The perfect early morning OR late night spot in Pasadena to satisfy your cravings is...Lucky Boy! There is no denying that they are known for their famous breakfast burrito...its true! I've only had the pleasure of knowing this place for a couple of years but it quickly became a staple in my brain whenever I think of burritos, burgers, or onion rings. They are open 6 AM to 12 AM every day and are a reliable place to count on for enormous portions and magic hangover-cure food at reasonable prices (especially in LA and Pasadena). I've been here a handful of times, all at different times in the day and the quality is great. It's always served hot and ready to eat. You never have to ask for extra sauce or napkins because the staff here just...understand you completely! They are so generous with portions and are so thoughtful! I mean...the breakfast burrito is the size of my forearm! Other than their famous burrito or hamburger, I want to put it out there that they should update their sign to having the BEST onion rings, too. I've had my fair share of onion rings in my lifetime but Lucky Boy's onion rings just top all of the onion rings I've ever had. Came here after a quick run around the Rose Bowl. They breakfast burritos are pretty good and they are hefty. I got their breakfast burrito with chorizo and avocado and it lasted me 2 meals. Service is quick and friendly and they have a free parking lot. Would definitely come back. read more

TL;DR: Good, but inconsistent. Yearning for more? 1/2 Came here several years ago and thought it was pretty average. Sister surprised me with a breakfast burrito from here years later and it was a completely different experience. It was packed with crispy, hot bacon and every bite was enjoyable. Problem was that she brought me another a week later and this one didn't have the bacon quite as crispy. Some parts were a bit under-cooked. Overall, this spot has delivered a solid breakfast burrito 33% of the time. Rookie numbers lol. I try to avoid places that serve food inconsistently. They have a lot of other options, but they seem to be popular for their breakfast burritos. I'd stick with that here, if you're feeling lucky of course hehe. Expenses: 0/1 Not sure how much the burritos are anymore, but regardless of whether they cost $8 or $14, the inconsistency issue makes is so that it's not worth it for me personally. Lucky Boy is a simple, old-fashioned burger and assorted Mexican fast food restaurant. It's very cheap, and the burgers are really good. The bun is large and the patty fits nicely. Since it's 1/4 lb, the patty is on the thin side. I get my cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato. There's a ton of lettuce and the tomato slices are thick, so you can feel good about eating them. They're not what I would call "gourmet" burgers, but it's best compared to similarly priced burgers (about $7) and on that basis I give it 5 stars. Lucky Boy has probably the best bang-for-your-buck breakfast burrito you will find in the SGV, but do note that the size and taste may vary depending on the day/who is making the burritos. The first time I went in the evening, the burrito we got was huge and the size of a small baby, but it was underwhelming in flavor and kind of soggy. My boyfriend and I were not able to finish it in one sitting because that's how huge it was. This second time we went on a Sunday morning, we got the bacon breakfast burrito and it was crispy/flavorful but smaller than our first visit (like a standard burrito size). My fiance and I were able to split the burrito and finish our respective halves easily this time without feeling disgustingly full afterwards, so the size truly does vary. It tastes good with their ranch dressing, so I do recommend splurging 50 cents for the ranch to pair with it or you can try their original salsas. Do note that if you pay for ranch though, they will only give you 1 container of salsa (normally they give you 3 containers of salsa, so you're just paying to replace some of the salsa with ranch). It's ok though because I prefer the ranch over the salsa anyways. read more

This place was right on the way, called in the order, & it was ready when we got there. Can't say much about the ambience, considering it was 6am, dark outside, & pretty empty. But I will say, they were very friendly & kind, even at the crack of dawn. He threw in an extra salsa for us, which I think might normally cost extra? Pretty nice. Top tier breakfast burrito. The portions are still large but why bother if you throw most of it away Onion rings were raw inside. Zucchini was so greasy it tasted like old cooking oil and they all stuck together. Nasty. Service is always good, and as far as ambiance, it is was it, a simple walk-up venue with a great menu, indoor and outdoor tables, and great food. The hard-working staff is plentiful and helpful. I had their famous & sensational breakfast burrito on the first day, and it exceeded my expectations. It is huge and tasty, and the bacon is incredible. I love the salsa, too! I came here with a local, hearing that there was huge hype around it, and I couldn't really get the hype unfortunately :( I really love burritos, but it was okay at best. There's great portioning, but the flavor was lacking a bit and it tasted a bit dry, so it's personally not my kind of burrito (for the breakfast burrito). Customer service was fine for the most part, but when my we asked a question regarding the meat, we were shocked that the reply was almost somewhat rude-toned. Came here to check out the well known breakfast burrito. The service is very quick and food comes out like within a few minutes. They make all the ingredients all morning so the burrito is done within minutes. The breakfast burrito was solid, but not the best I've had. My favorite is still back in my hometown chino hills called bravo burgers. The egg was okay. Could have been less dry. A lil overcooked. The bacon could be crispier and it's cut it really small. I usually prefer it long strips. Could have more cheese as well. Also I'm not a huge fan of the salsa. It was okay. Not enough flavor and not spicy. You can tell some employees here have worked here a very long time. *** Breakfast Burrito (bacon - $10.88): It also came with a red sauce and there was something comforting about it - not too spicy with right amount of flavors. 06/26/2023 Well here I am again just went to Turner's to pick up something I had to wait 10 days for. This time I got the pastrami sandwich like I said last time. Pretty big with thick slices of pastrami more than a mouthful a lot more than what you get at The Hat. Compared to The Hat the roll is a bit hard not as soft. I hate places that raise prices and also cut back on portions the pastrami is $11.99 at The Hat and the sandwich has shrunken. I love the yellow peppers they're not as spicy hot as the ones at Tommy's. Overall I've enjoyed my 3rd visit here at Lucky Boy. My brother got the Famous Breakfast Burrito with sausage and bacon he said he was only going to eat half because it's close to dinner. I told him just eat it all and order another one for tomorrow. read more

I came back again last summer and my high rating reflects what a nostalgic business is receiving based on my criteria for a nostalgic business. Lots of people, the wait was a bit, but worth it. Took a trip to the Norton Simon Museum and looked for restaurants nearby and this popped up with a ton of good reviews and I can totally see why. There is plenty of parking in their lot and on the streets nearby. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is huge and everything sounded good it was honestly hard to choose. I know they stay open late so the menu reflects that with lots of after bar options. They seem to favor a lot of Mexican dishes, but seemingly have something for everyone. We ordered the grilled chicken club and the carne asada burrito. I want to try their breakfast burrito and one of their fries next time. The grilled chicken club was HUGE and came on sourdough bread that was toasted. Inside was a large juicy piece of chicken with lettuce, tomato and tons and I mean tons of bacon. This really hit the spot for me. We also got the carne asada burrito which was also HUGE and it was stuffed to the brim with asada. I've actually never had a carne asada burrito that seemed to use thin slices of steak inside and it definitely changed the experience. Their salsas were also a great complement to the burrito. I looooove that they have those little spicy yellow chilis by the condiments bar as well. Perfectly spicy and vinegary to cut through the heavy food.
