I'm liking this store more and more every time I visit. For years, I only stopped by when I needed a few things, like a missing item from a recipe. Lucky's is walking distance to my house, so it was convenient during times like these. Lately, I'm finding myself buying more and more, and I don't think I'm the only one. Last night, the parking lot had far more than the typical 10 cars. The bright, clean store and excellent customer service are probably the driving factors. I used to shy away from their meats but now find they have the perfect boneless short ribs for my quick, easy and fantastic recipe. They're doing things more right all the time. Keep it up, Lucky's! I only come here when everything else is closed and I really need something to satisfy a late night junk food craving. Or if I need to rent a movie from their Redbox kiosk. Other than that I'll just head to Trader Joe's and the produce market down the street during normal business hours. read more

Looks like Albertsons is definitely on the decline. At one point they had merged all of the Lucky's into the business but not they're mostly closing. This is one of the few branches still open and for me it's purely a convenience for drinks and snacks after running at Rancho San Antonio. Unless they keep up with the grocery arms race this one might be kaput too. read more

My first time going to this store (given I have the option to go to Trader Joe's, Safeway and Whole Foods), I was pleasantly surprised to walk in and have someone greet me with samples (which was good and I ended up buying the product). Selection of items not the best, I still had a few things left on my list that I will purchase at another grocery store, but service around the store was good. Then came checkout time I was unpleasantly helped by Yvonne (just mean rude lady), she was like a cartoon version of a mean lunch lady at a school, I had a coupon for an item and she said it wouldn't work, i tried to explain to her the meat department staff recommended to use that product for the coupon, she rudely interrupted me and would not let me finish talking (keep in mind my son was with me and witnessed this rude woman). I tried to explain to her again what the man at the meat department told me and again she cut me off, I let it go but was furious in the rude attitude this woman gave me. I don't understand how someone works in customer service and treats their customers in such a rude manner, the quality of the products was good but I definitely will not return to be treated that way by a register employee. read more

Kosher and Israeli food heaven. Just did pretty much all of my passover shopping here, and was really impressed with the selection, helpfulness of the staff and the price. Even managed to find chocolate marshmallow Krembos, Bazooka Joe bubble gum, a really decent selection of Kosher for P wine, brownie mixes, ready made sauces for meat, parve Ice cream... the whole nine yards. Kosher meat selection could be marginally better (has frozen Turkey, chicken breasts, brisket and rather expensive lamb chops and sausages) but it's a supermarket, not a butcher shop, so it's to be expected. Bought a rotisserie chicken for only $7. Turned out to be infused with jalapeno peppers! Even the stray cats wouldn't eat it. Found a tiny sticker on the side that said "Chile" which was not apparent in the store. Had it been labeled visibly, I would have selected a regular chicken. So, it was a WASTE of $7. Buyer beware! Also, the deli potato salad was day-old and $6.50 for Miracle Whip, yikes! read more

Went for a quick beer run. Couple of cashiers chatting about something happening in the front staff room. I could tell they were annoyed that I "interrupted" them. The guy curtly checked me out and then basically hurled the receipt at me and ran into the front room. read more

Five stars for their hours! Yes, seriously, try getting milk for cereal before 8am, when you need to be somewhere. Or need beer after 10pm in this area. Not a lot of choices besides gas stations with limited selection. I LOVE their hours 6am - Midnight. Maybe not quite on Sunday, but close. I also recommend going for the retro factor. Luckys is just as I remembered Grocery stores in the 80's and 90's before the low lighting, higher ceiling, and wood floor paneling up grades made in mid 2000s. It isn't glamourous, it's the same look as in the Jane's Addiction video. :) But it helps explain the past. read more

After finding out that water was on sale, I decided to drop by to purchase some for my company. I walked in, found what I needed, paid and left. Since I came during business hours, this place was pretty much dead. The cashier was very friendly and even asked if I needed help unloading the water into my car. Surprisingly, I saw several comments that matches my experience. Yes, I completely agree that only few friendly store clerks work there. At least we can say they are all uniform, it looks like that's the requirement not to smile, not to greet you, just check out & go. Another point, I bought canned food that was 2 years expired. Solid, dependable, grocery store with some good savings. This is a very convenient store for me and I stop by very frequently. For a while, after Lucky formed separate from Albertsons, and they closed off alot of the Lucky stores in the area, the place seemed to struggle but this store in particular has always done well and is improving a great deal. The store has just about what you'd expect in a major grocery chain; their groceries are good, the frozen stuff is good, and their meats are generally OK. They recently seemed to have some bulk, organic stuff near one of the entrances and you can get some bulk stuff very easily. Produce is OK, although I got some of the more unusual apple varieties recently, priced very low and they were outstanding. Lately, I've noticed that Lucky offers some very low priced items (like 24 oz bread for less than $ 2) which go a long way for those of us on limited incomes. They hold onto these low priced items for well over the 1 week specials, so you can stock up on these items for nearly a month. I appreciate this. In addition, they offer a special price on some item each day of the week with a minimum $5 purchase. These are very good, like eggs, hamburger, or banannas. Again, if you can plan ahead, the very good price helps alot of us on tight budgets. If anyone from store management reads this, they should be commended for the idea and know that shoppers appreciate it. The store always seems bright, clean, and airy. They have a very good self-service checkout for those of us who don't mind using self serve. There's also a Redbox unit inside the store. Lots of parking and there's a Goodwill type recycling service in the parking lot. Lucky Supermarket, and this store in particular, is now one of my favorites and I shop here regularly. read more

