We had to ask for water and they forgot to bring our rice dishes with our entrees. Not sure if it was because they forgot or if they don't do it anymore , but they didn't give us any banchan. I went on a weekday and they had a special where if you spend over $100 you get a free item! I ordered the gabijjim, pork backbone stew, and seafood pancake. I heard good things about Lucky Soul Diner, so I decided to try them out before realizing that they changed ownership. The place is now Chinese owned, and didn't taste authentic at all (which they admit here on Yelp as well). I got the budaejigae (army stew) which is a simple food, so there's not much to say about the flavors. The seafood pancake was way too thick and didn't have much seafood in it, and the side dishes (banchan) tasted like they came from a Korean supermarket. The service was also really bad, as it was really hard to flag anyone down despite only 2 other tables dining in. I'm so glad this restaurant randomly popped up on my explore page one day so I could give a try. When you get there, keep in mind that the sign outside the restaurant says JeonJu rather than Lucky Soul Diner. Not sure why, but hopefully that helps! JeonJu is small, but a cozy and comforting restaurant. It looks simple inside but the food is so flavorful and complex. They also have a TV inside that was playing clips of Vietnamese food. We ordered the iron plate seafood pancake and seafood stone pot bibimbap and neither were disappoints. They both came out super hot, especially the bibimbap which was sizzling right up until the end of our meal. The server melted the cheese on top of it at our table so points for showmanship! Both dishes were so tasty and delicious, and the portions were pretty big! Between me and my fiance, we weren't able to finish just the two. The stone pot does get a little too hot though because the rice at the bottom of the stone pot gets hard and difficult to eat, but most of the rice stays soft. We decided to stop by for a late lunch before heading to the Great Mall. There are plenty of parking spots right outside of the restaurant. We were seated by unfriendly and unhelpful waitress upon entering the restaurant. The waitress point to the QR Code on the table. We had to scan the QR Code to place our order. The seafood consisted of small pieces of squid and a few small shrimp. No other type of seafood that I can see in there. The pork bone stew was a little bit on the spicy side. We ordered mild and it had lots of jalapeños on top. The stew was pretty hearty and the broth was on the salty side. There was basically no service besides the waitress bringing us the food and water. We needed extra napkins and we had to get them ourselves. The waitress was too busy playing with her phone. We got the bossam, sundubu, spicy rice cake, bibimbap, corn cheese and a complimentary steamed egg to share. The bibimbap was hearty & healthy at a discount of ~$15. The spicy rice cake and sundubu were also warm & flavorful dishes. Corn cheese was also quite yummy! However, the bossam meat while tasting okay, wasn't presented in the best way it was kind of just thrown in a pile -- perhaps I'm more used to LA Ktown's nicely plattered meat. There was also dirt on the lettuce leaves -- definitely didn't seem washed. The most unfortunate dish was the steamed egg -- it was burnt at the bottom of the dish to the point it smelled like melted plastic & burning cigarettes. It's in the same plaza as McDonald's and the Lion Market, after COVID, there's plenty of parking as it's at the corner of the plaza. The label is confusing as the outside is Jeonju but the front door window is Lucky Soul. It looks like it's run by some Chinese as the menu was QR code based on a website with Chinese alternative language. Anyhow, their menu is more pot based such as stone pot bibimbap, Korean hot pot, tofu soup, etc. They have a reward program but you have to load up quite some money to get the bonus. Service was quiet but good. Water was refilled, they helped us to pack the left over as we wanted to split them. We tried the chive and shrimp pancake as it's not a common choice as opposed to kimchi pancake or seafood pancake. It tasted good, could be a bit crispier but acceptable. The spicy sauce that came with it was not that spicy after soaked in by the pancake. The Army Stew was sumptuous. We ordered a small but I felt like we could just split that one dish and would still be filled. However, it is spicy for us! Way too spicy! The banchans are generous with 6 plates and they are not the usual ones we see in other Korean restaurants. I like the fish cake, the garlic brocolli, the wood ear with veggie, the celery salad, and a bean curd shred mix. We didn't get a refill however. One of the best features of dolsot bimbimbap is the crunchy layer of rice that forms at the bottom of the stone bowl. While on the search for the best bibimbap in the Bay Area, I found that Jeonju is one of the few places where I can find bibimbap served in the traditional stone bowl. I tried the seafood bibimbap and the more traditional bibimbap and wow, I have to say I found my new favorite spot when I'm in the mood for this delightful dish. The seafood bibimbap was a unique take with the bibimbap already incorporated in the bowl and a large serving of seafood mixed in topped with melted mozzarella cheese. I quite enjoyed the seafood and the regular bibimbap and will soon be back for more. I'm excited to try the other dishes offered at the restaurant as I'm sure they'll also be quite tasty. I asked if the server had the standard vinegar and mustard so that I could add more, he seemed confused and said they didn't have mustard, and brought out a dish of black vinegar instead of the usual white vinegar. I would say that something that could be worked on is the service, most of the time the servers were grouped behind the counter and it was hard to get their attention, the table next to us had to flag them down three different times to get water refills. Something to note is that their kimchi doesn't seem to be made in house and it taste reminiscent of the kimchi you would buy at the grocery store. For my main I ordered a seafood stone bibimbap. Obviously the showmanship for the dish was an incredible pull, but I was also craving seafood, which it had plenty of!! The taste didn't really taste like authentic Korean bibimbap, so that's something to keep in mind, but I thought that it still tasted very good as a dish of its own, almost like a fried rice. Just to be clear, when I say recent, it is within this year. It is before their recent 2 months closure. Within this year, before the place temp closure, I went there 2-3 times. During those times of visit, I am not sure if they have changed the chef or something. The kimchi soup was quite plain and the side dishes are not tasty anymore. I feel it lost the charm before it closed since last year I almost visited there once a month. Hopefully they will have some improvements after they re-open. I was a little hesitant to go as a solo diner but really wanted Korean food. I stopped by here and was glad I did. My meal came with loads of side dishes, new to me was the dried shrimp one. It was crispy and tasty. The tofu soup was loaded with shrimp, squid and squash. Loved that they added the egg. Ordered it not spicy and it was perfect. The staff was also super friendly. Definitely would come back again and try more dishes. There is a parking lot with ample parking. Lots of families dining here when I visited. read more
