Went to Jeonju yesterday with a couple of friends to grab dinner. We must've went on an off day, since about 30% of the menu was sold out! This wasn't too much of an issue, and we ended up ordering cheese corn, pork tofu soup, and the galbijjim. Though the wait staff was a one-man show, he was efficient, kind, and attentive. Kept us stocked with water and got us whatever we needed right away (ladle, bowl, etc). Banchan came out almost immediately after ordering. The food was really yummy. One of my friends and I are sensitive to spicy foods, so we were a bit intimidated when the food came out RED. However, the spice level was truly mild and just a little kick of heat. The galbi was extremely tender and everything was well seasoned. My only other issue is the prices are a bit high. You can get similar food for a couple bucks less at spots in Santa Clara. Overall, a great experience and I wouldn't hesitate to come back again! read more

I didn't realize this location has closed down. Prior to the restaurant closing, the husband and I went to Jeonju to satisfy our Korean food craving. We ordered the Iron Plate Seafood Pancake, Seafood Bibimbap, LA Style Grilled Beef Ribs, and Grilled Beef Brisket. Overall, food was decent but I felt like the ingredients did not taste especially fresh or of high quality compared to their other location in Milpitas. I ordered the bibimbap pork rice. When it was brought to me, the waitress told me they were out of the sauce so it was very bland. Also to know they were sold out of seafood, squid, and bulgogi bibimbap. Half of the menu items were not available. There were also only 2 Bachan dishes. Kimchi and broccoli. I've been to Jeonju a handful of times, and unfortunately the experience has gone downhill each visit. The first two times were great -- they served a wide variety of banchan and the seafood tofu soup was packed with fresh shrimp, clams, octopus, mussels, and squid. My daughter also loved the galbijjim. On our third visit, we arrived right at 5 PM and were told they would open shortly because the cook was on lunch. We waited until 5:20 and they still weren't serving, so we ended up leaving. Our most recent visit was the last straw. They only offered two types of banchan (not even kimchi), and they were out of all dishes that included meat or beef. It was surprising for a Korean restaurant to not have Korean BBQ or short ribs available. My seafood tofu soup barely had any seafood, and I had to point out to the waiter that there was no shrimp at all. He later returned with a cheap frozen seafood mix and said they use a seafood mix, which was disappointing considering the higher quality seafood they used to serve (including head-on shrimp). They also did not serve the usual purple rice this time -- instead we were given dry white rice that seemed reheated. There was only one server handling all the tables and cleaning, so service was slow. It's disappointing because the quality used to be much better. Based on our recent experiences, we will not be returning anytime soon. read more