Our family has been shopping in this store for what must be decades, through all the different names (Ralphs, Lucky, then Albertsons now Lucky again) and we have literally seen it all with this place. This is a great store with a irreplaceable Los Altos location. The store has great lighting and carries many specialty items you will not find at Safeway. The employees tend to be very friendly and helpful. This store is good sized thanks to a huge add-on in the late 1990's but the store decor definetly needs an update. Though the store is super clean, well managed in terms of organization and has a number of great organic items all throughout the store. If you like Kosher items, Lucky has a section for those as well. The bakery items at the Lucky and Savemart branded stores have been steadily improving, with excellent cakes and muffins, and this location is no exception. One area the corporate brass need to think about working on is the offerings in the meat and deli areas....too bad no more Boar's Head products like when the store was an Albertsons. Otherwise, and for typical grocery and household needs, this is your hidden gem in Los Altos. read more

I just stopped by to get some cash. i made a small purchase and needed assistance at the self help check out. The guy who came over( after another employee called and told him he was supposed to man that station) was very rude. The employees in this store are not at all friendly or helpful. I live in the neighborhood across Foothill exp. and this is the most convenient store for me but I hardly ever go here because the service is very poor! I don't see too many people whenever I do go so other people must feel the same way I do. I prefer Trader Joe's / Safeway and would rather drive a bit than shop here. read more

We use to shop at PW Market in Cupertino and because of their barren situation with their shelves being bare, we shopped at three different stores; Andronicos, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods. After months of doing this, it got tiring. Why can't we shop at one store, for the most part, to buy groceries for the week?! So, for laughs, we went to Lucky and found to our utter amazement, the store shelves were well stocked, the produce not wilted, the meat department with more than one package of meat, the aisles of paper towels, toilet tissue, shampoo, and plastic bags were all present and ready to be purchased. Amazing! We could actually shop here at this store without having to go to 2 other stores to fill in the blanks for the week. If anything, this store is much improved than its predecessor, Albertson's, so we'll be grocery shopping here with occasional stops into Traders Joe's and Whole Foods for their specialties, but thank goodness, only occasionally. read more

I've just started going to this Lucky's this year. Someone told me about Sunnyside Farms ice cream... knowing that I love lemons... and the ice cream was great, but then I found their coffee ice cream... and got addicted! It's become a staple in our house... especially Sea Salt Caramel Espresso!!! Yipes!!! and it's often on sale... I've been buying more and more items each time I go back to the store... Regular prices somewhat cheaper than Safeway. Sale prices often as good as Safeway but they appear to have less items on sale. They sell $2 Foxbrook wine which is similar to two buck chuck at Trader Joe's. I like the atmosphere at Safeway better. read more

store has a nice selection of fresh produce. the employees are friendly and go out of their way to help you. let me tell you brilliant corporate executives, the self checkout doesn't work. as a consumer I expect good service and by reducing the employees at the checkout- customers are forced to wait in long lines. if I have to work at the self checkout scanning and bagging my purchases I will go to another supermarket whose corporate vision is to provide the best customer experience possible. From frequenting this store since I moved up here.. the staff is so nice, personable and helpful. They don't make you feel crazy for buying just ice cream, cookies and milk, they'll write a name on a cake for you in a sec, and when you ask them where something is, they'll walk you over there. Most people think going to the grocery store isn't a service. Generally they are correct. The typical visit to the grocery store involves the same amount of customer service you could expect to get from your washing machine at the Laundromat. My regular trips to this Lucky's are a breath of fresh air compared to my old Safeway. Although not spectacular by any means, this store has consistently given me a good experience. The aisles are appropriately spaced (narrow aisles were a problem at the old place), the store is well lit and the employees are helpful and fun. Last time at the checkout counter the old-timer working noticed my t-shirt and was able to strike up a conversation about comic book art! Although there's nothing above and beyond here, this place provides an appropriate level of customer service and a pleasant shopping experience, even for a grocery store. I generally see the same few faces around here, and though not super outgoing they're laid back and friendly enough. It's never really over-the-top busy, but for when I need something that I can't get at Trader Joe's this location does the trick and doesn't ruin my day. read more

this review is just on the pharmacy, I have been very happy with the pharmacy. Linda in the pharmacy is very pleasant, they try hard to get my prescriptions filled as soon as possible unlike some other pharmacy's where you have to wait in a long line and get treated like a number. Newly remodelled shelves and flooring gives this store a neat and clean look. Associates are pretty friendly but not around when u need help. The seafood can be fresher and the associates there refuse to skin the salmon which is kind of alarming and disappointing as they charge extra for that service. Freebie weekend is kind of nice and u can get free products. read more

