My wife and I used to fm frequent L's Kitchen until one day she was told she couldn't eliminate something out of her order. We were told the cooks were upset about people changing orders (owner included), which seemed strange to me and L's would no longer substitute or eliminate items from orders. At that time we ate at L's three to four times a month. We have since taken our regular business somewhere else except for a few occasions. The service on weekdays is great and the food is good. Weekends and holidays the service tends to be slow due to the lack of staff. read more

Always a good choice for breakfast. I very much like their bacon and french toast. Service is solid and the little dining area feels local friendly. However, it's cash only with an option to use their atm on the inside with an over priced fee. That part has always bothered me. Wow! All I can say is wow! The food is phenomenal. My wife had the country mess and it is soooooooo delicious. Perfect balance on all of the ingredients including the garlic. I had the razzleberry pancake and besides being MASSIVE, it was delicious and actual razzleberry. Overall, this was a great breakfast in a hole in the wall place (our favorite) and well worth the price. Clearly a locals place as well! This was my 'hang out' from the time of Lauron's first restaurant "Campton Heights Cafe". and years later when she opened L's Kitchen.. until I moved to So. CA. in 2016. it is one of the main things I miss about Humboldt... including Lauron and Trish. Lauron's dinner restaurant Restaurant 36 in Carlotta is a great place too. Oh, by the way, you'd be wise to get a reservation there. They don't normally take reservations at L's Kitchen, so on a Sunday morning, get up bright and early OR be prepared to wait until there is an empty table. The food in both locations is all made from scratch with local beef and produce. I am not sure if they have a full bar at '36', but know they serve beer and wine, as does L's. read more

Always a five star. L's food is from scratch and you can taste the love. I love going to eat there breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's always a good experience. There is a wait most of the time. But it takes time to get real food. If you want fast food go to McDonald's. It's always worth the wait. The staff is always friendly, funny, and entertaining. They make you feel as if you are at home. Ignore the bad reviews. People get in a hurry and get impatient and they're really missing out on good food. And yes they're out of things from time to time but that's what happens when the food is that good. They have a really good thing going there. If your unhappy with them that's ok. Walked into this place thinking I was going to have a great home cooked meal. It's a small town and I suppose they only cater to locals. They only had a waitress and one cook. Told us that it would be a 35 minute wait. Stood around for a while to even be greeted. They could have told us this when we walked in, but made us wait. I came here because the resturant is under new ownership and we had to wait an hour and a half for our food and they were not packed. My fried cod and shrimp meal was very filling and very very tasty. The clam chowder tasted fresh and light and not too salty. OMG. If you enjoy big portions, biscuits & gravy, FANTASTIC coffee, good service and real people with real food, THIS IS YOUR PLACE. We were on our way out of Eureka, and are so glad we stopped here. They serve Humbolt Bay coffee, and it is delicious. Sugar jar on the table and they gave us fresh creamer. My husband had the "meaty mess," and I had bacon and eggs. He had the sour dough toast, which was so crisp, extra sour and tasty like it came right out of the bakery. I had the biscuit with a side of gravy. It was sausage gravy and it tasted like homemade - I prefer bacon gravy, but this was very good. The restroom was also clean and well equipped. When we were done - unable to eat it all, but done - our friendly waitress offered our coffee and iced tea refills to go. Fantastic. We will be marking this one as a favorite and definitely returning when up this way. read more

First of all the breakfast was way over priced for one egg, hashbrowns, two sausages and a biscuit, but I decided I would try it anyway. HORRIBLE. GREASY HASHBROWNS AND THE BISCUIT COULD BE USED TO ANCHOR A BOAT. The cook who took my order was great as a waitress, but the waitress that came in 30 minutes later didnt do a thing. She never came and asked if I needed anything, or if it was good or if I wanted more coffee. I left no tip. I had to go to the counter to get my bill to pay it. Horrible horrible food. Perhaps their sandwiches and dinners are good. If your looking for heavy greasy food while paying a third more than you should this is the place for you. Food is good. Be prepared to wait. 1 waitress for 10-12 tables. We finally got up to get our own menus. Drinks after about 15 mins. Meanwhile 3 groups came in and left. 1 of them sat for about 10 min's and not even acjnowledged. They walked out. So that the employees stay cool they leave the front door open on a cool foggy morning. Be sure to bring a sweatshirt and don't sit by the open door. Stopped in Fortuna for the night on our way to Oregon and drove down Main St and this caught our eye looking for a place to eat dinner. Since we had our dog we knew what we wanted...some place where we could park in the shade and keep eye on car. Sun had gone down, nice and cool parking, and we could eat and see car. This place has pasture raised beef, good service, and locals coming to eat. It's unpretentious but we like those places and this was perfect. We both had the pasture raised hamburger steak, risotto, and grilled vegetables. I had the tomatoe basil soup and hubby had garden salad, both hit the mark. We split an IPA (trying to be healthy), so we passed on dessert. We would stop here again anytime. Breakfast menu looked good and served all day...I almost had breakfast. read more

This is the spot for breakfast and lunch in Fortuna. I've pretty much made my way through the breakfast menu and everything is a hit. Pancakes are huge and have great flavor, the "Messes" are filling and packed with tons of toppings. Everything tastes super fresh, especially the biscuits. The restaurant has recently changed ownership and they are serving breakfast and lunch for now. I hear they are going to be serving dinner soon, and if their breakfasts are any indication, dinner is going to be delicious! My favorite is the Veggie Mess (a delicious mix of eggs, cheese, potatoes and and vegetables) and the oatmeal with almond slivers, brown sugar and raisins. They also have vegan and vegetarian options. I hear the vegetarian chile is amazing and I look forward to trying it next time I am in Fortuna. read more

My husband had his standard ham and eggs and was worried because it was a tad pricier than other places. He proclaimed it well worth the money - the ham slice in particular was huge and extremely flavorful. The waitress, Trish, is a hoot.