My friend and I were looking for a new restaurant to try and we stumbled upon Jeonju. It had good reviews, the food looked appetizing and it was in an area that we frequented, so why not. Parking here can get chaotic - there is a huge 99 Ranch Market in the plaza and tons of retail/restaurants all around. Some spaces are very tight, so be careful when parking. There's also these chargers that don't seem to ever be in use and take up some space. No clue whether they work or not as I've never seen anyone using them. After finding some parking (took us a while to circle around), we walked over to Jeonju. Once inside, we were informed that it would take up to 30 minutes as there was only 1 chef working at the moment and 1 server. We weren't in a hurry, so we decided to sit down and wait. The wait wasn't actually that bad, but it did take a while for everything to come out. Ordering was done through a QR code at the table and the server brought us the side dishes once we sent in our order. Our food came out in about 20 minutes. The side dishes had more of a Chinese flavor profile than Korean, but wasn't bad. I especially liked the peanuts, but the kimchi was too vinegary for me. I ordered a dolsot bibimpap while my friend had a tofu soup. I thought my rice was too salty and she agreed about her soup. I liked how crispy the rice got, though. We also ordered a seafood pancake that seemed like it needed more time to cook fully. Overall - maybe they were having an off day since there was a lack of workers. Maybe the experience would have been better if Jeonju was fully staffed that day, but the flavors weren't quite what I would expect from a Korean restaurant. I was madly craving Bossam Pork and I really wanted to try this establishment out. Glad I did! Although it was $35.99 for the entree, it definitely was delicious! The pork was tender and flavor was good! It came with green leaf lettuce and a side of red pickled radish thing. I wished it came with a side of raw garlic like at Ten's Butcher. We also got 2 orders of beef tofu soupv($19.99 each). It came with a side of purple rice. Their purple rice was not that purple and seemed mixed with white rice. It came with 4 sides of banchan. Seoul Good Sister restaurant to the now defunct Lucky Soul Diner (fka Jeonju) that offers up traditional Korean comfort foods, alcohol, and a nice assortment of banchan. My current favorite meal/food is Galbi-jjim, so I tend to save it for special occasions like my birthday, and Jeonju's rendition was my choice for this year. The Good: *No-frills décor, but I liked it. Some of these places try too hard, and it's best to try and KISS. I did like the cooking shows on the TV, tho. That's always a good call imo. *Prices aren't too bad, and you get a lot of food for the price. The Korean-style Grilled Beef Rib (aka Galbi-jjim) is priced at $70, but it's easily enough food for four normal people--or me and my brother. *Speaking of the Galbi-jjim, it was fantastic. It had all the things in it that I crave: sweet, salty, umami, and a ton of fork-tender beef. If you've never had this dish before, I can only describe it as the best beef stew you'll ever have. End of story. *I've seen other Yelpers describe their Banchan selection as just OK, but I thought it was great. Every dish was a winner, including the random semi-raw broccoli. But I love broccoli, so sue me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ *Nice Korean alcohol selection to choose from. I highly recommend that Neoul Bom Slow Village Makgeolli Brewed Draft Rice Wine. The kimchi fried rice had good flavor but there was no protein except for the egg, so it was basically just rice and kimchi mixed together with a fried egg on top for $14. Unfortunately, it seems that we all made the mistake of choosing something close in proximity without checking reviews. I think the prevailing theme throughout the dishes was that the flavors for each dish were a bit unique and not quite what I was expecting (negative connotation). The beef bibimbap had a bit of a fishy flavor and was quite soggy. The cheesy rice cake deluxe had a sharp, atypical cheese flavor. My favorite thing was the seafood pancake - it was super crispy and hearty! Granted, it was a bit bland but the dipping sauce made up for it! I think in terms of taste, it isn't bad. I felt the army stew lacked the saltiness factor and had too much kimchi juice but the fixin's inside made up for it. I also liked that the galbijjim wasnt too fatty and definitely is worth getting. I thought this had the most flavor among the items we ordered! The environment here can either suite a quick meal or as a place to linger and hang out. The 6 banchans came out as soon as we ordered. My fav is the peanuts, bean sprouts and kimchi banchans. 1. Japjae: Good flavoring and not sweet. Saucey not dry like other japjaes I've eaten but it dried out later. The noodles were cooked just right, not too soft nor undercooked. 2. Galbi: grilled well with some burnt edges to give that smokey flavor. Marination is delish and neat very tender. However, a small platter for a high price. 3. Seafood pancake. Super crispy and filled with lota of seafood. Sauce is light savory, not sweet. There were only 2 staff with mostly the female staff waiting tables. She provided good service and checked on us often to refill banchans, give extra napkins and refilled water without us asking. I also notice them to clean up tables very quick and have it ready for customera coming in. Now that's good service, being attentive to your customers. My fav is the japchae, it's well seasoned with the noodles not sticking to each other, good texture. This happened to us twice before when ordering from doordash, but this time it was in person. We ordered two tofu soups, and added an extra rice each. 1 rice comes included with each soup, and so the extra then makes 2 rice per soup. So we should've received 4 rice but only got 2. We tried to call the restaurant to fix the issue without having to drive there. they never answer the phone. So now i have to drive over there to claim my 2 rice? why is this rice so special? because my husband loves purple rice. This is one of the few restaurants that serves it. My husband when picking up the order asked the employee, "The menu says one rice included. It comes with rice and I ordered extra rice in addition" and she nodded but didn't seem confident in english. So she probably didn't understand him well enough. This has happened before and I am hoping management will tell the employee working the doordash orders and take out orders to pay attention to when people order EXTRA rice for these dishes. read more

