome homemade whipped cream and local coffee, the warm environment, keeps you out of your own kitchen. I've also had their burgers and ribs- Ribs are exceptionally better than Shamus T Bones and any other rib place in Inglewood and Los Angeles I've been to- and I have been to a lot of them!! Oh yeah, they also have to-die-for deserts. Try the brownie, it's so soft and gooey- reminds me of my mothers back in New England.