I thought I would try out the self-checkout machines while using some coupons. I had my doubts, and they were fulfilled. I checked the two required items in OK ($6). Then the manufacturer's coupon went through fine (-$1). But the store's coupon didn't scan, so I got help from the checkout machine supervisor. She had to key in the coupon manually (-$1). So, each item showed up on the screen correctly ($3 + $3 - $1 - $1), however, the total was $7, not the correct $4. If the math wasn't so easy, I might have been fooled and paid the erroneous amount. Next time, if you have a lot of items, you need to take a calculator with you to check the final amount! read more

Nice and friendly service, no parking mess. I come here when I can't find a parking spot at Trader Joe's down the street. Recently, I needed to order a cake and the lady who was working at the bakery was very nice and helpful. She really tried hard to help me find the exact cake design I was looking for, including digging through the drawers to make sure that they had all the parts needed for the decoration :-) Yay for great service! read more

Yes, the Kosher section is huge, but produce is expensive; bakery and deli aren't worth the space they take up; meat and fish mostly prepackaged brands, dairy OK. Our neighborhood is so "lucky" to have a store like Lucky. I use their deli and Mary is always wonderful about advising me what to order for different celebrations, meeting and parties. I don't need Kosher products but have friends that do, and they are impressed by the huge selection of Kosher foods. The pharmacy is very efficient and gives personal service. Why shop at other high price stores in the area when Lucky does as good a job, is more customer service oriented and does it for less cost to the customer. Plus the parking is amazing, they don't mind if people park against the fence when carpooling or biking in groups. read more

I live in the neighborhood, so I'd love for this to be my main grocery supermarket. However, there have now been three occasions on which I went there and they didn't have what I needed--normal items like butternut squash, carrot sticks for kids, etc. Also, their prices, especially. on organic items, are pretty high, especially compared to Trader Joe's, which is just down the street. Finally, the place just has a vaguely depressing feel to it. Can't quite put my finger on it, but I always feel better going to Safeway or Andronico's. read more

This review is for the deli department. I walked out of the deli dept. (and Lucky's) today without ordering a sandwich. There were two people working in the deli and I said hi to both when I walked up, one was sweeping right in front of the deli counter. I thought that once she was done sweeping she'd help me. So I waited. Instead of helping me she then got on a ladder and started to take down a wall sign. It was stuck to the wall, so she continued to work with her back to me for some time. I waited and waited and still wasn't acknowledged by anyone. I went to the restroom and came back and she was still taking down the sign! Not good customer service. The deli has provided decent service in the past, but I've decided that even if I have to pay more, I'll buy my sandwiches some where else. read more

The folks who work here are very friendly and helpful. When I ask where something is, someone will help me find and walk me to the aisle instead of just pointing into the air and mumbling the aisle number (like other stores). The manager is awesome. Multiple times now, he has given me something for free. Recently, they didn't have the Post Grape Nuts on sale in stock. He gave me their brand of grape nuts for free instead. He offered and said they would rather have the customer try their brand for free. He also gave me some ice cream for free because the carton was slightly squished. The lady in the Bakery is also great. So friendly and will help me figure out what I want on a cake. Just a great, friendly, neighborhood grocery store to have close by. I only wish the outside was a little more inviting and bright. But that must be the way the Lucky headquarters people like their architecture. read more

This review is a 1 based on the mere fact that the store does not care at all about their employees. Majority of the workers do not get 2 days off in a row, and they are all tired and its Lucky markets way of trying to get them to quit so they don't have to pay retirement later. So apparently my mom has been here multiple times and had bad customer service experience. I live in Alaska so this is based on my experience here and let me tell you, customer service in Alaska laves a lot to be desired, so if I have an issue with someone being rude, they are rude. The store itself is fine, its average, nothing special. When we went to check out, the clerk was pretty rude. We forgot our reusable bags in the car so we asked if we could just take the basket out to the car and bring it back. She was pretty rude when she said no, we are losing them so you can either buy a bag or get a cart. so I went and got a cart. When I came back I heard her telling my mom there was a survey at the bottom of her receipt to fill out about our experience. at this point she became magically friendly and very thankful for me getting the cart for our groceries as apparently that was her job to do.