I don't usually leave negative reviews (check my history), but I feel like I need to give others a fair warning for a new place. This past Saturday (11/15) we were craving Korean, but pressed for time so we decided on picking up take out. Most places close mid day but we searched and found this new place was open. So we YOLO it and got the "Korean-Style Grilled Beef Rib" thinking it would be like Daeho in Milpitas but we were so wrong. When I got there it the customer service was to start. I paid the $70 plus tax and I picked up the bag and it kind of felt "light". When we got home the container was less than half filled. And no rice The sides were decent at best. Look at this sad picture! There was 4 pieces of meat and of the 4 only 1 was full size with a bone. The other 3 were like half pieces with no bone? Did they give us someone else's doggy bag?!? Keep in mind this was $70 plus tax and tip! Daeho would have been $88 plus tax but a full order (which would have been at least 3X this), 2 rice, and much more sides. She was a having a full blown conversation and just gestured for us to sit down. There was no other greeting or menu to be handed out. There is a QR code. Above the QR code are Polaroids of customers. They all seemed happy so maybe I should give this place a chance. Maybe it's just an off day with customer service and the food would be better, I was wrong. Almost half of their items are out of stock. Barely any sides, entree and drinks were available. We should have left and ate somewhere else but nope, stayed sitting down. We ordered the seafood pancake, bulgogi rice bowl, and grilled pork. The serving size wasn't bad for the items but they all lacked flavor. The seafood pancake wasn't crispy and had big chunks of seafood. The rice bowl had an overcooked egg that was powdery and with the sauce, it didn't add any additional flavor. The grilled pork was decent. We asked for rice and I indicated towards one person only but the staff gave two bowls of rice. The banchan were brocolli and kimchi only. The server didn't bother to refill. She just kept talking on the phone the entire time. Another party came by as we ate. They stayed for five minutes and left. We should have done the same thing. It's not worth it going here. My friend and I came here for a late dinner and wanted to try a new Korean place in the neighborhood. We were seated right away and scanned the QR code at the table to see the menu. There was a variety of dishes ranging from soups, meats, etc. We shared the kimchi tofu soup, spicy rice cakes with fish cake, and galbi. I enjoyed the different side dishes -- my favorite one was the thinly sliced pickled radish. The kimchi soup was packed with good kimchi flavor and plenty of tofu. The seafood soondubu was literally 90% imitation crab and it was like mushy, maybe 2 pieces of shrimp and some chopped up octopus(?) and maybe a couple clams i dont rly remember. Came here on a Saturday for dinner around 5:30 and was seated right away, however the restaurant got packed shortly after. Really good service and Korean comfort food. Everything was reasonably priced and very filling. Lots of parking spots, although it seems like it could be very crowded during the day. Highly recommend! read more

Jeonju Hostetter - Cheese Rice Cake Deluxe - Korean Near Me - San Jose, California

Another solid Korean spot, known for their Kalbijjim! The kalbijjim was good: tender, cheesy, fatty, saucy with lots of rice cakes, carrot, and sweet potatoes. However it was really greasy and everything kept getting burnt and stuck at the bottom. The highlight of the meal for me was the ramen tofu soup! I got medium spice and it had a good kick. The tofu was very soft and the soup was flavorful. Lots of ramen and I like that the soup comes with an egg and rice (some places skimp out on the egg). The grilled marble brisket and cheesy corn were not bad but also not standout. The brisket was plain and the cheesy corn didn't seem creamy enough or torched thoroughly. Also, weird addition of diced carrots were in there which I didn't prefer. Banchan was okay. Overall, this spot is not a bad option for Korean food, especially if you're craving tofu soup or kalbijjim. However, I do think there are definitely better options. The service can definitely be worked on. It was really minimal and didnt feel welcoming whatsoever. I liked the cute wall decor though. read more
